The workshop will cover camera settings and composition. Anyone interested in photographing flowers is encouraged to come.

This trip is open to guests as well as members.

You may join us at 9:30 if you do not wish to attend the workshop.

Downtown Shoot

I will be shooting downtown on Thursday, March 19, and thought it would make a fun last minute field trip. Meet at the square at 5:45 so we can begin shooting by 6. I will be shooting the streets to the east of the square, then over to the top of the new parking garage. We will probably be done by 8:30 at the latest.

Rather than having a caravan from Springfield, we will meet at the Cathedral Basilica (4431 Lindell Blvd) at 12:30. (The St. Patrick's Day Parade is at noon on Saturday, also downtown, if you would rather shoot people than the church.) We will shoot downtown and the arch area until dinner at a restaurant in Laclede's Landing, followed by night shooting in the same area.

Sunday, March 15

Shoot at the zoo and possibly Forest Park (adjoining the zoo). We will probably leave St. Louis around 4:00.

The Butterfly House is an alternative in case of rain.

We do not have enough members going to get the discount rate at Drury Inn. I am checking out hotels in the downtown area and will send out information as soon as possible.

St. Louis FIeld Trip

I have contacted a member of the St. Louis Camera Club to help establish an itinerary, but we will be shooting downtown, the arch, and the zoo. We will probably eat dinner at one of the restaurants in Laclede's Landing and then shoot the arch and river at night.

I need to know the number of the members going to reserve rooms. Rates will depend on the number of people in a room, but I will keep the cost as low as possible and still be in a safe area. RSVP to Elaine, or let me know at the regular meeting on Feb. 26.

Any suggestions for locations to shoot or places to stay are welcome!

Field Trips through July

Field trips are meant to be a fun way to get to know others who share an interest in photography, to learn more about taking pictures, and are a chance to explore new subject matter and techniques. Some will be preceded by a class. Those not wishing to attend the class portion can meet up with the group for the shooting. All are welcome and encouraged to attend! And as some of you have already discovered, dining together after the shooting is a great way to conclude the trip!

There will be a class/workshop from 1-2 followed by 3 hours of actual shooting. Fundamentals of studio portraiture will be presented including, but not limited to, posing and lighting. You may join us at 2 if you do not wish to attend the class portion. A tripod or some method of stabilization is recommended. Email me if you plan to attend.

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

Meet in the parking lot at 2:30 PM

Park closes at 5

Located on ZZ between the cities of Republic and Battlefield

The club has decided to provide photographs for Wilson's Creek's 2010 calendar, and we will need to include some shots from winter. There is a fee of $5 per person or $10 per car if you do not have a membership. (I will be purchasing a membership so will be able to take in 3 or 4 people.) Check out the website for additional information about the park and for directions.

also Nathanael Greene Park (30 to 60 minute class on nature photography -composition, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, etc.-given by Kay Johnson, followed by a couple of hours to shoot the flowers. )

We will be going to Wilson's Creek several times so we can have seasonal photos for the 2010 calendar. Some will be scheduled in advance, some will be announced at the last minute to take advantage of a weather situation.

I will be scheduling a shoot at Evangel when the tulips bloom, usually between March 30 and April 15. Kay Johnson will be leading a field trip to shoot prairie flowers in May.

Hope everybody enjoyed their Thanksgiving! Black Friday has kicked off the Christmas season, and the sights and sounds of the holidays are becoming visible everywhere! We have a Christmas exhibit scheduled in 2009, so we need to be prepared by taking seasonal photos this year. I thought it would be fun to have a Christmas field trip.

Display is on Commercial Street and the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge, from dusk to midnight.
When we are done shooting, we could have a cup of hot chocolate to warm up!

New Field Trip Coordinator!

Hello! My name is Elaine Miller, and I have volunteered to be the Field Trip Coordinator for 2009, but I am going to get started a little early. I will be scheduling at least one major field trip per month, so let me know if you have any suggestions. We will go to the zoo and the Japanese Stroll Garden in the spring. A few other ideas include:

Everyone is welcome to join any field trip--from beginners to professionals. The idea is to have fun, get to know other members, and take some pictures!

Field trip Saturday, November 22:
Tim Ernst exhibit and Arkansas shoot: We’ll meet Saturday in the Southeast corner of the Wal-Mart parking lot on E. Independence (close to McDonald’s) at 9:00 in the morning. From there, we’ll drive to Arkansas, meet up with Rita in Harrison and continue on to either the gallery, or to shoot somewhere before going to the gallery. After the gallery, we’ll plan to shoot till dark and then drive home! (Email me if you plan to attend)

I will also be posting events that look like good photographic opportunities that can become a group event or be done individually, so check back often!

I just heard from Dave Strong and he has secured Tuesday July 22 as the night for us to have a photo shoot with Debbie and her parrot. We will meet at Coffee Ethic downtown (South West corner of the square) at 7 pm. We may also have some other people attend that would like to act as models for us. Bring plenty of batteries and enthusiasm, this will turn out to be a great time.

Weekly trip

For this Monday, I am planning on going to Ash Grove to shoot some downtown. There is also a park nearby that is interesting. If we have time, I have been told about a mill that may be close enough to drive to as well. We will meet at the Walmart supercenter on North Kansas Expressway and I-44. I will be at the North East corner of the parking lot at 6:15 pm and we can carpool from there. If you have any questions email me or call me at the number listed in the directory.

The weekly meetings are going to be moving from Mondays to another evening in the week. Please give me your two cents so we can set a day that will work for as many people as possible.
