I decided to get my gear ready and sneak out to the beach for a couple of casts on Mother's Day (yes, i was back in time for the proper celebration). Anyway, as I was getting my gear together I noticed my big reel wasn't feeling right and really needed a clean! Oh man, I was not prepared! So, I grabbed my little rod with 12lb test on the reel and headed for Ditch Plains beach around 5am.

I was working th jetty and vacinity for about an hour. Another guy showed up and fished the jetty as well. I had no hits so I worked my way west towards the cliffs. The tide just started going out and I started hitting schoolie stripers with a plain white bucktail (no rind). Well, it was great with the light pole. The fish were small but plentiful...nothing bigger than about 25". I had about 20 landed in an hour and a half.

A great morning. Oh, and by the way, if you didn't get the hint...the bass are here! We should start seeing boats take fish in the rips anyday now.

Capt.
