I spend what sometimes seems like too much of my free time working on controlling ("whacking") non-native, invasive plants. This is a quasi photo diary of what I see, including some of the native plants and critters, too. Also I toss in an occasional, verbose rant, and off-topic other stuff from my trips.Invasives Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11115202033478199178noreply@blogger.comBlogger1127125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12219803.post-34861995332243377622009-07-14T22:12:00.000-04:002009-07-14T22:13:09.329-04:00Happy Bastille Day!<div style='text-align:center;margin:0px auto 10px;'><a href='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/Sl07MxfODqI/AAAAAAAAG3Y/L_jw3G-9Yb0/s1600-h/P1160405.JPG'><img src='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/Sl07MxfODqI/AAAAAAAAG3Y/L_jw3G-9Yb0/s320/P1160405.JPG' border='0' alt='' /></a>&nbsp;</div><br />In honor of Bastille Day and the Tree Liberation Front, I present this picture of free trees that largely have been liberated from the killing grip of invasive vines.<div style='clear:both; text-align:CENTER'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/12219803-3486199533224337762?l=plantwhacker.blogspot.com'/></div>Invasives Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11115202033478199178noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12219803.post-58560582637353513862009-07-12T22:55:00.001-04:002009-07-13T19:28:14.569-04:00May Day Wisteria<div style='text-align:center;margin:0px auto 10px;'><a href='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/SlqiKNHeD5I/AAAAAAAAG0s/hlf7ZrOcOZg/s1600-h/P1150447.JPG'><img src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/SlqiKNHeD5I/AAAAAAAAG0s/hlf7ZrOcOZg/s320/P1150447.JPG' border='0' alt='' /></a>&nbsp;</div><br />As a rewind, here is what the Wisteria in the general area was looking like on May Day, 5/1/09. Such lovely lavender flowers! Now it's all been whacked for the sake of the native plants.<br /><br />In addition to those "lovely" flowers, this also shows the spiraling strangulation grip of Wisteria vines and a mix of living and previously whacked vines. Plus the usual carpet of English Ivy. Also seen is some living, native Mountain Laurel that isn't quite dead, yet.<div style='clear:both; text-align:CENTER'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/12219803-5856058263735351386?l=plantwhacker.blogspot.com'/></div>Invasives Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11115202033478199178noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12219803.post-48271833363933834092009-07-12T21:50:00.000-04:002009-07-12T21:50:42.912-04:00Another View of Ivy-Whacking Work to Do!<div style='text-align:center;margin:0px auto 10px;'><a href='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/SlqS8ZYnD7I/AAAAAAAAG0I/DIyiyhuTOuQ/s1600-h/P1160447.JPG'><img src='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/SlqS8ZYnD7I/AAAAAAAAG0I/DIyiyhuTOuQ/s320/P1160447.JPG' border='0' alt='' /></a>&nbsp;</div><div style='clear:both; text-align:CENTER'><a href='http://picasa.google.com/blogger/' target='ext'><img src='http://photos1.blogger.com/pbp.gif' alt='Posted by Picasa' style='border: 0px none ; padding: 0px; background: transparent none repeat scroll 0% 50%; -moz-background-clip: initial; -moz-background-origin: initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: initial;' align='middle' border='0' /></a></div><div class="blogger-post-footer"><img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/12219803-4827183336393383409?l=plantwhacker.blogspot.com'/></div>Invasives Manhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11115202033478199178noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12219803.post-65285350236407552112009-07-12T21:49:00.000-04:002009-07-12T21:49:23.830-04:00"Third Sunday" at LBNC<div style='text-align:center;margin:0px auto 10px;'><a href='http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/SlqSomurqYI/AAAAAAAAG0A/ai-nkvY4CEE/s1600-h/P1160438.JPG'><img src='http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Am94WX6rQAM/SlqSomurqYI/AAAAAAAAG0A/ai-nkvY4CEE/s320/P1160438.JPG' border='0' alt='' /></a>&nbsp;</div><br />The "third Sunday" team that worked here June 21 under Matt's directiopn while I was up in Maine did great work.
