You would think that if the house was hit, we would know it, but you know..."you just never know" [famous saying in our household]<div><br /></div><div>I also got to thinking about this day of energy, and a flashback struck me....</div><div><br /></div><div>This isn't the first time I have been really really close to lighting without being physically zapped. Back in the '70's we had a station wagon <img src="http://www.stationwagon.com/gallery/pictures/1971_Plymouth_Satellite_Regent.jpg" alt="1971_Plymouth_Satellite_Regent.jpg (67424 bytes)" />the length of a submarine and dad had made a roof top carrier for it, a water tight carrier it turned out. I was 17, camping with 3 other chicks [girls] in the Sierras and of course there was a summer storm. That roof rack must have been holding a good bit of water, because while out driving in the storm [dumb huh? did I mention we were TEENS] we were hit by lighting. The car came to a stop, the engine died, and there was a few seconds of complete silence, no movement. Then one of the chicks [girls] screamed....but it was weird, I could see her mouth open to start the scream, but the sound was delayed. It was very very weird. And scary. I don't know if I ever told my parents.</div><div><br /></div><div>For years I thought it was a lonely, topless tree near the road we were passing at the time. But when we went back the next day, there weren't any scorch marks on the tree.....So I don't know for sure if it was our car that got hit, or the tree, but it sounds better in the telling to have car hit.</div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/12732687-6198139555894512769?l=catinthebatt.blogspot.com'/></div>Vicky~ stichr ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/02398784887410187456stichr1@comcast.net2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12732687.post-44443454701941799102009-07-12T11:29:00.000-07:002009-07-12T11:57:16.986-07:00Lighting Struck Twice!!!!<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/Slovsk_ob5I/AAAAAAAARC0/PMOdoSsgbPg/s1600-h/lighting+strikes.bmp"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 305px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/Slovsk_ob5I/AAAAAAAARC0/PMOdoSsgbPg/s400/lighting+strikes.bmp" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5357647149601943442" /></a>We had a storm clap it's way through our area in the last hour. Lots of lighting, which isn't a very common thing for us. More uncommon were the 2, that's right, 2 strikes that hit something near by. We don't know right now what got hit, but we could feel the pressure, the tingle, the raw power of the strikes. Dan was sitting in his chair, which is up against the window....he leaped out of it like his butt was on fire! Course I was off the sofa in a millisecond too. The second strike was within a minute of the first one. No Shit! Page [dog] is still trembling. I do some anyway, besides the odd white outs with bleach. I free-hand-cut this tree shape out of paper last week. My first test, with bleach no less, did not work. So I am trying this. <a href="http://www.jacquardproducts.com/products/dyes/aciddye/"> The dye is this stuff</a> because vinegar is about as 'acid' as I wanna trip on. With it's new dryer. The old was 'burning' white clothes, well mostly the white ones. The spots really look like someone left the iron on, on it. Anyway, Dan decided we needed a new one, as we were going to <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">Lowe's</span> anyway, let's take a look.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SkJXDmflQHI/AAAAAAAAPjo/IMuDsYEilWk/s1600-h/P1030089.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SkJXDmflQHI/AAAAAAAAPjo/IMuDsYEilWk/s400/P1030089.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350935026653806706" /></a>So we looked, and kinda liked one of the white generic machines. Then I ducked down the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">clearance</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">aisle</span>, and look what I found....a <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Champagne</span> colored dryer with all the bells and whistles and a price reduced 600$.....SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS OFF....<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">wholey</span> shit! For some strange reason, I like the color....maybe it was the price tag that made the color so nice.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SkJXDa4fz5I/AAAAAAAAPjg/UyYL1a75aaw/s1600-h/logcabin20.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SkJXDa4fz5I/AAAAAAAAPjg/UyYL1a75aaw/s400/logcabin20.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5350935023537082258" /></a>I have finished the butterfly block for now and am working on the log cabin. In this picture is only one of my girls, though, the chick in the black apron that is hiding her big belly that is incubating HER chick!!!!! That is Ashley in the "deli" section of the store. They make sandwiches to order. Yum!<br /><div><img src="http://sz0148.ev.mail.comcast.net/service/home/~/?auth=co&id=33800&part=1.61" /></div><div>We have these small stores tucked in around the area, usually in a very old building or converted house. Do you have them in your area? Berkeley didn't have these, just a couple of large grocery stores. So I didn't grow up with the 'local store' in that way. </div><div><br /></div><div>So, Vicky, done any needlework lately? Why, yes I have. I just don't have pictures to show for it. A world map of the goat population. Jude loves 'dots' and the goat map is definitely dotty. I, on the other hand, love maps, even really odd ones like this. I am also curious, so I googled 'world map of goats' and didn't come up with much on maps & goats, just goats. But I did find this, the "First Published Map of World Happiness" yes siree, it is all there in red yellow and orange, except for a few areas in gray who didn't want to have their happiness mapped, where to visit for happy times! Tough luck Disney, you aren't singled out this time.</div><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SjlpKnhWM4I/AAAAAAAAPC0/If4dE3PqA1w/s1600-h/world_map_of_happiness_lrg.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 279px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SjlpKnhWM4I/AAAAAAAAPC0/If4dE3PqA1w/s400/world_map_of_happiness_lrg.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5348421663607632770" /></a>And here are 2 pictures I have managed to get of Hummingbirds holding still, yup, sitting around doing nothing. You need strong thread (floss?), a small 4 hole button and superglue. Thread the button crosswise, leaving 4 long tails - one from each hole. Keeping the tails free, superglue the button to the backside of the "thing" then pull the tails through your fabric and secure with knots. </span><br /><br />I think this is a fantastic idea! I have to remember this one for sure! I also need to update my glue drawer, and get some of the other choices there are for different surfaces. Super glue has not been a real winner around here, maybe we don't hold our tongues right....I know I can find a button or 2 to use, even if I have to 'borrow' one from a shirt.<div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/12732687-7770483456811384904?l=catinthebatt.blogspot.com'/></div>Vicky~ stichr ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/02398784887410187456stichr1@comcast.net0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12732687.post-48927147990563140672009-06-16T09:46:00.000-07:002009-06-16T09:47:25.289-07:00Stephanie<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SjfMjQVeOCI/AAAAAAAAO_0/cAS5XMSpaFw/s1600-h/DSC05462.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 384px; height: 257px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_s_es75BtiyU/SjfMjQVeOCI/AAAAAAAAO_0/cAS5XMSpaFw/s400/DSC05462.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347967988578269218" /></a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/12732687-4892714799056314067?l=catinthebatt.blogspot.com'/></div>Vicky~ stichr ~http://www.blogger.com/profile/02398784887410187456stichr1@comcast.net4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12732687.post-3605898310196752352009-06-16T08:27:00.000-07:002009-06-16T11:31:27.031-07:00Front Page for the Guestbook<div><i><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#006600;"><b>Update to add: Phyllis asked if this had been a surprise, and yes it was.
