Another Tortured Dating Post

Usually on Sundays , I lay in the bed and watch romantic comedies and episodes of Platinum Weddings OnDemand. This past Sunday, I couldnt find any good movie to watch and while I tried to watch other well received 3, 4, 5 star movies, I ended up stopping them. This should have been a good thing considering all the movies usually do is get me all worked up and emotional. Suffering myself with mushy , sappy throw up so I'll end up with a heart full of hope including " the one" and some kind of cliched happy ending complete with a candy buffet and those Cirque De Soleil style ribbon dancers that hang from the ceiling. Then maybe I won't end up bitter. Then I can sink into my delusion and not delete every number in my phone because maybe just one of them might be "him". ( Are you miserable yet? ) In the meantime, my body needs maintenance and I haven't been impressed by anyone offering. ( Whassup, my name is Valentino. Nice to meet you. ) I did meet this man in the Atlantic Station Parking Garage with some very huge arms who couldn't believe I wasn't 19 y/o . ( A gift and a curse.) So he hasn't called me, and I'm assuming that was the reason or he " wasn't that into me." I'm more upset I didn't get to frolick on those arms. I also had a very nice date a few weeks ago with a very nice man . A very nice familiar man. You know, the ones that belong to that extensive brotherhood which practically runs Atlanta. In every familiar case that I've come across someone that there's seems to be something there that I couldn't put my thumb on. It ends up being that. Except well, this guy was in the other brotherhood. Isn't it always either/ or? Hmmmm... Well I found myself comfortably fuschia while on the date with him and it took everything not to jump on his lap. I even thought as far as inviting him on a trip with me and a few friends a few months from now....considering... Oh. In case we talk about him again his name is : BourgieEyes. Say hi, he does read the blog.

That is the silliest damn song.

Well, I was gonna do a review of "Hancock" ( hehe..cock), but there really isn't much I want to say about. I enjoyed it, I recommend it. It wasn't your typical superhero action flick. I kinda wished they'd cast someone else besides Charlize Theron, maybe a black actress, mmmm but then again would it have done the same numbers at the box office. Probably not.

Anyhow, so I've decided to participate completely in my own dating experience. I noticed that I haven't been completely engaged in any of the dates I'd been on in recent months. I'm usually wishing it was over so Valentino could handle his business and the date could go home or whatever, if not that then I'm sitting there trying to figure out dude's flaws or really just not feeling him because he's said something thats turned me off so I'm secretly texting friends. I have realized that if I ever want to find that Will to my Jada ( dont judge me) or the Will to my...umm Will, maybe I shouldn't check out of the date so soon. I've also decided that every guy is atleast worth a date *correction: I don't mean that literally. I mean that any guy I'm interested in and is nice enough to invite me out is worth a try.* and I shouldn't be so quick to turn those down. I've praised myself for giving people the benefit of the doubt in the past so I need to continue even if I can usually smell bullshit counties away. I'm tryin y'all!!!! Valentino been sittin at the door with his bags packed for a few weeks now...poor chile.

So I had to make Valentino go sit facing the corner. I'm sorry, I know you were waiting on some of his misadventures, but I had to do it. See, the reason I allowed him to visit for the summer was because I had become dissappointed and exhausted from all the dating prospects that just didn't sprout into anything. So, I was just gonna let him roam free and enjoy this candy buffet we call Atlanta, Georgia. However, the truth of the matter is that I don't want that. I want one man, not all men. That one that passes beyond physical attraction, and mental enjoyment. That one that has what my good friend calls the "it" factor. Valentino would be content with a cute face, a hot body , a big dick, and a nice car. I want more so Valentino can't come out to play for a minute. ( Although, if nothing special happens before Labor Day Weekend, Valentino has permission to come out...lol.) Hmmm...I haven't gotten that personal in a while huh?

This week/weekend marks my third year here in Atlanta. I know right? Doesn't seem like its been that long. It seems like just yesterday I'd landed at Hartsfield Jackson full of excitement and extreme fear. I really had no expectations for Atlanta, I just wanted to live. I wanted to be social, to pay rent, to date, to learn, and to experience life. I have enjoyed Atlanta pleasurably, even during the rocky times. My social life has been something , you all know that, you've read about most of it on here. I think its funny that I somewhat manage to stay low key but also familiar and slightly " in ". People often ask me how I like it here and I always reply " I love It". I do. Atlanta has been everything I've wanted it to be. I hear alot of negative notions about Atlanta which annoy me a little bit. This city is whatever you make it out to be. There are options and choices. I don't think it's fair for people to generalize the city based upon the experiences had because of the choices they made. Nevertheless, I didn't want to say much. I wish you all a safe , happy, and fun 4th of July weekend.

My Kinda Review: Sex And The City - The Movie

Yeah so I changed my mind...

What I liked:

The clothes. Of course the clothes were damn fabulous! From the opening scene I just started salivating. Call it shallow but hell, Carrie even stated it from the jump. Women move to NYC to find LABELS and Love.
The Bond of Friendship. I am so happy that the movie showed these women's friendship the way it did. The moments during Carrie's catastrophy when they each came to her side. When the movie showed Samantha feeding Carrie, that was something.
New York City. Often referred to as the fifth woman, I loved how the city was filmed in each of the four seasons.
I loved how the movie kinda spoofed itself in a way. There were moments that were very over-the-top and I thought that was done purposely. It was known how much of a phenomenon the movie would be so of course it should play on itself. We all knew there had to be a wedding and more importantly a wedding dress, so there you were with four dresses right in the beginning...Carrie's cliche catch phrases, " Hello, I live here."....Samantha's sexual affairs.

What I Didn't Like:

That ugly Louis Vuitton bag Carrie bought for Jennifer Hudson's Louise. Just too much and ugly.
Smith Jerrod ( Jason Lewis). Didn't he look kinda weird? Like something was going on with his face. Some plastic surgery or something. Weird.
That full frontal shot. That was too much for me at ten in the morning. I understood the sex, but goodness.
The clothes they picked for the gays. Come on now.

Overall:

I really did enjoy the movie. As a fan of the series, I took for what it was and to me it was great. I could've been a bit more invested in the movie than some others. I did hear about folks going dressed up and sipping out of Martini glasses which maybe could taken away from really getting into the movie for those individuals. The movie was fun, it was emotional, it was as honest as it could've been for the sake of the story. It was sweet.

The Bandage was a small fashionable lounge that hosted industry events, small parties, and live open mic situations. The man was peach colored, the type of skin that would suggest freckles. He had an almost bald, almost military haircut with some natural red growing from his chin. He was tall, lean and lanky. He had an edge. I was attracted to him. Somewhat.
“My brothers I want you to meet Jasper St.John.”, Chris hosted. As we all acknowledged the man with versions of What’s up, Chris managed to get close enough to me to whisper, This one has been asking about you all night Cameron my brother. We were too old to be whispering, but this lounge wasn’t for all boys, if you get me.
“I’m going to get a drink. Anyone want?" Michael hmphed.
“I’ll go with you,” grinned Brandon.
“I haven’t had a drink all night,” laughed Christopher running behind them.
“Well I guess it’s obvious,” Jasper blushed as he inched closer. He had on expensive dark denim and trendy Nikes. By the time my friends had come back from the bar I’d seen Jasper’s forearm tattoos, learned that he was from the East Coast, and a music video director. He'd learned that the Hermes scarf detail in the back pocket of my old Rogan jeans was something I took from a Lupe Fiasco article. As I pulled out my Blackberry to receive his phone number I noticed a text message saying You look so sexy tonight signed Mr. Mista. I looked around the room until I connected with some very familiar eyes…

We were seated on Brandon’s deck the next afternoon enjoying an omelet/mimosa brunch recounting the details of the night before.
“Kira’s showcase yielded to an outrageous praise from the label execs. My voicemail was nearly screaming when I checked this morning,” Chris detailed.
“That’s great man” Brandon offered.

He soothed me in his rented luxury car and drove us to his rented luxury room where he took me on the chaise. My friends did know about Mr.Mista but I was reluctant to tell them since they believed I’d stopped seeing him. I’d stopped seeing him because he’d chosen to live his public life with the woman he was photographed with in the pages of the latest Essence. Damn those morals.

Once the other two left, me and Brandon walked the man-made lake in his neighborhood.
“Cam, if I tell you something, you won’t judge me right?”
“Nah, you’re my boy”
“I’ve been having random sex with men off the internet.”
“Brandon.”
“Yeah”

You all may have seen this guy before. This is the Indian gay prince that was on Oprah sometime ago. There's a very interesting story about him in Out magazine. Imagine, a gay prince. ( I'm sure he isn't the first.)
So I've read Terrance Dean's Hiding in Hip Hop. I thought the story of the book was nice, somewhat encouraging, a little inspirational maybe for those that struggle with their sexuality. Many weeks ago me and two very fantastic friends were in a very crowded IHOP. We began discussing one of their new beaus. Answering the blogger Life's questions: 1. I love that Atlanta is a blossoming city full of any and everything to do at any time. I like the opportunities here, especially for the black community. I do not like how unevolved some of our own community acts at times or behaves. " fintin" as in " about to" is not a word. I also could do without this crazy pollen. 2. Well, Booboored no longer lives in Atlanta. He has moved on to better opportunities elsewhere. Things did not exactly blossom into a romantic fairy tale for us while he was here. However, he will always be a good friend of mine and I will always care for him deeply. I often joke to my friends, Carrie does get Mr. Big at the end, doesn't she?
So I guess 50 shots at an unarmed black man is justifiable? Ridiculous.
Has Janet Jackson ever had any endorsements? Pepsi? Coca-Cola? Covergirl? Revlon? Versace? Chevy?? Baby Phat??? I don't remember ever seeing her in any big advertisements.
I started back to school with an online program three weeks ago. Wish me luck. Don't ask me nothing about it though. lol.

My Kinda Review: El Cantante

What I liked:

The music. If you didn't know, I grew up in Hartford , CT which is highly populated with those from Puerto Rico. So, the music of Hector Lavoe or any other salsa great is not that unfamiliar to me. Watching the movie just brought back memories of being at the Puerto Rican Day Festival in Pope Park drinking real pina colada , eating papos. Hector Lavoe's sunglasses. The sexiest over the top aviators I've ever seen anybody pull off other than the huge non-aviators that Karl Lagerfeld wears.
The locations. You could not watch a scene without noticing the gorgeous backdrop of the puertorican islands or the amazing cityscape of New York City at night.

What I didn't like:

There was actually nothing I didn't like about this movie. It's at Target for $10. It's a good movie seriously. Go get it.

When I was in highschool I read this book called Push by Sapphire (In fact,I think I still have in a box around here somewhere.) The book is about a girl that gets pregnant by her father, abused by her mother, and gives birth to a baby with down syndrome whom she nicknames "Mongo". There's alot more to the book... Anyhow, there has been a movie filmed starring Paula Patton, Monique and even Sherri Shepherd ( y'all remember when she was on The View with those cornrows?)
Speaking of highschool, about a month ago I received a message on Myspace about my ten year class reunion. Damn already????? I'm not sure I want to go. Do I have anything noteworthy to talk about? No kids. No spouse. Should I go? I'm kinda interested in seeing how people turned out. Hmmmm. Did you go to yours? Would you go to yours?
When it comes down to it, isn't all we really want in a partner just someone that is consistent, treats us nice, sends us a text message or a call at a random moment, sits and watches House Hunters with us? (Well maybe not that, but you know?) Not too much and not too little. A simple romance maybe? I'm just sayin...
