Yesterday evening at The Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, all the AP music theory students from my school (myself included) and other neighboring schools and districts were invited to dinner, a q&a with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra's conductor Jaap van Zweden, and a rehearsal. We all seemed to have enjoyed ourselves and had a great time socializing with one another. After watching a snippet of the orchestra's rehearsal, one of my friends and I decided to take a few snapshots in front of the new Winspear Opera House.

Tomorrow I will be rehearsing with the All-Region Orchestra as well as Saturday. Then on Saturday afternoon, we will have the actual concert. We'll be playing Night on Bald Mountain, as seen on Fantasia. I think it's a pretty sick piece.

halloween 2009

Guess what I was for Halloween this year? A toy soldier! I had many people ask me what I was, but everyone seemed to love my costume. I got a lot of compliments from strangers out in the street while I was out trick-or-treating (yes, I still do it; shoot me). What was really funny is that we were rehearsing 'The Nutcracker' in full orchestra at school and one of my friends pointed out that my costume matched what we were playing!

These ladies had the best costumes of the year! They made their costumes themselves. I couldn't help but as to take a picture of them when I came up to their house. I love how some people really work hard on their costumes.

I just came back from shopping today. I'll take pictures of my buys later this week. I'm going to be super busy practicing since I have some piccolo auditions on Saturday. If you want to keep up with me, I'll be updating every now and the on my Twitter account.

It's been quite a while since I've last updated this thing...These pictures highlight the best parts of last week (Red Ribbon Week).

Laurel Leaf headband, $18.

I wore the headband for Time-Warp Day and aimed for the Roman attire with the headband and a one-shoulder blouse.

The Wind Ensemble (find me). Our Wind Ensemble and Orchestra had concerts Wednesday and Thursday night.

Violins backstage. Philip Glass used our auditorium (Montgomery Arts Theatre) to rehearse his program. I got a chance to see a part of the rehearsal and one of the members came over to us and explained who was who.

Red day.

I wore my old basketball shoes (they definitely don't look old), acid wash jeans, and a red v-neck for red day. I look very...80s? Hahaha. Anyways, I guess the photo reflects how tired we turned out to be by the end of the week. The one on the right is of my new camera! :)

The media is coming to school tomorrow...AGAIN. It's overwhelming, but it's fun. I'll probably end up being on the telly again since they want me up on stage. This time, Troop 1-36 is visiting our school. Troop 1-36 is a group of soldiers. Our school's principal's daughter's husband is in it, so everyone at school had been gathering donations. Now, they're coming over to tour our school and meet us. We'll be having an assembly. Hopefully my teacher will let me out of class. I'll be taking my camera to take some snapshots.

It's the end of the month of September and attached to this post is one of my newest buys. It's a newsboy cap from Nine West. I wore it to school today and everyone loved it!
I'll be busy this weekend - rehearsing and performing. I'll see if I can snap some pictures of my adventures. I've also ordered a new camera so I can record some videos like some of my readers have been requesting me. I still have to wait a week for it to come in and I'm really excited. All my pictures are taken by this humongous dinosaur! I'm still going to keep it for emergencies. (:

I apologize for not updating my blog. I've been terribly occupied! I was surrounded by local media for the past two weeks, was on the front page of Dallas ISD's website for a week, but all they hype has toned down. Phew! If you have tried to contact me, I probably have already read your messages; I just haven't had the time to reply.

I made a t-shirt for Jarrod (The Honorary Title), who I met over two weeks ago, with the phrase, 'I Heart Mama Gorbel'. If you guys don't know, Mama Gorbel is his mom's character which he cross dresses in when making his Mama Gorbel videos (YouTube them). Brian Lerner, the director, saw this photo last night of the shirt and he said it completely made his week!

Yesterday, U.S. Ambassador Ron Kirk made a visit to our school to talk about Obama's speech. I was up on stage with him along with other carefully selected students. I got on the news! I will post screen shots later. I am very occupied with homework and starstruck after meeting so many famous people (read previous post).

(blog post title, from K.I.A. by Jet) Seriously, this weekend was like winning the lottery.

On Friday, I received yet again another small FedEx package with Jet's new album, Shaka Rock, along with an additional poster.

On Saturday, I was invited to attend Paolo Nutini's sound check at The House of Blues! He answered a few questions, but it was very hard to understand what he was saying because he is so timid and his voice is so soft. He was obviously a little nervous since he was playing around with his water bottle while answering questions until he dropped it. The guy in charge of the event offered to pick it up for him, but Paolo said it was fine. I'm not surprised of his timidness. He's always been very shy. The sad thing was that we couldn't get his autograph or touch him (to check if he was really real)! At least I was a few feet away from him. :)

After sound check, I went over to The Prophet Bar for Jarrod's concert (The Honorary Title) - with free admission because I was on the guest list. I saw him in the back and almost had a stroke! He looks like a god, basically. Three other musicians played before him, so I didn't get a chance to hear him perform and I had to leave. I kept pointing him out to my mom and when she finally did see him outside in the parking lot, she literally dragged me over to him because I'm such a chicken. The three of us then had a full conversation (omg). He asked what my full name was and he mentioned that he actually knows me from (not saying where, haha). We talked about his hilarious Mama Gorbel videos. I mentioned to him that I never received the autographed CD I won from his Epic Fu performance, so he signed a copy of his tour EP and gave it to me! :) Jarrod is such a nice guy and I actually got to touch him (unlike Paolo)!

I survived the first week of school! I currently have four AP classes and I am trying to add AP Spanish IV on the list, so that would make a total of five. It's ridiculous, I know, but I'm sure I can manage. This week was like testing the waters and I now know kind of what I will expect for the rest of my junior year.

My first back-to-school outfit! I got a lot of people stopping me (and really creepy staring) at school because of my vest, my jeans, and the shoes I wore (not my sneakers, I wore heels). One comment I received (from a girl who saw me a floor above) was that my vest looked Michael Jackson and Madonna inspired. The other half of my stares were probably because of my new haircut. I got a lot of shocked faces, but everyone loved my do! :)

Another lady with wicked hair is La Roux. I think she's really pretty, except the makeup in her music video, Bulletproof, isn't very flattering. Not the best vocalist, but Bulletproof is a contagious song.

I've been selected as one of the twenty people across the US to host a JET Listening Party! :) At the event, my mates and I will be listening to new singles from Jet's new album, 'Shaka Rock', including four tracks that have never been released to the public.
I received a package in the mail with an advanced burned copy of the tracks and five posters that look like this:

Jet is an Aussie band that has gotten pretty famous over the years (except that they don't suck) and traveled all over the world, so this is a pretty big deal I've gotten myself into. Kind of like winning the jackpot. :)

Yesterday, I received a little present in the mail from Nylon Magazine and Hudson Jeans - the summer 2009 mix tape! Some of my favorite tracks are 'Barcelona' by the Plastiscines and 'Might Like You Better' by Amanda Blank. I'm so lucky - this is my second gift from Nylon! Not everyone can say their mom is a cosmetologist, but I sure can! Since I was young I was taught how to apply makeup properly and how to take proper care of my skin, hair, and nails. One of the benefits is that she can buy professional hair products at a lower price than retail value! She recently purchased me one of my favorite hair products from Sebastian in a gift box! Sebastian Light Shampoo, Light Conditioner, and Trilliant. Along with it came a free v-neck designed my Charlotte Ronson! Not sure how much she got the set for, but it must have certainly been a great deal considering Ronson's shirts can retail around $100-$200.

My camera has used up all the batteries at home and I have not been able to take pictures! I thought I would post two wonderful shots from Elle Decor's June 2009 issue. Just looking at pictures like these motivate me to tidy up my room and imagine what I could do with it. The walls of my room are silver - but I might decide to change my mind - and I need new furniture. But before that, I need to clean up my computer desk!
