We are now open for business in our new location, #150 NW 6th Street ~ Newport. We are on the corner of 6th & 101, behind Lumberman's. Our new store has an indoor riding track for test rides and the kids, a wonderful Women's clothing section w/ dressing room and new lines of organic cotton clothing from Dude Girl & Gaiam, men's clothing department, KEEN shoes (and the new Keen cycling shoe), Pearl Izumi shoes & clothing, over 100 bikes in stock to fit every need. A large service area w/ 3 trained mechanics, a wonderful Park Tools area, BMX parts, bikes, and accessories, new nutrition center, shower & laundry facilities for cycle tourist, a great lounge with computer station and wi-fi throughout the building. We are now the largest bike store on the Oregon Coast and have something to fit every budget and every need. Come on in and see us at our new location, we look forward to meeting you.

The sign is up, the parking lot is in, the stairs and railings are in, & the lights are on! We are painting this week-end and carpets are being put in starting on Monday. We are doing a soft opening on Friday, May 23rd, in time for Memorial week-end. Our Ladies Night out is scheduled for Thursday, May 29th @ 6:30 PM and TREK Demo Tour on Saturday, May 31st 10-2.

Our 2nd floor is going in, the electricity is being wired on Monday, the heating system is in, the carpets have been picked and scheduled to be put in on May 5th, and the parking lot should be starting next week as well. We are looking at a grand opening for Memorial week-end!

The walls are almost complete and then a roof! The weather has been raining side ways and lots of wind so putting up siding has been a challenge to say the least. We are hoping that the work on the inside will begin next week which will keep the workers out of the elements and hopefully working much faster! We are starting to pick out flooring, lighting, etc. and nervous and excited all at the same time.

Our insulation was delivered an extra window, or two, or five,(!)added and the siding began to go up today!!! It is really starting to look like a building and feels really BIG. El went to an eco building supply in Portland last week and we are looking at recycled flooring w/ hemp backing that doesn't put off any gasses, etc. Our second floor plans have changed many times over but we will have a large bathroom with shower and laundry facilities for cycle tourist, a custom "fit" area, a large office/apartment and space for our triathlon and camping gear. We are starting to make our larger orders to fill up the new store and just placed a huge order for womens workout & yoga clothing. Thanks for all your interest and support.

We returned from our trip to California where we caught a couple days of the "Tour of California" and where Elliott attended a "Fit" Seminar. The building now has a floor, plumbing for the downstairs bathroom, windows & doors are onsight and scheduled to be put in by weeks end. We are awaiting delivery of our insulation to begin putting the roof and siding on. We had an alternative energy consult to help reduce the buildings carbon footprint. We spent several hours with the consultant and came up with some great ideas that we are hoping to put into action to tread lighter on the earth!

The erection of steel has begun. Driving winds, hail, rain, and snow, yes snow, won't stop us now! Full speed ahead so we can be in by May 1st... or so!

Foundation completed!

Our foundation was completed this week. Our temporary power is in and the weather has been cooperating! The crane will arrive on Tuesday of next week and the building will begin to be erected. Our scheduled move in date is now May 1, just in time for Spring. I will now begin posting on a more regular basis as progress is finally being made!

We got the permits in our little hands today. We have an inspection in the morning and then concrete will be poured. Now we hope things will begin to move more quickly and we will be posting pictures and more entries to keep everyone updated.

Approval Granted

Hi All,
We had our hearing in front of the Newport Planning Commission on Monday night. We had 25 supporters in tow (all wearing Bike Newport gear) including Big Elliott - who drove up from Santa Cruz, the Pastor of our neighboring church, our banker, our realtor, kids from the Mountain bike team, Coast Guard, and many, many, wonderful customers. It was a bit shaky at some points but we won by a unanimous vote! They approved both of our variances and we will get the final sign off on the 18th of December - just in time for Christmas! A special thanks to Jim, an advocate for our store, a great customer, and sometimes employee, for all his work on our landscaping plan that the commission seemed impressed with and passed with flying colors. We have been overwhelmed with the support we have received from everyone to get our new store built and we thank each and every one of you. Let's hope this is the last hurdle for awhile and that we can get into our new digs by the Spring!

Planning Commission Meeting

CALLING ALL SUPPORTER!!!

Our planning commission meeting is set for next Monday, December 10th @ 7 PM. The meeting will take place in the city council chambers in City Hall. We would love for people to attend with us to show their support and if you are willing, to speak at the meeting. A decision should be made by the meeting end and we will hopefully be back on track to begin work on our new building by the new year. Keep us in your thoughts and attend if you can.

"Building Block"

The city approved our permit for our building but denied where we want to place the building on the lot! Apparently the lot next to us (where the church is) is zoned residential which means we must have a 10 ft. buffer on that side of our property. BIG problem as our building was built to completely fill our lot as we are zoned commercial and on a commercial lot you can have a zero lot line (unless you border a residential lot). The worst part is that the building was delivered the same day we got this bad news. We must now apply for a variance to the 10ft. buffer rule and hope it gets approved. We have had a ton of support from all of our neighbors and the church has written a letter on our behalf and many people have said they will come to the planning meeting and voice their support as well. We have to jump through all the correct hoops right now and will hopefully have our application for a variance in by the end of the week and I will keep people posted on the date of the planning meeting. Oh well, it's a bump in the road and a temporary "building block" but I believe we will get through this and get on our way to building the greatest bike shop on the Oregon Coast!!!

Update.... our building plans are back in Newport (after being sent to Eugene for inspection a month ago) and we will have the permits tomorrow! The ground work and concrete should begin this week-end and the building will begin to be delivered by next week-end! We have decided to add a shower & washer/dryer to the customer bathroom so that our weary cycle tourist can freshen up and do laundry while we complete any repairs. The "future home of Bike Newport" sign was put up today. Keep looking for updates as I hope they will be coming faster from this point on. We are so excited as things feel like they are coming together for our new store.

We purchased land this Summer to build our new shop. We bought the land behind Lumberman's in Newport; 150 NW 6th Street. This is across the street from our current location so the move won't be difficult! We broke ground today for the new home of Bike Newport! We are building a 5000 square foot bike shop as we have simply outgrown our current space and wanted to own our building. We hope to be in the new location in December of 2007. We will be expanding our inventory and will be adding new things such as camping gear, triathlon gear, and a custom fitting area. We will have a FULL ladies department with lots of bikes, clothing, shoes, and work out clothes. Our service department will also be expanding as well as our line of bikes, kids area, and many additions to the men's area. Stay tuned for more updates as we will post new pictures as things progress and keep people updated on everything.
