[Excerpts] OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine — Authorities say the shooting deaths of a former police officer and his wife, a Unum executive, appear to be a murder-suicide. Maine State Police believe that Bruce Savoy, 55, fatally shot his wife, Stacey Savoy, 50, on Monday afternoon as she returned home from the grocery store, then shot himself. They say he was distraught over the breakup of their marriage of more than 20 years. Police say they found three suicide notes that Bruce Savoy had written, and a handgun alongside the bodies. The Savoys' bodies were discovered by a friend who went to their home Tuesday morning to walk their dogs, Samson and River. The couple and their German shepherds were active in Maine Search and Rescue Dogs; Stacey Savoy was the group's secretary. "I was just shocked," said Sandra Chretien, a neighbor who knew the couple well and had known Stacey Savoy since she was an infant. "She was very, very quiet and smart. Just a lovely girl... They were kind of private"... She was assistant vice president of compensation for the disability insurer, based in Tennessee and Portland. She had been with the company for 28 years... The Savoys were devoted to their dogs, said neighbors, who often saw them walking the German shepherds... The dogs were in the home when the bodies were found, said Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the state police. A friend of the Savoys took the dogs, which were unharmed, and is taking care of them.At the Savoys' home on Pleasant Street, the yard was well-kept Tuesday and the porch was adorned with pumpkins, cornstalks and hanging baskets of impatiens still in bloom. [Excerpts] Stacey E. Savoy, 50 OLD ORCHARD BEACH -- Stacey E. Savoy, 50, of Pleasant Street, in Old Orchard Beach died at her residence later Monday evening. She was born in Biddeford, June 5, 1959, the daughter of Louis and Virginia Day Simpson. Stacey attended and graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1977. While in high school she enjoyed riding horses and received many blue ribbon awards was including the New Hampshire Junior Champion. She was a member of the Hollis Center Baptist Church. Mrs. Savoy was approaching her 29th year with UNUM and was presently an Assistant Vice President of Compensation. Her true love was her family and her dogs and in 2003 she joined the York County Emergency Response Team. Stacey later joined Mesard in 2005 and became their Secretary in 2006. Her dog Sampson is trained as a Wilderness Scent Certified dog and was also being currently trained as a trailing dog. Mrs. Savoy is survived by... [Excerpts] State and Old Orchard Beach police are investigating the deaths of a husband and wife as a murder-suicide.Police said a neighbor who walks the couple's two dogs discovered the bodies of Bruce Savoy, 55, and Stacey Savoy, 50, in the couple's home at 19A Pleasant St. at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday... Police said they found a handgun by the bodies in the kitchen and three suicide notes that police said were written by Bruce Savoy, who cited the pending breakup of his marriage. The couple would have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in January. They grew up in Old Orchard Beach and had no children. Neighbors expressed shock, saying the Savoys were well known for being active with the state's search and rescue dog team... "It's such a tragedy. I just can't even express words. [Excerpts] The death of Stacey Savoy, an insurance executive, at the hands of her husband, a former police officer, shows that domestic violence can strike anywhere, advocates for abuse victims said Wednesday. They also said the case underscores the serious danger people can face at the point when they decide to leave a relationship. Police say Bruce Savoy, a former officer in Old Orchard Beach and Wells who continued to serve as a reserve officer, shot his wife of more than 20 years with his service weapon, a Glock .40-caliber pistol. He then shot himself. Stacey Savoy had told her husband Sunday that she planned to get a divorce... On Wednesday, her family and friends grieved the loss of a beloved woman, someone who was generous without seeking recognition and deeply committed to her work with the Maine Search and Rescue Dogs organization... Savoy was an executive with Unum who traveled often for her job. She also was involved in search-and-rescue missions with her dog, Samson... Although neighbors didn't suspect abuse, they said they seldom saw Stacey Savoy outside the house. COVINGTON, Ky. -- A former Independence firefighter admitted in court on Monday that he tried to kill his wife. Richard Noah appeared before a Kenton County judge to change his original not guilty plea to guilty. Independence Police were called to the couple's home for a domestic violence report in July. Noah told the judge he tried to suffocate his wife with a pillow and a sheet of plastic. He returns to court for sentencing in January. Noah faces up 10-20 years in prison. He submitted a written resignation to the Independence Fire Department shortly after his arrest. [LINK]

Gearhart caught up with her and the two wrestled in a ditch full of water, she told deputies. Montgomery County Sheriff Phil Plummer told The Dayton Daily News that Gearhart tried to drown her... Gearhart, of Circleville, was dismissed from his job as a Columbus police officer in September 2008 after an incident several months before. In June 2008, Circleville police charged Gearhart with falsification and menacing after a fight with his stepfather and his stepsister's boyfriend. The charges eventually were dropped after Gearhart completed a diversion program... But an internal Columbus police investigation as a result of the Circleville case found that Gearhart had misused a police computer system, and that led to his firing... The PROSECUTOR agrees to charge Bridgeport Police Officer Samuel Leon with breach of peace instead of domestic violence assault. The MEDIA gives no clue and asks no question regarding what happened to the first domestic violence related charge last February. If the prosecutor and the media (and the police department, police union, and likely the judge) are FOR Officer Leon, who can prevail against him if he commits a violent crime?

Who voices the concern for safety of the alleged victim?

Oh happy day for battering cops - my computer is crashing

I'm smiling. Any one person can only do what they can do - until they can't. I haven't posted in a week because my computer is crashing (smashing) so I've been fighting it to keep it on and to try to get it to correctly transfer many gigabytes of officer-involved dv info onto disks. Sigh. My online time is limited and unpredictable - so I'm going from many hours a day down to minutes. I will see what I can do.
I have no regrets. I've done well.

The department's internal investigation into the incident should be completed soon, now that the criminal case is over, Police Chief Aric Wheeler said Friday... The May incident marked the third time LeBlanc — who most recently headed the department's property crimes unit — has been charged with domestic violence since 2004. He entered the Metro Court's Domestic Violence Early Intervention Program in February 2008 after he was charged with misdemeanor battery on a household member for allegedly punching his estranged wife... He successfully completed the year-long program, after which the charges were dismissed... The victim in the latest incident was LeBlanc's mother... The officer's mother was not cooperative with prosecutors... LeBlanc was charged with battery on a household member in 2004 in Rio Rancho... He allegedly used an "arm bar" — also known as a "law enforcement escort technique"... [Excerpts] At least four area law enforcement agencies would remove a police officer from active duty if the officer was charged with domestic violence. However, Santa Fe Police Chief Eric Johnson said Friday that he was sticking with his decision to let his department's head of burglary/narcotics, Sgt. Michael LeBlanc, continue working despite being charged with misdemeanor battery on a household member this week in Albuquerque... "I have placed some restrictions on him, but I can't talk about them because of personnel issues." LeBlanc, 34, was charged Monday in Metropolitan Court in Albuquerque based on an argument with his wife July 27. An Albuquerque police officer took pictures of bruises on LeBlanc's wife's arm and thigh from that incident... Also, court records show LeBlanc was charged with battery on a household member and assault on a household member in Sandoval County Magistrate Court in 2004. He received a deferred sentence at that time, and the charges were dismissed six months later... LeBlanc was not arrested either time he was charged with domestic violence...

LeBlanc, who denied making the threat or brandishing a weapon, was given a deferred sentence at the time and after six months the charges were dismissed... LeBlanc replaced Sgt. Steve Altonji, who was put on leave early this year after the U.S. Attorney's Office notified Santa Fe police that Altonji was the target of a federal grand jury investigation at the beginning of the year, The New Mexican said. LeBlanc's wife told Albuquerque police that she was afraid of him because he had hit her in the past and that he, as an officer, had weapons inside the home...

The incident marked the second time since 2004 that LeBlanc has been accused of a crime against a household member... LeBlanc was charged with battery on a household member and assault on a household member in Sandoval County Magistrate Court after a February 2004 incident involving LeBlanc and the mother of his older daughter. LeBlanc said the girl's mother was not providing an appropriate home for his daughter and forced the woman off his property... Charges were later dropped in that case after LeBlanc received a six-month deferred sentence. [Excerpts] The state Law Enforcement Academy is investigating the head of the Santa Fe Police Department's property crimes unit for two incidents of domestic violence since 2004. That's according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Peter Olson, who said Wednesday that Sgt. Michael LeBlanc's police officer certification could be revoked by the Law Enforcement Academy Board if the allegations are substantiated... Because the previous domestic violence charge against LeBlanc was dismissed after six months and he received a deferred sentence, he is considered a first-time offender... Santa Fe Police Chief Eric Johnson said Wednesday that his staff is in the process of obtaining the paperwork about LeBlanc's case, and the police chief didn't yet know how the department will deal with it... Johnson took no action against LeBlanc in August when the charge was filed despite the fact a domestic violence hearing officer issued a yearlong restraining order requiring LeBlanc to stay away from his estranged wife. Those with protection orders against them cannot carry firearms, though federal law contains an exception for law-enforcement officers, Santa Fe's domestic-violence hearing officer Margaret Kegel has said. LeBlanc was charged with battery on a household member in 2004 as well... At that time,
LeBlanc refused to return his daughter to her mother because he felt she wasn't providing an appropriate home environment... I hope this lawsuit drives facts from under the rug out into the light..It's hard to take - this defense of "OTHER officers can commit domestic violence- so why can't I?" logic. But I'm also interested to see if a little of how Utah works regarding officer-involved domestic violence policy - or non-policy - will be revealed.

Fieeiki claims he had no run-ins with the law aside from the single domestic violence arrest in 2003, for which he and his wife received counseling. "Between 1998 and 2005, fifteen (15) Department employees were charged with similar criminal action... [Excerpts] ...[Former Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Stanley] Fieeiki alleges that of 11 officers charged with domestic violence crimes, all were either suspended or issued letters of reprimand. Fieeiki had worked for UHP for almost five years when he was charged with domestic violence and domestic violence in the presence of a child after he struck his wife, the lawsuit states. It said he hit her out of self-defense as she attacked him in his sleep, but also said they reconciled. Fieeiki was eventually convicted of simple assault, a class B misdemeanor. The complaint contrasts the incident with those of two other "non-Polynesian officers" who were involved in seemingly more severe or repeat offenses... "In my understanding he was terminated due to the domestic violence that occurred, and it had nothing to do with race, color or religion," [Public safety spokesman Jeff] Nigbur said. Officer Michael Dion, 31, 804 Jackson St., Thibodaux, surrendered Friday and was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux on counts of domestic abuse battery, aggravated assault with a firearm and sexual battery, deputies said in a statement. His arrest followed a joint investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and Thibodaux Police Department... Angie Renne Clark, 40, of Broadway had been on paid administrative leave from her job since the night of June 10 when she allegedly shot her husband Michael Lawrence Clark, 44, during a domestic altercation. The case was investigated by the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office... Mrs. Clark turned herself in to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning after her indictment by the Harnett County Grand Jury Monday on an open count of murder. Open count murder is a charge encompassing both first- or second-degree murder... It was during Mrs. Clark’s appearance that new details emerged about the incident — including that Mrs. Clark, who was off duty at the time, allegedly used her service weapon. A Milwaukee firefighter will go to trial on charges that he drugged his wife's tea. Michael Dunn pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a charge of placing foreign objects in edibles. Court officials found there is enough evidence for him to stand trial. Police said Dunn put an anti-depressant in his wife's drink following an argument. McKinley County Sheriff's Deputy Elrino Henio was allegedly attacked by his wife at their Thoreau-area home around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, The Gallup Herald reported. According to the transcript of a 911 call, Henio said his wife struck him in the back of the head with a baseball bat after accusing him of hitting their daughter, The Herald said. Henio, who is a sniper with the sheriff's office SWAT team, also alleged that his wife locked him out of their house where his weapons were kept, the paper reported. "Deputy Henio's wife was taken into custody by the Navajo Nation Police, who are handling the investigation," Sheriff Frank Gonzales told The Herald. The Navajo Nation Police Crownpoint Division, which is handling the investigation, hadn't returned phone calls for comment on whether Henio's wife had been charged, the paper reported. [LINK]

[Excerpts] A charge of domestic violence against an Elko County sheriff’s deputy was dismissed last month during a trial. Acting Justice of the Peace Terri Feasel dismissed a charge of battery constituting domestic violence or, in the alternative, battery, against Jon Ames during his Oct. 2 trial. District Attorney Gary Woodbury argued the case because the defendant is a member of law enforcement. He said Tuesday he could not comment on Feasel’s decision to dismiss the charge against Ames after hearing the prosecution’s case because “I did not understand the dismissal myself”... At the time of Ames’ arrest, Gailey said the sheriff’s office could still do its own internal investigation if he was found not guilty. However, the sheriff’s office has decided not to investigate. An off-duty Wahkiakum County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Sunday morning in Longview on allegations of domestic assault. Longview police said Joshua Dan Grasseth, 31, Cathlamet, admitted pulling his wife by the arm when he found her in their vehicle with another man around 4:26 a.m. Sunday in the 1400 block of 17th Avenue. Grasseth and the other man then fought and both sustained injuries, police said. Police issued Grasseth a citation for fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), a misdemeanor. He made his first court appearance Monday and was found eligible for a court-appointed attorney, despite having a combined monthly household income of $4,900. The Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office has placed Grasseth on paid administrative leave while his case is adjudicated in Cowlitz County... [Full article here]

Sonja Darai, director of Somerville commissions, said Sullivan’s proposed policy sends a strong message about the city’s desire to fight domestic violence, but will take some work to come to fruition. Through her work with the Somerville Commission on Women, Darai said she has started looking at how to implement a policy such as the one Sullivan suggested. [Excerpts] Prosecutors have dismissed their case against a former Moncks Corner police officer who was accused of asking his fellow officers to help plant drugs and guns in his ex-girlfriend's vehicle in 2005... The alleged victim in the case told prosecutors she did not want to testify at trial against former officer Jerry Reynolds... Reynolds, 62, said he felt vindicated by the prosecutor's decision. "To me, this was a set-up," he said. "They never had witnesses. They had nothing." State Law Enforcement Division agents arrested Reynolds in October 2005 on a charge of official misconduct by a police officer. Investigators accused him of approaching fellow officers with a plan to put illegal drugs or possibly a stolen gun in his ex-girlfriend's Jeep. Reynolds and the ex-girlfriend, [NMK], have a 5-year-old son together... Reynolds has said the idea of planting evidence came up in passing, as something of a joke... A stolen gun and illegal drugs, however, were found in [NMK]'s Jeep one morning in April 2005... No one was charged with planting evidence in the case; the charges related only to a plan that was discussed, not carried out... Reynolds, who works in loss prevention for Super Kmart in North Charleston, said he doesn't know if he will try to return to law enforcement. MONCKS CORNER - Jerry Reynolds chafes at the suggestion that he might have committed a crime when he and former colleagues at the Moncks Corner Police Department discussed planting evidence in his ex-girlfriend's car... Last year, [NMK] swore out a warrant against Reynolds, accusing him of violating a restraining order. Reynolds said that charge was dismissed and later expunged. On Oct. 28, 2005, State Law Enforcement Division agents arrested Reynolds on the misconduct charge at [NMK]'s mother's home as he went to pick up their son for a weekend visit... The charge was based on statements by other Moncks Corner police officers that Reynolds approached them "about planting evidence in the car of his ex-girlfriend"... A Berkeley County sheriff's deputy responded to [NMK]'s Ladson home on the morning of April 19, 2005. She told the deputy she found a handgun and a bag of what police later determined to be marijuana under the seat, after having cleaned out the car the night before, an incident report states. The deputy wrote that the items appeared staged... The deputy retrieved the marijuana and the semiautomatic handgun, as well as bags with white powder that tested positive for cocaine, the report states. He notified the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives because the gun's serial number had been removed... "Why would I be singled out as the only person who would put things in her car?" Reynolds asked... Before joining the Moncks Corner Police Department, Reynolds was a Berkeley County sheriff's deputy... Reynolds resigned from Moncks Corner 10 days before his arrest by SLED. He said he knew the state agency was investigating him and thought it would be best to resign before any arrest. Moncks Corner Police Chief Chad Caldwell has said Reynolds had an "excellent" record with the department... Last week, Reynolds said he hoped his day in court would arrive soon. Deputy Solicitor Blair Jennings said Reynolds' case is scheduled to go before a grand jury next month.

A veteran New Orleans police officer already facing a domestic battery charge is now accused of raping a woman June 30 after arresting her at gunpoint and taking her away in his squad car to a warehouse off Tchoupitoulas Street. Officer Henry L. Hollins, 46, drove the woman to the intersection of Tchoupitoulas and Felicity streets "where he completely disrobed and raped the victim while she remained in handcuffs," according to an application for an arrest warrant signed Friday at 3 p.m. by a magistrate commissioner... Hollins had not been arrested as of 6 p.m. Friday. His attorney said Hollins was preparing to surrender to police Friday evening. The arrest warrant application, prepared and signed by Howard Robertson, an investigator for the Orleans Parish district attorney's office, accuses Hollins of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated rape... Hollins, a 12-year police veteran, was booked with domestic abuse battery Aug. 18 after punching his wife in the mouth "with a closed fist," according to an arrest report. An estranged Miami-Dade couple are dead after a fight late Thursday that ended in gunfire. Police were called to a "woman in distress" at a home in the 19000 block of Northwest 57th Avenue, authorities said. Police identified the dead as Natasha Murph, 35, and Clifford Murph, 36. Police found Clifford Murph dead at the home after the 10 p.m. call. Natasha was taken to a local hospital, where she died. The early investigation "reveals the male and female were an estranged couple who were engaged in a dispute that escalated to gunfire," Miami-Dade Detective Roy Rutland wrote in a release. ...The procession, which began later than the scheduled starting time of 9 a.m., will wind through several Seattle streets before reaching KeyArena at around noon. The memorial for Brenton is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Among those scheduled to speak at the memorial service are Interim Seattle Police Chief John Diaz, Mayor Greg Nickels, Gov. Christine Gregoire and Brenton's sister-in-law, Jennifer Crigger. [Seattle Police Officer Timothy] Brenton and student officer Britt Sweeney, 33, were parked on 29th Avenue, just north of East Yesler Way just after 10 p.m. Saturday when someone pulled up next to their patrol car and opened fire. Brenton was killed instantly and Sweeney suffered minor wounds... She was able to get out of the car and fire at the vehicle, which backed up and sped away. Though tips continue to pour in and investigators are putting in long days tracking every bit of information, Assistant Police Chief Jim Pugel said that detectives haven't identified a suspect. [Excerpts] A former Peoria police officer faces up to seven years in prison for allegedly trespassing at his estranged wife's house and taking a laptop computer from a man who was there. Clayton Glasper, 45, who is listed as homeless, appeared in Peoria County Circuit Court on Monday, charged with burglary and criminal trespass to a residence, both felonies... Court records indicate he allegedly broke out a screen window and struggled with his wife. He allegedly closed a window on her hand, causing minor injuries. He fled but later returned to the house, where he was arrested. Police, in checking the house, found the other man's car had been burglarized. Missing was a laptop computer, which was allegedly found in Glasper's car. Glasper, who had served 20 years on Peoria's police force, lost his job in April after accusations of improperly touching women. City Hall has never given a specific reason why the officer was fired. In 2006, the city settled a federal lawsuit for $21,000 in which Glasper also was accused of improperly touching a woman. [Full article here]

[Excerpts] Police and the city of Peoria on Wednesday did not disclose reasons for the firing of a 20-year veteran of the police force a day earlier. It was unclear if multiple allegations he fondled women caused the termination of Clayton Glasper, 44, on Tuesday... On Wednesday, the Journal Star also learned details of a 2006 lawsuit in U.S. District Court in which Glasper was accused of improperly touching a woman. According to City Attorney Randy Ray, that suit was officially resolved in September 2006, after the City Council on Aug. 22 of that year agreed to pay $21,000 to settle, with Glasper agreeing to reimburse the city $3,000... In the 2006 case, a Peoria woman alleged Glasper touched her body "in a sexually aggressive manner, without her permission" on June 14, 2004, while on duty... The woman said Glasper followed her to a parking garage, made comments about her body, asked questions about her underwear and eventually attempted to lift her skirt... The woman said she continually tried to fend him off, but he got onto an elevator with her and followed her to her car, repeatedly touching her body and eventually pinning her against her car. After asking if she wanted to "get together sometime," she said Glasper finally removed himself from the path of her car door and she drove away. The complaint filed by the woman's attorney included a section titled "Glasper's Previous Conduct," in which the city is accused of continuing to employ Glasper after knowledge of a previous incident in which "Glasper was accused of inappropriate sexual behavior by a female in Peoria County prior to the Attack." The complaint indicates the city took disciplinary action against Glasper but "continued to uniform and arm Glasper." The woman's attorney indicated in court papers that Glasper was suspended without pay for 30 days but faced no further punishment after the incident involving his client in the parking garage. In a 2008 incident at Elliott's, a cabaret at 7807 N. University St., Glasper also was accused of fondling a woman... [Full article here]
