The project took off easily and turned out pretty well. I still find it amazing the things we can bring to the web.Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-63371186087616674502007-10-11T18:16:00.000-04:002007-10-11T18:25:13.553-04:00Not a good dayA new customer T3 turn up went very wrong yesterday. It did really bad things to our network (not customer fault .. ILEC misconfiguration.) We spent all night and half the morning fixing routes, etc. Lesson: Filter first. Ask questions later.Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-87698893059280306442007-04-27T12:56:00.001-04:002007-04-27T12:57:00.912-04:00Denial of Service Attack4/27/07Denial of Service AttackBayou Internet and Communications was the recipient of a Distributed Denial of Service attack this morning which interrupted most services to our customers for up to 1 hour. This DDOS attack was delivered from thousands of locations making it very difficult to stop. Bayou System Administrators worked with router and I.p. technicians throughout the country to Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-73385815016048424192007-03-30T11:53:00.000-04:002007-03-30T12:32:18.142-04:00Vista UpgradeI took the plunge to Microsoft Vista this week. I say this week because i spent the better part of 3 days redoing my machine. It was a long task but so far has worked out. While I really saw no compelling reasons to upgrade from XP to Vista I decided it was time. It's been out for a month now and I might have customers asking me about it.My machine was starting to run alittle slow. I install and Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-53248172523967069912007-03-27T09:40:00.000-04:002007-03-27T09:48:20.166-04:00Offsite BackupI added a new feature rescently to Bayou's line up. It allows customers to back up their data safely and securely to one of Bayou's large servers. We provide easy to use backup software. The difference is that in stead of creating the encrypted files on the customer machine it transfers it through the Internet to Bayou where it is stored. Need a file? Just drag and drop. It's also one more level Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-36100552723900372972007-03-23T13:59:00.000-04:002007-03-23T14:02:34.262-04:00Fiber Capacity AddedBayou will be adding fiber capacity this weekend. You may see short time periods of service interruptions as we turn up on the new services. We promise to keep it as short as possible.Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-44118250864289742842007-03-23T13:55:00.000-04:002007-03-23T13:59:50.326-04:00Added Spam FilteringCustomers may have noticed an increase in the amount of spam or slower than normal email delivery the past 2 days. In efforts to better handle denial of service attacks and the shere volume of spam Bayou has added more spam filtering servers. They went online at lunch today. It will take a bit of time for all records to update but you should begin to see the results soon. Sparks and grass fire but nothing serious. The power bump put us in backup generator mode. Unfortunately that can stop lines that hunt down from one line to the next from rolling down. Calls would "beep" instead.Hunting lines are now repaired unless the call waiting feature is requested.Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-1170256501442152562007-01-31T10:12:00.000-05:002007-01-31T17:28:31.496-05:00Voice Server UpgradesI upgraded the voip / voice server software over the past two days. I am not finding any instances of echo anymore.I also found documentation that there is a incorrect firmware setting in some of the Cisco / Linksys / Sipura terminal adapters that causes incorrect rtp packet size. A firmware upgrade corrects this problem.Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-1148419245707951962006-05-23T17:16:00.000-04:002007-02-07T04:43:28.850-05:00Fiber CutA road construction crew repaving Hudson Lane cut through some telcom fiber this morning. This will allow tenants in the building to have access to the Bayou suite of products (data, voice, etc.) as well as act as another point other customers can point antennas to to gain access to our network. The building management made it very easy for us to locate on top of their building and Jerry Scrogginhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06054436660492816618noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11579789.post-1130362454603157862005-10-26T17:22:00.000-04:002006-03-16T18:25:06.003-04:00Convention in Santa Clara Last week I was in Santa Clara, California for the annual Internet Service Provider Convention.I got to spend some time with Paul Rice, President of FISPA.Myself, Paul Vingiello (my Operations Manager) and the Aussie, Steven Baxter, President of Pipe Networks of Australia left Silicon Valley for San Francisco. We got some wind and rain. Power went out briefly at the NOC. Not long enough for the generator to power up fully.Lafayette POP had no problems. We stayed up, however power outages caused customer side issues. We were there. The customers didnt have power to connect though. Our wireless system here in Monroe did wonderfully.
