It's crossed my mind how, gradually, in such a way that you don't notice it...as an American, you become less and less active, unless you consciously do something about it.It struck me that before, if I were shopping for something, I'd jump into the car and drive to a store and look around, and possibly drive to a couple other stores and look around. I've been taking a calcium supplement regularly...not twice per day as I'm supposed to, but almost every day at least...and I do feel better. Much, much better.I missed the webmd article on this last time: Relief for PMS. This includes not only calcium and magnesium, but some reference to vitamin B6 and vitamin E.I'm less enthusiastic about the herbs, if only Colleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1160093831078997502006-10-05T16:34:00.000-07:002006-10-05T17:25:36.190-07:00So, what happened to Atkins?I've been link-checking our Women Bloggers page over the past few days...there's no way to do that automatically of course, since many blogs are still up but haven't been updated in years, while many have been forwarded and are still current.Anyhow I stumbled across a reference to the Atkins diet, circa 2004 (sabrinaspeak) and I got to feeling slightly nostalgic. Have people really become slimmerColleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1141850114937255452006-03-08T12:25:00.000-08:002006-08-23T22:11:53.456-07:00More on calcium and PMS...Okay...so I've been taking the calcium supplement regularly...it's the same Costco one...I see from reviewing my post of one month ago, that I was supposed to take it the right way (twice per day), well I haven't been. It's been the same once per day.I feel there has been an improvement. It's subtle. It's not something you would necessarily notice if you weren't looking for it. That doesn't Colleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1139288548153325982006-02-06T20:58:00.000-08:002006-02-06T21:02:28.186-08:00Calcium and PMS #2Okay it's getting to be that time of the month again.I've been taking calcium supplements since the last TOM. I haven't been very good about it...you're supposed to take the calcium pills I'm taking twice per day. I keep forgetting the second pill, so it's more accurate that I've been taking them once per day, probably missing a few days.I do feel better. Not perfect, but not nearly as bad as Colleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1137005989855754332006-01-11T10:55:00.000-08:002006-01-11T10:59:49.873-08:00Hmmm...Well I'm back. It turns out I had something more than just PMS. I started throwing up that same night, actually I threw up the calcium supplement too. The next day I couldn't do anything. I just had to stay in bed.Anyhow, so I'll probably resume the calcium supplements tomorrow, I just don't feel like taking them today.I'm really curious now to see if it works. There was a little blurb on the HowColleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1136871505809443712006-01-09T21:16:00.000-08:002006-01-09T21:38:25.840-08:00Does anything work for PMS?I asked myself that today...I don't get it nearly as often as I used to, but when I do get it, it's crippling.Since most information of this kind can typically be found only on the Internet, I did some googling around...frankly...not much new. I could just as well be asking this same question twenty years ago.The one thing I found to try is calcium/vitamin D:How PMS WorksPMS ReliefApparently you Colleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1136692712486810282006-01-07T19:41:00.000-08:002006-01-07T20:01:02.950-08:00New Year's resolutionsThose sound like good resolutions.I tend to make only one NY's resolution per year but I do tend to keep whatever it is. Last year...my daughter was still in kindergarten while my son was in the regular grades. K and the other grades do not start at the same time, much less finish at the same time; K is only three hours per day.So unless you put your kindergartener in daycare, you're stuck comingColleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1136335685076673472006-01-03T16:32:00.000-08:002006-01-03T16:48:05.110-08:00New Year's ResolutionsI actually wrote up my resolutions on December 30th and started on them the 31th. I was sitting on the couch feeling blah for no reason and got sick of it. I've had those blahs for months and I know they're because of work. However, it just makes no sense to look for another job just now. So I made up a list of things I need to do. Then I got a tip from, of all people, my father-in-law (although I suspect it was my mother-in-law who figured it out :D). He said to stop wearing pantyhose. At the time I was wearing No Nonsense. NN used to have one of those cotton panel things but at one point they quietly switched it to all-synthetic.Anyhow I stopped wearing pantyhose. He never actually got my weight. Eh, I can't say I'm crazy about my doctor. He's a little too old school for my tastes. He doesn't believe in weightlifting for instance. Doesn't burn enough calories he says. Forget exercising for other health benefits... He just doesn't seem up to date when it Raphaellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03968296925600842815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1124741756898673462005-08-22T13:10:00.000-07:002005-08-22T13:15:56.900-07:00Hmmm...It seems as if you're on track then. :)I'm not so sure about numbers on a scale. I go by the old "if you can pinch more than an inch," along with the pants thing, i.e. I also have a set of pants. I'm not willing to buy anything bigger, so I have to stay in the right weight range or else I'll have nothing to wear!Do you guys do the pinch thing? That was very big in the 70's or whenever it came outColleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1123762133624540582005-08-11T05:06:00.000-07:002005-08-11T05:08:53.630-07:00Actually, my doctor wanted me to lose 5-10 pounds but I gained 5 so it's now 10 to 15. He was nice enough to say I wasn't THAT fat. Thanks. I added 5 pounds if only because I can never lose the last 5 pounds. Just a mental trick I'm playing on myself... I usually wear a size 8 now but it used to be a 6. And when I say "used to", that means a year or two back. I actually still feel and look fine Raphaellehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03968296925600842815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1120609666099928552005-07-05T17:11:00.000-07:002005-07-05T17:27:46.103-07:00Are you sure you're not trying to lose too much weight?I suppose American standards might be "meatier," but I never think that much about trying to stay the same size I was back when. I did change sizes. I used to wear small in everything (not extra small, just small) and now I wear medium. I can't wear small size shirts anymore. But that's it; that is the size I am now. I could push it up if I Colleen Shirazinoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13241691.post-1120126515123426672005-06-30T03:14:00.000-07:002005-06-30T03:15:15.126-07:00I'm happy the diet, fitness, and body image blogs were merged into one. Makes more sense to me that way.In recent months, I've come to realize something pertaining to my health. Or rather, I knew it before but I REALLY learned the lesson. Yeah, diet and exercise are key components of a healthy lifestyle but they're not the only ones.
