As I was chopping a pile of celery for an antipasto salad that was always part of our opening course at Thanksgiving, my vision was of my dad, who died five years ago. Chopping the celary for this salad was always his task and I could see him sitting at the dining room table in my parent's home carefully and precisely sliding the knife through the celery spears (his pieces were much more uniform than my own) and talking or singing to whatever he was listening to.
I thought of the loss, as I often do (he died way too young of pancreatic cancer), made more sad by the fact that just Wednesday we buried my cousin, a 46-year old New York City firefighter who lost his life early Sunday morning. The grief of that loss still hangs heavy on me as I write this.
Yet, the solace comes from the konwledge that my dad and now my cousin rest comfortably in the arms of God. Resurrection, as you beautifully express, is the deepest truth. And I give thanks for both of their lives and for the unending love of our father in heaven.Susan Stabilehttp://susanjoan.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1244292116722597763.post-7287622223524905902008-11-27T23:49:00.000-07:002008-11-27T23:49:00.000-07:00Lovely post Sherry.
