Commons Petition - Speed Limit, Parking

A mailing went out to homeowners in The Commons this week asking them to sign a petition regarding the speed limit and street parking. Details can be found here.

After receiving the petition, we have had several homeowners contact us asking what they should do if they were in support of one, but not both, of the items outlined in the petition. If you're in that situation, we ask that you please cross out the appropriate section and then return the petition.

Dog Walk - Raise money for The American Cancer Society

Friends and Neighbors,

I am organizing a doggie walk to raise money for The American Cancer Society. You can help fight back against cancer by making a $5.00 donation and take your four legged friend for a walk around Harrington Grove. Your friend will get a purple bandana to sport for the cause.

If you would like to sport a T-shirt I am taking orders that say "fight like a girl" they are brown with pink writing and have the pink breast cancer ribbon on it. The cost is $12 for short sleeve and $18 for long sleeve. I also have koozies for $3 with same saying. All orders and money need to be turned in by Monday March 23rd.

Updated Architectural Standards

Please note that the Architectural Standards have been updated to include specifications for house (address) numbers:

House Number (Mailbox and Property Structure)

Mailbox House Number

The United States Postal Service (USPS) requires the house number be visibly displayed on the mailbox. To ensure consistency throughout Harrington Grove, the following standards apply:

House number(s) must be attached to the mailbox post on either the horizontal or vertical post surface, on the side of the post in the direction of travel of the mail carrier's normal route. Mounting house numbers on more than one side of the mailbox post is optional and not required.

The size (height) of the numbers must be not less than 2” (two inches) in height, and not exceed 4” (four inches) in height. There is no font style requirement.

Numbers will be manufactured of plastic or metal; self-adhesive paper or peel-off numbers are not permitted.

The requisite colors for numbers are black or a brass/gold finish. As an alternative, “white numbers on a black background” or “black on white” reflective numbers are permitted provided the reflective numbers meet the 2” to 4” height requirement and are manufactured of either plastic or metal.

If landscaping (such as bushes or climbing vines) is placed around or near the mailbox post, homeowners are responsible to maintain and trim the landscaping to provide visibility of the mailbox post house number.

Property Structure House Number

The Harrington Grove developer installed address house numbers on each home facing the street to comply with the 911 Emergency Call System. To maintain consistency throughout Harrington Grove, the following standards apply:

· It shall be the responsibility of the owner of any residential structure in Harrington Grove to install and maintain a house number sign, which conforms to the requirements of this ARC standard.

House number(s) must be mounted flat on the front of the home’s primary residence wall siding, trim, support post or pillar of the principal structure with an unobstructed and front view from the street.

The required colors for numbers are either black or a brass/gold finish.

The sizes (height) of house structure numbers are not less than 3” (three inches) and not more than 6” (six inches) in height. There is no font style requirement.

We're 'testing' a new Private Property sign. The wording is based on guidance from the Raleigh Police Dept. and is designed to give us more recourse when dealing with solicitors. Before we purchase more, we want to know what you think. The sign is currently located at the front entrance. Please go to our forum and vote in the poll or just send an email with your thoughts.

Council Approves Everyday Water Conservation Measures

The Raleigh City Council on Sept. 16 approved permanent everyday water conservation rules as recommended by the Water Conservation Advisory Council.

The rules apply to all customers using water from the City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department in Raleigh, Garner, Knightdale, Wendell, Zebulon, Wake Forest and Rolesville. Customers using automatic or non-automatic irrigation systems may water their lawn from 12:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for addresses ending in an odd number. Wednesday, Friday and Sunday are watering days for even-numbered addresses. Hose end sprinklers may be operated from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the same odd and even address schedule as sprinklers systems. No irrigating is allowed on Monday. Leesville Rd Update

We wanted to share the following with you:

As some of you may be aware, yesterday the Raleigh City Council adopted its budget for FY 2008-2009. I am happy to announce that the approximately $1.1 million which the City had recommended to begin the design phase of the Leesville Road Project was approved. That is what we sought, and what we initially needed to keep this project on track. However, funds for completing the project are contingent upon another Bond Referendum being held, and passed. Although Leesville Road’s share of that referendum will (only) be approximately 10 million, the total referendum package will be approximately $129 million. The referendum was initially recommended for the fall of 2008, but due to the overall current economic situation, as well as the fact that the budget that the City Council just approved already includes some significant tax and fee increases for citizens, it was decided to put off the referendum until some time in 2009. However, in speaking with some folks at the City, this delay probably will not have a significant adverse impact on the Leesville Road Project due to the fact that the design phase will probably take 12 – 18 months anyway.

We thank everyone who contacted the City Council. Several council members have commented to me that they have received letters and emails from their constituents concerning this project. Please take another minute to write, call, or email the City Council and thank them for what they have done so far, and to encourage them to make sure that this project stays on the fast track for completion. Our work is not over yet, but I believe a major accomplishment has been realized. On behalf of Father Mark G. Reamer, our pastor, and Ben Whitehouse, we wish to thank-you for your efforts in this endeavor. We will be in touch as this project progresses.

Complaints regarding security company

We've received several complaints about a security company going door-to-door and saying they have permission from the HOA to be in the neighborhood. This is NOT true, and they have been told on numerous occasions that we have a no soliciting policy and need to leave the neighborhood.
