a charity which has been funding research into stem cells - has won conditional approval to start the trials on paraplegic volunteers.

The trials will cost $2m, though the society has no government funding for them.

"I now believe it will be in my lifetime that people will go into hospital with a spinal injury and walk out a few months later just as though they'd experienced a broken leg,"' Spinal Cord Society chairwoman Noela Vallis said tonight.

Society spokesman Tony Edmonds said it was preparing additional information requested for a Multi-Region Ethics Committee meeting in Wellington next month at which he was confident of receiving full approval.

He said other programmes overseas had convinced a growing number of medical experts that an effective treatment for spinal cord injuries was getting much closer.

Mr Edmonds said at least a dozen New Zealand labs were researching non-embryonic adult stem cells for conditions such as brain injury and arthritis.

The procedure to be applied in New Zealand had been carried out overseas in countries such as Portugal, Italy, Japan and China on well over 100 people with few negative side-effects and varying degrees of improvement for each patient.

This had included recovering bowel and bladder-function, through to extra feeling and movement in limbs.

The procedure involves extracting nerve tissue from a volunteer's nose and inserting this into the injured area of the spinal cord.
Ms Vallis said the procedure offered no controversy over the source of cells because it involved a transfer of the patient's own cells.
"It's similar to a skin graft, so there is no need for complex anti-rejection drugs," she said.

"While doctors in other countries have actually made a start with these procedures, we have made use of the delays here, to continue studying the behavior of human cells in our lab," she said.
"We are probably ahead of other countries in this knowledge."
Dr Jim Faed, the cell biologist and haematologist who manages the society's research programme and who will lead the clinical research team to undertake the trial operations, said there was still much to learn about the cell behavior.

"The clinical trial we have planned, and the expected future trials, will help advance that understanding," he said.

Doctors were confident that the first trial was the right step to take in moving to human research, as it will go further than research overseas and collect important information about the mechanisms for improvement.

Dr Faed said if the operations confirm results found overseas while clarifying other key points identified by the research team, the society would be well placed to carry out trials of enhanced procedures.

Ms Vallis set up the society in 1991 to seek a cure for her husband's spinal injury, though he has since died.

"We are poised to bring possibly the greatest medical breakthrough in a century and we are doing it as a charitable organization," she said. "We will need financial support".

Loved Ones…give some thought to how Americans treat other Americans and you will obtain some insight into how the rest of this planet views America.

You and all your loved ones are always in my prayers,
Samuel Joseph Bell
www.angelicinfusion.com

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-9478571882467999912008-11-18T03:38:00.000-08:002008-11-18T03:48:06.494-08:00In our country 36.2 million adults and children struggled with hungerLoved Ones...your brain receives input from your mind....which in turn receives input from our Source and Destiny....Mother and Father God....

The health of you brain impacts its ability to function...

The young brain is most sensitive to lack of nutrients as it is rapidly growing and expanding during these earliest years...

Loved Ones...consider what lack of food does to this nation and its future as some 691,000 children went hungry in America sometime in 2007, while close to one in eight Americans struggled to feed themselves adequately even before this year's sharp economic downtown, the Agriculture Department reported Monday.

The department's annual report on food security showed that during 2007 the number of children who suffered a substantial disruption in the amount of food they typically eat was more than 50 percent above the 430,000 in 2006 and the largest figure since 716,000 in 1998.

Overall, the 36.2 million adults and children who struggled with hunger during the year was up slightly from 35.5 million in 2006. That was 12.2 percent of Americans who didn't have the money or assistance to get enough food to maintain active, healthy lives.

Almost a third of those, 11.9 million adults and children, went hungry at some point. That figure has grown by more than 40 percent since 2000.

The government says these people suffered a substantial disruption in their food supply at some point and classifies them as having "very low food security." Until the government rewrote its definitions two years ago, this group was described as having "food insecurity with hunger."

The findings should increase pressure to meet President-elect Barack Obama's campaign pledge to expand food aid and end childhood hunger by 2015, said James Weill, president of the Food Research and Action Center, an anti-hunger group.

He predicted the 2008 numbers will show even more hunger because of the sharp economic downturn this year.

"There's every reason to think the increases in the number of hungry people will be very, very large based on the increased demand we're seeing this year at food stamp agencies, emergency kitchens, Women, Infants and Children clinics, really across the entire social service support structure," said James Weill, president of the Food Research and Action Center, an anti-hunger group.

Weill said the figures show that economic growth during the first seven years of the Bush administration didn't reach the poorest and hungriest people. "The people in the deepest poverty are suffering the most," Weill said.

The number of adults and children with "low food security" — those who avoided substantial food disruptions but still struggled to eat — fell slightly since 2000, from 24.7 million to 24.3 million. The government said these people have several ways of coping — eating less varied diets, obtaining food from emergency kitchens or community food charities, or participating in federal aid programs like food stamps, the school lunch program or the Women, Infants and Children program.

Among other findings:

_The families with the highest rates of food insecurity were headed by single mothers (30.2 percent), black households (22.2 percent), Hispanic households (20.1 percent), and households with incomes below the official poverty line (37.7 percent).

_States with families reporting the highest prevalence of food insecurity during 2005-2007 were Mississippi (17.4 percent), New Mexico (15 percent), Texas (14.8 percent) and Arkansas (14.4 percent).

_The highest growth in food insecurity over the last 9 years came in Alaska and Iowa, both of which saw a 3.7 percent increase in families who struggled to eat adequately or had substantial food disruptions.

Loved Ones...each of us can help...do not waste food...share what you have...it is not what we want or say or desire that counts...it is what we do that counts....

When you pass on and go up the Light...enter into heaven...no one will ask how many cars you had...or what designer clothes you owned...no one will ask how much money you made...all anybody will want to know is who you loved and how you loved them.

You and all your loved ones are always in my prayers,

Samuel Joseph Bell
www.angelicinfusion.com

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-69100170677748441962008-09-25T14:33:00.000-07:002008-09-25T14:38:06.981-07:00The technology is a powerful medical and research tool for scientists.Loved Ones…in my country of New Zealand...which I dearly love is a small Hamilton-based IT company NetValue which expects a huge boost in international sales as a result of Microsoft taking an interest in its specialist high-performance search technology.

Loved Ones…health and healing technologies benefit all of us…Americans, New Zealanders, North Koreans, Palestinians, Iraqis, French, Asians, Africans, Eskimos, and Israelis.

So it is most important these technologies progress with petitions and prayers from all of us.

After seeing NetValue's ground-breaking technology for super-fast genetic searching and analysis, Microsoft has given the Waikato company access to its global marketing and sales network.

Microsoft announced on Tuesday it was conferring a rare "high-potential managed independent software vendor partner" status on NetValue, making it one of only about 400 companies worldwide Microsoft takes a special interest in grooming for success.
NetValue is the only New Zealand software company to make it into the high-potential group.

The announcement was made at Microsoft's High Performance on Wall Street Conference in New York, where Microsoft showcased a new specialist server operating system, Windows HPC Server 2008.

NetValue has also been named a Microsoft high-performance computing partner and the conference included a demonstration of NetValue's Slim Search genomic searching technology which allows gene research and analysis to be done at ultra-fast speeds without the need for supercomputers.

NetValue chief executive Graham Gaylard, who was in New York for the announcement, said the company sent details of its high-performance search technology to Microsoft last year, but thought little more about it until "we got the big call out of the blue" in May.

"They said: 'We really like your software and it fits in with a couple of directions we're going in as a company.' So we shot up to Redmond [Microsoft's Washington base] and talked to them and they told us they'd put us in this [high-potential] group."

Gaylard said the top-tier status would give NetValue unparalleled access to Microsoft's global sales and marketing network, which he expected would provide a huge boost to the business.

"We give them a competitive advantage and they give us an instant credibility. It's definitely a win-win."

NetValue, which was established in 2004 and has a staff of 40, is gearing up for business expansion as global interest in its technology grows.

Gaylard spent last week in California talking to IT venture capitalists and said he expected interest from potential investors to be even stronger in the wake of the Microsoft partnership announcement.

While the company plans to open a US office, to be closer to major markets and funding sources, he says it will remain headquartered in Hamilton.

"Once we complete the funding rounds we're going through at the moment, the research and development will be ramped up in New Zealand," Gaylard said.

Interest in genomic searching and the comparative analysis of different genomes continues to grow. The technology is a powerful medical and research tool for scientists.

"It's all heading towards personalised medicine where everyone's going to get their genomes sequenced," Gaylard said.

Given the massive amounts of data involved in genomic analysis, the development of technology to enable fast searching on a cluster of standard computers, rather than using expensive supercomputers, is seen as a significant breakthrough.

"With all that information you need high-speed search technologies," Gaylard said. "We certainly have that. In fact we don't talk about time on the cluster any more; we just say our searches are real-time."

The algorithms behind NetValue's Slim Search were originally developed by listed New Zealand technology company Genesis Research and Development in 2004. Slim is an acronym for Sequence Location Indexer and Matcher.

When Genesis disbanded its bioinformatics team, the intellectual property was sold to a new company, Cartesian Gridspeed. NetValue purchased Cartesian Gridspeed this year.

Genesis said this week it retained an "economic interest" in Slim Search which included royalties on licensing revenue from the software.

You and all your loved ones are always in my prayers,
Samuel Joseph Bell
www.angelicinfusion.com

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-34034212655642306992008-06-08T11:05:00.000-07:002008-06-08T11:08:47.745-07:00inside of you is a teeny tiny indwelling Christ Loved Ones…the word god…g…o…d…is a creation of the created….

honestly to fully understand and know God is beyond the comprehension of mortals.

The closest I can go to describing our Divine Source is ….you know the love you have for your children…that unconditional love…that love you could not stop even if you tried…take that love…that unconditional love and multiply it out to were it becomes the very real power which propels this planet earth around the sun…and then you are just to begin to get an idea of what God really is…

…just a super duper unconditional love energy which is really really powerful…so powerful it is beyond comprehension…biggie big big love for you and me and everyone incarnated at this moment.

Trust me when I tell you…that this unconditional love is what created you and is what created Our Lord Jesus the Christ….Our Lord could handle and understand this super unconditional love while He was still in the form of a physical incarnate….it would be like have a nuclear weapon go off inside a gold fish and the gold fish is not affected negatively….that is how wonderful...how powerful... one is coming...Iraq/Iran/North Korea are readyLoved ones the reality is… there is 62% probability of a strong earthquake striking the greater San Francisco Bay Region..

Loved Ones…read the following and take time to give some thought how quickly your life can change….not to be the same again….ever in your life time…

Drawing on new data and new methodologies, the Working Group on California Earthquake Probabilities (WG02) has concluded that there is a 0.62 probability (i.e., a 62% probability) of a strong earthquake striking the greater San Francisco Bay Region (SFBR) over the next 30 years (2003-2032).

Such an earthquake is most likely to occur on one of seven main fault systems identified in this study, but may also occur on faults that were not characterized as part of the study (i.e., in the "background")

The WG02 results come from a comprehensive analysis led by the USGS and involving input from a broad group of geologists, seismologists, and other earth scientists representing government, academia and the private sector.

The results of this study are appropriate for use in estimating seismic hazard in the SFBR, and estimating the intensity of ground shaking expected for specified "scenario" earthquakes.

In addition, they provide a basis for calculating earthquake insurance premiums, planning and prioritizing expenditures for seismic upgrades of structures, and developing building codes.

Loved Ones…this information is available to Iraq and Iran and North Korea….all 3 countries the United States of America presently under the “leadership” of Bush and Chaney are being raped of resources and the murdering of their innocent civilians….

Stop and think about it loved ones…what do you think the growing number of enemies the Bush gang is creating…what do you think they will do when the big one hits here at home?•

Because the ten most likely future earthquakes in the Bay area occur on faults throughout the region, the impact and potential losses reported here reveal significant risk for the entire ten county regions.

• The study found that all ten of the most likely forecast earthquakes would cause social and economic disruption equal to or greater than the 1989 magnitude 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake when current building replacement/repair costs in the San Francisco Bay Area are utilized. The M6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake resulted in at least $6 billion in damage to buildings and infrastructure. This amount does not include the resulting economic losses related to this damage.

• Our loss estimates were determined using the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s nationally recognized and publicly available earthquake loss estimation model, HAZUS. We used ground-shaking inputs for the scenario events developed using the same methodology employed by the USGS in producing automated, near real-time, web-based ShakeMaps, that depict the degree and distribution of strong shaking following significant quakes in the San Francisco and Los Angeles region. In a post-earthquake setting, FEMA and CA OES will use ShakeMap input into HAZUS for rapid post-event loss estimation and to help guide emergency response. Ground motion inputs in a HAZUS-ready GIS format are available on the web for these ten most likely scenario earthquakes as well as for all potential Bay Area earthquakes characterized by the Working Group.

• A repeat of the 1906 magnitude 7.9 earthquake, the worst case scenario for the Bay Area, is estimated to result in about 5800 fatalities if it strikes during working hours. This estimate is comparable to the approximately 6000 deaths caused by the 1995 M6.9 Kobe earthquake that occurred in the afternoon directly beneath an urban area with a population of 1.52 million people. Most scenarios, however, have maximum projected fatalities on the order of several hundred, reflecting the success of earthquake-resistant design and construction practices in California, particularly in residences.

• The loss of life is predicted to be highest if an earthquake occurs in the early afternoon when people are working in commercial buildings with varying vulnerability to quakes These predicted mid-afternoon fatalities are generally about 5 times higher than values predicted at 2:00 AM when the population is assumed to be in wood frame residential units.

• Because all ten of the scenario earthquakes in the loss estimation study strike much closer to the urban core of the Bay Area than magnitude 6.9 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the projected number of uninhabitable residences for all ten scenarios will probably exceed the 16,000 made uninhabitable by the Loma Prieta quake. For example, the Association of Bay Area Governments has estimated that more than 150,000 uninhabitable residences will occur in a M7.9 repeat of the 1906 earthquake or a M6.9 rupture of the entire Hayward fault.

These loss estimates are believed to be minimum ones

•...in part because of a lack of detailed and representative building inventory in the Bay region, as well as the fact that damage to specific facilities or lifelines, such as the Hetch-Hetchy aqueduct system, Bay Area ports, and transportation systems, is not included.

For example, a recent Bay Area Economic Forum study on the seismic vulnerability of the Hetch-Hetchy system estimated potential for tens of billions of dollars of losses related to failure of that system alone in a major earthquake.•

The East Bay I-880 corridor along the Hayward fault would experience the most proportional property damage of the entire Bay area, a result of dense development directly along and next to the Hayward fault and the fact that earthquakes on this fault, while lower in magnitude than those on the San Andreas Fault, have higher odds of occurring.

• For all Hayward fault earthquake scenarios, severe shaking is predicted to extend westward across San Francisco Bay onto the soft soil sites on the San Francisco Peninsula and the made land/artificial fill in San Francisco. In fact, San Francisco’s financial district, which is largely built on pre-1906 bay fill, is approximately equidistant from the Hayward and the San Andreas faults, making it vulnerable to large earthquakes on both sides of the Bay.

Loved Ones…you can make excuses…you can deny the facts….you can bury your head in the sand…but…this is true…our planet is but a vechicle for our souls to learn our lessons…lessons about not judging…lessons about compassion…lessons about sharing…lessons about not doing to others what you would not want done to yourself…

Now is the time for American peoples to treat all peoples in a loving fashion….to treat the Hamas in a loving fashion…to treat the Iranians in a loving fashion…to treat the Iraqi peoples in a loving fashion…to treat Moslems and Jews and Catholics and Hindi and atheists and Gnostics all in a loving fashion…on this planet we are all brothers and sisters…we are all children of our Divine Parents….we are all sparks of Mother and Father God.

At this time I petition for the protection of all persons living within the earthquake zones on the West Coast of the beautiful country of America…I petition and ask that in the Name of Our Lord Jesus the Christ.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1159398691656247152006-09-27T16:09:00.000-07:002006-09-27T16:11:31.666-07:00Emergency Prayer/Petition for Healing...for Noel BensonLoved Ones…tonight a loving Man…Noel Wayne Benson

...will be surrounded by his loved ones…in the morning will be the quadruple bypass…at this time I petition for the White Light of the Holy Spirit to surround and enclose the most loving being Noel Wayne Benson and all his loved ones…I petition and ask that in Mother and Father God’s Name.

...Also I petition for his surgeons and his medical entourage to be infused with curative energies if it is God’s Will….

...Lastly I petition for the White Light of the Holy Spirit to protect and be above Noel, below Noel, in front of Noel, Behind Noel…to the right of Noel and all that is left of Noel…I petition and ask that in Mother God’s Name.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1155052049229317192006-08-08T08:45:00.000-07:002006-08-08T08:47:29.253-07:002% of Nursing homes are good..."secure horizons alrightLoved Ones…

please read this report…

it impacts you and all your loved ones in these United States of America…

following is a article from Consumer Reports’ providing objective evidence…concerning your health and safety for sale….

In 1987, Congress passed a landmark law meant to improve nursing home care for the elderly. But our investigation reveals that poor care is still all too common, especially at nursing homes run by for-profit chains, now the dominant force in the industry.

Consumer Reports' analysis found that not-for-profit homes generally provide better care than for-profit homes, and that independently run nursing homes appear to provide better care than those that are owned by chains. In a separate study, we found that many states are lax in penalizing bad homes.

For this report, we analyzed the three most recent state inspection reports for some 16,000 nursing homes across the U.S. We also examined staffing levels and so-called quality indicators, such as how many residents develop pressure sores when they have no risk factors for them.

The Consumer Reports Nursing Home Quality Monitor, formerly the Nursing Home Watch List, lists facilities in each state that rank in the best or worst 10 percent on at least two of our three dimensions of quality. By examining the kinds of homes that tend to cluster at either end of the continuum, we can make some judgments about how likely a facility is to provide proper care.

This year's list, financed by a grant from The Commonwealth Fund, a philanthropic organization, is the fifth we've published since 2000. We've seen little evidence that the quality of care has improved since then. Indeed, 186 of the homes cited for poor care on this list have also appeared on earlier lists of poor-quality homes.

Consider the White Blossom Care Center, part of a for-profit chain in San Jose, Calif. From the outside, it looks like many of the nursing homes that dot the California landscape: wings of residents' rooms and a parking lot full of cars. Inside we saw nothing that would arouse unease. Residents nodded off in wheelchairs, and aides chatted at nurses' stations as an occasional visitor walked through the halls.

White Blossom, though, is no ordinary nursing home. It's one of 12 that have been on each of our lists of poorly performing homes since 2000. Its state inspection, conducted last August and current when our reporter visited in December, raised troubling questions about the care it delivers.

Page after page of the unusually long document detailed failures to follow doctors' orders, perform a pain assessment, monitor pressure sores, screen for tuberculosis, or properly sanitize dishes and utensils. The 43-page report told of a stroke victim with swallowing problems who was left unsupervised with mushy material in her mouth. And it mentioned a medication error that could have been fatal. The survey also reported on the facility's plans to correct the deficiencies that were cited.

The survey, which by federal law must be "readily accessible" in every nursing home, was not visible in the lobby when our reporter arrived. Only after she insisted on seeing it did the home's administrator produce it. A staff member at the front desk said the report wasn't initially available because someone else was using it at the time. Steven Earle, White Blossom's administrator, wouldn't comment on specific deficiencies but said that they had been corrected.

In the three most recent state surveys we analyzed, 657 homes across the country were cited for failing to make their inspection results readily accessible.

SKIMPING ON CARE?
CR Quick Take

Our investigation found that the state agencies responsible for overseeing nursing home care have often failed to correct problems. But consumers can increase their odds of choosing a good nursing home if they narrow their search to certain types. Our findings: • Not-for-profit homes are more likely to provide good care than for-profits, based on our analysis of inspection surveys, staffing, and quality indicators. • The same analysis shows that independently run homes are more likely to provide good care than chains.• Through its influence in politics, the industry has whittled down the protections of the 1987 federal law.

While our investigation suggests that you or a family member might receive better care at a not-for-profit, independently owned facility, they make up a small portion of the industry. Since the establishment of Medicaid, the state and federal program for the poor and the elderly, in the 1960s, for-profit homes have come to dominate the field.

"In some chains we see facilities that will consistently do poorly," says Paul Dreyer, director of licensing and certification in the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. "Sometimes it hasn't been the chain's priority to make facilities the best they can be. The focus is maximizing some kind of return to investors."

Bruce Yarwood, president and CEO of the American Health Care Association (AHCA), which represents primarily for-profit homes, says that poor homes are a "chronic, tough issue." He notes that many nursing home executives have trouble escaping Wall Street's quarterly earnings pressure. But, he says, "For every bad story there are probably 50 good ones."

Nursing home researchers say that the most serious problems sometimes show up in small, for-profit chains within a state. In New York, for example, Healthcare Associates, wholly owned by Anthony Salerno, jointly administers a network of 12 separately incorporated facilities. Salerno is the largest shareholder in all the facilities. Three of the homes have been on our quality-monitor list.

Earlier this year Eliot Spitzer, New York's attorney general, sued one of the three homes, the Jennifer Matthew Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rochester, alleging abuse and neglect. Investigators used a hidden camera to show that call bells were placed out of residents' reach and that patients would go unturned and unwashed for hours. That facility was a four-time repeater on our lists. The legal case is ongoing; a lawyer for the center did not respond to requests for comment.

One reason the independently owned, not-for-profit facilities might do a better job is that they tend to have more staff, which experts agree is crucial to good care. We found that on average, not-for-profits provided almost an hour of additional nursing care each day per resident, compared with for-profit facilities. They also provided nearly twice as much care from registered nurses.

In 2002, a study conducted for the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) noted that without a daily average of 2.8 hours of care from nurse aides and 1.3 hours from licensed nurses, residents were more likely to experience poor outcomes--pressure sores and urinary incontinence, for example. "Most nursing homes are staffed significantly below that," says John Schnelle, director of the Borun Center, a joint venture of UCLA and the Jewish Home for Aging that does research on long-term care.

The CMS, however, has not recommended or adopted minimum staffing standards, a point of contention for nursing home advocates, who are pushing for them. Marvin Feuerberg, a technical director at the CMS, says officials even watered down the 2002 study's executive summary when it was given to Congress.

Instead, current rules say that staffing must be sufficient to meet the needs of nursing home residents, a standard so vague that it makes penalizing nursing homes that skimp on care almost impossible. Rules do require homes to have 8 hours of registered nursing and 24 hours of licensed nursing coverage per day. But the standard applies to all homes, no matter how many residents they have. So a nursing home with 200 residents can use the same-size staff as one with 20.

Inadequate staffing puts residents at risk. Glen Barnhill, 46, of Nashville, lived in Tennessee nursing homes for several years after he suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Barnhill, a quadriplegic who needs a ventilator to breathe, says he would sometimes go into respiratory distress while waiting for a call light to be answered. "I'd be in bed gasping and fighting for air, not knowing when the nurse would come," he says.

The AHCA says that minimum staffing rules cannot be an unfunded mandate on the part of the government. "If you're required to have x amount and certain types of staff, you need reimbursement," says Sandra Fitzler, the group's senior director of clinical operations. More money from Medicaid, which pays for more than half of all nursing home stays, would improve staffing, the industry says.

But money is not always the problem. We examined Medicaid reimbursement for nursing homes in 2002, the last year for which we had complete data. We found no evidence that the average state Medicaid payment to nursing homes had a significant impact on the percentage of homes identified as poor performers.

PLAYING POLITICS

Nursing homes are not major donors to national political campaigns, but they wield considerable clout in state capitals, where their $500, $1,000, and $3,000 contributions count with gubernatorial, state legislative, and judicial candidates.

In Arkansas, for example, the industry was a top contributor to state candidates in 2004, according to Followthemoney.org, a nonpartisan database of campaign contributions. The Arkansas Health Care Association, which represents for-profit nursing homes, gave almost $100,000 that year to candidates in the state.

The trade association also maintains an office near the Arkansas Capitol in Little Rock, where legislators can stop in and enjoy a free lunch three times a week during legislative sessions.

"They contribute a large amount of money to people's campaigns" and the politicians become beholden, says state Sen. Mary Anne Salmon, a Democrat. She adds, "Nursing homes have stopped some very good legislation that would have made things better for the elderly. "

Messages from legislators, subtle and not so subtle, filter down to regulators, who have learned that nursing homes will challenge them if they press too hard. Grachia Freeman, a former nursing home inspector in Arkansas, says that supervisors "would not let me write deficiencies I wanted to write" for a facility she was inspecting. Now a nurse at a VA hospital in North Little Rock, she adds, "They were angry with me for investigating and told me not to complete the survey." We made several efforts to interview regulators in the long-term-care unit of the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services but were repeatedly rebuffed.

This pressure "gives facilities the confidence to push back in so many ways, like appealing citations and sanctions because they know that state legislators tend to be very protective of homes in their districts," says Iris Freeman, principal consultant with Advocacy Strategy, a Minneapolis firm that works with community groups on behalf of the elderly and disabled.

EASING OFF OF ENFORCEMENT

Although the number of deficiency citations written by state inspectors has increased 7.6 percent since 2003, according to the CMS, inspectors appear to be watering them down. Each one carries a letter code, from A through L, indicating the scope and severity of the violation. Citations labeled G through L denote actual harm or the potential for death. Codes I through L indicate that the harm was widespread, affecting many people.

State inspectors are now writing fewer deficiencies with codes that denote actual harm, such as avoidable pressure sores and medication errors. "We are going back to a less stringent and simpler enforcement," says a federal analyst familiar with nursing home inspection data at the CMS. "Everything is becoming a D level. Nursing facilities are going to challenge anything above a D level if it carries a mandatory penalty, can be used in a tort case, or will be publicly disclosed."

In 2000, 40 percent of all deficiencies carried a D designation. By 2005, the number had risen to 54 percent. The reason, says the analyst, is pressure from nursing homes on understaffed state agencies that find it hard to muster the resources to defend their citations in court.

The most common remedy for violations is a "plan of correction." The nursing home acknowledges there is a problem and promises to fix it within a specified period. Often the problem is corrected but soon resurfaces, a phenomenon regulators call yo-yo compliance.

TOKEN FINES OR NONE AT ALL

The 1987 nursing home reform law provided for monetary penalties that could be imposed by states and the federal government. But that hasn't meant that fines are collected. In fact, last year the federal Office of the Inspector General found that the CMS did not take all the required steps to collect 94 percent of past-due penalties.

Some states are doing no better. Even when inspectors find that homes are providing poor care, regulators may be slow to impose fines, if they levy them at all.

In 2003 and 2005, Consumer Reports examined whether states were levying fines against our sample of poorly performing homes. We found that the ones that could impose fines were not always using that authority. Our earlier study found that in states with the power to impose fines, only 55 percent of the facilities in our sample that could have received one actually did. In our most recent analysis, we found that states fined just 50 percent of such homes.

Eight of the 12 five-time repeaters on this year's list of poorly performing homes had not received state fines between 1999 and 2004. The others received minimal penalties. California regulators, for instance, fined White Blossom a total of $10,800 during the six years it was on our lists. The largest fine it received in any one year was $3,600.

When fines are assessed, they tend to be low, sometimes absurdly so. Consider the slap on the wrist given the Willow Tree Nursing Center in Oakland, Calif. In 2001, according to state records, a 38-year-old paraplegic with poor cognitive ability left the home on a pass. When he did not return until 2 a.m., the home's administrator ordered a nurse not to let him back in. Regulators cited the facility for failing to keep a resident free from mental abuse and assessed a fine of $700. The state, however, collected only $455 and closed the case. Seventeen months later, the state again cited Willow Tree, for failing to report an allegation of abuse within 24 hours. This time, a nurse who allegedly put a pillow over a resident's face, said, "I'm going to smother you," and then walked out of the room laughing after the patient pushed it off. The state collected $600.

States can reduce an already meager fine by 35 percent if the nursing home agrees not to appeal. The median fine in 1999 for the homes we looked at was $4,800; in 2004 it had dropped to $3,000. Less than 2 percent of the homes received a fine greater than $100,000.

Loved Ones…as I tramp up and down the halls in these places I see this stuff everyday…

people with major pain without help…

people drowning in their own saliva without help…

people yelling for help and being ignored till they pass on…

I literally could not do this stuff (here in California) if I have not had the pleasure to provide rehabilitation services in New Zealand…

where people are valued as citizens rather than valued as funding streams of health insurance dollars…

I know rehabilitation and skilled nursing can be actually done… in a humane manner…society can make changes in how it delivers health care…financial greed can be overcome by national responsibility for all its citizens…hey Cuba can do it!

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1153454413010343642006-07-20T20:58:00.000-07:002006-07-20T21:00:13.023-07:00NeedlesslyLoved Ones…. following are the words gwbush proudly stated …concerning a very serious subject to millions of profoundly suffering people around the world….

Stem cells….

Gwbush after he cast his very first veto and killed the stem cell research bill…. “Crossing this line would be a grave mistake and would needlessly encourage a conflict between science and ethics that can only do damage to both and harm our nation as a whole.”

Loved ones…this is my 29th year as a speech and language pathologist and I can honestly say gwbush’s statement correctly reflects the true state of America’s health care system…needlessly….

When President vetoed the stem cell bill he clearly made his mind evident…his very first veto…needlessly…

Gwbush acts to politically secure certain “strategic votes” at the cost of millions of really suffering people…and yes oh so needlessly…Loved ones…you or a loved one may be impacted by a very wide variety of diseases…. like Alzheimer’s and traumatic injury…needlessly

And believe me…I have worked many times on Alzheimer’s wings…whole floors of older persons in various states of dementia…the physician requests the speech pathologist to do a swallow evaluation because now the patients forget the food is in their mouth…I go in the room and there next to the brown curtain is the C.N.A…. the care giver…she is crying while holding her “baby’s” head asking him to swallow his pureed pancakes…no winners here…needlessly

And all these people are citizens who paid their taxes…who have health care…who tried to do the right thing… and now that they need help…now those who built this country need help…gwbush makes the “gwbush ethical leadership” to kill the help…he makes the choice to exercise his veto to KILL the research…because it would be done… “Needlessly”

Loved Ones…this is how it is out there in the land of American health care.

At this time I petition for the White Light of the Holy Spirit to surround and enclose all quadriplegics and all their loved ones…also I petition for the White Light of the Holy Spirit to protect and heal all earth pilgrims with dementia…and lastly I petition for all Americans currently on a NG Tube or Gtube to receive healings if it is God’s will…I petition and ask that in the name of Mother and Father God.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1143232481982187542006-03-24T12:32:00.000-08:002006-03-24T12:37:48.296-08:00Petition to White Light Bill and Melinda & all their loved onesLoved Ones…as a health care worker…today I was with 4 other health care providers…

Some nurses and aides…

All discussing how many days they have had worked in a row…

One nurse said after 8 days it gets rough…she continued saying she had 2, 8 hour shifts back to back at 2 different locations and also had 2 boys…both under 13…

The other (older) nurse said no more for me…. Some historians believe anthrax was one of the Egyptian plagues at the time of Moses.

Anthrax disease is caused by a rod-shaped bacterium, Bacillus anthracis, which normally resides as a spore in the soil. These spores are extremely hardy. They're resistant to sunlight and have been known to survive in soil for many years.

Anthrax spores remain dormant until they find their way into a host to infect — an animal or a human.

Anthrax primarily affects wild and domestic livestock — such as sheep, cattle, horses, goats and camels — that contract intestinal anthrax by eating spores from the soil. Anthrax once was common in most areas where livestock are raised. But in modern times, animal vaccination programs have greatly reduced the natural occurrence of the disease among both animals and humans in much of the world.
Outbreaks of animal anthrax still occur in places that don't have widespread livestock immunization programs, such as Central and South America, eastern and southern Europe, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Naturally occurring anthrax is rare in the United States.

Historically, most human cases of anthrax occurred as a result of exposure to infected animals or their meat or hides. In fact, anthrax used to be known as woolsorters' disease because people who worked with wool in the 18th century often contracted inhalation anthrax from handling spore-contaminated wool in enclosed factory spaces.

Anthrax as a biological weapon
Before 2001, numerous nations are believed to have experimented with anthrax as a biological weapon, including the United States.

The worst known documented outbreak of inhalation anthrax in humans occurred in Russia in 1979, when anthrax spores were accidentally released from a military biological weapons facility near the town of Sverdlovsk, killing at least 66 people.

But the average person wasn't aware of this weapon until the fall of 2001, when 22 cases of anthrax infection resulted from letters containing anthrax spores sent via the U.S. Postal Service. Eleven people were infected with cutaneous anthrax. Eleven others were infected with inhalation anthrax, resulting in five deaths.

These cases have heightened concern about the possibility of a large-scale anthrax attack by independent well-funded terrorist groups.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has classified anthrax as a Category A bioterrorism agent —

which is considered the biggest threat to national security. Anthrax raises concerns as a biological weapon because:
§ It's not difficult to obtain. Anthrax is a naturally occurring bacterium, so it's relatively easy to grow or acquire. Samples of anthrax already exist at some research laboratories worldwide. Theoretically, anthrax could also be isolated and grown from the remains of an animal that died of anthrax or from nearby soil.
§ It's highly lethal. Experts calculate that 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of anthrax aerosolized over a city on a clear, calm night could kill 130,000 to 3 million people — making such an attack as lethal as a hydrogen bomb. The small size of anthrax spores means they would be likely to infect people indoors as well as those outdoors.
§ It's hardy. Anthrax spores are resistant to environmental damage. During World War II, the British government experimented with anthrax on an island off the coast of Scotland. Nearly 40 years later, abundant numbers of spores survived on the island. Cleaning up the island required tons of formaldehyde and seawater.
People intent on creating widespread anthrax infection would most likely spread anthrax by spraying it or releasing it into a ventilation system. However, making anthrax into a form that can be aerosolized requires growing a large number of spores and converting them into a powder form. That's difficult for perpetrators to do, and they may accidentally contaminate themselves. In addition, the release of anthrax spores could be difficult to control because of the wind's variation in direction and velocity, making anthrax a less effective weapon of mass destruction.
Anthrax spores come in different sizes. The smaller the size, the more easily the spores can be inhaled and cause severe illness. Hundreds of strains of anthrax occur naturally, some which are more resistant to antibiotics than are others. Genetically altered strains could prove more difficult to treat. However, it takes advanced skill to produce anthrax of uniform size or of increased virulence.
Potentially, animals could be purposely infected with anthrax. But animals with anthrax die very quickly, and their meat turns black in color, so it's unlikely that infected animals would ever make it to a meatpacking plant. There's little information available about the risks of food or water being contaminated directly with anthrax spores.

Experts say that biological agents such as anthrax may be more of a threat to individuals, who can be infected by anthrax sent through the mail, rather than a threat against large groups.

Loved ones what goes around comes around

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1129222574791699672005-10-13T09:54:00.000-07:002005-10-21T05:14:46.266-07:00you are referred to as a "FUNDING STREAM"Loved Ones…. within the American health care delivery system every patient is referred to as an “FUNDING STREAM” or in layman terms….

you are not a person, you are not a suffering ill individual…. you are the source of a stream of funding into the health care delivery system….

some people are big streams (they stay a long time and gets lots of pain meds and therapy)…and there are small streams (they are in rooms with 4 to 6 beds and no Therapy with little of no pain meds) and then there a those Americans who have no stream of funding for the H.C.A. to harvest….(they just die in the street) a most economical use of our health care within United States Medical establishment.

So loved One...use caution with your health insurer, volunteer at the SNF or the Sub acute care facility Mom or Dad are presently housed in, do not trust g.w. bush or the big dick….as they are all on the receiving end of the “Funding Stream

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1129221022315562692005-10-13T09:27:00.000-07:002005-10-13T09:37:02.643-07:00Dr. Frist,,,,call on line 3..its the SEC they want youLoved Ones….American health care is a fraud ….a fraud perpetuated on all of us….Take Bill Frist for example ….the powerful Washington Republican power broker……
Oh yes this I believe….he is just a hard working surgen……that is all he is…he only wants the best for you and I…of course he does …why else would he be doing what he is doing?

The fraud

"As a heart and lung transplant surgeon, my life has been dedicated to improving individuals’ lives through advances in health care. In Frist's case, regulators had to proceed with caution due to his status in Congress and their mutual desire to avoid triggering constitutional objections to the release of documents. The disclosure of the subpoena comes as Democrats blasted Frist anew for his financial and personal ties to Hospital Corporation of America, a Nashville chain founded in 1968 by his father and his brother, Thomas Frist Jr. Critics yesterday seized on a report that Frist held a substantial amount of his family's hospital stock outside of blind trusts between 1998 and 2002 -- a time when he asserted he did not know how much of the stock he owned.
Frist's stock sale came just days before the company's stock dropped in value dramatically.

The SEC is moving in the right direction by subpoenaing Frist's documents, but it's time for Frist to come clean about exactly what he knew and when he knew it.

Loved ones how can they insinuate Dr. Frist is anything but a straight up guy….hey g.w. and big dick will vouch for him….and I trust everyword uttered out of george and big dicks mouths….don’t you….if you do not…you must be antiamerican and a terrorist…..I wonder of Bill Frist has Kaiser or Secure Horizons…?

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1129218595807171782005-10-13T08:49:00.000-07:002005-10-13T08:49:55.810-07:00hey its only money..so what if it kills you and loved onesReuters
HCA sees earnings below estimates
Thursday October 13, 11:41 am ET
By Julie Steenhuysen

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Hospital operator HCA Inc. (NYSE:HCA - News) on Thursday forecast earnings that would fall below analysts' expectations and said it expects $33 million in third-quarter costs related to Hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

HCA, the nation's largest hospital operator, also said it would buy back about 11 percent of its shares in a modified Dutch auction tender offer at a price of between $43 and $50 a share as it moves to bolster shareholder value.

The company said it expects to report earnings for the third quarter of 2005 ranging from about 61 cents per share to 63 cents per share, including an estimated adverse financial impact from the storms of about 5 cents per share.

But the company said third-quarter results are also expected to include a tax benefit of about $22 million, or 5 cents per share, from the repatriation of foreign earnings.

Analysts on average had expected earnings of 65 cents a share, according to Reuters Estimates.

HCA forecast 2006 results in a range of $3.25 per share to $3.45 per share, well below the analysts' average estimate of $3.53 per share, according to Reuters Estimates.

Shares of HCA rose 69 cents, or 1.41 percent, to $47.35 in morning trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

FTN Midwest Securities analyst Rob Eich said shares traded higher on the share buyback program and on relief that the news was not as bad as some investors had expected.

"I think investors expected an earnings shortfall in the third quarter. The good news is the shortfall isn't larger than it is," he said.

For the third quarter, HCA expects to report revenue of about $6 billion. Same-facility revenue rose about 4.6 percent in the quarter, but same-facility admissions fell about 0.7 percent as HCA felt the impact of the hurricanes.

HCA said it expects its provision for doubtful accounts -- or unpaid patient bills that are unlikely to be collected -- to be about $618 million in the third quarter, or 10.3 percent of revenue, compared with $688 million, or 11.9 percent of revenue a year earlier.

On a same-facility basis, uninsured admissions in the quarter rose about 15 percent and emergency room visits rose about 14 percent compared with a year earlier. Uninsured emergency room visits rose to 21.5 percent of total same-facility emergency room visits in the quarter, up from 19.7 percent in the same period last year.

HCA said its full-year 2005 earnings should range from $3.10 per share to $3.20 per share, excluding a number of items, including the impact of the $2.5 billion share repurchase program. Analysts on average have expected earnings of $3.11, according to Reuters Estimates.

In a separate statement, the Nashville, Tennessee-based company announced a $2.5 billion share repurchase program in the form of a modified "Dutch auction" tender offer.

HCA said it will buy back up to 50 million of its 452.7 million outstanding common shares at a single price of no more than $50 each and no less than $43. It will finance the buyback with about $500 million in cash and borrowings of about $1 billion from an existing revolving credit facility. It has also secured a commitment for a short-term loan facility of $1 billion. The offer starts October 14 and expires November 14 unless extended.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1129218135093334932005-10-13T08:38:00.000-07:002005-10-21T05:22:45.396-07:00sad...very sadLoved Ones…yesterday I walked away from another health care position within a Sub Acute Care Facility ….

the reason …I refuse to provide speech and language services so that a large corporation (possibly the largest in the United States) can get richer and stronger while abusing rehab professionals and their patients with intimidation and subtle threats….the situation is this….

I get paid $43/hr and they bill $326/hr for my services…

they will not provide me with a room (required for effective communication therapy), they are only concerned about getting busted for fraud and squeezing dinero out of any dying Americans (only patients with money/insurance) one hospital bed at a time.

How much will you (or your mom or dad) end up paying in the last days/weeks/months of this present incarnation to the giant hospital system….? The Live8 concerts that are happening this weekend will be a wonderful musical occasion. But despite the fact that the world's greatest popular musicians are playing, they are not the stars of the show. The 8 of Live8 are not 8 musicians or bands - they are you, the 8 leaders of the G8.

Everyone taking part in these concerts is there because the many generations watching will not tolerate the further pain of the poor while we have the financial and moral means to prevent it.

We are gathering for you the largest mandate for action in history. Just as people demanded an end to slavery, demanded women's suffrage, demanded the end of apartheid, we now call for an end to the unjust absurdity of extreme poverty that is killing 50,000 people every day in the 21st century. Live 8 is taking place so that you, our elected leaders, right now, in 2005, make the breakthrough demanded by, amongst others, the Commission for Africa in the battle towards making poverty history. You know what needs to be done, specifically:

On Aid: Deliver an extra $25bn aid for Africa and make plans to ensure this aid really will be effective at eradicating poverty. This must stand beside a further $25bn for the other poorest countries of the world. This is the absolute minimum required to begin to win the battle against extreme poverty.

On Debt: Confirm the 100 per cent debt cancellation from the G8 finance ministers' meeting and commit to 100 per cent debt cancellation for ALL the countries that need it and remove damaging economic policies that are imposed as a condition.

On Trade: Make decisive steps to end the unjust rules of trade, and allow poor countries to build their own economies, at their own pace. It is only through trade that Africa will eventually beat poverty on its own.

Let it be equally clear that, at the same time, African governments must be free from corruption and thuggery and put in place recognised practices of good governance, accountability and transparency towards their own people and to the world. Twenty years ago at Live Aid we asked for charity. Today at Live8 we want justice for the poor. The G8 meeting next week can take the first real step towards eradicating the extremes of poverty once and for all.

We will not applaud half measures, or politics as usual. This must be a historic breakthrough.

Today there will be noise and music and joy, the joy of exuberant possibility. On Friday there will be a great silence as the world awaits your verdict.

Do not disappoint us. Do not create a generation of cynics. Do not betray the desires of billions and the hopes of the poorest of our world. Are those 50,000 people each day to be allowed to live, or not?

- Bob Geldof, Live8 and all of its supporters

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1117607443263008032005-05-31T23:22:00.000-07:002005-05-31T23:30:43.273-07:00teenage Text Messages to help smokers quitLoved ones…at the young tender age when still emergent oral motor habit patterns intersect with peer group and tension…. at that specific intersection in time and place cigarettes can become desirable….and a life long habit is born….

Loved ones now a new avenue has intersected and made a new and healing pathway for young people to kick the habit of smoking.

Text messages can help young smokers quit cigarettes. And can be a new weapon to combat escalation in youth smoking.

"This is a very encouraging result. We want to develop the concept further but this trial confirms that a text-based approach has the potential to be a powerful resource in reaching and helping young smokers," Dr Rodgers said. . "We view Stomp (N.Z. university test program) as just one of the first applications of the advances in mobile technology to help individuals become experts in managing their wellness.

There were 1705 young smokers from around New Zealand (who all wanted to quit) enrolled in Stomp. Half of them were in an "active" group and received intensive text intervention leading up to an agreed quit date and one month of free texting. This included regular personalised text messages that encouraged them to give up smoking or provided distraction at the key moment when tempted to light up. "There are several ways we think it worked," said Dr Rodgers.

"Free texting acted like "chewing gum for the fingers" and helped with distraction as people texted friends and family. We sent personalised texts on things like coping with urges to smoke, avoiding weight gain, and just plain general interest stuff on sports, music and fashion.

"Using text crave, participants could "pull" a message of support. Text polls and quizzes added further distraction.

A lot of people picked up on text buddies too, with people who were due to quit around the same day helping each other out." Typical messages of support were: "Who else r u giving up smoking 4? Write down 4 people who will get a kick outta u kicking butt. Your mum, dad, m8s?"

Dr Rodgers said the treatment effect was consistent in participants of different ages, sex, income level or geographic location - it could be particularly effective in helping young Maori who have been not been able to be reached via traditional smoking cessation programmes. Co-authors of the report, Dr Dale Bramley and Dr Tania Riddell from the School of Population Health at the University, helped develop message content that was of particular relevance to Maori. "Being able to tailor the programme to suit the needs of individuals was the key to its success amongst Maori participants," said Dr Bramley. "We produced a number of messages on topics such as Te Reo, Maori legends and Maori traditions." Quit rates remained high at six months, but Dr Rodgers said further study was needed to more closely quantify progress, extend the range of follow up testing and establish how success compared with other interventions over the longer term. Future studies would also look at the use of newer multimedia phones which offer further opportunity for providing quit information and distraction.

Loved Ones include the enlightend citizens of New Zealand and all their loved ones in your prayers.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1116431402189793092005-05-18T08:44:00.000-07:002005-05-18T08:54:35.263-07:00"It came out of the blue,"Loved ones in the harmony of life....no energy is wasted....Blake and Ryan Leitch have been invited to meet the mentor teacher...Stephen Hawking .....Blake, 13, and Ryan, 15, suffer from congenital spinal muscular atrophy...both wheel chair bound with significant disabilities.... Switzerland's Barry Callebaut has developed a range of oh so delicious chocolate said not only to appeal to the tastebuds but also to protect the heart.

This Swiss gentleman is the world's largest producer of chocolate, Barry Callebaut has plans to offer not only "guilt-free" such a gnostic thought!, such as no-sugar, ranges but also "good-for-you" chocolate....a most loving gnostic christian dimension....

The company's secret is polyphenols, a natural ingredient in vegetables and fruit that are plentiful in cocoa beans but are partly destroyed in the process of making chocolate.

Polyphenols could prevent cancers and cardiovascular diseases, and tests in rats have already shown they can help improve memory and the ability to learn.Once you start eating these goodies you will never forget to eat more...

"What started this off is the so-called French paradox," said Barry Callebaut's head of research, Dirk Poelman. "People in the south of France live longer, although they drink a lot of red wine and eat fatty cheese."

Red wine also contains polyphenols but Poelman said at half the level found in dark chocolate.

That could prove to be the firm's formula for success.

Barry Callebaut, whose retail brands include Sarotti and Gubor, has developed a way of preserving the polyphenols in the process of making chocolate from the cocoa bean, to be sold under its Acticoa trademark.

The polyphenol-rich "good-for-you" chocolate as well as sugar-free "guilt-free" chocolate were launched in April in Belgium...Angels by the legion trumpted the arrival....

Because most of the polyphenols - antioxidants that are said to be good for cholesterol levels, blood pressure and long-term memory - are lost in fermentation, a proportion of beans in Acticoa chocolate are just washed but not fermented. Awsome prayers and petitions .....

Barry Callebaut, created in 1996 by merging Callebaut with French rival Barry, has teamed up with universities to scientifically prove the health benefits for humans of its polyphenol-rich chocolate.

"We can't make any claims yet so we are doing these tests," Poelman said. "The point with this chocolate is that you eat it because it tastes nice and then on top of that it can also be good for you."

For now, polyphenols seem to be a godsend only for lovers of dark chocolate.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1114022987037761712005-04-20T11:37:00.000-07:002005-04-20T11:49:47.036-07:00Joseph Ratzinger is psychic....VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict XVI said

"I seem to feel [John Paul II's] strong hand holding mine. Now visualize George's buttocks having dead flesh being scrapped off every day. Imagine his once fat soft butt now with softball size stinking cavities of rotting flesh. Imagine our president, our leader, our mentor responding with blinks to bright lights and the flicking of hair on his precious forehead..... are you having a difficult time visualizing this....Then try this..imagine yourself in that position....not pretty is it.....

Excellent fodder for political grandstanding while deflecting attention from certain U.S. "police" actions around the globe. Michael Jackson, Terri, the guy that murdered his pregnant wife all are front and center in the news....You did not read or hear about Jesse Ventura setting up a new seat of government because he understands Washington D.C. is the center of the target for anthrax. No ! You did not get repeatedly exposed over and over to this thru the media...Do you think the rest of the world likes us? Have you traveled anywhere lately.....been to Spain, how about Canada, how about Germany, how about Italy, how about China.....we do not have friends anymore. Do we need friends anymore ?

Our government has created a "you are with us or you are against us" mentality. At present the WMD that is most effective here at home....in our country is the controlled media. Do you think the person reading the news on TV has a choice....or do you think the producer selects, scripts and plans what concepts are going to be stimulated based on what is good for you...which concepts will become your memories.....look closely at your news....one guy reads the exact temperature, another guy reads the exact conditions of the traffic, another good looker accurately reads the days top local stories...and then they slip in among these true stories a quickie about how our leaders,.... someone really cares about Terri. Lets look closer at what happened....you turned on the set and got a bunch of accurate facts....real events....real things...then in the middle of this truth is the plant.

The reason for these coordinated national and local broadcasts is to support the fabricated belief that a given group/individual you see on the tube has your best interests at heart.....You think I am full of it...then walk into your local Skilled Nursing Facility and see the people hung out on tubes....going nowhere but continuing to be very viable financial commodities. Now if they have health coverage and you can justify therapy then green light baby? However if you do not have coverage for speech pathology to train a safe swallow then you get hung out on a tube. No therapy you get tube...no coverage...no therapy. Puttie tubbie innne tommie never eat again for the rest of your life. Not only stuck in bed but no oral gratification....you get to click the clicker all you want...day and nite....with liquids coming in and liquids going out.....day and nite....

Empty beds mean loss of income....a full hospital with rich patients means "mo money mo money"....more of everything gets billed and purchased meaning more extreme profits squeezed from these now suffering persons..... individuals like you and me...regular joes. We all need proper medicine and health care...is there room for the unrivaled profiteering in our health care? No coverage=no health care

Do you think the drug companies really care about you or do they care about your money.....do you think the president has Secure Horizons or Kaiser ...do his daughters go to the emergency room because no one has any health coverage.....Now do you really think when you get hung out on a tube the government is going to race in and call a midnight congress so they can help you....I do not think so....you should be prepared to have the establishment remove all monies from you as quickly as possible....unless you have no monies then you can go on "comfort care" right away.

I have been there in the hospital rooms..A bed has coverage, B bed has coverage, C bed has no coverage so they get no therapy. All very simple. I also have visited and observed the response to some of our country's police actions around the globe. Loved ones the way you treat others is the way you will treat your self. Petition that all our leaders in Washington D. C. are protected and enclosed with the unconditional love, the White Light of the Holy Spirit...Petition that all their decisions are made with the purest intent...as each one of us is here to learn our lessons. I petition and ask that in our Divine Parents name.

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11297801.post-1112166128890003152005-03-21T15:59:00.000-08:002005-03-29T23:02:08.893-08:00Kiwi PreventionAs a permanent resident of New Zealand I spent some pleasurable months on Waiheke Island. A cozy spot 30 minutes outside Auckland perched in a blue blue pacific. It is like a little Carmel California without California....The Kiwi people are as beautiful as their country..in N.Z. each citizens health care is a civic right...it is much more cost effective for the government to promote and maintain good health and address health care issues long before the problems get worse when the eventual repair costs escalate. In America the system pushes, smoking habits, drinking habits, fast foods habits....and then our system pushes a private health care system to squeeze the money out of the now seriously ill population.

Example: A regular joe who earns less than 100 grand a year has a poor diet compounded with hours of stressful driving to and from a meat grinder of a job. He lives on heavily advertised fast foods while driving to and from his home he can barely afford which is miles from where he works.

Poor quality foods mean poor digestion and the resulting reduced health rapidly brings down his quality of life. Additional self inflicted tension and stress result with stomach problems which he now attempts to correct with the advertised antacid. His habit patterns do not change...rather the symptoms are addressed with short term fix. In the TV commercial the ill guy is still at the cheap food counter but NOW he takes is antacid to make it better. After the ulcers grow and all the off the shelf products have all been purchased then he is forced to pay for an expensive doctor to fix his now really broken tummy. These hypnotic media stimulated events result with his very limited monies now being spent in an attempt to stop his awful pain. The more the pain the more he will spend.

What is cheaper...a government flu shot or you being 3 days out of work with a temperature. Cheaper for who ? In the states it is cheaper for the government to let you get ill than provide free public health injections. Sorry about that U.S. citizens....also in the big picture the more older Americans with limited retirement monies who get sick and die sooner than later saves Uncle Sam a ton of money. We did have a flu vaccine shortage not long ago....strange...not a shortage of Buicks, or Condo's, or a shortage of TV shows, or a shortage of soft drinks.....only a shortage of Flu vaccines......strange.

When the profit factor is removed the health care decisions are made based only on your physical health...not your financial health. Rather than some connected profiteer making a bundle of cash by contracting all health care workers to all hospitals ....all the money is spent on health care....for example in New Zealand the local friendly dentist visits the school...and its all covered...no profit motivation. No need to pay for TV commercials to help you find a dentist. No need to pay for the HMO, no need to pay the 3rd party billers.....Imagine that.... a government helping maintain the health of its own citizens ! The entire system saves bajillions of dollars in health care costs. Much, much more money left to adapt persons homes when their need arises. Why blow a life time of savings in a few months while laying in a bed in a 99 bed holding station....when for far less money you could adapt your own home...maintain independence, get in-home therapy and retain the funds you have spent a life time earning.......Oh I miss New Zealand.....

Samuel Bellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09298532266546345292noreply@blogger.com0
