I will be posting it soon at this site http://www.uchilake.com. It would take a newsletter ten times the size to actually mention all the great walleye and northern catches this season so obviously I had to limit the number of entries.

Overall the walleyes were the leaders and for only on reason. The majority of you like to fish walleye and enjoy eating walleye over northern pike. That’s understandable but what I enjoy the most about fishing northern pike is the fight they put up. There’s nothing like the challenge of reeling in a 40 inch Northern. Since I don’t have the strength to bring a 40 inch northern into the boat for pictures, I simply get the pic while the fish is in the water and release it as soon as possible.

Many thanks for your pictures everybody as I will be showing them off at the first Sportshow in Chicago at the Pheasant Run Facility in St. Charles. After The Chicago show I will be moving over to Milwaukee for a three day All Canada Show. Hopefully I will see many of you there and we can reminisce over the great fishing you had at Uchi.

We mustn’t forget the great service - Wasn’t the staff great!!! It was one of my most enjoyable summers yet with so many laughs and unpredictable events. Thank you Bertha, Brenda, Martin and Merv. I look forward to your return.

Have a Great Week everybody and stay posted.

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-81159211825870379382007-10-16T07:30:00.000-07:002007-10-16T07:32:50.524-07:00RECAP OF THE 2007 MOOSE HUNTRob, Larry, myself and two guests by the names of Brad and Bill arrived in Uchi at approx. 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7th one day before the hunt. We spent that first day getting settled in and acquainted with one another, enjoyed a delicious rib eye steak with all the trimmings then called it a night.

Early the next morning was the first day of the hunt in Unit #4, the boats headed off in their separate directions. It wasn’t ten minutes later when Larry and his guest Bill spotted a bull -
nice animal with an approx. rack of 43 inch. Being selective and its his choice, Bill passed up on the opportunity. He felt that it was just too early into the hunt for it to end.

During the next couple of hours Larry and Bill spotted a cow with her calf, Rob and Brad saw another cow and calf in a different location altogether. They all took a short lunch break and returned to their destinations but now in the pouring rain. It wasn’t long till Rob and Brad spotted again three more animals that being a two cows with last year’s bull, standing about 5 miles from the morning’s siting.

Second day was very successful with Rob and Brad spotting a bull, cow and a calf in a bay they had previously called in. Brad took the bull which carried a 41 1/2” rack. Now the work begins in preparing the animal for take home. To date (that being two days into the hunt) the guys have seen 15 different animals.

Third day nothing seen.

Fourth day at 10:25 a.m. Larry and Bill heard a sharp noise sounding like two animals. Since the frost was thick this morning, Larry figured the rut had started. Sure enough, making a few calls and sitting patiently they spotted their game. Bill dropped a bull with a 53 1/2 inch rack. Not bad for the first time hunting on Uchi Lake. Congratulations Gentlemen!!!!

AND THIS IS WHAT THE GUESTS THEMSELVES HAVE TO SAY........

Judy,
I just wanted to say thank you for an excellent experience hunting at Uchi Lake Lodge. As you are aware, my party and I have hunted in Ontario for the past 3 years with another outfitter, and we researched your location thouroughly before agreeing to hunt with you. We can honestly say your lodge blew away the competition, and that our hunting trip was far better than we could have expected. The service of your guides, the food, the cabins, and of course, the wildlife at Uchi was better than we expected it to be. I would be happy to be a reference for you to anyone interested in considering your location for a moose hunt. After seeing over 22 moose in 4 days, compared to 2 - 3 moose over 7 days at the other 3 locations we hunted with other Ontario outfitters, anyone looking for a quality hunt should definately consider Uchi Lake. I have attached a few photos from our camera's for you. Feel free to use them on your webpage if you would like.

Thanks Again
Brad Van Dam + Bill Kellogg

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1171572287482626562007-02-15T12:43:00.000-08:002007-02-15T12:44:47.493-08:00Winter Report:
It's cold here, but wait for spring opening.

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1154300392650479402006-07-30T15:59:00.000-07:002006-07-30T15:59:52.660-07:00Weather

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1154276734692664582006-07-30T09:24:00.000-07:002006-07-30T09:25:34.693-07:00Juy 30th - JUST INName:
Jim Landwehr

Location:
Milwaukee, WI

Comments:
This was my first fishing experience at Uchi, or Canada for that matter.
I've been to the BWCA in MN many times but have never experienced near the
excellent fishing I did at Uchi. A friend and I boated well over 220 fish in
3 days! It was phenomenal. My trophies of the week were a 32" northern and a
25" 6+ lb walleye. They're available at any given moment to ensure our guests at Uchi are more than well taken care of. In between greeting the boats, dishing out bait, preparing shorelunch, filleting fish, working on camp projects, keeping the grounds immaculate they sneak out the odd time for a little fishing of their own.

Mervin Smith has topped everybody so far this season with the largest walleye -----31"-------Yes, thats correct - 31" Walleye.

Guy and Patty not so far behind with a beautiful 29" Walleye and Patty's 26 1/2 " Walleye. July 28th the Case party and Berg family arrive in Uchi. This is the second year for the Case party and the first morning they released a 29 3/4" W, 28 1/4", 27 1/2", 26 1/2" and a 24. No kidding and no lies. So we here at Uchi feel it doesn' t get much better so must be downhill from here. However, in comes Doug for dinner braging about his 28", 26 and 26 1/2" walleyes. If not better, at least the fishing is consistent.

First timer Sam Berg comes back to camp before shorelunch. He just released the largest walleye of his entire life - a whopping 30" Walleye.

Remember this is all in one week. We are fortunate to have Dave Lange and Bob Snyder with us as well. The northerns they were able to measure reached 38", 39" . Now their story about the estimated 44" northern was believable however not measured. This tricky northern broke straight through the bottom of the net.

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1154119466497315662006-07-28T13:43:00.000-07:002006-07-30T08:49:20.620-07:00Stella and Mike - the PRO's are back in town...Stella and Mike Wheat have released 293 walleye (which include two 23 1/2) in the past three days. Depths from 5 feet to 18 feet of water has been the norm. One thing that should be mentioned is that they don’t start fishing till 10 a.m. due to their laziness and their in by 4 p.m. for cocktails - truly acting like tourists!!!!!

Apparently MIke’s net was abducted by another gentleman in camp - only he knows who he is!!! Right Bill? Mike also went for a swim today - a swim that wasn’t planned as he slid right off the ramp.

Believe it or not the ol standard PINK jig is the key to their success. Many were also caught on an orange and brown 2” twister tail which replicates the mayfly. Mayfly hatch is strong today however Mike says didn’t affect fishing at all as he just adjusted his style of fishing. His miethod is to touch the bottom of the lake then let it sit an inch above the bottom, no jigging required. Location seems to be in the middle of the larger bays just off the rock piles in about 9 to 12 feet.

Judy’s cooking the steaks tonight - so its marguerita night - so tasty even in the plastic glass.

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1150152027214022002006-06-12T15:38:00.000-07:002006-06-12T15:40:27.226-07:00SHAD RAP GROUPEisen, Kolling, Diddia and VanSwol - better known as the “Shad Rap Group” started in the mid- 1960’s with Don Eisen and Bill Kolling; the group has been coming to Canada annually ever since.

In 1988 they established a permanent traveling Shad Rap Trophy awarded to the fisherman with the highest total points for fish caught during the week’s fishing. Points are awarded on an increasing basis - based on size beginning with a 20” walleye and a 27” northern.

After 30+ years of drive to resorts and 10 years of fly-in vacations with other outfitters, the group came to Uchi Lake for the first time in 2003. Prior to that time, the highest total points to win the Shad Rap Trophy was 32k. Since coming to Uchi Lake, the point winners have totaled 45, 90 and 89 respectively with this year’s winner yet to be determined.

To date and our trip is not over until Thursday, June 15th our count is as follows:

Don - 29” W, 26” W
Bill - 28” W, 28” W
Ron - 28”W, 28” N
Chuck - 26” W
Tom - 24” W

Our count as of evening of June 11th ( which would be 4 days fishing ) includes 76 walleyes between 20” and 25”............More to come........

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1149977556467795902006-06-10T15:11:00.000-07:002006-06-10T15:12:36.466-07:00IT's A DOUBLE HEADER - Henderson PartyFred hooked a big fish and didn’t know just how big!!!! He told Gary to get the net and before he could, Gary had a fish on as well. The kicker is who gets the net? Luckily for Fred Gary did the honorable thing - released his 21 inch walleye and proceeds to help Fred with a whopping 29 incher....Picture will be posted on the photo gallery page after all proof is in the pudding!!! They both had a fantastic time and it was sad to say farewell to the Henderson party. Phil had a 27”
walleye, 26”, 25”, 24” and is looking for a 28” to close out the straight.

Kevin scored a 27 1/2” walleye for master angler status. Son Josh is so happy his lips are cracking from smiling all day.

Best to Ray who will be joining Uchi in late June. We left a few for you. All fish were returned except shorelunch.

Carl and Dave Fielder boasts a couple of 25” walleyes and a half dozen 24 inchers.

Jims says......FISH ARE ON FIRE....... You just have to be here to appreciate and feel the love for this fishery..........

The Story continues with the Sackett Party - first timers to fish Uchi Lake. Went through 69 dozen minnows and one went artificial. Gordon measured a 28 1/2” walleye. Frank says a lot of them they didn’t bother to measure cause there were so many of them. Not a fisherman’s lie either. Franks released three over 25 inch walleyes and 3 to five during the afternoon hours. Released a lot of 22 inchers.

Ken released three pike over 34 inches. Not bad for first timers - never been on Uchi Lake before. We sure enjoyed their company and hope they return.

Judy Henricksonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00027095390414326865noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11648594.post-1149679358406318432006-06-07T04:19:00.000-07:002006-06-07T04:22:38.416-07:00Walt Corrects JimAccording to Walt, Jim has always had poor math skills.
