Hierarchtical structures are always a hassle...they are easier to deal with if you know they are a specific depth, as you can do them with a series of inner joins, but if they are allowed to be of an unlimited depth, that doesn't work. Recursive query structures are limited in earlier version of SQL Server, though in 2005, as I understand it, they have gotten better, but many haven't upgraded yet
