The objections to conversion that you discuss sound a lot like the objections to recovery posed by alcoholics and addicts. Certainly, similar thoughts went through my head as I weighed the prospects of sobriety against what had been my status quo.

As I work to maintain my sobriety, I think that the 12 steps could serve as a model of a practical guide to repentance and conversion. Since the need for repentance is certainly more subtle and maybe less extensive than an addict's need to change, establishing a convincing call to change is still a substantial obstacle..

I want to be clear, though, that I'm not pushing AA here. Rather, the approach to getting answwers to the questions and objections that you pose might be informed by a 12-steps kind of approach.

Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1244292116722597763.post-81100063697401628942008-10-03T20:37:00.000-06:002008-10-03T20:37:00.000-06:00I actually did a homily eight years ago in which I...I actually did a homily eight years ago in which I portrayed the campaign manager of Jesus. The homily was my end of a phone conversation with the candidate whose campaign I feared was going to tank because he was honest, or something like that. The local secular paper published it, I believe!Fr.
