The wedding will be at the Wequassett Inn in Chatham, Massachusetts on Saturday, May 27, 2006. The ceremony will be held at the Wequassett at 6:00pm. The reception is immediately following and will end between 11:30 and midnight.

A shuttle will serve the Cove Motel (5:10pm pick-up) and the Pleasant Bay Village (5:35pm pick-up), providing transportation to and from the Wequassett.

Care for Kids (508-420-4207) is a babysitting service that the Wequassett recommends.

In lieu of wedding favors, a donation has been made to the National Park Foundation.

Our wedding is on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, but we want to see everyone for more than just a few hours. Make plans to stay for at least Saturday and Sunday nights!

Friday (5/26) 8:30pm : Welcome Cocktails
We'll start the festivities with drinks at the Land Ho!
Directions: Follow Route 6 to the rotary in Orleans and exit onto Route 6A. Go 1.0 miles and Land Ho! will be on your left at the stoplight where 6A intersects with Main Street. Land Ho! is a ten-minute walk from the Cove Motel: take a left out of the Cove Motel; take a right on Cove Road; take a left when Cove Road dead-ends at Route 6A and the Land Ho! will be on your left.

Saturday (5/27) 6pm-11:30pm : Wedding and reception
The wedding is at the Wequassett Inn with the reception immediately following.
Directions: We encourage you to take the roundtrip shuttle from the Cove Motel or from the Pleasant Bay Village. If you drive, take Route 6 East to Exit 11. At the end of the ramp, turn left. Go 25 yards and take your first left on Pleasant Bay Road. Proceed to the second stop sign; the entrance to the Wequassett Inn will be directly ahead.

Sunday (5/28) 1:30pm-9:00pm : Beach and BBQ
Join us for a casual day of fun at the Wildes' house in Wellfleet. You can relax on the beach, play tennis, go in the hot tub, or play whiffle ball.
~ 3pm : Capture the Flag
~ 5pm : BBQ Dinner
~ 7pm : Bonfire on the beach
Please dress for play (i.e., Capture the Flag). You might want to bring a book, bathing suit, towel, tennis racket, etc. Children are welcome for all of the Sunday activities.

Directions: Please park at the Newcomb Hollow Beach parking lot. A shuttle van will run between the Wilde House and the parking lot. To reach the lot, take Route 6 East to Wellfleet (you will know you are in Wellfleet when you see the sign for the Wellfleet Drive-In). Once you are in Wellfleet, take a right from Route 6 onto LeConte Hollow Road (just past the South Wellfleet General Store). The turn-off for LeConte Hollow Road is approximately 8.8 miles from the Orleans rotary. Follow LeConte for approximately .8 miles. At the end of LeConte (which dead-ends into the LeConte Hollow Beach parking lot) take a left onto Ocean View Drive. The ocean will now be on your right. Follow Ocean View Drive for approximately 3.2 miles until it dead-ends into the Newcomb Hollow Beach parking lot. Park anywhere in the lot, then look for the shuttle van. It will be continuously running between the lot and the house, so you may have to wait a few minutes for it to return.

We have donated 50 trees to the National Arbor Day Foundation to make the entire weekend climate-change neutral. (Basically, the trees will eat up all of the CO₂emissions resulting from the wedding events and the associated travel of the guests.)

Cape Cod is an area where a car is a necessity (join up with friends to carpool). Public transportation is almost nonexistent and doesn't serve most areas. For those further afield, we recommend traveling to Boston or Providence, Rhode Island, by plane, train, or bus, and then renting a car.

BY AIR
Cape Cod is served by Logan Airport (BOS) in Boston; TF Green Airport (PVD) in Providence, Rhode Island; and Barnstable Municipal Airport (HYA) in Hyannis on the Cape. It is cheaper to fly into Boston or Providence since HYA is a commuter airport with few flights. The trip from Providence to the Cape is easier to navigate than the trip from Boston.

BY TRAIN
Cape Cod no longer has any rail service - the tracks are now a very nice bike trail. Amtrak's Acela Express runs along the northeast corridor between Washington, DC, and Boston. Please note that Amtrak has an abysmal on-time record.

BY BUS
Bonanza Bus Lines: Buses run from New York City, Providence, Boston, Hartford, and other cities to Hyannis. Once you are in Hyannis, cars can be rented at the Barnstable Municipal Airport (HYA). HYA is a small airport; reservations for car rentals should definitely be made in advance.

Plymouth and Brockton Street Railway Company: Buses run from Boston and Logan Airport to destinations throughout the Cape including Hyannis.

BY CAR
There may be SIGNIFICANT TRAFFIC on Memorial Day Weekend. The biggest traffic jams are usually at the infamous bridges onto the Cape, so it's best to leave yourself plenty of time. With traffic, please plan on a 6.5-hour trip from NYC, 3 hours from Boston, and 3 hours from Providence. (We'd hate to have you miss our wedding!)

Navigating the Cape is relatively straightforward: Route 6 is the main artery and runs the length of the Cape.

From on Route 6 to the Wequassett Inn: From Route 6 heading east, get off at exit 11. At the end of the ramp turn left. Go 25 yards and take your first left on Pleasant Bay Road. Proceed to the second stop sign; the entrance to the Wequassett Inn will be directly ahead.

From on Route 6 to the Cove Motel: From Route 6 heading east, get off onto Rt. 6A at the Orleans Rotary (exit 13). Follow Rt. 6A east about 1/2 mile. At the fork, bear left onto Rt. 28. The Motel is 100 yards ahead on the left, across from the Christmas Tree Shop.

From on Route 6 to the Pleasant Bay Village: From Route 6 heading east, get off at exit #11. At the end of the ramp turn left. Go 25 yards and take your first left on Pleasant Bay Road. Continue on Pleasant Bay Road until it ends at Route 28; take a right onto Route 28. After approximately one mile, Pleasant Bay Village will be on your right.

WEATHER
Cape weather can be unpredictable (cross your fingers), but May evenings will be cool, so pack a fleece or a few sweaters.

FOOD
We hope you’ll join us for dinner on Saturday at the wedding reception and dinner on Sunday at the BBQ. For your other meals, we recommend:

FUN
A few ideas for the rest of your time on the Cape:

- Visit the Cape Cod National Seashore.

- Bike the Cape Cod Rail Trail.

- Pile everyone into a station wagon and head to the Wellfleet Drive-In.

- Climb the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown or go whale watching (just don't tell Jesse--he hates whale watching).

- Gorge yourself on fudge and shopping in downtown Chatham.

- Golf at the Highland Links.

- Take a day trip to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket.

- Read Fodor's suggestions for Cape Cod.

We encourage you to stay Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you will only be staying two nights, we'd definitely suggest Saturday and Sunday. (For Memorial Day Weekend, most hotels have a two- or three-night minimum.) A shuttle will take guests to and from our principal options for accommodations: the Cove and the Pleasant Bay Village.

The Cove (508.255.1203) is a cute, reasonably priced motel in walking distance of downtown Orleans. However, the Cove has a three-night minimum and has not blocked rooms for us.

At the Pleasant Bay Village (800.547.1011), we've held a block of rooms under "Wilde/Brackenbury." Accommodations range from small rooms to large suites with kitchens, outdoor decks, and grills. The hotel has a two-night minimum. The Pleasant Bay won a "Best on Cape Cod" award, but not for their administration. They are slow in returning phone messages and can be a little frustrating to deal with, but just remember, you are supporting a mom-and-pop business!

And if you would like to splurge, you can stay at the Wequassett Inn. The Wequassett has a three-night minimum.

There are very few chain hotels on the Lower Cape (a good thing), but there is a Travelodge in West Dennis that appears to allow guests to stay for only one night on holidays weekends. Please note that we have never been to this hotel and have no idea what it is like.

If you are going to search for other lodging, we recommend looking at towns within 20 minutes of the wedding, including Chatham, Harwich, Orleans, Brewster, Eastham, or Wellfleet - an area known as the Lower Cape or Outer Cape. (Eileen would be happy to engage in a long conversation about the subtleties of each definition.) Yarmouth, Dennis, Hyannis/Barnstable, and Truro are all more than 35 minutes away. Hyannis/Barnstable has most of the Cape's budget hotel options, and may be the best place to find a place without a multi-night minimum. However, Hyannis has the Cape's worst traffic and is dominated by strip-mall development - not the Cape experience recommended by a former Parkie and a historic preservationist.
