Wing Expands Operations

Wing Enterprises, the manufacturer of the Little Giant Ladder System, acquired a 244,000 square foot building from E. Excel International Inc. The new building will be used to operate $2 million in additional equipment which will increase production to as many as 7,000 units per day. The company's current manufacturing capacity is between 4,000-5,000 units per day.

The new building is located in Springville, Utah, the same city as Wing Enterprises Corporate Headquarters and current manufacturing facilities. Previous plans to move operations to Mountain Vista Business Center in Provo have been scrapped. The current expansion is estimated to save nearly $7 million over the previous plan of building a new facility in Provo.

The memo states that, "Ladders have arrived in other countries with the Little Giant brand, but manufactured at an unknown factory in China." Little Giant Ladder Skyscraper

The Little Giant Skyscraper, formally known as the Type MXZ, is a unique ladder. Many ladders allow a user to reach up high, that's what they are made for. But a common problem with most ladders is that you can't reach high unless there is something to lean your ladder against. If one needed to reach high heights in the middle of a room, usually scaffolding or lifts would be needed. Not a cheap alternative. But, the Little Giant Skyscraper changes that.

Wing Enterprises Moving

Wing Enterprises, the manufacturer of the famous Little Giant Ladder System, will be moving from their current location in Springville, Utah to Provo. The main reason for the move is to allow for additional expansion. Once the move is completed, the Little Giant Ladder manufacturer will increase production from 2,000 ladders per day to an amazing 3,800 ladders per day.

Construction will include a new manufacturing plant, warehouse, storage space and office space. Construction is expected to begin in January with anticipated completion by early 2007. The new plant will be about 260,000 square feet, well over twice the size of the current 100,000 square foot facility.

Little Giant Ladder Workplank

In our previous articles, we discussed the three most popular accessories that are part of the Little Giant Ladder System. These accessories include the work platform, the leg leveler and the wall standoff (aka the Wingspan). One of the less popular accessories, but just as important is the telescoping work plank.

The Little Giant Workplank is used when the Little Giant Ladder is seperated into the simple scaffolding setup. The scaffolding setup saves times because the user does not have to constantly move the ladder around. This setup is used by many professionals especially drywall installers and painters. A nice feature about the Little Giant Ladder Workplank is the telescoping feature which allows the workplank to be stored in about half of its extended length. Louisville Ladder Group Moving

Louisville Ladder Group will be closing its last United States plant and moving it to Monterey, Mexico. The plant closure will eliminate about 110 jobs. The Louisville, Kentucky manufacturing plant was moved to Mexico in 2002. Louisville Ladder Group is owned by Groupo Imsa, a Mexican holding company based in Monterey. The company manufacturers aluminum and wooden ladders under the Davidson and Louisville brand names.

"Little Giant Ladders are manufactured right here in the United States," said a Little Giant Ladder Source spokesman. "These ladders are American made and are superior to any ladder on the market today."

Ladders Used In Rescues This Week

Many people own ladders. Most homeowners own ladders to complete projects around the house and professionals need them to complete their jobs. However, an often overlooked use of ladders is a rescue tool. Ladders are used on a daily basis to save lives.

In Jacksonville Beach in Florida, firefighters used ladders to assist in the rescue of three construction workers injured when a 100 foot crane collapsed. In Whittier California, two firefighters used a ladder to rescue a 69 year old man from his second floor apartment that was on fire. The list could go on and on.

It is recommended that a ladder be kept on each floor of your house that is not at ground level. Any safe ladder would be sufficient. The difficulty usually is that many ladders long enough to reach the ground from a second floor would be too large to store neatly in your house. Two alternatives would be either a rope ladder or a collapsable ladder, like the Little Giant Ladder. Lifetime warranty for the Type IAA

Wing Enterprises has changed the warranty for the Little Giant Ladder Type IAA. Formally, a six year warranty, the Little Giant Type IAA now boasts a lifetime warranty. A spokesman for the Little Giant Ladder Source said, "Little Giant Ladders are so strong and well built that the manufacturer must have known there would be little risk in extending the warranty from 6 years to a lifetime. It shows how confident they are in these fine products."

Little Giant Ladder Price Increases

Wing Enterprises, the manufacturer of the Little Giant Ladder System, has increased prices on some of the Little Giant Ladders by as much as $60.00. These price increases will go into effect on July 1, 2005.

The model featured on the television infomercial is the Type IA. The pricing for these models will remain at the current prices. However, the Type I (rated at 250 lbs) and the Type IAA (rated at 375 lbs) will incur price increases up to $60.00! All certified Little Giant Ladder resellers will be required to sell the ladders at these prices. Ladders and pruning trees

All of us have trees in our yards that will someday need pruning. Many trees can be pruned with your feet on the ground and some require the use of ladders. Sadly, accidents can happen when using a ladder and people can be seriously injured or even killed.

Students of E.O. Smith in Connecticut lost one of their teachers on Friday. Brian Beckius fell 20 feet from his ladder when trimming branches from a tree. One of the branches that he was cutting came down and knocked the ladder out from underneath him. He was only 44.

In Texas, another man was killed pruning trees last Thursday. Harold Dowler, 66, was up on his ladder using a pruning hook when he accidently touched a powerline carrying 7,200 volts of electricity. He died instantly.

The loss of both of these men demonstrate how dangerous ladders can be. We can also learn from their mistakes. Always use caution and be aware of your surroundings when on a ladder. Extreme caution should always be used around powerlines. In addition, use a nonconductive fiberglass ladder when working anywhere near powerlines.
