What you see here is an awesomely wonderful tasty meal ....

coffee!

It is the yummiest caffeine high yet!

Made with the local Tenom Coffee, served at the Tenom Coffee Cafe, I had tried it some years ago. It made a distinct impact on me - I was so high that as I sat on the toilet to pee, smelling the caffeine-laced discharge, I called up my friend who introduced me to the dish, telling her in a giggly way what I was doing.... groan.... am I posting this? OK, OK, I will. I mean how often do I do confess such loonyness.

Anyway, as you can see, it made an impression on me. So when a new friend came to town, I madly remembered this and took her to have lunch.

And the rest is history....

No, no, no. I didnt go peeing and phoning again.

I just had a meal over conversation and then went home.

Honestly.

Muaahahahahaha!

A Bicycle ON the Dining Table

Imagine going for dinner and finding a bicycle on the table!

Which is exactly what happened the other night! Apart from the exquisite food that was served in delightful textures and tastes, there was this bicycle on the table.But actually the bicylce was an ornament - a very cute little ornament with functional parts. And at the back of it carried some keropok, fried banana fritters and yam flakes. Yum!
We were having an Indian meal. In a nice posh place. The ambiance was unlike anything I had ever experienced and most conducive to a lovely evening with other folks who had worked hard together on a conference.The Spice Island. Definitely a worthwhile stop. I heard that we might be going there again next month! YUM!

Fire Part 3 - Update

First I gave you a video courtesy of my son who uploaded it for me.

Before that, I gave you some stills, which, I am told, had I telephoned a newspaper would probably have earned me a little bit of money!

Now, permit me to give you an update of the same fire.

This is how the site looks like just earlier this week. Sad isn't it.
The blackened areas seem to be permanent despite the recent showers of rain.
So much work still has to be done, just to make it safe. I wonder how much damage was incurred by the shop next door.
I am told that the downstairs of the main shop remains all right though. Interesting. The different levels must be well insulated.

An acquaintance sent me an email with a powerpoint attachment. In it were pictures of England. That made me think that perhaps I ought to share some of my snapshots of England with her.

Then I decided to go one step further .... and share them with you here.

Hope you like them. I enjoyed my time there.

This is a cul-de-sac where our friends house is located. We had a lovely few days there in outskirts of London with them.

This is in the picturesque town of Amersham. The church grounds to be precise.

The well-tended gardens and lawns are one of the outstanding features of the English countryside.

For some homes, there is not much garden. But the owners are not to be deterred - they find creative ways to bring some colour to their houses, like this hanging flower basket.

A Home Cooked Meal

After weeks, no months, of not doing so, we decided to have home cooked meal. For the past few months, Hubby had set the tone to eat out because he felt it was too much for us to cook and clean up at home. With both of us at work, leading full lives, and our children at that time also pretty hectic, it seemed a good idea.

Then when things settled a little, and with the older ones are around to help, we decided to cook again.

And so we did.

Dinner was a little later than usual, but it was nice. We had a somewhat international meal. You can see some photos here.

And now, if I were a cat, I'd curl up and purrrrrrr

Ketsana

The winds seem to come out of the blue. One moment all was hot and balmy. Then we heard it before it hit - the howl. Being located on the top of a ridge, we often get exaggerated winds. But this time, it was like no other.

There was no rain - that alone was a little unnerving for some.

It was prolonged - whipping and swirling the leaves, bending the branches like twigs, the scene from the windows was of almost violent confusion.

Then, as suddenly as it began, it was peaceful. But not without knocking out our power supply first.

Thereafter followed almost 24 hours of intermittent and weak supply of electricity.

And the reasons came - it was Ketsana.

My heart goes out to the people there.

Blowing the Horn

I was asked to be part of a team to blow the shofar for a special event. It was a wonderful finale to an intensive three session over two days prayer gathering. Christian leaders from all over Malaysia came together. They prayed. They cried. They sang. They rejoiced. And prayed again.

This was a Prayer Gathering with a difference - we really prayed!

Here's my friend's little horn. It makes a pretty cool sound and is very portable, unlike my looooong one.
Shofars and horns often sound events, celebrations, and even war....

FIRE!

We had just dropped our daughter to school and were on the way to pick some breakfast for our sons when we saw this spiraling skywards.
As we approached, we saw the fire engine which whizzed past us pulling up to a halt and the orange-clad firefighters pouring outwards and upwards to the source.

Seemingly unafraid and knowing what to do, they brought immediate calm to the spectators.
Hubby and I stopped at the lights as I snapped away. I have video footage too, but they are too big a file to upload. Otherwise you would hear and see the windows popping with this inferno.

I love music. Most sorts. Apart from the screaming noisy clamour of some styles today, I generally accept a wide range.

Occasionally I come across some gems. Like this one. Honestly, this kid is gooooood! Go check it out...

Pulled Tea

Teh means tea.
Tarik means pulled.
Hence teh tarik literally means "pulled tea".
Made out of sweetened milk and normal tea, it is a lovely local drink, great to end a meal with.
Unlike normal tea, this is made with two mugs. The tea is poured from one mug to another to cool it and to cause it to froth. See the video below for demonstration.

A very Malaysian drink, it was a surprise to hear a friend offer this in another country when we went for a conference.

Lo and behold, there was no such drink on the menu after all.

So, to console himself, he was given a straw to have a D-I-Y teh tarik....

Discovery

I can barely believe it! I thought I had lost them years ago. I remember going to the gym and asking there. I remember searching high and low and wondering who could have taken them. I was so sad for days and weeks. I told myself not to treasure them too much, but they held sentimental value. Bought by my Hubby. We didn't always have the spare cash for him to get them. No, it wasn't the amount.

Then just now, I decided to clear up a drawer. It was long overdue a gooooood clean.

As I tidied up, towards the end, I saw them. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. I have been having so much trouble with my spectacles and my contact lenses.

But no, there they were. Lying in a plastic bag half hidden by a broach.

My long lost earrings. What joy. I put them on immediately.

Should have tidied my drawer earlier huh!

Smokey Sizzle

Initially we thought something had caught fire. We could hear the ripple of murmured voices and exclamations. I turned to see a man walking with smoke billowing behind him. No wonder people commented!

He got nearer to us and then plonked the smoking dish at the next table.
To my amazement, the dish was for us!
It was Hubby's order - sizzling noodle.

Boy, did it sizzle!

Not Satisfied

Have you ever had that sort of sensation? The feeling of incomplete. Not that you yourself are incomplete. Rather, that something you started or something you are a part of has come to a conclusion. But you are not satisfied because somehow your contribution was not as you'd like, or the outcome is different from your expectations.

Yeah.

It feels like that right now.

And I am powerless to do anything about it.

Feels Good

After a layoff of more than 2 months I did it.

After talking about it but not acting on it, I finally acted.

Finally.

I went back to the gym.

It was hot because there was a powercut.

I nearly fell over when the electricity came back on and the power flickered causing the treadmill to come to a sudden standstill.

But I didnt hurt myself.

And I went instead to do the weights.

And now....

.... as I sit and type this...

Boy, I feel gooooood!
