We expect to plant approximately 40 Scots Pines (10’ tall), 20 Maples, 20 Oaks, 20 Crabapples and 20 Ash trees. We also plan to install automatic irrigation so that the trees can enjoy a regular, deep drink of water so that they can grow to love their new home in the Rhodes Valley.

During the week leading up to the actual planting, we will be preparing the planting sites. We will be using donated machinery and labor to help us trench and pre-dig the holes prior to planting day. While the machinery digging helps save some of the sweat, we still have to hand dig the final six inches, and separate the rocks from the soil. Then we have to replace the soil, using top soil to make up for the rocks that we removed. Finally, we will use about six inches of wood chips and bark mulch to help protect roots and to conserve the water we are using.

We also hope to have the majority of the irrigation piping installed and the trenches ready for backfilling and for replacing the grass/ reseeding.

In addition to members of the Kamas Valley Lions Club, we expect to see Boy Scouts from Kaysville, skateboarders from Salt Lake City, and a host of everybody else from around Summit County. Currently, Rainbird, Allwest Communications, South Fork Hardware, AquaDocs and Neil Roy Irrigation have made donations to assist with the effort. We will update the list as more join in.

For additional Information, please contact Planting Coordinator Jason Barto (435) 731-6333 or Grand Marshall Don Kerr at (435) 640-3914.

OakleyWeather.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18337649067874902848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1304991521932155651.post-44747789283114103882009-04-06T13:43:00.000-07:002009-04-06T14:12:49.611-07:00Oakley City Center Conceptual Master Plan Model approved by Oakley City Council

After years of designing the Oakley City Center Conceptual Master Plan Model was presented to the public and approved by the Oakley City Council Thursday Night April 2nd. Mr Howells was in no way at fault for this accident!(wrong place wrong time). The driver in the Dodge (Mr Hockins) was to blame. It was snowing the morning of the accident and the roads were slushy. We were doing about 45 when mr Hockins passed, he never fully got back into his own lane although he had plenty of time, he rode over the yellow dotted line causing him to clipped the side of the postal truck which than spun out of control and hit me and my friend, causing us to roll over side ways once on the road then flipping end over end twice off into the ditch, than Mr Hokins was fully in the other lane causing the collison with Mr Howells. Its very sad some one had to die because of this. But we are gratefull no one else was seriously injured. The daughter was pretty banged up and went to the hospital but will be ok. We are very sorry for the family of the Howells!! We all need to pay more attention to what we are doing on the roads because these things can happen anywhere anytime. Are thoughts and prayers go out to the Howells."

OakleyWeather.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18337649067874902848noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1304991521932155651.post-78800630918847613772009-02-02T12:36:00.001-08:002009-02-09T14:28:06.302-08:00The Old Kamas Valley Co-op Building demolished
The old Kamas Valley Co-op Building was demolished today reveling the new building. I first copied the All West Classified Ads from their TV Channel 3. This made our Classified Page look very active and brought in many free ads. The past few months I did not copy any and there have been few ads. Since many businesses advertise with All West at @ $40.00+ a month I hope that you reading this can give me your comments on this situation. I have talked to many Dish/DirectTV subscribers (which I estimate maybe 1/3 or more of our population) that never look at the All West Channel.

So do I keep copying the All West Channel Ads? Do I aggressively launch a Classified Ad campaign which consists of posters on all Summit Valley Bulletin Boards or maybe even a All West Classified Ad??? Or am I so frustrated with the lack of participation here in Kamas Valley that I consider closing OakleyWeather.com? WE HAVE RECIEVED LITTLE COMMENT HERE. NOW IS THE TIME FOR YOU TO INFLUENCE THE FUTURE OF THIS WEBSITE. There was a log and debris jam today in Kamas that caused some minor flooding at 200 W 200 N. Talking to the Provo River Water Guys working at Beaver Creek and the Canal in Kamas, most thought it is a normal flow for the first run-off of the year and they were not expecting any flooding. The building was registered as a Historic Building but the county and owners saw it as well past the restoring stage. So the county had no problem granting them the permit.

Most of the old building solid block will be crushed by DC Transport for their use and the massive amount of metal will be recycled. The old mill was used to combine combinations of grains from different sources by pulling them through their different pipes high in the sky thus creating a controlled mixture for bagging unique to each farmer in the valley.

There are no final plans yet, but Kamas Valley Co-op is planning on building a 5,500 square foot building right to the back of their still existing store. On completion of their new building this old building will also be demolished. The New Store will feature a Bigger Tire Department, with more Lawn and Garden Supplies. They are also planning on more Feed, Tack and Pet Supplies. They will also have more Hardware and Western Apparel. The Co-op features IFA and Purina brands. We look forward to seeing their progress this summer and look forward to stopping in not driving by their store in the future. As the valley slowly grows into a more resort type atmosphere with projects like High Star Ranch Resort and Victory Ranch we need to welcome the change and support our local community business like Kamas Valley Co-op. The council heard public comments including “this looks like a resort” and “we don’t want to be Park Cityized” but in general the Marian residents that questioned the project 2 weeks ago have given their approval. They commented on how pleased they were to see the current detailed plans tonight and were much more accepting that this would be a good thing for Kamas City. Both Ditch Companies were positive giving the responsibility to High Star. The Mail delivery, the School Bus access and Snow Removal were all well address when questioned.

The council comments started out with Kevan Todd explaining how the annexation will keep the development in this area under control compared to having a separate sewer district. Dan Littledike then gave his positive approval followed by Diana Atkinson giving her approval. Rod Atkinson still wasn’t sure and Rodney Smith was the only “na” vote and said “he had to vote his conscious” and still questioned the future Sewer Costs.

What will we now see? This summer they are planning on establishing the roads and property boundaries which will take them all summer. Then no doubt the economy will dictate the pace of development in the years to come.

OakleyWeather.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18337649067874902848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1304991521932155651.post-39798224399844852342008-03-17T08:54:00.000-07:002008-03-17T08:57:38.595-07:00Francis Neighborhood Meetings BeginThursday night, Alison Weyher, Francis Town Planner, lead a meeting at the Town Hall of approximately 25 Wild Willow homeowners in the first of a series of community meetings. If you have not done so, please send your letters/comments to the Council members. And try to be there.
PLANNING COMMISSION meeting : Dec 19th @ 7pm It has just been announced that the CHURCH is re-approaching the commission asking for a vote/approval of their plan. This is only the SECOND time they have approached the commission and last time there were NUMEROUS concerns about their plan (road thru Wild Willow? Traffic Study? Steeple height? Exterior look?) Let us caution the commissioners that an approval now would be a HASTY one...especially if all the concerns are not addressed and conditions satisfactory. Remember that they intend to run traffic through Wild Willow even if they say a road will be built to Hwy 32 thru the school's property and thru the proposed commercial development.

So there are TWO important issues this week that will directly effect Wild Willow neighborhood. Call your friends and neighbors, contact your commisioners, and let your voices be heard.

OakleyWeather.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18337649067874902848noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1304991521932155651.post-74957822242606706472007-12-16T08:56:00.000-08:002007-12-16T09:25:55.747-08:00Kit Burton's Letter to Kraig J. First of all, it is very one-sided reporting on the Hilltop issue from the Mayor only.
Second, the reporter NEVER INTERVIEWED ME for this article yet includes quotes from "Kristi Major".
Third, the Mayor calls us "political activists" and that whatever one does the rest follows. I don't know about you but I find that extremely offensive.
And this, from the group who obviously felt compelled to pull all the Hilltop signs out of MY yard and throw them in the ditch! Very childish indeed.

What do you think?
Kristi

EXCERPTS FROM ARTICLE:
Bergen lamented that the referendum is likely to pass, which means the intersection would stay open."That doesn't eliminate us from having to do something about the road," Bergen said. "Whether it's speed bumps or a one way, whatever we do with that road to try to protect ourselves, they're not going to like it." [REALLY? Did he even ASK US what we like or dont like? What is obvious to everyone but the Mayor is that we DONT LIKE the road closed!]
The mayor dismissed the most vocal critics as "political activists."
"What one does, the other one backs," Bergen said.

Here's the full article: https://webmailcluster.perfora.net/xml/deref?link=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.parkrecord.com%2Ftodaysheadlines%2Fci_7322967

OakleyWeather.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18337649067874902848noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1304991521932155651.post-25092853030025413332007-10-27T11:27:00.000-07:002007-10-27T11:29:37.089-07:00Francis City Letters to the EditorI urge all Francis residents to get out and vote on Tues, November 6th. We will be deciding new council members, and the fate of Hilltop Road. We are at a critical point in Francis’s history; poised on the edge of a build-out period that will shape our future forever. As taxpayers, we will decide who ushers us through the next several years of growth. Hopefully, the new and existing council members will unify and work hand-in-hand with our Planning Commission, who is our first line of defense in protecting our vision. Their calculated reports and opinions serve a vital purpose. We expect a transparent government who will embrace public input and participation. We should not have to endure ridicule or negative statements against any one group of residents, which continually divides our town into “us vs. them”. We expect town officials to take personal responsibility for, and encourage others to, raise the standards of how they behave and conduct business. Our new town council should also demand a knowledgeable and organized town office, able to produce documents in a timely manner and without bias. Most critical is the need for a town website, allowing us access to documents such as Agendas, Minutes, Budgets, and Department Reports. With the current outdated mindset, there is resistance to making this information readily available to the residents, and chasing it down can be a challenge. Francis town does not belong to any one man or woman. It is “our” town. Let your voice be heard! Vote on November 6th.
Sincerely,Tal Adair
Francis Resident

OakleyWeather.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18337649067874902848noreply@blogger.com0
