Sneak Peek at the 2009 Cover

The 2009 edition of the Diving Almanac will be available on January 30, 2009.

The new cover page was designed by Otto Wagner, the Art Director at ArtToMedia (http://www.arttomedia.com), and Jeffrey Gallant, Editor of the Diving Almanac & Book of Records.

DEEP Indonesia 2008

The 2008 Diving Almanac & Yearbook was presented to the Minister of Culture & Tourism, the Minister of Fisheries & Marine Affairs, as well as several government officials and business associates at DEEP Indonesia from March 28 to 30. The second edition of DEEP Indonesia attracted 10,250 people, an increase of nearly 45% over last year’s show. http://www.deepindonesia.com/

We were busy meeting divers, associates, as well as new and repeat advertisers in New Jersey at Beneath the Sea. In addition to promoting DAY 2008, we collected much information for next year's edition.

This year's event in Chicago was very good for the Diving Almanac and Yearbook. We made new friends and we ran out of books yet again. Our booth was located near the entrance right by our good friend Carlos Hiller and his giant painting of a whale shark. According to the organisers, the show was a record event with over 15,000 visitors.

As usual, most visitors had never heard of the Diving Almanac & Yearbook. Great reviews in magazines aren't enough. We need the help of all of our readers to promote the Diving Almanac and Yearbook. If you have a copy and you like it, please show it to your dive buddies and friends. Bring it to your local dive shop too and tell them that every diver should have this book!

The weekend took an unexpected twist when many flights to the Northeast were canceled due to bad weather. That led to an impromptu night on the town with a group of fellow exhibitors including our good friends Rick and Kathy Stratton from NorthWest Dive News.

Florida Dive Show Recap

We ran out of books at the Florida Dive Show. Every copy of DAY 2008 was sold by Saturday and we gave out about 1000 copies of DAY 2007 till we ran out of books just after lunch time on Sunday. People asked: 'Why are you giving away such a good book?' The answer was simple: The vast majority of divers still do not know that the Diving Almanac exists. We therefore had several copies of DAY 2007 left over from last year. We believe that getting them into the hands of divers is the most effective marketing tool there is. Our readers can also help. If you like the Diving Almanac, please tell all of your friends. Speaking of friends, we saw our good friend and DAY contributor Pascal Lecocq (the Painter of Blue) at the show. Jeffrey was also honoured to meet and trade books with the Sea Salt himself, Stan Waterman.

On Sunday morning, Mr. Waterman told Jeffrey that he had spent part of the evening going through DAY 2008 and that he enjoyed it a great deal. So did several other divers who stopped by the booth the day after getting their copy. One of the most frequent comments says it best: Once you open the book, there's no putting it down! Thank you Mr. Waterman and to all who came to see us at the Florida Dive Show.

This year's DEMA Show was very exciting for DAY. We ran out of books and we made many new friends and business contacts. Those that saw our publication for the first time had the same reaction: "Wow! This book is incredible. Why didn't I know about this? Every diver should have a copy of DAY." We couldn't agree more and if you think so too, please tell all of your friends and bring your copy to the local dive shop. Tending a booth at shows like DEMA helps, but it is our readers that will make DAY a household name. We need your assistance to spread the word and to help us improve DAY every year.

DAY 2008 is 680 pages long, including 350 world records, 500 personalities and 5 color inserts; that's 150 more pages, 100 more records, and 150 more personalities than last year.
