As the President of a 501c3 non-profit organization that deals with LGBT issues in Washtenaw County, I am EXTREMELY disappointed that people who have worked in multiple non-profit organizations would misuse information that they were charged with. This is disgusting, unethical and a violation of the public's trust. I will be looking into whether Paul Schreiber knows what is happening or not...

though really, this is how politics is really played despite assurances of clean and positive campaigns.

Wasn't it Lincoln who said "any man can show great courage in adversity, however to gain the true measure of a man's character, give him power" or words to that effect?

Kate: There was a controversy created by the same YCFE leaders when a less than thorough review of their records reflected that Fanta was anti-YCFE (which he was not).

Only after I and apparently Paul Schreiber both contacted Fanta and got the real story did they concede that their intepretation was in error.

What strikes me as odd about that situation was that the people doing the judging and issuing the opinion didn't get in touch with the person who they were judging at the time, just as is the case now.

This is niggling in my mind, so let me throw it out there: Aren't these the same women who brought the gay issue into the school board elections a few years ago? And I'm not talking Tom Reiber, here, because you and I both know about that one, Cam.

But, I'm thinking something was said by these two in the same election where the postcard was sent around with spurious allegations about Floyd Brumfield. I think the postcard overshadowed this other, but I seem to recall YCFE leadership saying something about Andy Fanta, or Floyd, or maybe Andy AND Floyd being anti-gay, but then having to retract that.

I don't remember what happened, exactly, but somehow they screwed up the information and had really said some nasty things that weren't true. I'm pretty sure it was Bath Bashert and Lisa Zuber who did it, too, because I remember thinking Lisa was going to get John in trouble, politically, if she kept that up.

Does anyone else remember that better than I do?

Kate, I've spoken with a number of fellow YCFE supporters. Nobody I've spoken to was contacted prior to the endorsement, and I'm not aware that there is a formal executive board. The campaign filings don't show one.

Paul's campaign paid for the mailing.

I only know the rules applicable to candidates, not to PAC's or ballot initiative committees, so I can't really respond to your other question.

Okay, I have questions: You say the two co-chairs decided to send this letter out on their own. Did they not poll some kind of executive board or the membership or whatever to get a sense of whether or not they were speaking for everyone?

Is the YCFE a PAC? If so, don't they have to abide by some rules as to who speaks for the committee? And whether or not the information they disseminate is accurate?

Who pays for the mailing?

I agree with everything you said, especially about working together after the election. No matter who is at the head, it's still OUR town.
