Just a heads-up to everyone that the sol cafe won't be having any official gatherings during the Easter Weekend. Given the size of our group and a number of Easter long weekend absences, plus the fact that the coffee shop where we usually meet will be closed, we've opted to do "distributed churching" with our collective extended family. In other words, be with your family, however it is you define it, drop in on another of the many churches and gatherings that are part of "the body", or gather as you will to consider the meaning of this, the defining event of our faith.

And wherever you are, we hope you'll take a moment to say a little prayer for our little church, and join the larger church in shared reading from the Revised Common Lectionary. The verses for this weekend are:

Service Service on Sunday March 29, 2009

On Sunday, March 29, starting at 4 pm, the sol cafe will be gathering for what we call a "service service" -- our church taking our weekly gathering time and using it for worship through action. We try to do this once a month, or as the need arises, helping out with whomever happens to need help. We've sorted food donations at the Salvation Army depot, cooked dinner at Ronald McDonald House, even sorted Lego at the World of Science.

This service service will bring us back to the Stollery Children's Hospital to do a clean up of "The Beach," a wonderful place where kids can go to play away from their room while at the hospital for treatment. Please wear work clothes and bring scrubbers if you have some. We'll be meeting at the Beach at 4 ish.

We will be going to see Shirley preform in the chorus of Anne of Green Gables at 7:30 pm on Sunday February 22 at Festival Place in Sherwood Park. Super Service Sunday @ A Special Time & Place

On Sunday, February 1st at 12:00 pm, the sol cafe will be holding its monthly(ish) service service where our regular Sunday gathering and worship takes the form of rolling up our sleeves and doing some good. This month we will be meeting at the downtown Salvation Army depot (9618 101A Ave NW) to sort food and do whatever other work needs doing.

If you can join us, please meet at the depot at noon and, unlike our usual "Mexico time" approach, you'll need to be relatively prompt because the facility will need to be locked once we're inside. Drop us a note if you think you'll need a lift and we'll make sure to watch out for you.
