GTA IV comes out today kids, but you already knew that. Jack Thompson is on the rampage again. You probably already guessed that. Hot coffee? Nah, he doesn't need that this time around. This time, IGN supplies the juice by means of pre-release vid. There's nothing really here that wasn't in the others except it is ratcheted up a notch and shown back to back. Hookers and strippers, hit and runs and drive bys. Nothing here to see kids.

I'm a free speech kinda guy but honestly, I really hope that when the newsies write their inevitable stories tomorrow about how the games biz is taking Hollyw00t for a ride, they don't have too many lines about how we are destroying the yewts. Hate to say Jack is right, kinda, but this stuff really ain't for kids. I'm pretty sure I'll get an extra day in heck for saying that.Gophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628193.post-2720659573088966192008-04-23T11:24:00.003-05:002008-04-23T11:33:27.665-05:00Campaign StatsWe've been mulling over the campaigns and some upcoming rule changes in the office as we are wont to do and Bloo put together some nice charts I though I would share. The info from these is readily available at Battleground Tools.

Victories:

Average Campaign Length: All-Time: 36 Days
Moving Average Currently: ~42 Days

All-Time Total: 49
Axis: 29 (60%)
Allied: 19 (39%)
Truce: 1 (2%)
(Percentages rounded)

Last 10 Campaigns (back to 2/21/2007, during which 1.25 was released):
Axis: 3 (30%)
Allied: 6 (60%)
Truce: 1 (10%)

This shows the winners and losers of each of the campaigns and how long they lasted. We use this to cross check with RDP cycle times and what not and of course look for trends. Of course charts can;t ever tell the whole tale as they don;t cover things like morale but they are interesting. Longer campaigns tend to be won by the Axis. Shorter campaigns tend to be won by the Axis. Since ToEs the Allies have had their first real strings of victories. I love pondering these types of numbers. What are your thoughts?

Thanks to Bloo for the data.Gophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628193.post-52324894849743718402008-04-17T11:57:00.001-05:002008-04-17T12:11:06.228-05:0020 Reasons Not to Play D&D 4eThe guys at Topless Robot have an awesome take on some of the changes for DD4E. I'll be on Giga TV this afternoon (night for you eoros) talking about BE or WWIIOL or whatever you wish to call this massively multi-player online first-person shooter strategy role playing game (MMO, MMOFPS, MMORPG ?) that we all so dearly love to live and breath.

I have no idea what they will ask me. I have no idea what the program format is like to be. I have no idea how to actually watch this from the office in Bedford...

What I do know is that for a small independent game developer and defacto publisher this is huge. I also know that Greni and Hofnarr will be on set to show off the game. Drop by and show a little love if you can. We small time indies need all the help we can get in spreading the word and it's nice to see the big guys taking a little time out to give us a bit of press.

MMORPG.COMGophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628193.post-84514713278682977762008-01-28T10:56:00.000-06:002008-01-28T10:56:08.702-06:00Don't Stop Believin'The hype machine that is SL is in a constant state of "amaze". Journey was one of the heroes of my youth. I still make others suffer to their tunes whenever I find a jukebox cheesy enough to have them rockin. News today is not about the upcoming new album but even better, they are making an island in SL!

After the many tales of failed corporate spaces and flying penises I think we may finally have a winner here for the "virtual world that everyone loves but no one visits".

Even better, the group that has designed their web site for years is leading the design. Seriously, hit the link if you want to see the train wreck that will be.

Even way more better, Journey has picked up a new lead singer. Off the you tubes! From a cover band!! In the Philippines!1eleventy!

I think I may need to take the afternoon off work, get a jean jacket and a rusty Camaro and see if that wheel in the sky still keeps on turnin'.

LinkGophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628193.post-71284321820219503802008-01-26T13:03:00.001-06:002008-01-26T13:09:08.031-06:0010k Words PLUS!
Thanks eigenman!Gophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628193.post-56185243848574475242008-01-15T12:05:00.000-06:002008-01-16T09:54:21.337-06:00News: Star Trek Online Goes Bye ByeI'm not sure any one is surprised at this news. STO was a very difficult design to begin with and coupled with the recent news that Perpetual had already dropped their in house MMO in favor of STO didn't give fans much to hold on to. Now they've dropped this in favor of going into casual games. Hmm.

i'll go out on a limb here and suggest that while WoW has made a new genre of the MMO in the eyes of many, these games are very big and very hard to make and we're going to continue to see more failures than launches and I still don;t see anything on the horizon that will beat WoW. Sure I've heard across the conference table from a certain company that their IP "can kick WoW's ass!". Uh, no. It can't. Sorry.

Oh I ramble. Cheer up Trekkies! There's gonna be 3 Spock's in the next movie. Too bad you'll never get to meet them online. maybe that's a good thing. You probably met Darth in that "other game". What a let down...

WarCry NetworkGophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11628193.post-90516706825808464272008-01-14T17:24:00.000-06:002008-01-14T17:24:53.593-06:00Quake II in 360? Hellz Yeah! This is definitely way up there on the coolest things ever list. If you haven't seen his then I hope it helps make up for my lack of posting lately. She said yes in case you didn't get the announcements we sent out and that means the house shopping and wedding planning are already in full swing. Ugh! the good news is that we might have a pool party this summer. The bad of course is that I have no time to blog atm. Probably just as well. Between Lum, Damion and Ryan you've pretty much got the scene covered. ok well maybe not Damion, looks like he's buying a house as well. Grats Yo! (He barely knows me so don't think I'm name dropping, I just really dig what the guy has to say on design)

YouTube - QUAKE III ARENA 360 PANORAMIC VR INSTALLATIONGophurhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06369045217263456428noreply@blogger.com
