Patons Astra variegated has 133 yards (122 metres) and I used almost every speck…

. size 4.5mm (US7) 16” circular needle (you could also knit this back and forth on straight needles; I think you would add an extra stitch each side to accommodate the sewing up)

. furry companion (optional)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SG0chX5UEPI/AAAAAAAABzc/6mn7I2SZR7M/s400/4x42.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218858902867939570" />
ROAD MAP:

Cast on 96 stitches very loosely and knit in 4x4 rib (knit 4, purl 4) all the way around, forever and ever or until you have just enough yarn to cast off your stitches very loosely. If you tend to knit tightly, I suggest you go up a needle size or two for the cast on and cast off, otherwise you might smush your face when pulling the cowl over your head.

My cowl is 9 inches in height and fits over my ginormous head (23”) with ease, even with my glasses on. It’s snuggly around my neck, not too tight and not too loose. (I just realized that my nose is getting bigger as I age...and we won’t even talk about the bad hair day...look at the pretty cowl!)…

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SG0cDM0MUXI/AAAAAAAABzM/jgnICx9aW0s/s400/4x44.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218858384497594738" />
This pattern is adaptable to a bazillion different stitch patterns. You can change the rib count to accommodate the number of stitches; you can cast on a different amount of stitches to make it smaller or bigger, or knit it longer or shorter; it’s all up to you. My directions are just a guideline for your creativity...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SG0cPvkNPXI/AAAAAAAABzU/N5wF7NuUPPo/s400/4x43.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218858599984217458" />
Now wear with happiness, knowing your neck is warm and cozy and you just used up one stray ball of yarn from your stash. If you’re in the midst of a heat wave, you can still knit one and save it for a winter gift for yourself, a loved one, charity, etc., and if you're in a cold climate, you can throw it on right now...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SG0b8q-IJuI/AAAAAAAABzE/DHdgVR_HTWE/s400/4x45.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218858272333244130" />

For the non-knitters, we have baby hydrangeas...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SG0ec0kWyDI/AAAAAAAABz0/q-etNk2k_jU/s400/hydrangea+babies.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218861023688575026" />
and some are showing their blue colours...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SG0bv8ozguI/AAAAAAAABy8/lPuIROqoxyQ/s400/hydrangeas+2008.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218858053737349858" />

On that note, I will wish you a peaceful week, dear reader, and hope to see you next Friday. Now that is a good use of yarn, with minimal wastage; something to ponder as I finish the Rosewood cloth…

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SCNnxjb1iDI/AAAAAAAABhQ/kmT1d8v-sDs/s400/Rosewood.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198112495938930738" />
and another in Twilight Ombre...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SCRz74bjEII/AAAAAAAABh4/tMGW1HLyYx0/s400/Twilight+Ombre.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198407342489800834" />

Bath time…

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SCNnqDb1iCI/AAAAAAAABhI/cIViXGZU97k/s400/Bath+Time.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198112367089911842" />
I think this little guy is from the first batch of baby squirrels…

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SCNnijb1iBI/AAAAAAAABhA/n3oRTqxMj0k/s400/junior.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198112238240892946" />
Our hostas are breaking ground...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_vmUXcP5Vt3o/SCR0IIbjEJI/AAAAAAAABiA/TGi4d4LpeHY/s400/Hostas.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5198407552943198354" />

I was sent a link to this boogie woogie dance session and thought you might enjoy it.
