In Romania erau cunoscuti pana acum drept "Urbani", dar termenul corect international este "Hipster". In ultimul an observ ca se trece la notatia internationala:

Inca nu stiu multe despe viitorul turn facut de arhitecta Zaha Hadid, dar sunt foarter bucuros si o sa incerc sa explic de ce cred ca este un lucru foarte bun pentru Bucuresti si pentru arhitectura din Romania.

Ca (fost) arhitect ma si bucur, sunt si un pic ingrijorat de concurenta careia trebuie sa ii faca fata arhitectii romani. Dar concurenta creste calitatea asa ca e bine.

Pentru oras este genial. E ca si cum RATB pe langa flota de Mercedes ar adauga si cateva "autobuze Lamborgini" sau chiar "autobuze Bugatti Veiron". Lucrarile arhitectilor atat de celebrii sunt piese de colectie. Bucurestiul este deja un colectionare destul de bogat, are zone istorice, un Balcescu-Magheru cu niste exemple de modernism de toata mandria, Horia Creanga etc...

Dar piesa asta, Turnul din Dorobanti, e o adevarata bijuterie. E genul de lucrare care are toate sansele sa aiba rasunet international. Tot PR-ul acesta rasfrangandu-se asupra orasului. E un reper. Daca totul va merge bine, si chiar se va construi, o sa aduca Bucurestiul un pas mai aproape de orasul viitorului la care am visat de cand eram mic.

Limbajul arhitectural este surprinzator de fin si elegant pentru un obiect la asa o scara.
Si este realizat cu mijloace foarte simple, folosete extraordinar structura pentru a crea un gradient. De abia astept sa vad detalii, terminatii, soclul si multe altele atunci cand va fi gata.

Sper sa revin cu mai multe detalii cand o sa aflu cu cine va lucra, daca va fi un birou partener, ce ingineri structuristi locali va folosi - si alte detalii despre cum a strabatut hatisul birocratic si cum a rezolvat problema parcarilor.

What makes a scene ? It's just a group that does the same thing in a community with maybe a hint of competitiveness. We have words like street-cred. But more about that later.

Let's take the skate scene. It's about learning how to do better tricks and that's just fun. There are many scenes. Hackers have their scene. Then there is the Demoscene closely related. What they have in common is playing with some skill / talent / technique.

This can continue with different genres of music. Music making that is. I'm taking bands, maybe garage bands, but this doesn't cover the fans of the band, that's a different story altogether.

Which brings me to art. Contemporary art. This is a good place for frauds to hide in plain sight. But it's not that bad, it probably was like that even way back. This matter will be sorted off by time - into the forgotten and the revered.

What then with contemporary art ? It spawns an interesting community around it. Bystanders. + Poser artists. + Maybe some PR for some of the unproven / untested posers. + Praisers. + PLUS DRESSERS

DRESSERS just need to hang - it's rather an endeavor of little effort. See - buy - imitate - repeat. Find trendy spot - pose -> Yey!

That's what i think of hipsters in Romania. With them being called URBANS here.
A term they happily embrace.

But the terribly funny thing about this scene is that it's like it's made for frauds.
There is no way to measure - not even the only currency of appearance - it's too subjective. There is no technical thing or skill. Maybe that's why > The whole hipster scene is trying to rub shoulders with tangent scenes - be it skaters - musicians - or non-phony-artists. And in no way is that harmful. It's just funny. Like anything that takes itself too seriously.

I WANT TO GET TO SEE THE DAY TO HEAR SOME DUDE OR CHICK SAY:

"That's so funny and retarded, last night i dressed like fucking Screech in a club - just like that picture i saw when i was studying what hipsters dress like in the US - man that was so funny and retarded."

Welcome to self irony. Or just tell me it's some postmodern attitude i don't understand.
Whatever you say I'll tell you that geeks got more street-cred in my book.

I know many cool people in many scenes. I look at them and i see they aren't trying hard to prove anything with how they dress or what they do or where they choose to hang.

It's like the old joke with "who has the biggest car - and what's he trying to compensate for?".

And the cherry on the top is that i really think most if not all of these people are at least smarter than the average. Go figure :)

This the first building i have seen grow from absolute scratch.

I can remember the first time i saw the ground dug in the shape of what was to become this nice fancy building.
After months of dragging my cursor over the plans it was right there, just a damned hole, but bigger than life.
I actually visualized the cursor being this huge 10 meter long thing, hovering above the ground.

I waited a lot of time to see the facade completed. Well here it is.

Yahoo's got the users or user base and some content - and the maps - the maps that ran away from Flex (supposedly ajax developers were more affordable) But who runs away from Flex ? Aaah!

Microsoft's got windows in my home, and deals with all them hardware vendors, like guess what you'll find on your new lappy, big chances it'll be Vista.

Apple's got the good design, the turtle neck presentations, the followers, the cult.

Adobe's got the love of the developers, it's got flash everywhere, and it's getting bigger and better.
I can't help feeling like there 's a secret plan going on with Air, can't wait to see how it develops in a few years.

Google's got us by the habit, and it has an iron grip around many of our needs. I would like to be able to not think of it fondly, but i can't. I'm scared that if it will turn evil all i'll be able to do is immediately go into Stockholm Syndrome.

Nu ma refer numai la baietii care mai mult sau mai putin au incercat sa rupa recordul de blue-balls, pentru ca they just happen to be nice (or dumb) guys. Ma refer si la fetele prea usor imbarligate de guys who be playaz.

what gets your eyes open? some would argue that getting wine or getting high. i sincerely believe i will nevah be tempted to experiment. i'm quite content. the sudden clarity of an otherwise obscure moment. the joy of contrast in this tidal wave chemical mind. common grey uniform banality as the majestic canvas. events and realisations popping up like enemy planes on the radar. pleasantly surprised by the unexpected fear. activating that part of you that analyses and seez pattens, watch the flashes of fascination bubble up on that grey canvas. understand how the picture forms and be content that you are gonna forget all just the same. just to be amazed again. your only strength is in the fact that you do not controll al this. so what's left ? Enjoying this, now, and later, and when you'll remember again. It ain't bad ;)

Dar asta e un trist adevar pentru restul lumii. Pentru jucatorii care nu si-au upgrade-at unitatile.
Daca jupuim un singur strat. Diplomatia sa zicem, de pe globul asta sarac si plin de oameni.

Daca jupuim diplomatia, incepem sa distingem cele 2 lumi, lumea care vorbeste la televizor, la conferinte de presa, toti cei care au ambasade una in tara celuilalt. Cei ce stiu, cei ce nu vorbesc tot.
Cei care se intalnesc cate doi si dau noroc si vorbesc in fatza camerelor de luat vederi pentru ca noi, lume, sa vedem ca ei isi zambesc, ca si ei sunt umani. Nu spun nimic, pentru ca noi poate nu am intelege. Dar zambesc, stau pe doua fotolii dupa intalniri la nivel inalt si ne fac sa avem incredere.

Noi suntem oi, oi care se strang la gard sa vada cand ciobanul jupuieste alta oaie, ingrijorate si tacute, si cu inima plina de iubire si pentru cioban si pentru oaia jupuita. Singurul moment cand nu gresim e cand ii iubim. - Insa cand tacem, cand uitam dupa 2 saptamani de un genocid. Atunci gresim.

Si ne intoarcem la hora noasta, a economiei mari, in care mai cumparam un procesor, un tricou si uitam ziua de azi....oamenii de ieri. Pentru ca viatza e buna cu noi.
