I met a daddybear/chaser couple at the Lone Star this weekend. They are in town for a few days, visiting from NY.

Typically, whenever I see a couple like that, I will receive glances from the chaser. The kind that says "if my boyfriend weren't here, I would love to jump your bones." I'm not saying this out of a lack of modesty. It's just that chasers tend to go for specific types, and when I see one with a daddybear who has similar features as mine, that's the reaction I usually get.

But not this time. I watched for the "wandering eyes" glance and it never came. This guy clearly only had eyes for his boyfriend. I thought it was very sweet. And, down deep, I was envious, and wished I had someone in my life who felt the same way about me.

So, all the hoo-hah of the Michael Jackson memorial service is over. I didn't really spend much time watching it. I tuned in about the time Brooke Shields was doing her thing. I stayed around for a few minutes and watched Martin Luther King III give his speech. Then, I was stunned when hateful, bigoted, homophobe Bernice King stepped up to speak. At that point, I shut it off.

If you're not familiar with hateful, bigoted, homophobe, Bernice King, she is the youngest daughter of Martin Luther King, Jr. She would have been about 4 or 5 when King was assassinated. Yet, she feels she knows the heart of King, and that he would NEVER have approved of comparing the gay rights movement to the black civil rights struggle, not to mention marriage equality.

Never mind that King's wife and his eldest son have come out in favor of gay rights. Never mind that King's closest advisers have come out in favor of gay rights, and believe that King, if alive today, would never tolerate the discrimination gays feel in this country. Little Bernice King, barely older than a toddler when her father died, knows all. She has organized and led anti-gay marches, organized opposition to any legislation that would provide some form of equality for gay Americans, and she has been very vocal in her opposition to marriage equality. She has been quoted as saying that she knows deep within herself that her father did not march and did not take a bullet for same-sex marriage.

Well, Bernice, let me throw a couple of quotes your way, from people who would know the heart of your father a hell of a lot better than you:

"Gay and lesbian have families, and their families should have legal protections, whether through marriage or civil unions. A constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages is a form of gay-bashing, and would do nothing to protect traditional marriages." -- Coretta Scott King.

"I don't recall any experience that would put Dr. King in the category of excluding people." -- the Rev. Joseph Lowery, co-founder of the Christian Leadership Conference with Dr. King, when asked what King's stance would be on gay rights.

"Martin Luther King was one of the most tolerant and understanding and generous persons I have ever known, and I never heard him make a judgemental statement about any one's sexuality, except his own." -- Former UN Ambassador Andrew Young and top aide to King.

That last quote from Young is my favorite. I wish all the other hateful, bigoted black ministers would take that to heart.

I hate turbulence.

Whenever I fly, and the plane hits a rough patch, I begin to imagine impossible scenarios like the wings breaking off and the plane plummeting to the ground.

I always find comfort by reminding myself that these flying soda cans are built to withstand anything. My fears are completely unfounded. The plane could never break apart in turbulence.

After reading the stories of the Air France flight that went down over the Atlantic, I'm not so sure.

California Attorney General Jerry Brown's office filed a brief in support of the lawsuit to overturn Prop H8. This makes me feel a hell of a lot better about the lawsuit. I had my doubts, because of some of the parties involved. I was sure there was some kind of hidden hater agenda. But, if Jerry Brown is on board, it's all good to me.

I love this guy. He believes equal means equal. No exceptions.

I like this ad bashing eharmony for not allowing the gayz. It's just another sign that most people love us. We just have to filter out all the hate that emanates from "those people."

Actually, I really think the haters love us too. Pat Robertson was quoted as saying the gayz were the greatest thing to ever happen to him. Every time he mentions us on tv the money starts rolling in from the whack jobs.

There are 228 million voting age Americans.

Estimates are that 2-5% of all Americans are gay.

That means there are between 5 and 11 million gay Americans of voting age.

When I was going to college in Ann Arbor, there was this guy I was really hot for. He knew I was hot for him, but he didn't seem to be particularly interested in me. Then I discovered that I had something he was interested in: wheels.

One night I was hanging out at the Flame and he was there. It was getting late, and he came up to me and suggested we drive into Detroit and hit the TNT baths together. He overtly indicated we could have a good time together. So, against my better judgment, I hauled his ass the 40 miles into Detroit.

After we got to the TNT, he disappeared. He was apparently fucking every guy there. Just not me. So I got pissed, and left his pretty ass there to find his own way home. I'm sure he suckered some other guy into taking him back to Ann Arbor, eventually.

I'm kind of getting the same feeling about Obama today.

Not sure what's going on here, but the guys are hot....

Sometimes the stench of hypocrisy is so bad, it makes the bile rise up into your mouth. One such moment occurred when I read a story in the SF Chronicle about the spat between certain Catholic groups and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

It all started when the Vatican issued a decree prohibiting Catholic adoption agencies from placing children with same-sex couples. The decree stated that placing children with gay couples "did violence to the children." The San Francisco Board of Supervisors issued a non-binding resolution critical of that decree, stating it contained language that was "hateful and discriminatory." It also asked the local arch-bishop to ignore the decree. In response, Catholic Charities of San Francisco stopped placing children for adoption with any families.

Enter the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights (what an oxymoron that is). They filed a lawsuit against the board, claiming their actions violated separation of church and state (another bile-producing moment). The lawsuit was thrown out by the Ninth Circuit Court.

But it doesn't end there. The lawyers for the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights have now publicly compared the Board of Supervisors to the Nazis. In a statement, they said "It is not a stretch to compare the San Francisco board's actions to that of the Nazi Germany policy of Gleichschaltung, vilifying Jews as an auxiliary to and laying the groundwork for more repressive policies, including the final solution of extermination."

Here's the punchline: in comparing the board to the Nazis, the group was critical of what, it called, "forced conformity of doctrine and elimination of opposition."

OK you fucking catholic hypocrites. First of all, you have no right to talk about separation of church and state, considering your considerable support for Prop H8. Not to mention your outright war against marriage equality in New England.

Second, if anyone is vilifying anyone, it's the catholic church. You are constantly dehumanizing gay people, just like the Nazis did to the Jews. And, by the way, considering the catholic church's quiet acquiescence to the Nazis, you have no room to talk.

Apparently you've never read the quote from Jesus about getting the log out of your own eye before you try to get the speck out of your neighbor's eye.

I've recently noticed that the haters are really bristling over being called out for what they are.

You see the comments over and over. "I have nothing against gay people. I just believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman." As a child of the 60's, it reminds me of the days when the light was being shown on racism. It became so politically incorrect, that the racists had to resort to famous lines like "I have nothing against black people, but....", or the even better "Some of my best friends are black."

I have noticed the haters are using both phrases, a lot, when the light shines on their hatred. When the haters are ashamed of their hatred, victory can't be far behind.

So the governor is making the rounds, and telling everyone that he thinks Prop H8 will eventually be overturned, either by the courts or by the ballot. He got a round of applause when he said that last night on Leno.

Gee, maybe if you would have signed one of the TWO marriage equality bills the legislature sent you, we wouldn't be in this mess now.

Or, perhaps if you had actually campaigned against Prop H8 instead of giving our cause lip service, it never would have passed in the first place. Same goes for you Obama.

Congratulations California Supreme Court! In one fell swoop you have allowed bigotry and hatred to win in California, and you have made yourselves irrelevant.

Was this not the same Supreme Court who one year ago said that marriage for same-sex couples was a fundamental right? One that could not be subject to the ballot box? Were those not your exact words?

What happened? Are you so afraid of recall that you bowed to the "will of the people?" By doing so, you have abdicated your constitutional authority. No one has to listen to you. We'll just vote on it.

At this very moment, there is a group circulating a petition to get a proposition on the ballot which would take away automatic citizenship from children born on American soil to non-citizens (translate: Mexicans). This is in clear violation of the US Constitution which guarantees that any child born on US soil is automatically a US citizen. They'll get the signatures. And it will probably pass, because illegal immigrants aren't very popular in California right now. How will you rule then?

Even though it is unconstitutional, I'll sign the damn petition if it comes my way. And, I'll vote for the proposition. Because if my rights can be taken away so easily, I'm all for taking away everyone else's rights too.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has accepted a challenge to that state's constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman.

This should be interesting, and I'm betting that they will rule that the amendment is unconstitutional for the same reasons as neighboring Iowa's Supreme Court ruled against the ban.

I spent 6 years in Milwaukee. Wisconsin has its share of rednecks, like any state. And it is also heavily Catholic. But, Wisconsin is also a pretty progressive state. It's had the only Socialist governor in American history. It was the first state to pass a law protecting gays from discrimination, back in the early 1970's, which still stands today. And it has one of the few openly gay congresspersons, Tammy Baldwin from Madison.

The small drip of marriage equality seems to be turning into more of a torrent. I hope the this influences the California Supreme Court on their Prop H8 decision.

Tuesday morning at 11 Eastern time, Donald Trump will have a press conference to announce his decision on the fate of Carrie Prejean, Miss California.

It's funny how, when this first thing started, a bunch of people, including me, were jumping on Perez Hilton for asking such a stupid question. Had Carrie shut the fuck up, perhaps she would have had the sympathy vote. Poor little girl, being harassed because of her beliefs.

But no, she had to pick up the flag and run with it. She's de facto spokesperson for that NOM organization. She's appeared on the 700 Club, and today she appeared on that pig Lou Dobson's show, where she announced the entire affair was Satan tempting her.

I hope this bitch loses her crown. And it could have all been avoided by a simple response to Hilton's question:

"This is a divisive issue. As Miss California, I represent ALL the diverse people of California. As such, I don't feel this is the appropriate forum to discuss my personal feelings on this matter."

Within five minutes after finishing up my previous post, I read this on Joe My God.

14 repugs have signed on to Rep. Paul Broun's (GA) house resolution encouraging the president to designate 2010 as "the year of the Bible."

This is the same wackjob who has proposed a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and (I love this) a law which would withhold federal funds from any school where the students recited the Pledge of Allegiance in any language other than English.

Nuff said....

After watching Valkyrie on pay per view, I was doing a little research on the Internets about Germans who resisted the Nazis. I was doing some reading on the church's role in German resistance (virtually none), and when I read this sentence, my blood ran cold:

"Hitler explicitly appealed to Christianity on a regular basis and this was part of why he was popular. Not every Christian supported the Nazis, of course, but he was most popular with conservative Christians seeking a restoration of traditional values."

What does that sound like? It's funny how conservative evangelical "christians" always seem to be at the heart of evil in this world. The Crusades, The Inquisition, slavery, etc. The Nazis couldn't have maintained power had the so-called christians spoken out against their actions.

Like all religions, Christianity has been corrupted by a bunch of self-serving hateful people. They have turned the message of love, brotherhood, and reconciliation into an "us against them" theology.

Ultimately, the joke's on them. While they wallow in their perceived political power, it never occurs to them that they are just being used. The repugs used the church to maintain power, much like the Nazis did, without the slightest bit of respect for the church.

There's a new documentary, which started yesterday in San Francisco, called Outrage. The purpose of the documentary is to out closeted fags in positions of political power, who use that power to damage the rest of us. I can't wait to see it.

As a middle-aged gay man, I remember the time when rule #1 was that we never out one of our own. Coming out of the closet was supposed to be a personal decision, and would never be forced on anyone. That's why Rock Hudson was able to keep his image as a lady killer while he was secretly playing around with all his boy toys in Hollywood.

That was then. This is now. I say if someone in a position of power is actively using that power to damage the rest of us, fuck them. Bring it on. Let's rip those closet doors off.

From all the stories I've heard, if all the secretly gay repugs in Washington were outed, there wouldn't be many left.

I'm Queer For Joe The Plumber

So everyone is up in arms because Joe the (not) Plumber referred to us as "queers." He also said he wouldn't let queers anywhere near his children.

Is anyone surprised that he would say something like this? Frankly I couldn't care less if he calls me a "queer" as long as he doesn't mind my reference to him as a "white trash hillbilly piece of pig shit."

And, by the way Joe, at least one of your kids will grow up to be a "queer." You have made sure that will happen. Karma baby.

Joe is yet another one who has overstayed his 15 minutes. He needs to go.
