One Good Drink and One Phat Beat At A Time

A night at Bricktop was definitely in order after the Husker loss to Texas, but not without first heading over to Wasabi for some healthy food to recharge a bit. Roso, Bauer and myself indulged in sushi like it was no one else's business. You must remember we had been drinking since 8:30am or at least once we left the Governor. In the Stadium we basically had peppermint schnapps and bailey's irish cream to spike our hot chocolates which we consumed plenty due to the cold and snow. We all needed something in our ribs to stick for a night ahead of wine, women and song!

The nights partying ended up having a few early casualties. It seems a Husker loss runs deep into the subconscience of natives. The only thing I have ever heard definitively was the statistic that domestic violence increases when the Huskers lose. When I first heard this I was quite disturbed but kept my mouth shut. Now that I am considered a regular I can honestly say that this is pathetic. If you are a farmer, maybe you should go out and dig another irrigation trench when the Huskers lose. If you're a grease monkey, head down to your shop and grease it up (possibly fix something). No matter what you do you can get important things accomplished using anger, because for a brief moment it gives you focus and energy. Hitting your wife is just bullshit!

But enough about that...

Bauer and Dan mackin' it up on arrival at the Top O' Bricks.

Bauer and Chief aka The Crunk Brothers would both be early victims of what I used to call the Strobe Light Syndrome.

(l-r)Partial Bauer, Chief, Kristin *facing*, Josh aka DJ Crucial, Becka Josh's lovely wife *facing*. I love the way I was able to snag the neon necklace amongst the other laser effects.

After hours can get crazy, especially after covering most of the town with group in tow looking for the dopest spot. Meeting up with Garrick once again, we soon ran into Krizz then zipped off to the secret location which I'll call The Shop.

Chillin' at the shop was pretty cool since basically its a working shop with Audio system wired in, so all we had to do was hook up the decks and a mixer and the music would continue into the wee hours. One thing I wish I had brought with me was some Red Bull. For a period of four hours the only thing I had to drink was shots of Cuervo straight from the bottle. By the end of the night I felt my throat ablaze from the day's yelling and screaming. A soft drink would have been nice, indeed. These are just some random shots of the action.

Jay Zero trying to blow smoke rings.

Russ and Jay of Four5 Productions.

Mr. Schroeder chillin' out - absorbing the tunage.

Amber, Kes and Dizz made it out to the secret location.

Hooking up the gear, cables is such shite!

Ah, Comrad about ready to drop it.

Still trying those smoke rings.

People get crunked at the dead end, hommes. And since most of the crew were going to be in the area he knew he had to whip up a bevy of good eats!

Seemingly, food was being consumed faster than Flatfoot could put a flame to it! But the variety more than made up for it.

Besides, being a nurse Wifey would have made a hell of a waitress. As soon as the goods were cooked off they went. As they were in the process of getting their certifications they thought it would be fun to scuba in the Cop's pool. All anybody could say was WTF?

They did decide to forgo strapping the oxygen tanks. And at this point, not too many people were drunk.

Sashka strapping one on!

The Working Man navigating the pool slide. LOL

As the evening winded down, Cop and Wifey were clearly exhausted, a few of us decided to head out to a club. The logical choice was the Nutty Irishman. So we made our way out. It turned out to be a pretty entertaining second half to a great day. I think being the only sober guy in the group made it more entertaining for me. Although, the band were more comparable to an idiot savant. They shows glimpses of genius with their set list but would totally murder what were otherwise enjoyable '80s songs. And no, they didn't cover A-ha. :)

Feeding Water Fowl

Preface: There hasn't been too much visually happening for me. I had brief ideas for photos but really nothing panned out. Being busy with the closing, move and upcoming trip, creatively I have been tapped. But I did find some inspiration today...

After I spent nearly two hours being consulted and then being poked with about four needles (necessary to gain my Visa for my trip to Tanzania) at the travel clinic, I hooked up with Monkey (one of my travel buddies) and Ninu (his main squeeze) to relax in the lovely afternoon, eat lunch and feed some local water fowl.

Monkey and Ninu. Monkey is pretty good at juggling twenty pounds of cracked corn and popping shots with his cam phone!

Initially, we attracted a small group. These birds are not starving in the real sense but they sure were scoffing the cracked corn!

It's funny how birds that normally stay to their own groupings by species all join in for the feeding frenzy. The barking they do to each other is hilarious at times. Reminds me of the martians from Mars Attacks. Yak, yak-yak. YAK!

It's Don Pom Top straight mackin'! That is until he sees what we are spreading around his peops. So the Don gets curious.

Then he proceeds to get some. The Don won't stand for no Juckin' and Jivin' unless he is directly part of it. He loves him some cracked corn, baby!

Once a larger group took notice to the feeding the gig was up. And we were swarmed by swans, geese, canadian geese, mallards and domestics. If it weren't for the trumpeting geese the whole malee would have sounded like a Chinese auction!

BTW, all these shots were taken with my new Cybershot DSC-T7! Still getting used to it, but it will mainly serve as my travel camera for Tanzania. I can already see why it has gotten so many good reviews.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY WEEKEND!!!

Sois sage! But if you are a bike junkie like myself, then its "uber"-cool! Whoever said Strong Island doesn't have good downhill sections needs to give me a call and arrange to tag along next time I go hucking with Monkey. These are shots from the Bald Hill preserve, the second tallest point (highest "natural" point) on the Island. Cool stuff, so enjoy!

Hello down there! This is a view down the northwest face of Bald hill from about midway down the Hill itself. I am perched about 90-100 ft. above Monkey who just flew down one of three tracks leading down the face.

Here is another view. What I like about this section is that even the decent is not that tall, it is very steep and goes very quickly. Not much room for mucking around - just find your line and hold on.

This is the steeper and more curvy of the three tracks. This track is cool because there is a slight lip midway down that (if you are going fast enough) you can grab some decent air off of. Looking up makes it seem less steep, huh? :)

This track is a straight and shallower track. Would be awesome to nail a ramp down at bottom.

Monkey was thinking the same thing! So here he is starting to engineer a make shift launch ramp.

The log and branch reinforcements were proving a bit dodgy. What we really needed were a few shovels to pour dirt between them, but of course we had none handy. We did find some lovely deck pieces people who have houses along the forest must have dumped back there.

As we both tried to man=handle a rather large fallen tree, Monkey gave it a good yank and bashed me in the ankle. Not seriously hurt but sore nontheless, we settled on a smaller but more stable launch ramp to ride.

This ramp would be great for practicing the art of landing airs at speed, a bit different from dirt jumping. The point is to maintain speed and straight line.

Monkey puts the finishing touches on the lip to the launch ramp. Let the games begin!

These shots didn't come out too bad but I didn't have a tripod and I was using a point and shoot Nikon Coolpix 5400. Can't wait until I get my Canon 20D (aw yeah)!

After a few runs on the ramp Monkey decided to hike his way back up the hill face and do some downhill runs. I popped these shots while trying not to slide down the hill face.

All in all it was a great afternoon of riding sans the little ankle bashing. Next time Monkey will get some shots of me ripping down the hill for sure! :)

Monkey's 30th B-Day Bonus Footage!

I have limited explanation for these shots.
