we'd been having a string of really nice days here in SF...until today. i live in one of the foggier neighborhoods, but still.

the view from my street:

it's funny because i got lost in the ghetto earlier today, on the complete opposite side of the city, and it was nice and sunny over there. after that, i had a shoot in golden gate park where it looked similar to my neighborhood (that's also one of the foggiest neighborhoods in SF). the poor girl said it was 90 degrees where she was from (on the other side of the bay, towards the south), and was FREEZING because she was wearing a tube top.

you've gotta love SF microclimates...

anyways. i realized that i've barely posted any of my LOs lately, so here are two from the midmonth garden which went up today...

the theme this month was fashion...this particular LO was inspired by this shirt:

which i would probably never buy because i think the colors are kind of fugly, but i did like the text and used that as inspiration.

oops, so i haven't blogged in 2 weeks. so here's a quick catch-up post of what i've been up to since i last blogged...

- before i left so-cal, i insisted that we have a bonfire at the beach. as much as i love it up north, the beaches just aren't the same - too cold, and bonfires aren't so common. so we headed out to huntington beach/bolsa chica, which was actually kind of cold and windy (go figure. that, plus i decided wearing shorts at night at the beach was a great idea. go, me!), but we got a nice little fire going.

i also got to chase around mario and jen around with a camera around sunset time...this was probably my favorite of the bunch:

- right before i left to go back to norcal, i got to see the boys (remember our weekly photo outings back in the day? yeah). it had been a while since i hung out with them, let alone seen them, so it was fun. and half of us always had a camera in front of our fact. i guess some things never change?

- came back to san francisco for a day, then headed back out to the cabin for the long weekend. we mostly just chilled on the lake, but we did go out to the south grove of big trees briefly (it was 95 degrees and we didn't feel like hiking 3 miles).

must go back again, when it's cooler.

- saw fireworks while we were up there!

- back again in san francisco, i hung out at the MOMA on free museum day. it was same 'ol (a lot of new stuff doesn't open til the end of this month or the beginning of next month), but i did check out the rooftop garden, where there was a blue bottle coffee stand (i'm kinda obsessed with this stuff now. mmmm)!

- took a ~~walk~~ trek through buena vista park, which is a little gem of a park nestled in the haight. it's in a hilly area, and the park itself is also very hilly and has a lot of stairs, but once you get to the top and see these views, the climb is totally worth it:

sometimes, i really, really love this place. this was one of them.

- apparently, they have these film nights in the park every week at parks in and around the city. yesterday, they showed woody allen's "manhattan" in union square and a couple of us went. it was a cool experience, especially when we were waiting for the movie to start and saw this gorgeous sunset:

so. that's what i've been up to the last two weeks. how about you?

also. i'm making another (short) trip down to so-cal in september. someone asked me if i can do a shoot for them, so i was wondering if anyone else would be interested? if you are, shoot me an e-mail (there's a link in the sidebar to your right >>>).

the beauty is in what isn't said

we went back to milk. we couldn't resist. plus, we had to introduce it to theo.

this time, we ordered actually food. everything we ordered was pretty awesome!

amy and i split a chicken dish. the mashed potatoes, which are under the chicken, were delicious and had bacon in them! yummm.

theo had a turkey BLTC (BLT + cheddar). best sandwich ever.

more desserts (and a ton of them, again):

tried a coffee toffee ice cream sandwich. mmm...

milkies, aka bonbons (the name "milkies" is adorable, in my opinion)

banana creme tart. SO good.

i was kinda obsessed with this cute bag. actually, i was just obsessed with the stamping on it. i want some milk stamps! lol. i love their logo.

we then headed to my sweet cupcake. amy had sent me an e-mail a few weeks ago, saying that she went to a cute little cupcake shop, and they had strawberry shortcake cupcakes - cut in half with whipped cream in the middle. she even sent me a picture, and i was sold. unfortunately, they were out of them, but the shop was adorable. it had this sign -

and i loved this mirror, especially the "you're sweet" thing under it. and you can see the decor in the background.

we took the cupcakes to a nearby park, and had a little picnic.

theo brought her doggies, and we had fun playing with them...

we hung out...

and i climbed a tree. sort of.

today, i met up with linda and chased around her family with a camera...

baby oli is just too adorable for words!

a recap of my day today:

1) a couple weeks ago, amy started talking about milk. when i saw the pictures of all the desserts, i immediately knew i HAD to come here.

we split a soup, which was in a ginormous bowl.

we both had a red velvet popper (mini cupcakes).

(i like how it matches my nail polish, lol)

then, we split an ice cream sandwich.

we saw these strawberry shortcake bars in the display and decided we HAD to get one...so we split one of those, also.

i got one of these blue velvet cakes to go (their specialty, i believe).

2) later today, i met up with another amy and judy, for ramen.

3) we grabbed some frozen yogurt, and sat on these kiddie chairs.

4) we went to the dollar store for some prop for pictures. judy ended up finding these ridiculous grills, and we spent a good half hour posing like this...

we may be ridiculous, but this is why i love my friends.

i came home to so-cal on sunday and will be here for the next week. it's not as hot as i expected, so except for the fact that my allergies have been flaring up and making me miserable, i'm a pretty happy camper. it's been fun catching up with people - got to have lunch with my friend kate (whom i haven't seen in 2 years!) this afternoon - and looking forward to some more festivities in the coming week :)

anyways. these photos are from the berkeley rose garden...the boy and i had lunch (me) and coffee (him) there the other day. lots of pretty flowers...some of them don't look like your typical roses!

also finally got to go to blue bottle coffee, which they say has the best organic coffee in san francisco. i have to say that i agree! you bet i'll be going there more often!

it's always better when we're together

first of all - thanks for all the crockpot recipes! i can't wait to try them out :)

secondly (apparently, the term "second of all" is incorrect, LOL) - pictures from my birthday week! (warning: picture heavy post ahead!)

we played an insane amount of scrabble. and with more than 2 players. i still lost, although i did come awfully close.

there's a canoe at the house that we never, ever went on when it's just me and the boy. but theo and linh wanted to go on it. and then a lot of us followed. canoeing = harder than it looks, but kinda fun. it's cool sitting out in the lake on a boat.

linh's facial expressions were priceless. and check out those raindrops! (yes, it decided to rain on the first day everyone was there. i was NOT happy, because i was looking forward to swimming. HMPH).

elaine steered me into tree branches. TWICE.

a few people went hiking in big trees (in the rain!). the rest of us went wine tasting at stevenot in murphys (the weather was actually slightly better over there). the boy and i have gone wine tasting in murphys a few times, and i have to say that stevenot is probably my favorite winery over there. it's also located on some really pretty,

near the parking lot sits this old, abandoned truck. i've noticed it a couple of times, and thought it would be a cool prop for photos. to not pose with it would've been a sin, so i made everyone stand there for 20 minutes posing for photos.

i'm sure he's just THRILLED with me right there. but seriously, i looooooove the sunflare here.

these girls drove allll the way up from LA (a 7 hour drive!), and arrived at 3 a.m. the previous night. as the boy said, "they must really like you." <3

then, the boy found this little area which was marked "for wine club members only." but we ignored said sign and took pictures there, anyway.

walked around the grounds some more - such cool rock formations! and then we also took a little walk around downtown murphys, and had some ice cream.

we all came back to the cabin, hung out, had dinner, and played a bunch of board games that night. my cranium team lost :( hmph. the next morning, some people cooked us breakfast -

had that with whipped cream and strawberries. YUM!

the LA group left early so they could wander around san francisco for awhile, and the hiking group went out to lake alpine for a few hours. when they came back, we took the canoe out again...had dinner + some beers and watched the lakers game (btw, BOO HISS magic), and they left. we got lonely. lol. the next day, the boy and i also headed out to lake alpine.

(okay, seriously. snow in june. IN CALIFORNIA. we tried to do the trail that the others did, however, this was the entrance. we decided that we couldn't deal with the snow, so we turned back and walked around the lake instead.)

on our last day, we went back to murphys and had a picnic on the ironstone vineyard grounds. also very pretty. we've been going on picnics there the last couple of times we've gone to the cabin, and it's become one of our favorite things do up there.

the week went by soooooo quickly. i really did have a great birthday, though. i really am lucky to be surrounded by such great company.

you bet all these pictures are going to be on a scrapbook page soon! :)

this was my dinner tonight:

chicken tortilla soup. i got a crockpot for my birthday, so i broke it in tonight. the recipe is here (i've had it saved in my bookmarks forEVER!). i halved it and modified it a tiny bit, adding a beans and corn, and a tad more salsa. it was delish, and easy peasy. i'm happy i have a bunch of leftovers!

so now that i have a crockpot...anyone have any good recipes to share? pretty please? :)

we've had the most perfect weather here the last few days. gorgeous blue, sunny skies, perfect temperatures.

i had a shoot out in golden gate park today. i decided to go a few hours early to take advantage of this weather...i brought along a blanket and my ipod, and planned to read for a bit, but just ended up snapping photos and napping instead :)

it's days like these when i feel sooooo lucky to be living here.

it's been sunny here the last couple of days. shocking!

my sense of "good weather" sure has changed in the 4.5 months or so that i've lived up here. lol.

anyways. i turned 24 today. i'm in denial. especially that i hit 25 next year, which means i'll be in my mid-20s? when did that happen?

we are off to the cabin tonight. hoping for good weather, good friends, good food, and good times.

a couple of scrappy projects before i go...

new product focus. if you haven't noticed, i'm kinda in love with prima's rebellious papers. i used the lyrics from plain white t's "1234" here. i can't decide if i love that song or hate it. lol

the theme this month was "minis." of course, i went with mini photos.

i'm moving tomorrow, so i'm up to the wahzoo in packing and cleaning (ugh. remind me that 6-week sublets are NOT a good idea), but wanted to stop in to share some scrappy stuff.

okay, so finals are over, and so is all the memorial day craziness. which brings us to my birthday, which is in 8 days. which also means, i get greedy :) heh.

concert tickets/ticketmaster giftcards. i really want to see death cab for cutie and/or wilco this summer...

a planner. something simple, unfussy, with lots of room to write in. i lost mine somewhere along the way from so-cal to norcal. i like the ones from paperchase (borders).

this gloss. i love it so, and i'm just about out.

a crockpot. i might actually be inspired to *gasp* cook once in awhile. then my mother (and the boy too, actually) can stop nagging me about eating healthier and blah blah blah...

a summery purse or just a roomy bag that's not tooooo huge. these are just some examples. this weekend:

-4 a.m. scrapping session
- candlelight, pasta, pesto pizza, and awesome white wine
- planning for my b-day weekend
- posing as a high schooler prepping for her SATs. (see my twitter >>) yeah, let's - just say that if i ever were to take them again, i would NOT do well.
- 90 degree days (in SAN FRANCISCO. i thought i got rid of this weather when i left so-cal?)
- a couple of hours hanging out with jenni, and her cute family:

country roads, take me home

we snuck off to the cabin for a little bit last weekend. the weather was perfect (although not quite warm enough to play in the lake), we ate too much (mmmm...homemade lasagna. and strawberry shortcakes!), watched a bunch of harry potter movies (getting sooo excited for the new one to come out!), hiked around the lake, and had a lovely time.

i always really enjoy these cabin trips...the first time the idea was proposed, i remember thinking "you want me to go to the boonies for five whole days?! are you sure i'm not going to get bored?" lol. we are in the middle of planning another trip for my birthday weekend (which is in...23 days? yikes), and are inviting several friends to come along. should be good times :)

there's just something kinda nice being away from busy city life and being in the middle of nowhere (well. sort of), isn't there?

(those two pictures were actually taken on the drive home from a previous trip)

i can tell that we are gonna be friends.

it's pouring.

happy national scrapbooking day! lots of fun challenges going on at two peas over the weekend. i'm hosting a 5 product challenge.

my challenge is to use:

it's my blog-versary :) i've been blogging for 4 years now! yikes.

so...i've been trying to build a little photography portfolio, and i had a shoot today. this is rakhee. she was super fun. it was SUPER WINDY today, but we just went with it.

a couple of favorites from the day. i've still got 394320483204 pictures to go through.

anyways. if you (or someone you know) are in the bay area, and wouldn't mind being a guinea pig for me taking pictures of you, shoot me an e-mail.

one of my roomies bought a tv for the living room today. our apartment is starting to have all of the necessities now, lol.

and i am hoping for the wind to go away. why, oh why, is it back?!

once upon a time, the boy had this chair. it originally came from the cabin, and was in the living room of the apartment he shared with linda. when he moved back home, the chair ended up in his TV room.

my friends had a liking for this chair. elaine slept in it one night. amy came up to visit with me once and was amused by it. she always asked me about the chair afterwards.

a little while ago, the chair went into storage.

i barely have any furniture, and my room seemed really bare. so today, i inherited the chair:

amy called it my "throne." haha. i love this thing. it's the one happy-colored thing in my room right now!

throughout the month of april, the prima and tattered angels design teams have collaborated to create projects using both product lines. today was my day, and i created the above layout and card. the TA glimmer mist was super fun to work with - although my hands are still stained blue and pink. lol. but it was fun playing with the stuff, spraying paper and flowers and getting my hands dirty. you can visit both blogs for more ideas and for a fun giveaway on each!

we've been having super nice weather up here...i even got to wear shorts yesterday! the boy and i went out to tilden on saturday for a little bbq/picnic...the light was gorgeous, so i made him sit still for pictures. he was NOT happy. lol. but i like this one -

i took a hike around the presidio yesterday - from the golden gate bridge to baker bridge. i took a little side trail which led to this semi-secluded, really rocky, gorgeous beach. plus, the entire trail was pretty lovely, and it was SO clear that the bridge looked better than usual. i am kicking myself because i deliberately left my camera at home. THIS is probably why i should never be without my camera. gotta do this again!

i moved in here today:

my roommate search at my old place completely failed, so i was stuck having to find a new place. let's just say, apartment-hunting is completely awesome...NOT!

one little story/rant from my search:

there's this apartment complex right next to school. it's really not that awesome and rent is really expensive, but it's right next to school, so a bunch of students live there. i'd been noticing on craigslist that a lot of people are renting out their living rooms in these apartments, because rent is quite high here for some reason (seriously, you can get a decent room a little further from campus for the same price as SHARING a room here. in a more interesting part of the city). i waslooking for a cheap place, and i was desperate to find a place ASAP, so i figure it can't hurt to e-mail these people. besides, it would hopefully be a short-term lease, so i can get out of it if i really, really hate it. people are about to start moving out soon, anyway.

so i was supposed to check out this living room on a tuesday. the guy living in the apartment told me to call him when i'm close. i did when i was about 10 minutes away. no answer. i call again when i'm about a block away. a guy who sounds like he just woke up answers the phone. i'm thinking this is sort of strange, but it's about noon, and some college students DO sleep in until noon, so i'm like whatever. anyways. i tell said guy, "i'm caroline and i'm here to see the room," to which he replies "we rented it out this morning, sorry." um, what? THANKS FOR TELLING ME YOU *#&(@!&#(*#TARD. STRIKE ONE. this was the first appointment i had, and it was NOT a good start to my search. i call the boy, rant, and head back home. i'm especially busy that day and have 5928058230482304 things to do.

two days later i find an e-mail from him saying that the room is open again, and since he feels bad, if i'm a good fit for it, he'll give it to me for the very cheap price of $470. i think it can't hurt, so i say i can come check it out tomorrow (friday). he tells me to show up around 2. my wifi is down for some reason, and i try to go to two libraries to use theirs so i can check my e-mail, but all the libraries apparently open late on fridays. GRR. i call him on my way there to ask him for his address again, since i sort of remember where to go but don't remember what the exact address was. i tell him i'll be there in 5 minutes. i get to his building. i call him to tell him i'm here. no answer. call again. no answer again. this happens 2 more times. you have GOT to be kidding me. it's f-ing freezing and WINDY outside and i'm about to get blown away. STRIKE TWO. i'm pretty irritated at this point. finally, he picks up. again, he sounds like he just woke up, and sounds really out of it and kinda seems aloof, so the mental image in my head is of this white guy who's also a stoner. not my ideal roommate.

anyways. the guy tells me it's 8238. i'm thinking that's his apartment number. some guy happened to be walking out of the building and opens the door for me (you need a security code to get in), and i head up to the eighth floor. there is no 8238 - all the doors have letters on them. i'm really confused. i get back on the elevator to go back to the lobby. luckily, a security guard is in there, so i ask him where the 8238 is. he tells me that all the apartments here are a number followed by a letter (i.e. 2A), so i need to call this guy back. when i do, he tells me he lives in 10J. welllllll...THANKS FOR TELLING ME YOUR APARTMENT NUMBER YOU *#&!(#&!(#&TARD. STRIKE THREE.

i get to 10J. i knock on the door. no answer. i ring the doorbell. no answer. SERIOUSLY?! ...aaaaand YOU HAVE BEEN SHUNNED. i ring it again, and the door opens. the BOY (yes, not guy. basically boy) who opens it is not the white stoner i'd envisioned, but this asian kid who looks to be about 16. he later told me that he was a sophomore, but he looked super duper young. he mentions that two freshmen live there. at this point, i feel so OLD. even before i find this out, i've pretty much decided that i don't want that living room, no matter how cheap it is.

the living room was actually not bad. spacious enough, nice light, great views of lake merced and even of the ocean on a clear day. but seriously. that kid needs to pull it together if he's ever going to rent that room out.

but this, folks, is why apartment hunting blows.

i ended up taking a room in the same apartment complex. i found a cheap room for about the same price that most people in this building pay to share a room. the room is bigger than my old room, and i have a closet (no more crashing garment rack. hooray!) the only problem is that the lease ends on may 31, so there's a strong possibility that i'll be moving again after all that. argh. but i have a place lined up should that happen, so all will be good.

so...the fire alarm in the building is currently going off. i peeked outside to see if anyone was evacuating, but everyone seems to still be in their rooms, but i hear sirens. what to do? hmmm...of course this happens the first night i move in, right?

i'm still making my way through those pictures from when my computer was broken, and i think i've finally gone through most of them :) here are a couple more to share with y'all.

from an afternoon out at crissy field. i love that place...it's beachy, has a grassy area, and has the best views of the golden gate bridge.

reyanna suggested that i check out jack london park. the boy's mother suggested it also, so we headed up there one afternoon. it was cool, although we barely saw a tiny part of it, since we got there kind of late. definitely going back, though!

we stopped by one of the wineries in sonoma also. wine tasting, yum :)

i think i mentioned on here that i finally took a trip to alcatraz. there were stunning views of the city both on the way there and from the island...

and of course i had to make someone take a photo of me "in jail":

nothing super exciting to report with y'all (except that i'm moving in about a week), but wanted to share these two things -

i have the digi challenge digi challenge over at two peas this week, and it's to use the shape/marquee tool on a digi LO. i never knew that there was such an abundance of shapes included under the custom shapes tool in photoshop, and it was fun discovering them all - definitely something i need to play with more in the future. for this page, however, i used a heart to go along with the theme of the photos!

also...my "so thankful" LO was selected by scrapbooks etc. as one of the originals for the november/december make it yours column. you can go here to see the layout, and then create your own version of it for a chance to have it published in the magazine. there are also two other fabulous LOs up there that you can also lift! fun stuff :)

did you see that KI came out with some new KI came out with some new digital collections? me+KI+digi = swoooooon. i couldn't resist playing with some of it soon after i saw it!

i love that they have the old pieces of me and colorful lines in there, so i can print them out and use them again! yay! they also have some new, digi-only love elsie stuff. and they have a ton of super fun brushes, which i used on the above LO. exciting, exciting :)

this has been a crazy, busy, hectic, and stressful week. i'm in the process of finding a new place, and have tentatively found a place. it all hinges on someone taking the other room they're renting out, but looks good so far. fingers crossed. i've also had a bunch of things due this week, and i feel like i've constantly been running around and on the go, too. looking forward to my weekend...and BREATING. we're planning to go to zachary's. i've been craving it AGAIN!

spring break is over, i'm back in san francisco, and it's been busy. i'm having to look for a new place ASAP and it's been frustrating. grrr. the rest of my break was nice, and the cabin was nice. the weather has been lovely over here in SF since i got back though!

anyways. just sharing my garden layouts for you :) this month's garden is FABULOUS - go check it out!

this month's theme was stamping - soooo not my thing, but i do love stamping with empty toilet paper rolls. hehe :)

new product focus - this new baby stuff from little yellow bicycle is soooo cute. and i made it work on an all about me page!

so i got the sophia bush cut -

it looks a bit different. it was styled wavy yesterday, but still different. short hair g. short hair gets a bit to get used to, though. and i remember why i stuck with long-ish - it's waaaaay easier to style, for me anyway.

i've been scrapping a little bit at home, which is a challenge when a) most of your stuff is still in san francisco, and b) you have no paper trimmer here. i've managed, though...and even did a digi page :)

i'm continuing the playlist layouts...this is january's. i think i might have to skip february because my computer was down and i really didn't listen to ANYTHING. this page has a bunch of digi goodies from two peas...you can see what i used here

for kelly's challenge to do a LO in under 30 minutes on the KI blog. easy peasy. i did the page around that sticker.

i'm indecisive, so i figured i'd give this a try...i'm scheduled for a haircut tomorrow, and really have NO idea how to get it done (really, i could live with what i have right now, but i figured i should just get it done while i'm here). so, here are my (many) options -

a friend pointed this out to me, and i liked it because i've been styling my hair wavy these days (it takes less time than straightening. who knew?). but, straightened out it looks kind of like this -

...it looks so much cuter wavy.

i really don't like paramore (especially after i got moshed at a show where they happened to be performing)...but i love hayley's hair. my hair is a bit thicker than hers, but this one seems much more manageable and do-able than her other cut (when she had the orange hair). and did i tell you i really like it?

this is supercute. i was wanting something longer though, because i like to be able to throw my hair up whenever i'm too lazy to do it (which is more often than i'd like, lol. but i'm getting better at it). i wonder if it would look good if it was shoulder length-ish, or just above the shoulders?

i wish i could see the front, but i like it from the side.

i was flipping through marie claire for inspiration, and noticed a picture of natasha bedingfield and liked her hair. so i googled this.

hilary duff. i like the bangs.

lastly -

i've asked for that cut a couple of times, and i've always liked it (i tend to really like mandy moore's hair). it works for me, but really, i think i should try something new, don't you?
