Stolen Ancient Roman Bathtub Recovered

Someone must have prayed to St. Anthony to find the missing ancient Roman bathtub. According to iafrica.com, the bathtub was stolen in 2005 and just recently found in Spain by the Italian police by coincidence.

Not only were they the Italian police, but specialists in stolen artwork, who randomly came across this tub in a Spanish Mediterranean port city while on other business . The officers were browsing in an antique shop, where the owner said he bought the tub for €3000 (4,621.31 USD) at the end of 2005, thinking it was a good deal for the oval-shaped reproduction. Little did he know he got 99% off valued price. That's a bargain!

Today, the tub is worth at a mere €300,000 (462,031.00 USD). Don’t too bad considering it dates back to the era of the Roman emperor Hadrian, in the second century A.D.

Maybe the next owner won’t keep it in a garden of a villa, which is where it was originally stolen.

This tub clearly used it's Roman decent as an advantage on St. Anthony's list.

VTB goes to NYC for SES Conference

An opportunity of a lifetime struck Vintage Tub interns this week when the General Manager, Allan Dick, Jr., invited us to attend the Search Engine Strategies 2008 Conference and Expo at the Hilton in New York City. We woke up at 5 am on March 18th like little kids on Christmas morning to start our travel into the city for a full day of fun.

Defining Fun:

Listening to presentations and panel discussions that cover literally all aspects of search engine-related promotion.
Choosing between 16 different sessions all in one day, ranging from Introduction to Search Engine Marketing, Universal Search to Optimization, Analytics and Paid Search.
Having the sessions presented by the industry's top Search experts and representatives of the Search Engines themselves, just to name a few:

Google, Acronym Media, Microsoft, bigmouthmedia, Hitwise, IBM, Medio, and comScore.

Learning the most innovative and current technology that even advanced search marketers were not unaware of until this week.
Meeting and networking with people of similar interests in ecommerce.
Visiting the 100’s of expo booths to stock up on pens and sticky notes.
Searching booths for better gifts like Steak Media's purple cow, Acronym Media's hand sanitizer for “hands-on search” and delicious baked cookies from Omniture.

Although the 7 of us are all SEMPO Certified, we were still impressed by the amount of new info we learned in just one day and can only imagine being there for 4 days. I also noticed something about the environment we were in; we were the youngest people there. There were plenty of young business men and women, but they were clearly employees of their business, not college students. There were very few interns here because employers would rather invest their money for a "platinum pass" in their employees before interns (let alone seven!). I’m sure I can speak for the rest of the interns when I say that it made us all appreciate the trip that much more.

At 6 pm, when the conference sessions were complete, our day was far from finished. Leaving the Hilton, we relocated to the Manhattan Penthouse where our manager threw a networking dinner party with over 120 guests from the conference and industry. As if the day couldn’t get better, I was able to speak one on one with reps from SEMPO, 360i, ESPN, Microsoft, Google and many more, which deserves greater depth in a later post. With all this, a career experience of a life time was created.

Thank you to everyone (especially Allan, Mike and Regina) who made this day possible for us. One for the books.

Intrigued by Hillary Clinton’s “Kitchen Sink” Campaign, we suggest the entire Presidential race be won through the battle of various household items.

Although the saying may be "everything but the kitchen sink," Barak Obama's 11 straight primary victories forced Clinton to use the last resort; the kitchen sink. It turns out to be her weapon of choice after winning the March 3rd primaries in Ohio and Texas.

Clinton’s Ohio and Texas primary victories are going to require Obama to come back with something bigger than the kitchen sink. An appreciate rebuttal for Obama in theme with appliances, yet adding a twist, would be to forget the kitchen and move to the bathroom. Being a specialist in the both kitchen and bathroom industry, we suggest the bathtub. Put Claws in a Clawfoot Tub; Bathe a Cat

Giving a cat a bath literally puts the claws into any clawfoot tub. Most people associate a clawfoot bathtub with an enjoyable, relaxing experience. This connection is quickly broken when anyone tries adding two variables that don’t mix well: cats and water. Cats' claws create a less than pleasurable encounter, but luckily we have tips for bathing a feline that won’t leave you both traumatized.

Start bathing the feline when it is a kitten, helping reduce the fear of water.
Wear long sleeves and long rubber gloves, their nails are less likely to go through rubber.
Trim their nails prior to the bath
Thoroughly brush anyway the undercoat before the bath
Prep everything prior to submerging the feline

Shampoo, 4-5 inches of warm water, towels, cup, etc.

Use a plastic cup to gently pour water over the cat's body, but not the head.
Three cap fulls of a nontoxic wetting agent, like Shaklee’s Basic H, soaks the fur coat faster.
Loosely put cotton balls in their ears to keep the water out.
Use a wash cloth around face to avoid getting water in their ears, eyes, and mouth.
Close the bathroom door to keep the cat from running to hide.
Completely rinsing off the shampoo is extremely important. Avoid continuous rinsing by adding ½ cup of vinegar to two quarts of water in a bucket and scoop over cat’s coat to remove all traces of soap residue.
Avoid running water while the cat is in the tub; noise and splashing of the faucet causes fear.
For long haired cats, use conditioner during bath then blow dry on low, not brushing until completely dry.

The Lone Star State is sharing its shine with a new star in town. One of our customers remodeled their Texan bathroom and won “Best Bath” in “Top Twenty” of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. The entire bathroom was remodeled using all Vintage Tub and Bath products from the medicine cabinet on the wall, past the basin drop in sinks, to the clawfoot tub resting on tub coasters on the floor. If we had a “Customer of the Year” award, the renovators, David and Sharon Morris, would win it hands down in my book.

This vintage style Farmhouse bathroom may look authentic with a sliding wooden door, cast iron clawfoot tub, and double sink console created from old furniture, but through innovative drip-free faucets and 1.6 gallon per flush toilet, it is far from old and out-dated. The owners were even able to stay within their $15,000 budget by doing the work themselves. Daylight savings time may be coming to an end on November 4th, but that doesn’t mean energy savings should end as well. Vintage Tub and Bath wants to invite our customers to help make a difference by "going green" via water conservation. The bonus to saving water is saving both the environment and money. Some states’ water utilities even offer rebates for the purchase of exceptionally efficient electric and water appliances. A quick, one time modification or purchase saves hundreds of gallons a week.

With water running through all our primary products here at Vintage Tub and Bath, we happen to know a thing or two about cutting corners in water usage.

Here’s simple, one time changes that create long-term savings:

Place a plastic bottle or bag filled with pebbles and water in the toilet’s water tank. This displaces water and the toilet will use less water with each flush.
Re-position the lawn mower blades one level higher. This cuts back on lawn watering through less water evaporation with the longer grass.
Plant shrubs and flowers that require less water. Most nurseries should provide a wide selection and assistance.
Replace out dated appliances with water efficient appliances meeting these requirements:

· Toilets- The ultra–low flush toilets use less than one and a half gallons to flush compared to the old 5-7 gallon flushers.

· Bathroom Faucets- The maximum flow should not exceed 1.5 gallons per minute.

· Shower Heads- Purchase any that use less than one gallon in 20 seconds.

It is time to get creative! I know it is hard to find time to do home projects when you have children; but decorating your child's bathroom is different. This is a chance for you to get them involved in your activities and give them a chance to express their creative side. Now, I only suggest that you decorate a child's bathroom if you plan on living in your home for many years and if you plan on having more children who could use the bathroom. We all know children grow up so fast and their styles are going to change; so don't go to all the trouble of re-decorating if it will only last a few years.

You want to make sure you incorporate bright colors and fun touches into your bathroom but also keep it functional and easy for your child to keep clean and tidy. If you don't know where to start; I suggest Home Depot or Lowe's. They offer lots of decorating idea books. Once you have narrowed your decision to 2 or 3 bathrooms; let your child choose which one they would like to have. You can then go pick out your stencils and borders and also your choice of paint. If you want an underwater theme then turquoise would be your best bet. If you are looking for a jungle theme then a light green would be perfect. Beach theme would require light blue, sea green, or sandy beige colors. However, if your bathroom adjoins a bedroom you want to continue with the same color pattern.
