This is the unnoficial page{blog} for the "Day of Reason", It is particularly for Canada. There is an Official Page of the "National Day of Reason" is the U.S. at www.nationaldayofreason.org . This one for the time being will act as the official page for the movement in Canada{until such a time as someone w/more money and resources; perhaps a Humanist,Secularist, or democratic freethought group in Canada contacts the U.S. organizers for more info, and sets up a page for here in Canada}.

Canadian groups and individuals interested in this may email the U.S. organizers; I also ask that you email me and let me know your plans if so. I ask that anyone in my vicinity of Brandon,Manitoba,Canada, and the Wetman area whom is interested in what is{if anything} going to take place here in Brandon/area email me and leave their email address and/or phone neumber; my email is Iconoclastithon@hotmail.com .

Now, I will explain this whole concept, why it exists, and variuos other info about it, how and where it originated and how and why I am attempting to bring it here to Canada. So, if you are interested at all, please bear w/me and read this blog post. Thank you for your patience and consideration.

The "Day of Reason" is officially entitled "The National Day of Reason". The N.D.O.R. is aUnited States move in rebuttal to the current rise of conservative,Evangelical, and Fundamentalist Christian power currntly overshadowing the U.S. More specifically, it is a retort to the "National Day of Prayer" beeing held in the U.S. The N.D.O.P organizers apparently are also attempting to take their thing worldwide w/ a "Global Day of Prayer"{May 5-15/05}.

Why is this "National/Global day of Prayer" so bad and worth parodying in the name of "reason"? Well, for starters they are'nt even attempting to make it an interfaith event or anything, it is purely the Evangelical,Fundamentalist,mainstream Christian Church seeking once again to subvert democracy and interfere w/secular politics to keep the secular govt,state, and world under their thumb and hooked to their strings,a nd that of their Bible and their god{or their versions/intrpretations of them rather}.
The fact that they are currently in a struggle across the western world and in North America{the U.S. especially, but also in Canada} to keep secular laws in line w/their intrpretation of theology and morality, and are interfering in secular politics and in the secular arena w/their massive wealth,power, and, influence, shows this to be quite a threat to the rest of us of other religions or of no-religion.

As I said, they have ALOT of wealth,power, and influence; more than their fair share of it, more than any other person or group of any other religion or non-religion in our so-called secular democracy of North America/the west.
We can see it in the U.S right now for example, their myths and supersitions are invading the scientific realm and the realm of secular govt{which has been hijacked by Fundamentalist/Evangelical Christian fanatics}. The U.S.{the worlds Super power whom exerts alot of control and power in the world and pulls alot of puppet strings} is falling under their spell and power, thanks to their hypocrite evangelical Emperor..err..king...I mean um...President. Because of him and the Neo-Conservatives and the Fundamentalist Fanatics working w/them, the wealth and power of the Christian right is growing once again.

As Canadians, we should be concerned about this and on the alert. {1} for our freethinking and democratic secularist friends in the U.S., for their sake, as a support to them. {2} Because the Powerful/wealthy religious right and all the politicians attached to their strings{and visa versa},such as Bush, in the U.S. will quite likely subversevely{or maybe obviuosly} support in any way they can the religious right fanatics in Canada. In which case, this can help them gain too much power and wealth too{not that they don't allready have more than their fair share of this anyways}.

The Christian right, as much as it brandishes and abuses the flag of of the words/ideas of "democracy", "freedom/liberty", and "equality", has so far tried to, and continues to fight against these very principles subversevely{and sometimes 'blatantly'} by using their tremendous and unfair amount of wealth,power, and influence to hold back and hold off womens rights,gay rights, freethinkers and non-religious peopls rights{as they have done to other minorities and groups in the past}, the rights of anyone not of the Abrahamic religions and perhaps Buddhism and a couple others{even with these, the Christian right have been guilty of it a bit}-even though their are hundreds of faith/religious and non-faith groups of people; and the rights of pretty much anyone whom they consider too "sinful" and not befitting of their One way-ist,absurd version of, monotheistic God, often even if they are of some other monotheistic "one way" Patriarchal faith like the Christians faith. They do thsi to anyone whom has not gained their favor.

They cry "persecution" against their religion every time people or groups they happen to consider "sinful"{ie; gays, pagans,atheists and agnostics, pantheists and deists and freethinkers, in some cases-women,etc} try to get equality and democratic rights promised them by the Constitution and the Charter,etc.
Even though these very groups of people do not seek to remove their religious freedoms from them.{from the conservative Christians}, and every time the Evangelical/Fundy/Conservative Christians and Churches excess and unfair degree of wealth,power, and influence/control is challenged; every time this corruption and exploitation and subversive control they weild is challenged by democratic, scientific,etc, ideas and facts and people, they cry "persecution/end times-the devils armies are out to destroy the Creator{whatever, as if that can be done; "if" there is a Creator- which "if" there is-it doe snot mean it is the their Monotheistic Abrahamic Chrstian idol made in their image}. This power and control they have wielded over our heads, particularly here in the western world for centuries and centuries.
Clearly, we cannot let their efforts go unchallenged and unchecked.

Hence, the "DAY OF RASON".
In the U.S., as I mentioned before, as the hordes of Christian fundamentalism are organizing to subvert the world{particularly North America}; so variuos democratic and frethought groups and individuals have banded together, headed up by various Humanist groups.
The "National Day of Reason" in the U.S. is taking place on May 5/05; the same day as the "National Day of Prayer"; unfortunately the Fundies have one up on them, the "global day of prayer"{May 5-15/05}. No doubt the Christian Fundies will attempt to use this subversevely to influence secular politics and law in some way, in order to subvert true democracy closer towards their theocratic vision of the world, as they usaully attempt.

When I, BILL BAKER, of Brandon,Manitoba,Canada, found out about these events very recently, I knew that I had to try to attempt to bring the "Day of Reason" to Canada{and help inspire a "Global" movement for this-hopefully that will happen by next years events}. My hopes for it to go global{by next year} is something I have mentioned and will continue to mention to the U.S. group and all other groups there,here, and abroad; there is obviously alot of work and sharing to be done by all of us.

As I mentioned, I've allready emailed the N.D.O.R. organization in the U.S. with my hopes, and they liked the ideas, and have encouraged me in my efforts for here in Canada. I only hope that they{the U.S.} and the groups here in Canada will all contact each other and dialogue about this asap.
I have VERY LITTLE money and resourses, which Is why I'm requesting that anyone with these things help out and contribute/sacrifice to further this D.O.R. project.
For the sake of democracy,freethought, and reason, against the encroachment and war on democracy beeing conducted by the Religious Christian Right.

I have contacted the Manitoba Humanists group, or rather an individual I've met online whom belongs to the group and he says he included them,himself on the U.S. "N.D.O.R." sites list of "endorsers"{to which I've also included myself}, and he also told me that he has emailed the others higher in the org about this.
I've also contacted the "Humanists Association of Canada"{HAC} via email about this; I have yet to hear back frm them{unfortunately}, PERHAPS, SOME OTHER GROUP OIR INDIVIDUAL CAN more easily get in contact w/them and persuade them to check my blog here, email me, and check the U.S. site and email them, and to contact any other seculrist,humanist, frethought, democratic groups in Canada{including liberal Chrisians whom many of wich also feel offende dby and afaid of the Fundy/evangelical Christian right-whom thinks them a bunch of heretics}.

So, please, if you are reading this, group or individual, influential or not, I encourage you to contact the HAC{and anyone else, and other groups, and individuals, friends and family too}.

Also, I encourage all supporters of this to add their names to the "endorsers" list of the U.S.'s "N.D.O.R." site{whether you be individuals or groups}. The U.S. "N.D.O.R." people told me they would consider changing their title to simply a less nationalistic "Day of Reason"{removing "national"} if things went right.

Now, that you know about this, I encourage you to tell every body you can; and share this blog address, as well as the U.S. site address{for both the "Nationl day of reason" and "the National day of Prayer"}.

One last thing;
WHAT TO DO for this day of reason?
Well, the U.S. site has some ideas.
Also, I encourage rallies in public, meetings and seminars and speeches by academics,freethinkers, people affected negatively by religious fundyism, secularists,etc.
Invite friends and family whom are religious{and non-religious}.
Hold rallies,marches,etc, in Public Parks or down streets w/banners,etc.
Write letters to Newspapers and Magazines talking about this day, and/or promoting freethought and progressive ideologies and religions/irreligions, and/or perhaps exposes against christian/religious Evangelicism/fundamentalism{or fundamentalism in general},etc.
Choice is yours what to do people{if anything},It's up to each individual group or city or person, these are just some ideas, and there are other ideas at the U.S. site.

Let's make our voice heard, let's defend ourselves as non-christian fundies/evangelicals, let's defend seperation of Church and State, let's get our butts out there and make our voices and voice{collectively} heard; let's defend equality,democracy, freedom, and our greates asset and weapon "Reason".

UPDATE: by the way, I'm letting you all know that "if" any events take place, these events will not be "just" for those of faithless philosophy interest. People of minority religions whom are threatened by the Christian right, and people of progressive/non-absolutist and liberal faiths are invited to join in;so long as they agree w/keeping our secular democracy a secular democracy where EVERY belief/religion and non-belief/irreligion has exactly equal say and exactly equal power,wealth,influence,etc, and are against the imposing theocratic views and morals of the Christian Right{or for that matter the religious right of any faith that thinks they have a right to try to subvert secular democracy to advance their faith ahead to gain more power and influence than the others}.

NEWS,SATURDAY APRIL 9/2005:
Well, The eforts to take the day of reason global are beginning to succeed. Here in Canada, the Humanist Association of Manitoba- http://mb.humanists.ca/ and http://mbhumanists.blogspot.com and the Humanists Association of Canada http://hac.humanists.net/ are both now on board and promoting it.
Also the U.S. "National Day of Reason" site has included my blog on their "activism" page, as well they have also included us all on their "endorsers" list page.
Whether or not this will be global this year-remains to be seen, but is unlikely. But Canada and the U.S. are both now working to make this happen.
If you are reading this and you agree w/this mission, I encourage you to help out in whatever way you can.

Though other faith groups that are under threat from the Evangelical/Fundy Christian right have been invited; this day of reason IS mainly beeing put together by and promoted by Secular Humanists, atheists/agnostics, and other faithless freethinkers{that includes some liberal religionists and of course thge likes of Deists and Pantheists and whatnot}. So, please BE AWARE that secular humanism,unbelief, will probaly be the main promotion, but the right sof other faith groups threataned by Christian Fundyism/Evangelicalism will also be championed!

NEWS:MAY 4/05
So, it is one day before the "Day Of Reason", and to my knowledge not much has happenned in Canada. I'm disappointed, and I'm disapointed that in ym own City I was not able to rally together enough intersted individuals to put something together for our town{oh well, next year I will certainly make sure to have rallied together some troops to do something for the day}. However, to my knowledge the "Humanists Association of Canada" and "Manitoba Humanists Association" are encouraging their members to write letters to their Members of Parliament in observance of this day, the letters will be to challenge the inclusion of the Monotheistic/Abrhamic term "God" in the Charter,etc. I myself plan on writing one as well ASAP. I encourage other freethinkers to do the same.
I will keep you updated on any news. I plan on putting forth some more effort soon to contact whatver groups and individuals I can to get the word of the "Day of Reason" out, so that we can have it globa;{or semi-global} by next year, and I encourage all people of reason{especially groups such as Humanist groups and other freethought orgs and groups} to contact other ones across the globe.
The Rreligious Fundamentaliost Christian right is seeking to subvert us, and it is my firm opinion that we need to fight fire w/fire, to challenge their "global day of prayer" with a "Global day of Reason"{by next year}.
So, warriors of reason, lets get in contact w/each other, let's put the word out and put forth more effort; this is something we can all benefit from.
