12/7 Feeling Sluggish?

The Stamping 411 Sketch Challenge went up this past weekend and I have been looking forward to trying it out. Of course, I am thrilled with the results . . . as I always am when I play a 411 challenge!

I used the snail image from the bugs and kisses set and to classy him up a bit, I kissed the shell with the medallion stamp from Charming.
.
I put together a little tutorial to show you how to "kiss" just a specific part of your image.

The first thing I did was stamp my snail image with Sage Shadow. I used a stamp-a-ma-jig as I stamped and this is most important. Do not move the stamp-a-ma-jig after you have your image stamped! It is lined up perfectly for when you stamp your next image directly over the top of your first image. The second step is to use a marker and color in just the portion of the image that you want "kissed"... in this case I used a Chocolate Chip marker to color in the shell.

Step Three is to "kiss" the clean dry stamp image of your choice over the top of your markered image. You can kiss straight on as I did or for another look, you can "kiss & twist."

This is what your image will look like once you've kissed it. Then, all you have to do is stamp it directly over the top of your initial image and if you haven't moved the Stamp-a-ma-jig . . . your image will line up perfectly as you can see below.

New 411 Challenge - COLOR!

Stamping 411 has decided try out a color challenge! This is the first week . . . so if you have a chance to play, be sure to upload your card and leave your link! It would be nice to make this challenge just a popular as their awesome sketch challenges!

I am using the stamp set called, "Charming", and though it will not be pictured in the upcoming Occasions Mini catalog, you will still be able to order it . . . that's exciting - especially because all but one of the charms will be available to purchase in early January. I can hardly wait. I don't know that actually "making" jewelry is something I'm very interested in, but I will be all over making the seasonal inserts that will fit into the charms and that's where this beautiful set will come in so handy.

Can you see where I used the Big Shot on this card? It's the skinny Not Quite Navy oval layer behind the sentiment which is punched out with the Wide Oval Punch. I recently purchased the Ovals Original Die. The die has three ovals on it and the smallest oval makes a lovely border to our Wide Oval Punch.

A Stamping to Share Tip: When your card features a knot on one of our wider ribbons, double up your Stampin' Dimensionals to give your main image panel the umph it needs to rise up to the occasion! It's easy to layer dimensionals . . . just place the first layer where you want them, peel off the stickies and then place another layer of dimensionals right over the top of the first for double height. I've even done triple height! It's a great effect!

12/2 Wanted - Something Different!

Whew . . . I've been busy! But not so busy that I didn't have time to do this week's sketch challenge at Stamping 411! You might notice that I uploaded the sketch picture upside down - that was on purpose! Sometimes I like to flip sketches around - makes it more "me!"

I wanted to use a stamp set that had an image that I could use as my circle accent and that's when I found "Wanted." It was at the bottom of the pile . . . but not because I don't want it! lol! Just so happens that Christmas sets burying all my regular sets.

Black and White cards are so striking and when Stampin'Up introduced Night & Day Designer Paper in the Holiday Mini Catalog I was totally excited about making Black & White cards. But . . . didn't quite get around to it. Can you relate?

This card features vellum card stock . . . I didn't want to hide the awesome designer paper behind my horse image. It also features a clear button backed with black card stock. The button is threaded with a skinny strip of Whisper White paper. The whole circle accent is popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

The sentiment that I put on the inside of my card comes from the set called Best Wishes & More. I like the words: laughter joy happiness bliss delight . . . who doesn't want that?

I'm just finding all kinds of things as I clean up around here that I've forgotten to post to my blog!! I made these bookmarks way back in July for my Hostess Appreciation Night. I think I was so busy in July, that I decided I would post things after convention in August. Well, give me a week and I've forgotten it!! lol!

11/26 Looks Like Fresca!

First off . . . . Happy Thanksgiving! I am soon to be off enjoying the day . . . and I hope you are, too! This is a card I made for the sketch challenge at Stamping 411. I've had a very busy week with two Christmas Dozen classes on Monday and Tuesday, the usual kid stuff, and then the day before Thanksgiving . . . we somehow managed to work in laundry, grocery shopping, baking, two dentist appointments and a trip to the theatre to see New Moon! Then . . . stamping my challenge card! Why not . . . I was up doing laundry anyway!

The whole while I worked on this card I kept thinking about the old soft drink called Fresca. The colors remind me so much of the Lemon-Lime taste. My mom and I used to share a Fresca whenever we golfed together. Hot sunny day at the course, and a Fresca was very refreshing indeed! Do they even make Fresca anymore? I haven't seen it in ages!

Well, enough reminiscing. My card is quite straight forward and for once follows the sketch almost exactly. I love the collage of flowers made with the Petal Pizzazz stamp set. I love the whimsical look to the birthday sentiment as it flows right on cue into the circle of flowers. The Crushed Curry ribbon and the Circle Fire Rhinestone Brad seemed to be just the right touch. Enjoy this light, refreshing card and may your day be blessed with family and friends.

11/25 Snowflake Moon

This is one of the cards that I swapped with at Convention. Can't believe I haven't uploaded it to my blog yet! I actually had completely forgotten about it until one of my demo friends e-mailed me to tell me it was on Stamper's Showcase on the Stampin'Up Demonstrator Web Site this past week. Cool!

So, here it is! I think it was the very first card I made using some of this year's In Colors. The vellum circle was made with the Circle Scissors Plus. The snowflake is our lovely Brushed Silver card stock and it is created with the Big Shot Die using the Snowflake #2 die.

The deer and sentiment are stamped with Versa Mark and then embossed with Silver Embossing powder. A very easy and straight forward card. Thank you for taking a peek at it!

11/22 Stampin' Down Memory Lane!

Well . . . how do you like this color combination? Dusty Durango, Rich Razzleberry and Mellow Moss. Pretty rad if I say so myself - but it seems to work with this card. I let my image be my guide when it came to picking out the colors and I was surprised at how well it turned out.

I was stamping for fun today and pulled out a stamp set I've never used - Long Time Friend. How is that possible? Oh, it's possible. You buy it with good intentions but then somehow inspiration isn't striking and off it goes to the back of the shelf. Thank goodness for a couple of relaxing hours on Sunday afternoons, I can reacquaint myself with some of my long-neglected friends (oops, I mean stamp sets lol!)

I stamped the Floral background with Rich Razzleberry onto Mellow Moss card stock. The main image panel is watercolor paper and the garden scene is stamped with Basic Black ink and then water colored with my Aqua Painter using ink from the lid of my ink pads. The green stems are just drawn in with the fine tip of a Handsome Hunter marker. I rubbed Creamy Caramel over the top of my Linen background stamp, laid it face up on my desk, put my image panel over the top of it and walked my fingers around just the areas I wanted the Linen to be picked up . . . mostly the outside edges leaving the center brighter. I sponged Mellow Moss ink all around the edge of my image panel. LOVE how that turned out.

Then, it was just a matter of layering and accenting to complete the card. One of the accents are the round circles I put on my ribbon. Those circles are made with an ordinary hole punch - 1/4" in diameter and adhered with a mini glue dot. The image panel is raised up on Stampin' Dimensionals.

11/21 Holly Jolly Christmas Punch

The Level Two Hostess set called Christmas Punch is so much fun to play with. This was one of my swap cards at Convention this past year and I just realized today that I never put it up on my blog!

I used traditional Christmas colors with this card: Real Red and Glorious Green. My deer from the stamp set called Winter Post was stamped in Chocolate chip. I used a sentiment from Many Merry Messages for the inside panel of my card.

Isn't it neat that you can use the Boho Blossoms Punch to punch out the trio of snowflakes that come with the Christmas Punch set? I just LOVE that! Yes, I know that my snowflakes are green . . . but it's all in the name of creativity, right? Hey . . . I had a color theme going on . . . lol!

11/20 Easy Christmas Present!

This is such a great, easy card to make. It's a gift card holder with a "gift" image on the card! This particular card uses the SU Level Two Hostess set called Christmas Punch, but this card design offers so much flexibility. This card can be adapted to use almost any Christmas stamp set. I've made quite a few of these gift cards this year since I love to give (and receive!) gift cards and this present card is just so much fun to make. But it gets even better when you open it up!! I am going to show you two different styles for the inside of this card. One opens up to a very simple pocket gift card holder as you can see below.

The second option is to use Stampin'Up's Pop-Up Look Here Bigz XL die with your Big Shot machine and make a "wow" presentation for your gift card holder! Totally fun and everyone I've shown this to absolutely LOVES it!

11/18/9 Snowberry Card

Every time we go to our cabin in WI, we drive by a road called Snowberry Lane. I just love the sound of that name and decided to see if I could come up with a card depicting Snowberries. What are Snowberries you ask? I have no idea!! But, I still like the name!

I pulled out Pocket Silhouettes and I found a stamp that could pass for a Snowberry Flower. I inked it up with Stampin'Up markers using Real Red and Handsome Hunter. I stamped the flower five times across the bottom of my card. But alas, even with my stamp-a-ma-jig, I was not successful in lining them up in a straight line. So, to fix that uneven look, I decided to do a couple of ribbon layers. And, you might note . . . the ONLY layers on this card!! (I'm so proud of myself as I find minimal layers hard to do!)

To adhere the ribbon, I used my SNAIL adhesive right onto of the ribbon and then just stuck it down onto my card. Did the same thing again with the second ribbon and then took my very sharp scissors and snipped the edges even with my card. But, I still didn't actually have any "berries" on my card. Then, since there seemed to be just a bit too much white space going on around my flowers, I decided to dot some berries in the fine tip end of my Real Red marker. Well, of course I over did it! How can you stop when you are making dots? How do you really know when you've made the last dot? LOL! Anyway, I got some interesting flowers out of it, but I'm not sure that I achieved a "berry" look. Oh well . . . I still like the card.

11/17 Snowflake Santa

This is my card for the Stamping 411 Weekly Sketch Challenge. I just LOVE how it turned out. You can't actually tell in the picture, but in real life, you can see that all of the white paper on this card is actually Stampin' Up's very elegant Shimmery White card stock.

I started by using my Big Shot Machine with the Snowflake #2 die. Later this month, I am doing a Big Shot Basics and Beyond class and the featured die will be this Snowflake #2 die. I always make a few extra items for display that are not actually part of the class. This sketch was perfect for bringing a small stamp to life on a big card.

The Santa is stamped with Real Red ink onto the Shimmery White and punched out with the Scallop Square punch. It is layered with Stampin' Dimensionals onto two 1.5" squares of Basic Gray and Basic Black.

The sentiment uses one of my all time favorite word sets called Teeny Tiny Wishes. I love how I can stamp these sentiments onto any paper scrap and punch them out with my word window punch for perfect placement on my card. The sentiment finds its home on a scalloped black strip layered behind a strip of Shimmery White accented with our Red Gingham Ribbon. The bow is tied separately and adhered to the ribbon strip with a mini glue dot.

11/16 Cardinal Christmas

This card features the Stampin'Up set called A Cardinal Christmas. The first thing I did was cut out an oval with the Sizzix Scallop Oval Die by running it through my Big Shot Machine. Then I set the scalloped part aside and stamped the cardinal onto the oval using Basic Black ink. I love how easy it is to color this cardinal . . . in this case I just brushed on some red ink with my Aqua-Painter that I picked up from the lid of my Real Red stamp pad. I swirled a little Pumpkin Pie into my red for the beak and the the feet and the birdie was done. A little Close to Cocoa and Garden Green for the branch and there you have it . . . a beautifully colored image all ready for your Christmas card.

The base of my card is from Real Red card stock. I ran a 4"x4" piece of Basic Gray card stock through my Big Shot Machine using the Petals-a-Plenty Textured Impressions Folder. I layered some ribbon and secured it to the back of my texturized panel. I added a ribbon flag to my image panel and secured it with a staple. Just seemed to work with the overall flow of this card if you know what I mean. The sentiment is stamped with Basic Black onto a piece of scrap white paper and punched out with the Modern Label punch. Then I used the coordinating die from the Magnetic Movers and Shapers Punch Windows set to get the Real Red background layer for my punched sentiment.

My sentiment is actually glued to my image panel and then the whole piece is popped up with dimensionals. At that point, I sat back and looked at my card and decided it just didn't have enough "umph." So, I drummed my fingers, I fitzed and fiddled and finally noticed the scallop edge to my oval that I had laying off to the side on my desk. Hmmm . . . I wonder . . . and YES - a portion of the scallop oval was just what this card needed to take it to the next level! I just glued it onto my card underneath my image and sentiment panel. Just like magic . . . that small bit of scallop made this card complete.

11/14 Bermuda Pines

I ordered an extra Textured Impressions Folder in Petals-A-Plenty so that I could cut out the center part of it and use it like a frame as pictured above. I used the Scallop Oval Frame Die to create the oval which I traced onto the Impressions Folder. Then I "painstakingly" cut it out with my Hobby Blade. This is NOT a quick process. First, I had to work my way through the top of the folder and then another trace line and the same process all over again on the bottom half of the folder - at least a 1/2 hour process. But, now it is done and I'll have it forever!

I'm excited about offering this card at my Christmas Dozen coming up in December. Once your folder has been modified, it is a very quick and easy card to make. I used Shimmery White paper for an extra touch of elegance and sparkle.

11/13 Peace & Joy

I finally had a chance to play with the Holiday Windows Movers and Shapers featured in the Holiday Mini Catalog. I was most attracted to this set of dies because of the bird image and I had an idea in mind that I wanted to try - and this was it! My card actually turned out just as I envisioned it! (How rare is that?!)

I used my Big Shot Machine, the Movers & Shapers Curly Label Die, the Bird from Holiday Windows Movers & Shapers and the olive branch from the Little Leaves Sizzlit. All was going perfectly fine. I added the ribbon, also from the Holiday Mini catalog from the Mistletoe Ribbon Originals. It looked great . . . but I was missing a sentiment. I hadn't put away the Scenic Season stamp set from the last card I made so I was wondering if there was some way I could use the sentiment from that set on this card and then the light bulb went off! I grabbed my Chocolate Chip marker, inked up just the words "peace and joy", stamped them on a scrap of Kraft, punched it out with the Word Window Punch and my sentiment looked perfect tied to the ribbon with a bit of Linen Thread. The full sentiment is then stamped on the inside panel of the card. Love, love, love it!

11/12 A Golden Greeting

This truly is a "golden" greeting but it's hard to tell by the picture! The base of this card is made with Stampin' Up's elegant brushed gold card stock. I embossed the trees and greeting with gold embossing powder for a very quick and easy card. The inside of this card features more gold embossing and the tone on tone snowflake is another feature adding to the elegance of this card.

11/11 Flat Out Fun!

Yup . . . it's flat! Not one little Stampin' Dimensional can be found on this card . . . and it's still fun!! Every once in a while I like to challenge myself to make a flat card. I have a number of clients who prefer them because they don't go for mailing bulky cards. Now, I admit there are a number of "layers" on this card and truly, as I created and layered it was all I could do to hold myself back because I love to make those layers "pop" with a dimensional or two or three!

This card gets its layout inspiration from Stamping 411. It turned out to be super quick and easy to put together because I used Die Cut Blooms for my main images. My stamped sentiment comes from the set called A Little Birthday Cheer.

11/8 Stampin' La-dee-da Down Memory Lane

La-dee-da . . . La-dee-da . . . La-dee-da . . . I'm stampin' down memory lane on a Sunday afternoon. The stamp set I picked to play with today is called, "La-dee-da". It debuted way back in a Summer 2004 Mini Catalog. The patterned paper is called "Tickles." It's cute, but I will tell you . . . I like our nicely weighted two-sided designer series paper that we offer today a lot more because it is easier to work with with and so much more versatile.

I added some ribbon tabs for whimsy behind my image panel and did a little faux stitching down the sides of my Close to Cocoa panel. All of the coloring is down with a blender pen using ink from the lids of my ink pads.

11/7 Merry Santa

I saw this cute Santa made with punches on several blogs and decided to make one, too. It's really quite easy using a variety of punches. Dawn Olchefske has a nice tutorial if you would like to take a look at it HERE. Stampin'Up no longer sells a 1/4" circle punch, but if you have a regular hole punch that you get at your local office supply store, it will work just as well for making Santa's nose and hat pom pom. This will be one of the cards that my customers will make at the December Christmas Dozen.

You may have noticed the lovely scalloped rectangle that frames my Santa. This is made by using the Stampin'Up Scallop Square Die with the Big Shot machine. First I made a Scallop Square, then I figured out how big I wanted my rectangle to be. I lined up the edges of my scallop square die-cut with the edges of the die, except, I moved it up a bit to make it shorter. I ran it through my Big Shot machine. Then I did the same thing again to make it narrower and ta-da . . . I have a rectangular-shaped die!

11/5 Necessity or Laziness?

I've heard that the mother of invention is "Necessity," but in my case, whenever I come up with something new it seems like it's because of "Laziness!" I am prepping for a class and to save my customers time and to reduce the wait time at the Big Shot Machine, I decided to precut some Modern Label Shapes with the Magnetic Movers & Shapers. This particular shape is just a tad bigger than the Modern Label Punch so it makes a background layer to your punched shape. The thing is . . . you are "supposed" to use the SU Movers & Shapers Curly Label Bigz XL Die to hold the magnetic shaper in place. That means a lot of cranking on the ol' Big Shot handle because the Bigz XL Dies are L-O-N-G and I only needed such a small tiny piece of paper out it.

I decided to experiment and LOOK!! I found out that when you put the following sandwich into the Big Shot Machine, you get a perfect punch with you Movers & Shapers Die without using the Curly Label Bigx XL Die! Your bottom layer needs to be the Standard Texturz Impressions Pad. Then, it's the Standard Cutting Pad, followed by your Magnetic Mover & Shaper shape of choice, your card stock, and lastly another Standard Cutting Pad. Run it through the Big Shot and perfecto!

You have just cut your Magnetic Mover & Shaper without the Bigx XL Die!! This is GREAT when you have a lot of these babies to cut as I did today. Hope you are as happy to learn about this as I am to share it! Have a great day and thanks so much for stopping by my blog today.

11/4 Christmas Rose

In December, I am offering my customers a Technique Trio - three different techniques to explore in one night. This will be one of the techniques . . . Bleached Edges. Isn't it just the prettiest card? I also love the fact that you can use a "non-Christmas" stamp set and create such a beautiful Christmas card with it.

I was inspired by the sketch challenge at Stamping 411. It's a priority of mine to participate every week. The sketches are an awesome way for me to prepare pro-actively for my upcoming workshops and class events.

So, how did I do it? Not so hard . . . all I did was dip my empty Aqua Painter into a small dish of bleach and paint it along the lines of the rose. I used Ruby Red paper and stamped my rose with Versa Mark ink and embossed it with Black Stampin' Emboss Powder. I think this technique gives my rose a wintry look. To make it REALLY pop on this card I popped it up on three layers of dimensionals. (YES, you can stack dimensinals!!) The Merry Christmas is popped up on one layer of dimensionals. One reason I wanted the rose higher on this card is because the knot in my ribbon is tall due to the thickness of the ribbon. If the rose wasn't popped up, I think it would look a little too far off compared to the knot. (All of this makes more sense if you were looking at the card in real life.)

The base of the card is Garden Green card stock. I stamped the snowflake from Patterned Pines all over with Versa Mark ink. Versa Mark ink is wonderful for creating tone on tone images. I remember as a new customer purchasing Versa Mark ink on one of my first orders because I loved the watermarked look on my card backgrounds. Plus, if you don't yet own Garden Green ink, the Versa Mark mimics it when it is stamped on Garden Green card stock.

11/2 Bag, Tag and Matching Card

I saw this idea by Kim Evens last year, but it took until this year to incorporate it into one of my own classes! I loved the idea of taking an inexpensive gift bag and turning it into something special! Just run your Sizzix Snowflake #2 Die through your Big Shot Machine inserted right inside your bag! Works like a charm! Then, I took the snowflake that came out of the bag and turned that into a matching card . . . but more about that later!

To make the snowflake area on this bag really shine, I inserted a panel of Kraft paper the same size as the bag front. I did not adhere the snowflake to this panel. I like the more flowing look of the snowflake when it is not glued down - - - the shadows give it depth.

Above, you can see a tag that I made to put on the bag. I used Stampin' Up's Table Setting Die that you can purchase from the Stampin' Up Holiday Mini Catalog. I love that you can use this piece as a tag in addition to it being a napkin ring. The snowflake mimics the shape of the larger snowflake die cut into the bag. This snowflake is a part of a Sizzlit 4-Pack.

Above is a close up of the card that goes with the bag. I love silver, Burgundy and kraft together - earthy . . . yet elegant!! My customers who come to my Big Shot Basics & Beyond Class that I am having at the end of the month will get to make this bag/card duo.
