This blog is another mommy blog about our busy life of UNSchooling, a Girl Scout Leader and just my gritching.Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.comBlogger792125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-58052471896949723692009-07-06T11:10:00.002-06:002009-07-06T11:35:22.788-06:00weekend updateWell what I had planned and what actually happened changed quite a bit, but we had a good time, so all's well that ends well...right?

I thought that we might hike (it's all of a mile) to downtown and check out the city festivities...maybe find a funnel cake & corndogs to much. Come back home, light up my firepit, cook hotdogs & smores over the fire and then watch the city's fireworks from our back porch.

What really happened is: Darly nixed the hiking downtown cuz she hates hiking and she doesn't like funnel cake (she's tried it just once!) So we didn't do that.

Then around 3pm or so it started raining! I grabbed my firepit and put it on the porch under the roof to keep the wood & pit dry. At about 4:30 or so I tried to light my firepit...still under the porch's roof, but pushed out so the wind would blow all the smoke away. The temperature was dropping, Darly & I were still in shorts and were getting cold...I was running low on matches (they're on the shopping list now) and the darned fire wouldn't light!!! It was too windy.

So we ditched the fire! and cooked our dinner inside... POUT! I was so looking forward to a charred hotdog. So I put mine under the broiler to try to crisp it up...no luck there either. pout!

so now...how to do smores? I grabbed one of my soybased candles (the one that smells like cookies) and we roasted our marshmallows over it's flame. I nuked my chocolate & graham crackers in the microwave...so my smore was nice and mushy! I then made another smore and had just a marshmallow too.

It had been raining constantly since 3pm, so I was worried that there wasn't going to be any fireworks... I even started channel surfing for a fireworks show on TV. But luckily the rain did stop at about 8pm, and the fireworks went off at around 9:20pm. We watched from my family room couch (sitting backwards!) in the nice warm dry house! :D

as soon as the show was over I watched TV, even though my neighbors were still shooting off illegal fireworks (you can buy them just over the state line -2 hours away) for a good 2 hours afterward. :p

Darly & I got to watch Turner & Hooch. She liked it, but I totally forgot that Hooch dies in the end...I told her before that he does get shot and almost dies...and then the darned dog dies! What is with all the dead dog movies & books? Can't any of these animals live a nice long life??? bah! Well she didn't even notice that he had died until I appologized for forgetting that he had died. I guess I shouldn't have mentioned it.

Sunday after Church we went to the library, the farmer's market and then home to wait for the insurance adjuster. I got a cuc, a zuc & a tomatoe at the farmer's market. YUM!

The insurance adjuster said that I should be getting a new roof! I hope they don't depreciate the roof too much. I would like to change the color of our shingles to match the house...they're currently grey and the house is brown. :p

I was talking to the neighbor about the roof and he mentioned that they had found a turtle in his front garden... we asked to see it and found out he had a Western Box Turtle...no idea how it got there as they don't roam our streets. LOL! and while checking our yard for spent fireworks I found instead crow feathers & a beak!!! I'm thinking that perhaps a coyote got this bird as cats normally leave more parts behind.

We finished off the day by watching The Next Foodnetwork Star. I'm glad they finally got rid of Katie... It looks like Jamica might be next.

Free Signature Generator

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-66482397107713366572009-07-04T08:00:00.002-06:002009-07-04T08:13:55.365-06:00new baby!

You didn't think that I seriously meant an infant did you? @@

Here's the latest addition to our household... now we can have two surfers on the internet...no waiting! :)

My only problem is that I am reluctant to stick a lot of the "junk" that we have on the desktop over on the laptop...I know it will happen eventually, but ya know...I wanna keep it pure for a while...

speaking of pure...ignore all the crud you can see in the background of those pictures!

The fun part of this was seeing all my neighbors' wireless connection names. :p My next door neighbors' son is just sick!!! I'm glad our computer has figured out how to connect to our connection by itself now and we don't have to see that anymore.

You may be asking why after all this time I finally got a laptop? well the answer is quite silly... I was thinking of going on a road trip this summer and wanted to get a dvd player for Darly. But then I got to thinking... "why get a dvd player for the car that just plays dvds?" I'm trying to rid our house of uni-taskers and seeing that we don't take a lot of road trips, having a dvd player that you can only use in the car didn't make any sense to me. So whalah! A laptop that also plays dvds. :D

You may be asking what DH thought of my purchase? Well before he left he was considering getting a laptop (for himself!) but decided against it when he learned that he had to bring one from work...he didn't want to carry two on the plane. So when I told him my plan he started giving me a shopping list of stuff to get for it!

Course now I have to wait for my turn on the laptop because it is Darly's favorite new toy. We have 5 screens that need to be replaced, the lines to our A/C unit were cracked (they still work THANK Goodness!) and there is some paint that was chipped off.

But then we have to get the roof checked out.

My neighbor (the one with all the cars) is in the contracting business and knows a guy. He told me that he was going to ask his roofing friend if he would do our roofs for what the insurance would pay. And since my neighbor was able to line up 5 interested folks the roofer was all for it.

So now I wait for my insurance adjuster to take a look to see how much they'll give me for the roof. I'm also going to see if they'll fix my falling front porch too! Hopefully the adjuster calls soon. Not that I'm in a hurry to get the roof replaced...I would just like them to call me back. I hate waiting.

Free Signature Generator

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-33674552237800299112009-06-27T13:45:00.004-06:002009-06-27T13:59:23.385-06:00Hail damage & stuffHere are some shots of my garden after two hail storms. There are my tomatoes.
What has been funny is DD wants roasted marshmallows, but all we have are the mini ones. So we've been roasting them. If we don't burn them they roast up in a minute and end up making funny shapes because they're so small. And I think that DD has forgotten one of the ingredients of somaos...the chocolate. She's only been bringing out the marshmallows & graham crackers. hee hee

She dreams of becoming an actress, but her parents and grandparents have traditional ideas and don't think young ladies should perform. Unexpectedly, Rebecca finds another way to earn money. But for her plan to work, she'll have to keep it a secret. Includes an illustrated "Looking Back" essay about Jewish immigration and culture. Author: Jacqueline Dembar Greene. Paperback or Hardcover. 96 pages.This is the newest American Girl.
I'm a happy girl now. I feel much safer. They even fixed the emergency brake for me...they had left my car parked with the emergency brake on (I NEVER use the thing!) so when I tried to back out of the space and couldn't go I was wondering, but then I released the emergency brake and was in awe!DH would frequently put the parking brake on...like in the garage! and I would drive for MILES without noticing it. So it is good to know it actually works now.
Okay, okay! I know I play Bejeweled A LOT! But actually it is everyone else's fault...if there was more stuff to comment on or more blog posts to read I would be doing that instead. LOL! Aren't I tricky to put the blame on all of you. hee hee

Actually I should get off my lazy butt and start exercising or I'm going to become a HUGE blimp while DH is gone.

Speaking of him, he has been emailing me about twice a day sometimes, others it is a day or two between emails. He's doing well, but homesick of course. He got to move from his first man cave to one that has it's own bathroom in it...he of course had to clean each one himself. The first one he had to clean while he lived in it...ugh! The second one he could clean before he moved into it.

He says the nice thing about having his own bathroom is he actually has cold water in this shower because the water line runs near his air conditioner. When he was in the old man cave he had to use a common bathhouse and there was no cold water at all...he said he never really felt clean because he was sweating so much.

Oh if you're still reading this... I have to brag about myself here...yesterday Darly, Marsi & myself were at Walmart to buy haircolor (for just Marsi & me of course! Darly has some temporary hair color that she can use if she wants to.) So while Marsi was debating which shade to choose, Darly asked to go look at the fish...they were close enough to us, so I allowed it.

Darly came back rather quickly to report that two Betta fish were in the same container, fighting! I was in shock...who would do such a thing? So Marsi & I head over there and sure enough someone had dumped a second male Betta into a container and they were fighting. The yellow betta had the blue one by the face and they were turned on their sides...Not good!

I looked around and didn't see any Walmart employees. So not wanting to watch these two poor fish kill each other and seeing quite plainly that there was the original container right there, I grab the containers and pour the yellow betta into the other container with enough water that he would be happy. After that excitement we look around and notice that someone has put two toilet brushes into one of the other fish tanks...the one "brush" is the kind that has toilet cleaner on it. UGH! Soon a Walmart employee comes by and I mention to him that someone had combined the bettas. He told us that it happens all the time. How could someone be so cruel? I'm sure it was teenagers....the only ones with that kind of time on their hands. He thanked me for separating the fish. I really think that Walmart needs to make the fish not so accessable to the customers. Maybe they could install a customer service button by the tanks so that if someone wanted a fish they could call for help...but to have it so that people can kill the fish is wrong. IMO.

and now I'm sitting here in my bathrobe wondering if I should wake up Darly so we can go to the park...I don't know if Darly's friends are going to be there. I should call them.

One of our favorite things to do is see the parade and watch all the dogs that get brought along. But the next thing we do is go see all the vendors. I love checking out all the great new ideas that they have there and today we came across something that was a bit different.

Better Bandz - "The Leader in custom, Sport and Designer Head Bandz"

We've done reviews on headbands before, but this band was much more comfortable. I'll have to get a picture of Darly wearing her headband here later (she currently needs to wash her hair!) but designs are very cute and comfy. And they stay in place so very well. They sell the bands for wearing while doing sports (we will have to try them for gymnastics!) too and I can just tell that they will be great at keeping our hair back and staying in place. I can so totally see all the girls at the gym wearing one with our gym's name on them.

Their bands currently come in 3 sizes, small/medium/large, which is a good thing since nobody has the same sized head and they have very comfy elastic that hides under your hair to keep it nice and snug. The velvet liner keeps your hair in perfect style and every hair in place.

I'm going to update this post with pictures and reports on how the band holds up at the gym for you, so that will have to wait until at least Tuesday. :D

Free Signature Generator

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-64807563863774348582009-06-12T20:57:00.005-06:002009-06-12T21:31:01.499-06:00Meeting Mr. WRONG! – Review
For all you single gals out there in the dating pool I sure hope that the fish were you live are much better than the ones in this book and for all you married gals, this is what could be available if we need to date again…ARGH! But I'm very frustrated with them. Yesterday I received an email from someone pretending to be from Yahoo telling me that I needed to update my email account for some odd reason. However, when I saw what it was they considered an update it was pretty easy to figure out that it was a very poor attempt at phishing my info. They wanted me to EMAIL them my account id, my password, my birthdate & my country of origin. Yeah right! Do I look like I just fell off the turnip truck?!?!?

Anyway, so I found out how to get to the full headers so that I could report the email as abuse...and had to cut and paste the headers to the email (since when did that change happen?) and then forwarded the email to yahoo abuse.

Today I got an email from yahoo telling me that because the person was not a yahoo user there was NOTHING they could do. WHAT?!??! Some idiot is out there trying to steal info and my only recourse is to hit delete?!?!?!? What kind of abuse prevention is that?

I just have to pray that no one fell for that sad excuse for a phishing scam.

Free Signature Generator

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-85874722353578791722009-06-07T20:13:00.000-06:002009-06-07T20:13:24.539-06:00YES, I snoop!
Today I came into the computer room while Darly was using it and she closed the window that she was looking at. The page seemed innocent enough, but the fact that she chose to close it bothered me. SO I snooped.

when I got on the computer I checked the history and started clicking on the links. Darly came in and asked what I was up to. I told her I was looking for the page she closed when I came in. She was shocked that I could do that! and seemed unwilling to cooperate with me by telling me what it was. So I kept digging until at last I did find it. I'm not sure why she insists on being secretive with me...so I'll just have to show her how I can find out what she's up to. We just discussed at dinner crazy folks who steal kids... Good question. If you're on Facebook you know that I have been checking in there quite a bit. But if you're only looking for me here then you know that I've been sadly remiss in my blogging duties. *sigh!* I have been reading your blogs and posting comments on most.

I don't really have an excuse. It isn't like I've been so busy that I couldn't come blog. It isn't that I've been too depressed to blog...I'm not. I just haven't wanted to blog. I'm ready to take your lashings.

Darly and I have been busy. Visiting with friends and doing stuff so we aren't stuck here in the house worrying about DH or MIL. Both are doing just fine by the way.

DH is finally "in country" and doing what they sent him there for. He said in his email (he keeps trying to call us when we're out!) that he had a meeting today with all these important people. He reports that his sleeping quarters are a pit or a cave or some other place that you really wouldn't want to sleep. I'll have to see the pictures, hopefully he can borrow someone's camera because he didn't take one with him.

Well that was stupid! I realized how late it is getting and went to log out of stuff so I can go make dinner and logged out of blogger! Luckily I didn’t close the window so I still have this post. WHEW!

And now I see that I was so tired after dinner last night that I never bothered to come back to the computer and finish my post. Ugh! See this is sort of why I haven’t been blogging…tired apathy.

Last night after dinner I sat on the couch and watched a tiny bit of tv…as in the first commercial and I was snoring. Being old is terrible!

I tried to set up this system for getting Darly to help out with the chores around here. I made a list of chores that she could do and how much I was willing to pay her to do them. Then there’s a grid with the days of the week…so if she empties the dishwasher on Monday, Wednesday & Saturday…she marks those days and gets paid for each one. Well she’s only emptied the dishwasher once. :p So since I don’t want to A) run out of dishes and B) be swimming in a sea of dirty dishes…I’ve been doing it. Sigh

Those extra chores seriously cut into my Facebook Bejeweled time.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-5775481353553232722009-06-05T19:18:00.002-06:002009-06-05T19:23:50.174-06:00Dollar Off Coupon! We went to see her and she kept talking about DH. I have to wonder if her worrying about him got her worked up enough to have this stroke. sigh funny thing, I was all worried about DH on Tuesday too.

DH might be coming back to see her before he leaves, I left the decision to him.

I kinda think that since she's stable that he doesn't need to come (If her condition was deteriorating I would tell him to hop the next flight) and I also worry about MIL if he comes and then has to leave again. I won't tell him to not come.

SIL misunderstood what she heard on my phone call with DH and told MIL that he was coming...sigh! Now I'm a bit worried about her condition if he doesn't come too.

Just talked to SIL and there's a chance that they'll be moving her out of ICU the the neuro floor. She's still stable.
~~~~~~~~~
well today she seemed worse to us but the doctor said it was actually better.
As part of the healing she had more swelling going on so she was sleepier, couldn't stay awake long enough to talk and was less responsive. The doctor assured SIL that this is normal. SIL is a nurse and knows most of this...I was teasing her because she and MIL's nurse were talking "nurse speak" and I didn't understand it.
Oh and we found out that she was found on top of a lamp that was ON so she had a nasty burn on her stomach. The nurse told me she fell on a lamp when I called Wednesday night, but I didn't realize it was on and she had been on it since she fell. The burn was really bothering her yesterday so I requested that the nurse change her dressing early because MIL was so agitated by it...it did seem to help...I don't know what they put on it...I would have put something to numb the area though (that's what I do to my burns).
We have figured out that she was fine up to at least 10pm on Tuesday because she wrote down the results to "Dancing with the Stars." And although I didn't watch the nurse said it was on that late on Tuesday. But MIL didn't answer her phone at 7am on Wednesday and she wasn't found until she missed her doctor's appointment at noon. (remember she was on a lamp this entire time...OUCH!)
SIL was with her all day today and was helping with her care. She was showing us (BIL & I) some things and we realized that she has some control of her left leg. But when the physical therapists were working with her, she wasn't able to sit up or even stay awake for them while they held her up.
She wasn't moved to Neuro because there wasn't a bed available.
~~~~~~~~
Darly has been staying with her friend a lot lately while I've been getting the inlaws from the airport to the hospital. Darly stayed the night with them last night. I'm so very greatful that she has someplace fun to go during all of this. Yesterday Darly, our friends & I went to the Wildlife Animal Sanctuary. We had a great time and saw some beautiful animals...it is such a shame that we need a place like this. All of the animals there were bred in captivity and sold as pets. :( Stupid humans!

The inlaws now have the keys to DH's car so I don't have to be a taxi. DH is so funny (or at least I find his reactions to stress to be funny sometimes) his first thought is to call up the insurance and take his mom off the policy...and to worry about his siblings taking care of his car. LOL! The car looked just fine last night.

I finally had a good conversation with DH last night on my cell phone when I was at dinner with the inlaws. I was able to give him as much info as I knew and we both agreed that (with the help of flights not being available due to the holiday) for him to hang tight where he is for now. The doctors said that MIL still had another 24 hours until they considered her out of the woods for a repeat stroke. Depending on when she actually had the stroke that is sometime Sunday before 7am.

MIL's stroke was the kind where the blood vessel bursts in the brain ...they call it a bleed out. Apparently she had multiple bleeds in different parts of her brain and the doctor says she has a condition where this happens (I forgot those details).

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-41117809705660428132009-05-21T07:21:00.000-06:002009-05-21T07:21:07.810-06:00prayer request for MILafter spending the entire day at the park yesterday and then having dinner with friends I got home at almost 10pm to find out that my MIL had a stroke.

She's currently in the ICU and is stable...they said they were not planning any surgery and that they were planning her recovery therapy. When I called for an update this morning she was on her way to a MRI and I'll have to call back.

One SIL(#2) is on her way here and she's a nurse. I spoke to SIL #1 and gave her the update on what I knew.

I've sent DH an email, but I'm not sure if I should call up the Red Cross (how I would get a message to him immediately) as other than worry there isn't much for him to do right now.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-53974749852242508952009-05-17T14:54:00.000-06:002009-05-17T14:54:07.266-06:00Week in reviewor update. Whatever you prefer.

First I'll answer a bit of fan mail (aka comments)
TC said...

"she asked if I would cut off the 1/2 inch she wants. I probably could, but I like that her hair was done right. "
ROFL Hahahaha. Oh man, I love it.
OK Chick: What can I say? I'm setting trends, I'm setting trends. Not blogging, cutting my hair... what will I start next? ;)
To TC: well I was considering cutting my hair, but your pictures did convince me to go this short.

Bone said...

Congrats on getting the spoon for two dollars. I was going to ask if you tried haggling like George did in that one episode.
No I didn't have to haggle. The one shop had only name brands and this shop had a generic for what I was willing to pay.
Jen said...

What are these special spoons?
No there isn't anything special about them, it was just that the old spoons I had all broke and I needed new ones, but I didn't need a new ladel & spatula (cuz I don't use them) so buying a set wasn't worth it...I just needed to find the spoons.

Okay, now for the updates.

Last week I was asked to consider becoming a counter for our Church. So on Monday I went in. I was told the ladies start at 8:30...no one showed up until 8:45. LOL! The regular counters were eager to have some new blood. I was told that some of the current counters are ready to move on to other things and that one counter is really getting too old to be of any use. She can't see, she frequently miscounts and she doesn't cancel the checks correctly. However, this same lady gets offended if you point out her mistakes and after working with her, I don't think that she is at all ready to step down from this job. I'm sure she likes the company. After I got home I got a call from this lady and I was at first worried that I was going to get told off for redoing some of her counting...but instead she was checking to see if she could add me to the schedule. We'll see how this all comes out...I think the office manager would like for this lady to step down, but doesn't want to ask her to. I think she wants me to come in and reform it so that the older lady quits.

Tuesday, Darly & I went to The Melting Pot for a tour and chocolate fondue. I have to admit that I was very charmed by this place. I had been to the Melting Pot in FL and wasn't at all impressed with it. Honestly I was upset at paying so much for dinner and then having to cook my dinner myself! And there wasn't much of anything to make it seem special, going there really put a damper on a wonderful day for me, that was the day that DH asked me to be his DW.
But this Melting Pot has a very charming atmosphere, with goregous views. I may have to give them another chance, although the cooking my own dinner still doesn't appeal to me, perhaps we should go just for the chocolate!

After stuffing ourselves with chocolate we went with some friends over to a dance supply store in search of new leotards for Darly. (they were looking for their girls too!) But we struck out big time. They didn't carry the type that we like.
So then it was time for lunch and we went to a nice deli. Unfortunately they put mayonaise on Darly's "plain" turkey sandwich. she only ate the upper half that didn't touch the mayo. :p My gyro was totally delish though.

next it was time to get Darly's yearbook photo taken. Darly wanted to wait for a friend of hers to show up, but I learned later that she had already been there and gone. oops.

And then Darly went to gymnastics. She is really liking her new gym a lot. We found out that they are doing "Open Gym" this next session... Darly can come in and work on whatever she wants. So we'll be signing up for that soon.

Wednesday we went to the park with our friends...and I didn't get sunburnt...although the wind did try to blow us away. And Darly went for her final Confirmation class for this year...they went to the park and had ice cream...while freezing cuz it was cold outside.

I worked on my garden on Thursday & Friday...pulled a muscle in my back :p but got it all ready to plant.

Friday night I went to TNO while Darly went to her friend's house. I had yummy Pene pasta w/ Asparagus & Shrimp. I saved half of it for lunch the next day.

Saturday I went to two plant sales. The first one was done by CSU and even though the sale lasted until 1pm getting there at 11am wasn't a good idea. When I got there I was told that there were no more heirloom plants left. I was bummed. but I looked at the other plants and picked out a few. The "tomatoe lady" showed me a very nice plant that I agreed to buy. I then thought I would get a Celebrity tomatoe since they're super easy to grow...I picked up a nice looking plant and put it in my tray. As I headed to pay I happened to look at my plants and noticed that my "celebrity tomatoe" was really a Heirloom Cherokee Purple! I was in shock! I got an Heirloom and not only that it was a PURPLE tomatoe! How lucky is that? I figured it was meant to be. The tomatoe lady was surprised too but unfortunately couldn't give me any info on my find, so I looked it up online, there was no way I was looking this gift horse in the mouth!

The second plant sale was better advertised and pretty much sold out by the time I got there. :( But at least I got to use the restroom there before heading for the long drive home.

The tomatoe lady said that I needed to keep my plants protected for at least another 10 days or I could get a water wall and plant them. So I decided to stop at Wally World to get a water wall and see if they have a reel lawn mower. they didn't have either. :(
Then I headed to Tagawa gardens figuring that they MUST have a water wall...right? ummm not so much. The very nice floor manager said that they get that kind of merchandise in around January and by May have been sold out for some time...even the manufacturer didn't have any in stock. BUT he told me how to make a water wall myself. hee hee it was meant to be!

To make a water wall you take some steaks (the wooden kind, not cow!) and make a tee pee over your plant. Then take some freezer bags and fill them 3/4 full of water and attach them to your steaks. Tah dah! I'm off to the store for freezer bags so I can plant my tomatoe babies in the ground. woo hoo!

Dh called me last night and used his entire phone card on me! okay he talked to Darly too.

Today we went to Church for our last day of Sunday School! The kids brought in some really yummy treats, I probably ate way too much. Then in service we had Recognition of High School graduates, recognition of teachers, welcoming new members and a baptism!

DH called again today. I was in shock, but he's taking advantage of phone time when he can get it. I noticed after our call that he had computer time too cuz I got quite a few emails from him.

hummm should I go shopping now or mow the lawn? shopping! even grocery shopping is better than mowing.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-27533870548608314502009-05-13T19:32:00.003-06:002009-05-13T19:32:17.683-06:00hee hee
see more Lolcats and funny pictures

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-78544596785112726882009-05-11T13:46:00.006-06:002009-05-11T14:08:02.266-06:00WHoa! Time for an update!!!
I know I've been a slacker. No excuses, just slacking.

Well first you all wanna know how my haircut turned out...right? I told her that she should have mentioned something while she was still there at the salon. Oh well, she asked if I would cut off the 1/2 inch she wants. I probably could, but I like that her hair was done right. I bet if I mentioned it now, she would say she's fine with it. we'll see when she reads this.

That was on Thursday that we got our hair cuts. On Friday we went to Girl Scouts and then brought home one of Darly's friends to stay with us so that her parents could go see the new Star Trek movie. I am pretty sure that everyone had an enjoyable evening. I liked it so much that I'm thinking that I'll invite one of her friends to stay over each weekend! hee hee Even though I had an extra kid in the house it really gave me a break...they played, I played on the computer. win win!

Saturday we took Darly's friend and met up with her parents at the Zoo. Some other friends came too, so we had a group trip to the zoo. The weather was cool enough that the animals weren't all sleeping (some were) but we got a nice visit at the zoo with lots of chatting. Darly & her friends made a pack of 4 girls who chatted the entire time, and then I got to spend some quality time with ADULTS! LOL! It was fun. We went to dinner at Panera Bread and had a great time there too.

Sunday after Church Darly & I went to Ihop for brunch. It was very busy there, but the wait wasn't too long, we chatted with friends from Church...and the food was yummy. When we got home we got a call from DH who is doing fine. He would much rather be at home though. He teased me "Did you get the flowers that I sent you for Mother's Day?" I said "You mean the yellow ones out in the front yard?" and he said yeah. LOL! Crazy guy. He also shared some of his training stories, they're working him very hard.

Then we drove down to the Outlet Mall and met up with our friends for some shopping. The girls just chatted, while us moms did some power shopping. LOL! I picked up some new corelle dishes and some pyrax bakeware. Oh and I got some new spoons. The first kitchen store we went to I found the spoons but they wanted $4 and up for them. I told my friend that I didn't want to pay more than $2 for them, so I didn't buy them. Then we got to the second store and they had them for $2. YAY! I stocked up.

After the mall we went to our friends house and had pizza dinner and watched a great movie. It was a really fun evening...oh and we watched the season finale of The Apprentice too. I didn't see last week's show, so I don't know how they ended up with Angie & Joan in the final, I wasn't very pleased with either. I don't know if I'll watch again cuz I'm getting fed up with the cat fights and obivious influence of the show's producer.

Well I see that my DH has sent me two emails while I've been working on this post, so I should see what he's up to.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-33128079486556952092009-05-06T22:03:00.002-06:002009-05-06T22:05:45.286-06:00Lemonhead Stylish Urban Accessories

Being a girl is so much fun! Things shouldn't get tricky for a while. I hope DH is able to call us soon though. :(

Today was Darly's first day at the new gym. And I wasn't happy. However, they had a good excuse. The owner was out sick, and one of Darly's new coaches messed up her leg so she isn't supposed to be spotting the kids at all. The owner asked her to come in to just work the phones. but then the second coach didn't come in tonight. So Darly's class got combined with another class. The other class was a small one, but it was all very young boys who had the attention span of gnats! I think I was more annoyed with two girls in Darly's class though.

The girls were hogging the equipment. when it was their turn, if they messed something up they backed up and went again, and again and again... and then after their turn they wouldn't get off the mats! I spoke with the coach about it though and she did try to keep those girls in line. Hopefully it's better when they have their normal class. And I did say something to the coach in front of one of their parents. (HAHA!) but who knows if he was even paying attention.

I was seriously thinking that I should put Darly on the team just so she would have a class with kids who were serious and not monkeying around. I just hope that the coach who didn't show up didn't quit. That would be sad to go through that again. sigh!

Today I finally called to get an appointment to get my hair cut...but I found out that my stylist moved...to a shop over near my old stylist. ugh! I think that the price they charge for a cut should be lower though, but this place charges based on the experience of the stylist...who knows what level they've put our gal at. We'll see. Darly wants her hair cut too. I should get before and after shots. We're going in on Thursday.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-26643585762402521102009-05-01T09:25:00.000-06:002009-05-01T09:46:08.488-06:00New GymYesterday Darly & I went to the new gymnastics gym to have her evaluated. I knew I would like the owner right off and I did, he's just like his son. At the front desk when we walked in was a coach that we used to have at our old gym...she had to quit over there when she married our favorite coach. Okay, before I confuse you too much...let's give you a cast of characters:

Favorite coach (B) @ old gym is the son of the owners of the new gym (T & M) and the husband of the coach (A) who now works at the new gym but used to teach Darly.

So the evaluation was with the TEAM coach (D). He has been coaching for over 20 years and used to coach at a local college. In the evaluation they're supposed to just tell the girls what to do and watch them. But coach D couldn't help himself and gave Darly some pointers on how to fix up her skills. pointers that Darly should have been getting at her old gym but didn't. It was amazing how quickly she was able to straighten up her roundoff with just a few tips. I would really love Darly to be in this guy's class!

Coach D said that Darly has the foundation to be on the TEAM if she wants to. But he asked her and she said she didn't want to compete. And while I would really like for Darly to be in Coach D's class, this is really about her, not me. Coach D said that she could be in the intermediate class (where they work on the TEAM skills) and if she ever changes her mind, he would be happy to put her on the TEAM.

So we talked to Coach T (the owner) and he was willing to have Darly start that evening. We got to meet the coaches of the class and they both seemed very nice. Darly decided to wait until next Tuesday instead (I think she thought that she might have a chance to have a sleepover at her friend's house) and that sounded fine to me. So I filled out the paperwork and she's set for next Tuesday. And for now that works perfectly with her schedule. The new class is the same level as her old class and it is at the same time.

I've told Darly that it's all up to her. I hope she likes it.

I kinda think that she had other things on her mind. Yesterday we dropped DH off at 3:30am for him to head over to the sandbox. We're both doing okay, trying to catch up on our sleep. I'm trying to get our schedule filled up so that we can keep busy and fill the void. DH checked in last night with 5 emails mostly from the USO at the airport! I'm sure he'll be busy starting today, but I hope he's able to send us plenty of email while he is gone. Oh, I promised to send Darly his email address so she can write to him.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-48310701739872020512009-04-28T23:28:00.000-06:002009-04-28T23:28:11.980-06:00QUIT!Tonight Darly quit her gymnastics gym. She's actually very happy about it, and I'm mad that it came to this.

We had thought that once the hockey season was over that her coach would be at the gym and that Darly could just try very hard to get the skills she needed to be out of this class by the time the hockey season started back up. We were even going to take some private lessons too.

But then the gym finally decided to hire a new coach. One would think this is a good thing, but apparently Mr Coach wasn't ready to give up teaching two classes at once. Did I tell you about that? Right before I sent him the email he had decided to combine Darly's class with his higher level class. Darly hated that because she doesn't like Mr Coach's way of teaching...frankly I don't either. He belittles the girls.

So we have the new coach and Mr Coach teaching Darly's class and his class. We were assured that this situation was just temporary until the new coach got the hang of things, but it has been long enough in my opinion. While one would think that two coaches might be better than one, you would be wrong. Two coaches start chatting during class and don't ever watch their girls! At one point the girls were chatting too because the coaches hadn't noticed that they had finished the last skill. sigh

Darly spent most of the time she was in class tonight rolling her eyes at me and making chatty hand signals. She came and told me she was bored, I suggested that she just sit on the floor. The coaches seemed to notice that and had the girls move on to something else.

And then they were on the bars. New coach had the girls just swinging on the low bar. Mr Coach wanted the girls to stand on the low bar and hop to the high bar and grab it, then swing a few times before dropping to the floor. For most of the girls he was grabbing them and carrying them through the jump, but for Darly and one other girl he was having them make the jump themselves. I'm not sure what happened, but Darly missed the bar. She hit her hands very hard on the bar, they were red. He must have said something because Darly was near tears when her turn there was over.

I flagged her to come to me and asked "Are you done?" she nodded. I gave her a hug and we got her stuff to leave. I didn't say anything to the coach. There's a chance that one of the other girls in the class was able to tell them that Darly left with me, but Darly thinks that she didn't notice.

I didn't get a call from the gym so I would assume they figured it out.

Every time Darly did a skill tonight she wasn't observed. The new coach for some odd reason kept watching the girls that were with Mr Coach. I was just getting madder by the second. I considered leaving with Darly many times before I finally pulled her out. I'm just sorry I waited until Darly got hurt to do it.

so I'll call the new gym tomorrow about getting Darly in. She's now very excited to try the new place out. I really hope that she likes the new coach, I just wish I could have said something to our favorite coach at the old gym, but seeing as he knows the owners of the new gym very well...I'm thinking that we'll still be in touch.

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-64768954515926429052009-04-28T16:17:00.000-06:002009-04-28T16:17:02.902-06:00Weekend update 4/25-4/28that's a long weekend! LOL! I've been meaning to check in here but things have been so crazy. Trying to get everything caught up around the house, toss in homeschooling coop and changing gyms and :p I'm beat!

Darly & I with some friends went to see Disney's Earth on Friday. It was very nice. Then we had lunch. fun day

Saturday we did loads of house stuff. DH went to turn on our water sprinkler system only to find that the pipe burst...again! It was the same pipe he had to replace last year. so he replaced that, then it was time to check the sprinkler heads...this year we lost 4.

Sunday we went to MIL's house and checked her sprinklers...she didn't loose any but she had someone "fix" her downspout and the "super intellegent" guy messed it up so it has a HUGE leak that directs the water flow right into MIL's basement! DH was out in the rain trying to figure out how he could fix that...it's going to take a total refit! DH is worried about his mom, it seems that of late she hasn't been making the best decisions.

Monday Darly & I went to a class on how to make trick photography with her digital camera. We then stopped by to check out a new gymnastics gym. The facility is really nice and now we need to have her evaluated to see what level this gym would put her in. When we came home I worked on the laundry and I was trying to get dinner ready and everyone fed so that I could be on the computer from 7:45 to 9:45 to work our homeschool co-op...well DH decided that he wanted to finish working on the sprinklers and he needed my help to turn on and off the sprinklers...meanwhile I was trying to do the laundry and fix dinner!

too much stress!

Today Darly & I went to a coop class on designing our own t-shirts... the folks have their own design transfer shop. they can put your logo on just about anything. It was all very cool and I had a shirt done too. I'll have to show you someday. ;)

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13532063.post-20556112935348758022009-04-23T12:03:00.002-06:002009-04-23T12:05:18.639-06:00Blogging newbieMy friend Marsi has started a new blog. See here in Colorado it seems that too many folks THINK they know what they're doing when it comes to driving in the snow, but they don't! That's how we end up with so many accidents I think. So here's my tips for how to stay safe.

1) If the snow is over a foot and they haven't plowed the streets...STAY HOME! Really, nothing is going to be open anyway so your trip is just a waste of time that could kill you. Is it worth it?

2) If the bottom of your car doesn't clear the top of the snow...STAY HOME! You would think that one would be a given.

3) Sports cars were NOT made to drive in the snow. Get off the road.

4) Invest in a good ice scraper with a brush to sweep the snow off your car. Not only will you save yourself a lot of headaches, you'll be doing the same for other drivers. Any idea how scary it is to have a snowball the size of a basketball flying directly at your windshield from another car? Not FUN!

5) Have good tires on your car. It is bad enough that the snow causes a lack of traction but if your tires can't even reach the road you have no business being out there.

6) Now is NOT the time to show off your race car driving skills! If others are poking along there's a reason...we don't want to be DEAD! Slow down!

7) But don't slam on your breaks either. Keep a good distance between you and the other cars...don't change lanes into someone else's buffer. And don't stop at the bottom of a hill...you need that momentum to get up the hill.

okay that's all I can think of now, but if you know some other good tips, please put them in the comments!

Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08167893445846427824renefe1@gmail.com11
