Quick hit thought on vacationing:

Vacation should be a sport, with the competition categories being time trials, frugality, lusciousness, souvenirs and pictures. I think I'd do well in time trials, especially at airports. It takes a certain breed to win at frugality and lusciousness, and after having travelled with both, I'd rather not compete in that category. Souvenirs would be the category I'd bitch about in the locker room at the end of the competition.

Future traveling will be less about where you want to go, and more about when. Also, you can upgrade to first class, and then you have options like dinner, and parallel universes. Ever wonder what it would be like to have Bon Jovi raise you? Get a first class ticket and pick a tendril on the time map.

Or would they call it courses? Or tributaries? Or branches? Too much. You can't make money in the parallel universe tourism business if you're going to hem and haw over terminology.

A UFO lands in Russia,

and religious leaders across America revolt. How could God allow there to be aliens, and how could He let them land in Russia and not his own country? America is being punished, they say. Churches are crammed.

Nutjobs in California are scratching their heads, not sure why all the summoning ceremonies they performed on top of Mount Shasta didn’t seem to alert the aliens that they had, there on the summit, created the perfect landing place for the interplanetary explorers.

Sci-fi convention goers begin to take bets on whether the aliens are Romulans or Klingons.

The US government has released a statement that should Russia not cooperate and allow the world access to this historic event, they would attack. Because they had already asked nicely, via secret phoneline, circumventing both NATO and the UN.

Farmers ask if the aliens are grain or meat eaters, and if this could become another outlet for their subsidized crops.

Finally, the Russians address the situation. According to the statement they release, all the hullabaloo is for nothing. It was just a weather balloon. Pay no attention to the little green man in the silver suit standing next to Putin.
