Up till this point, Safeway was the only mainstream supermarket around here that had it.Another discovery: the fish oil supplement I recently added to my routine, seems to have made my skin and hair noticeably less oily.Fish oil supplements are not all created equal...I took a Costco one long ago (maybe a year Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-61350222812132721832007-05-17T15:44:00.000-07:002007-05-17T16:03:51.717-07:00UpdateHi folks, I'm here updating the entire site...it's going to take a while, the short version is that we switched hosts late last year and it's meant moving what was then a four-year-old website to a new host. It hasn't been practical to transfer some of the pages with their old format so I've concentrated on doing the more active parts of the site first.Anyway. What's up...Quite recently I noticedColleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1159581170706174232006-09-29T18:26:00.000-07:002006-09-29T18:52:50.753-07:00BiotinI started taking a biotin supplement almost three weeks ago. Actually I started taking it for hair loss. I read on the beauty boards about it, did some online research (not that there is that much information about supplements online, try this page: Vitamins). You'll note on that page it says 2500 mcg would be the maximum amount of biotin to take daily, where 500 to 1500 mcg would be a "typical Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1156178110536824122006-08-21T08:54:00.000-07:002006-09-28T22:17:54.833-07:00Okay, that is not entirely accurate...Even if I take my multi-vitamin and Yasmin regularly--if I eat a lot of regular beef (as opposed to health food store type beef), I'll still start to get pimples again.By now of course I buy the majority of the milk I drink from Safeway (which, weirdly enough, started carrying growth-hormone-free milk a long time ago...peruse this blog and you'll get an approximate date). That's the cheapest Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1155963408826894472006-08-18T21:45:00.000-07:002006-08-18T21:58:10.456-07:00A few conclusions...Finally, someone is admitting that just maybe, there is a connection between the hormones in the food we eat and this relatively recent phenomenon called "adult acne":The Claim: Your Diet Can Bring on an Acne Outbreakbugmenot.comWasn't I saying this years ago? Also, I recently ran out of my multi-vitamin and I haven't been able to get out and buy it (I know, I know, I need to start buying it Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1145256211585822472006-04-16T23:31:00.000-07:002006-04-16T23:43:31.596-07:00White tea...Definitely works better than red tea, or green tea. By that I mean there is a noticeable improvement in my skin if I drink a mug of white tea every day. There is no particular noticeable improvement with the other two teas.I'm not saying don't drink them...they're healthy, and drinking the same old white tea day after day is really boring. I knew at one point I'd get sick of drinking the same oldColleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1144458282102103902006-04-07T16:18:00.000-07:002006-04-07T18:04:42.156-07:00Red tea vs. white teaHi! That's me. I took this pic today, the real reason was to show how the lipstick looked "on" (it's a beauty board thing). But my skin has been looking good these days, so I linked to it here.Along with all the previously-mentioned stuff that I do (Yasmin, daily multi-vitamin, avoid growth hormone in foods), I've added drinking tea to my routine. So far the best tea has been Celestial Seasonings Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1142146053202844092006-03-11T22:45:00.000-08:002006-03-11T22:47:33.203-08:00Beginning of new template designHoly crap! how did anyone ever read this blog before? How did I ever read it?I just changed the post part of the blog to a white background with black text, at least until I can design something better. I myself am tired of that old school deep red background/yellow text. It looks great but it's too hard to read.Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1142145288650272882006-03-11T21:47:00.000-08:002006-03-11T22:34:50.973-08:00UpdatesMy husband is noticing my improved skin. That says a lot, since he usually could care less about my makeup and so forth (admittedly I prefer it that way, I'd be suspicious of a guy being that interested in makeup). He said I should sell whatever I'd discovered to clear up my skin. (Being the old man, of course he was around when I still had acne...did I just say that? "When I still had acne"?)I Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1140304427304605002006-02-18T14:49:00.000-08:002006-02-18T15:22:36.806-08:00This and thatI got over my bad skin day pretty quickly. I started making a point of drinking my Celestial Seasonings White Tea at night. (Okay it's a bit tricky coordinating it so that I don't have to get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.)Then--perhaps unwisely--I got curious and starting surfing around looking for info on white tea and acne.Well...what can I say. The Internet anyway is Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1140143942786500212006-02-16T18:31:00.000-08:002006-02-16T18:39:02.796-08:00The ever elusive "bad skin day"What causes it? At least I'll admit I don't know. I'm so sick of "genetics," "hormones," all those meaningless "answers."I've gotten my skin to the point that a bad skin day, isn't all that bad any more. It's still annoying though. I'm wondering if it's cheap meat. I've largely cut down on this (which used to be a staple of my working-class-girl's diet), but how much free-range beef can you Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1138741016441679452006-01-31T12:48:00.000-08:002006-01-31T12:56:56.443-08:00Oh yeah...I forgot to mention how many sites were selling "cures" and "treatments" for adult acne. Some of them pulled up when I was searching for my own blog, i.e. those sites used my blog's name inside their content.I do not advocate any of these sites' promises. I don't take any of the stuff myself. I don't go to a dermatologist anymore. The last time, was years ago. I found a reference to Differin in Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1138740508575104622006-01-31T12:43:00.000-08:002006-01-31T13:20:32.676-08:00Hmmm...It's interesting. It is 2006. I've just googled around some to see if anyone has yet discovered the cause of adult acne. The usual, the same old stuff. First of all there is so little admission that adult acne is a new phenomenon. Adults did not have acne when I was growing up. Gee, how do you know that? Because all of the acne treatments were marketed toward teenagers until recently. That's how IColleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1133559887556692342005-12-02T13:28:00.000-08:002005-12-02T13:44:52.690-08:00Acne abroad?Recently I went on a holiday in Jamaica. It's a nice place btw, I have written a few posts about it elsewhere:The Lipstick Page Forums Beauty Blog: Makeup for a holiday in JamaicaThe Lipstick Page Forums Fashion Blog: Packing for a holiday in Jamaica...and I plan on writing more here:TheBroadroom.Net's Travel BlogI can admit I was curious to see if there would be any change in my skin, in JamaicaColleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1130528767456893192005-10-28T12:38:00.000-07:002005-10-28T12:46:07.456-07:00Oh yeah......about the white tea.I'm a horribly lazy person. The white tea (for some bizarre reason, only Celestial Seasonings white tea seemed to make a difference in my skin) does work. I don't know why. Drinking any other kind of tea, from green tea to other brands of white tea, does not produce results for me, at least the teas I've tried. That said, I haven't been bothering drinking it. It's delicious Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1130527831617057092005-10-28T12:12:00.000-07:002005-10-28T12:35:45.580-07:00UpdateI realize it's been a while...Not much in the way of breakthroughs. I've concluded that adult acne is caused by allergic reaction to something. The basis for this conclusion...One is that the "handful" (five, actually) of adults with acne that I've ever heard of--who figured out what was causing their acne, wholly or in part--were all allergic to something. One was allergic to parabens. Trying out the "blog this" link...and I really should blog the acne stuff here.
I checked out the health food store yesterday, just a quick check. They had one type of "green tea leaf extract" capsules, $15-something for 60 capsules.
Not overly tempted. Still interested in the idea of taking white tea in capsule form, if only for the convenience, but Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1119109389139296952005-06-18T08:35:00.000-07:002005-06-18T08:43:09.143-07:00White tea, continuedI have been drinking white tea (Celestial Seasonings, the white peach and pear ones) every day now since last posting about it on the 13th. I've even stepped it up to 2 cups per day--large mugs (which is how I drink tea anyway). It really is working. It doesn't help existing bumps heal faster, at all, that I can see. But--far more importantly--I'm getting fewer bumps/clogged pores to begin with.I Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1118684400404738712005-06-13T10:36:00.000-07:002005-06-13T11:07:25.833-07:00White tea seems to help my acneHere is part of a post I put in the Beauty Blog today:Now about the white tea. This is coincidence, but I bought some Celestial Seasonings White Tea (here is the tea page at the Celestial Seasonings site...no affiliation) at a health food store, drank a cup of it a few nights straight, and my (adult acne) skin seemed noticeably better.I thought, bleh, whatever...because with adult acne, it's Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1118261166913830832005-06-08T13:05:00.000-07:002005-06-08T13:56:59.773-07:00It's been a while!Okay! This is not a new blog. I started an Adult Acne Page in early 2001, had a couple of blogs...2002 and 2003...all detailing my (incredibly lengthy) experience with various conventional forms of adult acne treatment.I didn't post anything in 2004...probably I did elsewhere...anyhow, I would still like to have an adult acne blog. Still waiting for that miracle cure :)Oh yeah, and I don't write Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13522070.post-1118258506250955672005-06-08T12:19:00.000-07:002005-08-24T13:24:08.776-07:00Previous blogsThis is the final incarnation of this blog.Previous blogs may be found here:Adult AcneAdult Acne Blog 2002Adult Acne Blog 2003Colleen Shirazihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08852308543194030377noreply@blogger.com0
