Interprovinsjale Sweinen (tape, Wegwerp Tapes, 1985)

This is the weirdo department. For a start there isn't a proper band name mentioned, unless Interprovinsjale Sweinen is the artist and the title. However, I think this is by The Lost Attic, since it's released by their own Wegwerp Tapes. I might be wrong but I await comments then. Two tracks were recorded with soundmaterial by Kapotte Muziek, on which Frans de Waard says here:
"We send this label a c15 with material for them to release completly, but they made two new tracks out of our material and credited it to us" The original c15 is apparently lost. Nice electronic 'disco' music with weird sounds.
Recently I got an e-mail saying that Barry Rikkerink, the guy behind The Lost Attic died earlier this year, but my source didn't know more. Anyone who does?

In the 80s and a bit of the 90s the cassette market also became a real market: a day long event with people selling tapes, and bands playing. in 1990, August 18, there was one in the unlikely remote village of Hulst in The Netherlands, which lasted perhaps two days - I only vaguely remember one. This tape is a live document of that weekend, and has factor X, Beurk, Bram D, Dva Met Dva Nichts & PDM, From Nursery To Misery, Grey Wolves, Das Freie Orchester, Marilyn's Army, M.I.Dotan, Contact T.B.D., Nostalgie Eternelle, Siegmar Fricke, Harald 'Sack' Ziegler, Beequeen, Selfs Without Shells and Dark Star. A pretty varied bunch of music, from noise to electronics and rock music. No scans of the booklet.

In the earlier days of this blog I posted new wave and punk bands from The Netherlands, and will continue to do so if I have them. I found these by accident in the wrong pile. Waves has three groups, Aigretjes, Rags and 4227-b. I couldn't separate per track, but I did by band. The Slonz tape is very short and added a bonus - well of sorts. Slonz is the more experimental of the four, but they all use guitars, drums, bass etc.

"Indra Karmuka is a Dutch Electro-acoustic group that creates sound-atmospheres by using electronic manipulation, microphones and effected strings.
They started in the beginning of 1995 and released their first single 'Suo'/'Rana' on the German label Drone Records in november 1996. Their second release 'Aardster'/'Bovist' came out in december 1998 on the Berlin label Rendezvous Radikal. In September 2000 they released their first cd 'N'ura'/ 'Fo' on the Polish label Ignis with recordings from the period 1995-1998. Two of its members now form the electro/acoustic duo Mommur Chasma." The members are Peter Veenstra, Raymond Dijkstra and Floris Sirag, with Dijkstra these days very active in releasing solo work on highly limited editions LPs.

Odal - TV Monster (tape, Bloedvlag Produkt, 1985?)

The second post with music by Peter Zincken/Odal. If my memory serves right, 'TV Monster' was his first release as Odal on his own label Bloedvlag Produkt. Zincken has had various labels, of which Bloedvlag was the first. Quite raw noise type music here, not his best, but worthwhile.

Savage Republic - Live At The Melkweg 25.9.87 (tape, Staaltape ST 00S, 1988)

Almost finished doing the tapes I have by Staalplaat (I think just the other Laibach is the one I need to do), and here's Savage Republic with a live recording from 1987. I saw them on the same tour somewhere else and they were in great shape, as this recording proofs. I am no expert on their music, so I am not sure if made all the tags right.

Falx Cerebri - Antimuzick (7", Artcore Editions ACE-01, 15/11/1985)

If you download this, then you see the extensive liner notes by Graf Haufen for this 'Anti Muzick' 7", but also a biographical thing. Graf Haufen was one of the most important people in the world of cassettes, mail art and art in general and had his own band Falx Cerebri and with that he released one tape, 'Rite 64', which can be found here. One of the labels who released that in 1984 was Korm Plastics, who did a CDR version I think in 2001, with a bonus track. That bonus track is part of this .zip, along with the only 7" Falx Cerebri made 'Anti Muzick' and a highly obscure c6 (!) cassette called 'Black', although I think that was as Graf Haufen. The last thing I heard is that Graf Haufen had his own video store in Berlin and hasn't lost contact with music business, but video is his main interest.

"The Tape-beatles are a collaboration of varying membership that make music and audio art recordings, ‘expanded cinema’ performances, videos, printed publications, and works in other media. They work under the umbrella organization called Public Works Productions. Members of the Tape-beatles currently include as of this writing Lloyd Dunn and John Heck. Former or occasional members of the group include Chuck Hollister, Linda Morgan Brown, Paul Neff, and Ralph Johnson." When they released 'Music With Sound' in 1991 it blew my mind. The best ever work piece of Plunderphonics and never to be repeated. They had a bunch of cassette releases, which ended up on CDs later on, and so even 'Steal This Lick', while not released as such on CD, is partly a blue print for 'Music With Sound'. A thirty minute tape and not a C46 as Discogs says (this to avoid that people really think Discogs is right and I cut off some music), and I added 'America Is Confident', a 6" flexi on Plagiarism and 'Home Problems/Grave Implications', a 7"on Carburetor Records. These three tracks were taken from 'The Grand Delusion' CD on Staalplaat in the same versions but I thought you might be interested in hearing a version on vinyl.

Heartbeat Volume 3 (tape, Corrosive Tapes, 1990)

I have quite a few compilations cassettes from the 80s, as you may have guessed and this thirty minute compilation is one. I believe it's loosely based around the theme of heartbeats, although its not always clear from the music. I think, but I'm not sure that the guy who ran this label was nurse. I have no clue who are on the other volumes, nor how many volumes there were. This one includes music from Onomatopeia, Alain Basso, professor Zeebuton Tourneboute, Jean-Pierre Bobittot, KWI, Kapotte Muziek, Merz, Ak Ak, M.I. Dotan and F.A.R.

And since nothing works in logical ways, by total contrast of what I wrote yesterday, here's something incomplete. When I posted the LP 'Above Suspicion' by Suspect last year it got a comment by one of the previous members and only recently also by Gila, also a former member of Suspect, and Schlaflose Nachte. She asked what this tape was all about and someone sent it to me shortly afterwards but as you can see on the cover and the tracks, some tracks are missing. Get my drift? But then I thought it would be nice to present it anyway.

Death Pact International - Peace Through Superior Firepower (tape, no label, 198?)

Today this blog exists for one year. Started out as something I was planning to do for just the slow summer period, then I thought to do it for a year. Some weeks ago I made a big pile here of stuff that I still want to do. So I can see the end of this blog somewhere in the future. Perhaps I'll make it into 2009, but a second anniversary is not likely to happen. I don't use soulseek, nor do I share stuff that I didn't make myself (o.k. with some exceptions). Everything on this blog I have (95% that is) I had in my hands, and did all the work (transfer and scans) on. This way I can guarantee it's all correct. And that's why I don't want to take on other stuff too lightly. Today we have Death Pact International, which was started by The Grey Wolves as a sort of music by mail project. Everybody could send in raw sound material which was then mixed together. The name Death Pact International was also open to use by anyone, but I think just The Grey Wolves did, and Midas Music/Korm Plastics did have a small label with collaborations. 'Peace Through Superior Firepower' was made by The Grey Wolves department. Perhaps it came it with a booklet, but I don't seem to have it. More tapes later.

BMB con - One (tape, 1991), Two (tape, 1991)

Of the three members of BMB con, Justin Bennett is the best known, mainly for his solo work in music and visual art. The two other members are Roelf Toxopeus and Wikke 't Hooft. Their music is electro-acoustic, but its always part of a performance - not a laptop trio but they make action and sound, and its always site specific. Not on discogs, but on their own site, it says there are six cassette releases, of which I only have these two, the first two. The titles of their pieces reflect what they did or the location. Chris Block's Illusion Of Safety - Finance And Ideology (tape, SJ Organisation, 1990)

Illusion Of Safety has been a group, always has, but Dan Burke was the main man. There is however one release in which he had little to no involvement in, being this one. On Discogs it says 'featuring', but the cover says 'minor additional input by D. Klein, Dan Burke, James Johnson, Jenny Rowe, Jim O'Rourke, Mark Sorensen, Mitch Enderle, Thymme Jones' while everything is performed, recorded and sampled by Chris Block. Samples 'featuring the unauthorized presence of Frank Sinatra, Trondant Shamen, Led Zeppelin, Bob Filton, Aerosmith, Timothy Leary, Prince, Bernhard Herrmann, Madonna, Print Expo'85, The New Sensations, Laibach, Falco, King Crimson, Dagoth, Holly Rosati and Larry Shriner'. Quite a nice tape.

Roland Kayn - Makro (3LP, Colosseum Schallplatten GmbH SM 1477, 1980)

"When it comes to creative genius, Roland Kayn, born in Reutlingen (Germany) in 1933, might be the most unjustly neglected figure in contemporary music" it says as an opening of the Roland Kayn website. Read all about him there. This is one of the five LP boxes he released in the 70s and 80s. 'Tektra' was released on 4CDs by Barooni, the others are not released on CD. I intend to post all four of them (besides Makro, also Infra, Silmutan and Projekte), but as you can imagine its quite a piece of work to do.

Tuning Circuits - No Compassion (tape, Totally Freaked Out Electronics No. 2, 1990)

Now that 433RPM is approaching its first birthday its time to set the matter straight. This blog is about music, and nothing else, no restrictions other than I have to like it. Today music that has not been posted before, and wont be posted very much after this, being techno music. But it's released on a cassette and it's from The Netherlands and it's old, so three good reasons. Behind Tuning Circuits is one RB from Tholen (of all places), who plays all rhythms, synths, vocals, effect, tape and radio. 'No Compassion' is his second tape. I thought I had the first one also, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Whenever I do I'll post that piece of raw techno music with a firm dose of experiment too.

Does Jim need any introduction? I would hope not. Erstwhile member of Illusion Of Safety, imrpovisation musician, producer (Faust, Stereolab), member of Sonic Youth and solo electronic music. I don't remember when I first heard his music, I think the Entenpfuhl record, but it got me to get his three tapes releases very quick. I think 'It Takes Time To Do Nothing' is the last tape release he did. The other two will follow shortly. 'All music created in real time on prepared guitar, using no processing besides reverbm excepting beginning and ending of tape, which were performed on an Ensoniq Mirage'. One track per side.

Achim Wollscheid - Ambivalenz/Askese (tape, 1992)

Achim Wollscheid, before this known as S.B.O.T.H.I. released somewhere in the nineties three tapes with pieces he made for radio, in this case for the Hesssische Rundfunk. It has voices, but it's all being transformed in the usual Wollscheid way. Not released by any label, but I think they were sale by Selektion for a while.

A split tape. On one side we have R.I.G., which is Illusion Of Safety on sampler and synthesizer DX 7 and backing by Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock. On the other sie a live recordings by Holeist, the trio of Dan Burke (of Illusion Of Safety), Eric Lunde and Jeph Jerman. Besides this tape they also had a split LP on the same label with Illusion Of Safety.

I haven't posted much music by Jeph Jerman/Hands To, since much is on CDR available, will become so. However I don't think much of Jerman's City Of Worms will be available like that. City Of Worms was a band with George Erickson, Steve Beckner and Jeph Jerman and one of the first to use live sampling. Much inspired by zoviet*france I always thought, but it's a great band. This is the first post. I have several, but not all, of their releases.

From the ashes of Rentokil d from Sheffield came An Ordered Life, who ha their own label Chaos Breweries Tapes. They 'licenced' some of their releases to Dutch Finger In The Dike, among which is the excellent Fururists compilation and a Rentokil d tape. An Ordered Life plays electronic music, with dub like rhythms, and seem to be inspired by Cabaret Voltaire.

The final post on the vinyl I have from Eric Lunde. If I remember correctly they were my first introduction to his work. I was fascinated by all the inserts , maps, words and music: a total package which was great. Not that I had any clue what it was about - still don't. I didn't scan the inserts of the double 7", as it didn't fit under my scanner. Also the Aztalan 7" isn't indexed. Maybe I am getting lazy?

Odal - Positiv Soundsculptures (tape, Bloedvlag Produkt, 1986)

The first of several posts with the music of Peter Zincken's project Odal. This might be one of his first releases. Zincken first did a magazine, Material, and soon expanded to doing music himself, as Odal, with highly primitive noise made with a cheap machinary. In the 90s he produced one or two 7"s and these days works as Odal, Dr. Bibber and is a part time member of the Fckn Bstrds. He had various labels, of which Bloedvlag was the first, then came Nihilistic Recordings and these it's called Stront Tapes.
