If nothing really bad has happened to someone, they tend neither to worry about their personal information nor to take steps to limit the amount of information that can be found about them online. This finding dovetails with our previous work related to spyware -- software that covertly tracks a user as they navigate the net. Internet users who said they had not encountered spyware were less likely to view it as a serious threat and more likely to say it's just part of life online.

Full ReportPatricia Gallagherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11839825074161909564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-950293062111801242008-02-28T10:37:00.002-05:002008-02-28T10:48:50.627-05:00Mentoring Modules for Capacity BuildingCanadian Coalition for Global Health Research offers mentoring modules for capacity building.Lea Myohanenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17297335863713256513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-1172180683518565872007-02-22T16:40:00.000-05:002007-02-22T16:45:33.886-05:00Bird FluBird Flu from Reuters AlertNet is a timeline showing the spread of bird flu from 1996 to the present.Lea Myohanenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17297335863713256513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-1172178873052167792007-02-22T16:04:00.000-05:002007-02-22T16:15:29.026-05:00HEALTHmapHEALTHmap from Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology allows users to view the current state of infectious diseases globally and brings together data from a number of different sources from news sources to the WHO.Lea Myohanenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17297335863713256513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-1171041830671117042007-02-09T12:19:00.000-05:002007-02-09T12:23:51.416-05:00Global health: Making partnerships workUnited Kingdom's Overseas Development Institute has put out a briefing paper about building effective public-private partnerships in global health.Lea Myohanenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17297335863713256513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-1169755741264859292007-01-25T15:07:00.000-05:002007-01-25T15:09:01.530-05:00How to Promote Global HealthClick here, to read the roundtable discussion on Laurie Garrett's essay "The Challenge of Global Health", which appears in the last issue of the journal Foreign Affairs.Lea Myohanenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17297335863713256513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-1166562318815199472006-12-19T16:04:00.000-05:002006-12-19T16:05:19.146-05:00The Challenge of Global HealthIn this article Laurie Garrett, Senior Fellow for Global Health at the Council on Foreign Relations, writes about the need for both public and private funding to be spent on public health in general and not only on battling specific diseases. Many Americans are deepening their connections to the internet, whether for entertainment or to help a loved one through a crisis. Fully 58% of those who found the internet to be crucial or important during a loved one’s recent health crisis say the single most important source of information was something they found online.

Read the entire study at Pew Internet and American Life ProjectPatricia Gallagherhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11839825074161909564noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13934146.post-1147878499507745382006-05-17T11:06:00.000-04:002007-02-24T17:47:44.780-05:00Validity of Peer-Review QuestionedThe Doctor's World
For Science's Gatekeepers, a Credibility Gap
By LAWRENCE K.
