Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 7, at Bryant Funeral Home, Alliance, and the funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, at Lowland Church of Christ.

Congratulations Graduates!

Bethany congratulates it's graduates, Meredith Beeman, Sarah Brinson and Nickey Cannan!

Nickey Cannan graduated from the Craven Community College High School Program, while Meredith Beeman graduated from Meredith College. Sarah Brinson received a law degree from the North Carolina Central University School of Law.

Bethany is proud of its graduates.

Third Bethany Movie Night Coming Up July 10

The film Fireproof will be screened at Bethany Movie Night 3, a free event scheduled for Friday, July 10, at 7:00 p.m. A separate movie will be shown for children, and a fully-staffed nursery will be provided. Movie Night is open to the community as well as to Bethany members, who are urged to invite their friends and neighbors. Free refreshments will be served after the screening of the film, and a drawing for a door prize will be held.

Fireproof is a family-friendly film about a firefighter whose marriage is disintegrating because of the way he treats his wife. When the couple prepares for divorce, the firefighter's father challenges him to make a commitment that will save his marriage. While trying to live up to his commitment, he comes to understand God's love and what it means to truly love his wife; but it may be too late to recapture the couple's relationship.

Movie Night 3 will be the third in a series of free movie events over the past several months. Those who attended the first two greatly enjoyed the movies and fellowship, and the third will be a lot of fun, too, so plan to attend. You'll be glad you did!

Group 5 to Hold Yard Sale June 20

Bethany women's Group 5 will hold a yard sale at the church beginning at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, and ending at 2:00 p.m.

Lunch plates consisting of a hot dog, chips, baked beans, cookie and a soda will be for sale for $5.00 each. Proceeds from the yard sale and lunch sale will be used to provide a fenced area for the nursery.

Church members are asked to begin saving items for the sale. For those who do not have storage space, Group 5 can make arrangements.

Donations of items to the sale are appreciated, but individuals may rent booths there for their own sales.

Amity Christian Church Hosts VBS in July

Annual Sunday School Picnic Scheduled for June 28

Bethany's annual Sunday School Picnic will be held at Camp Caroline beginning at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 28.

Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be provided, but those attending are asked to bring side dishes and desserts to be shared. Dinner will be around 5:00 p.m.

Food Collection Resumes June 21

As food pantries experience increased requests for food due to higher unemployment, Bethany is resuming monthly food collection June 21.

The most needed food items include peanut butter, jelly, rice, dry pasta (e.g., macaroni and spaghetti), spaghetti sauce, macaroni-and-cheese boxes, canned fruits, canned meats, pancake mix, pancake syrup, oatmeal and grits.

Collection baskets have been placed in the narthex. Collected items will be taken to the Catholic Church in Oriental for distribution to individuals and families in need of assistance. Please help as you can.

Second Free Movie to be Shown Friday

The second of a series of free movies offered to the public will be presented at 7:00p.m., Friday, May 29. The objective of the series is to provide the Pamlico County community with a free event that offers a Christian message, a chance for families to spend time together, and all-around entertainment for anyone.

The film, “Facing the Giants,” is a family-friendly action movie about a high school football coach who finds a new way to face challenges on and off the field.

The church will provide a fully-staffed nursery, and a separate children’s movie will be shown. After the screening, free refreshments will be served.

The first movie was a lot of fun for those who attended. If you missed the first one, be sure to see the second one, and bring friends! This is a chance to wear your Bethany polo shirt, too.

Outreach to Send Care Packages

The outreach committee will kick off a military care package project May 31, and collect items for the first two weeks in June, then mail the packages so that they can be received by July 4.

The committee asks that, if you have friends, family or loved ones serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, you send the names and complete addresses to Terry Cannan, terry.cannan@ncmail.net.

New Church Building Dedicated

With the interior illuminated through stained glass windows by the brilliance of an April afternoon sun, the congregation and friends of Bethany on April 26 dedicated to the glory of God the beautiful church building that rose from the ashes of the historic building that burned to the ground in June of 2007.

Among those at the dedication were friends from church congregations--Disciples and others--from as far away as Brunswick, Ga., friends from the community, representatives of the construction company and architect, and others who helped in the rebuilding.

Preceding the dedication, Bethany gratefully thanked those who tried to save the burned building, those who helped in the clean-up and reorganization after the fire, and those who helped with the rebuilding.

Also dedicated were the organ and piano, wonderfully demonstrated by organist Tom Gibson and pianist Shirley Ensley, the chancel furniture, and the stained glass windows.

We gathered,

We sang,

Bells played,

and we enjoyed refreshments,

as we prayed that this new building, God's building, will be the home of the Bethany church family for many hundreds of years into the future, and that it will provide the setting for the faithful whose home this will be for spiritual nourishment and renewal of faith, for those who will here be baptized into the love of Christ, those who will marry here in the presence of God, and those who will depart this life for the everlasting life that is ours through the love of Christ.

The Bethany church family was deeply saddened yesterday when we learned that Barbara Lee had died.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 30, at Bethany. Visitation will be at Bryant Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The church will provide a dinner for the family at noon Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the memorial fund of Bethany.

We offer our condolences and prayers to the family, in the knowledge that Barbara is at peace and with her Lord and Don.

DEDICATION SUNDAY SET FOR APRIL 26

Just twenty-two months after a fire destroyed the historic sanctuary, and a year after ground was broken for a new building, on April 26 the Bethany congregation will dedicate the building that took its place.

The dedication service will take place at 3 p.m., followed by a reception with refreshments in the fellowship hall. All are welcome to attend.

During the dedication, the firefighters who tried to save the building will be thanked, along with people, churches and groups that helped in the aftermath of the fire and during the reconstruction. Also, those people of Bethany who worked hard to make the new building possible, and the families that gave stained glass windows, chancel furniture, organ and piano, will be recognized.

We warmly invite all those who in any way have helped make the new building possible to attend and receive our grateful thanks.

Plan Now for the August Camping Trip

In order to reserve camping sites for the Myrtle Beach family camping trip August 7-9, those planning to go must inform the activities committee by April 30, and specify the type of site they want--camper site, camping cabin or tent space.

The event will be at the KOA campground, which is convenient to the beach, Putt Putt, shopping and other attractions. Everyone had a great time last year. Come join us!

Souper Relay Sunday to Benefit Relay for Life

Rather than the ususal 5th-Sunday Dinner, March 29 will be Souper Relay Sunday. Immediately after worship the Relay for Life Team will host a soup and sandwich lunch in the fellowship hall. A donation to Relay for Life is requested, and all proceeds will benefit Relay for Life.

We are sad to learn of the death Monday of Rebecca Cowell's mother, Sue Morris. The funeral is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 28, in Oakland City, Indiana.
