I'm back....well sort of. Since closing Ookpik's Negativity I have been helping my brother collect, restore and maintain vintage video arcade games. You know the ones - Donkey Kong, Frogger, Centipede, Asteroids and all those quarter eaters from yesteryear! He turned part of his basement into the Tranquility Base Arcade. The arcade was so successfull it is currently being expanded! Naturally, I was assigned the task of creating the blog and web site! Hmmm....wonder why he would ask me to do that?!? So if any of you are interested in this sort of thing make sure to stop by. Even if you aren't interested, stop by anyway!

After maintaining Ookpik’s Negativity for over three years, I have decided to no longer update the blog. I will check in every now any then but new material will not be posted. I want to give heartfelt thanks to anyone who visited, read, lurked or commented! I had never heard of a blog when I created Ookpik’s Negativity but I had a great time and hope all of you did too! With that, I will ask one final time if anyone wishes to see a certain type of picture - please make a request!

While the today's housing market is in crisis, that was not always the case. Houses like the one pictured were purchased by World War II veterans for less than $5,000! Times change! The photo is from the 1940's.

Anne Gibbs informed me that she has started a new blog titled Socus Locus. Anne has added an inventive twist to the usual “old photo blog.” An obscure topic will be chosen and submissions relating to the topic will then be requested and posted for everyone's benefit. Anne believes that “in this way, a substantial collection could theoretically be pieced together from many small collections.” So search your old photo albums and send a submission to Socus Locus .

Is paranormal activity swirling around this couple and their 1939 Dodge or is it just overexposed film? You decide! The "A" sticker on the windshield indicates gas rationing and also means that this photo was taken during World War II.

This photo appears to be decades ahead of it's time! It looks like a 1970's album cover despite the fact that it was probably taken in the 1940's. Rock on!

Missed Shot

For better or worse, with the advent of digital photography, photos like this no longer exist. They would be promptly deleted or never printed. The photographer managed to miss the cars, airplanes and people but did manage to take a great shot of the passenger door from a 1950 Buick!

Ken-L Ration

This photo reminds me of what I think was a Ken-L Ration dog food commercial. The jingle was something like "My dog’s better than your dog! My dog’s better than yours! My dog’s better ‘cuz he eats Ken-L-Ration!" Does anyone else remember this?

Does anyone know where this is or was? The teepees appear to be small motel rooms. The photo is from the 1960's.

Two Bridges And A Loading Dock

Does anyone know the location of the above photos? The photos come from a strip of three negatives. The freighters indicate that the photos were most likely taken near a city with access to the Great Lakes. If anyone can identify the bridges or provide any information about the photos, it would be greatly appreciated. The negatives are from the 1940's.

Thanks to MikeM for identifying the above photos. All photos were taken in Toledo, Ohio. The first photo is of the Anthony Wayne Bridge. The bridge was built in 1931 and spans the Maumee River. The second photo is of the Cherry Street Bridge, which is now known as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge. The bridge, which also spans the Maumee River, was completed in 1914 at a then unheard of cost of one million dollars. Coal was delivered via rail to a large coal dumping machine. The machine then transferred the coal to ships as depicted in the photo.
