I tried for this to be a fun thing that we could communicate with, but our school is not ready.

The reason we are not ready is that some of us are not responsible enough to use this cool technology without abusing it. Someone has been writing mean comments to me using the comments box. I am tired of it, it is disrespectful, and it hurts my feelings. So, if you (whoever you are) were trying to hurt my feelings, well, you succeeded. I hope you are happy.

I just want to remind you of the Valley Oaks Elementary School Creed that you now say every single morning at our school. Maybe someday you'll understand what it means. Until then, you are ruining it for the rest of us.

Miss Lee =(

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-35985376271489156222008-02-06T09:38:00.000-06:002008-02-06T09:42:15.441-06:00Long Time, No Post!Hey, Eagles,

Thanks for the requests for more posts! No one had commented in awhile, and so I wondered if anyone was still reading our blog!

We had SUPER DUPER success with the Reading Challenge last month. You awesome Eagles read thousands and thousands of minutes! Congrats to the winning classes, but most of all, to all the people who read every day. You are fabuloso!

Tomorrow night we are having Character Education Night here at Valley Oaks. You definitely should come so that you can hang out with your friends, listen to stories, buy some new books from Blue Willow Bookshop, and learn more about how to be a kind and respectful human being. Don't forget it's from 5:45 - 7:15!!

The Bluebonnet Votes have been counted, and the winner has been announced! Stay Tuned to VOE TV on Friday for the winners!!! Our school winner was different than the overall state winner, for the 4th year in a row!

Have you read anything good lately? We have some new chapter books in the library - if you are interested in something new, just ask Miss Lee!

Have a great week, Eagles!

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-28871833691382417152007-12-03T07:24:00.000-06:002007-12-03T07:28:38.989-06:00Don't Forget the Books!!Hey, Eagles,

It's that time of year where we often make lists of things that we want to celebrate the holidays that are coming up! You know... Hanukkah, Christmas, etc...

Anyway, don't forget that you can ask for BOOKS for Christmas, in addition to all that other great stuff you want. Yeah, a Wii is cool, but it's not a BOOK. Yeah, an iPod is cool, but it's not a BOOK. Yeah, Legos are cool, but they're not a BOOK!!!

Are you catching the pattern here, readers?

Here are some really good books that I love that you might want to put on your Holiday Wish List, if someone asks:
1. Hatchet (awesome chapter book!)
2. anything Harry Potter (best book ever, right?)
3. Fancy Nancy (oooh, I love this pink princess-y book)
4. The Name of this Book is Secret (I wrote about this one in another post - it's a fabuloso chapter book)
5. Anything in a series, like Magic Tree House, Bailey School Kids, Encyclopedia Brown, Junie B., and so on. You remember now.
6. DK Eyewitness books (those cool non-fiction books w/ all the awesome pictures and info that you love)

I'm sure there are a zillion more books you could ask for, so don't forget to think about BOOKS when someone asks you what you want! If you can think of some, comment here and let me know!

Happy Reading, and Wishing,

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-69983836888252326812007-11-19T13:56:00.000-06:002007-11-19T14:02:07.915-06:00Happy Turkey Day!Hey, readers!

Several people want to know what "Checking in" means from the posting below. The title of that posting was no big deal, peeps! I just meant that I was writing to say hey and tell you what's going on in the library. It didn't mean anything!

I hope everyone has a very safe and happy Turkey Day this week! If you are traveling, please be safe! If you take your library books with you, don't forget to bring them back! Ha!

Lastly, I have heard several times this past week or so about this cool website called Free Rice. If you go to this website, you can practice your vocabulary while donating rice to feed the world's hungry citizens. It's awesome! Show your Mom and Dad, too, and see if the website can stump them with a really hard vocabulary word!

Gobble Gobble,

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-58847102789510401952007-10-30T07:20:00.000-05:002007-10-30T07:25:20.912-05:00Checking in...Hey, eagles!

Boy, has it been busy around the library, lately! Stop in and see what we've got going on! Our first month of Book It ends on Wednesday, and it's almost time for Children's Book Week. This year, we'll be celebrating Children's Book week beginning on November 12. Listen on the announcements for a few trivia questions to answer, and the opportunity to win a gift certificate to get free books!

The 4th graders are reading that unusual and sometimes frustrating book called The Watertower, by Gary Crew. I love reading this book to 4th grade because they either LOVE it, or HATE it! It's hilarious to see what each class will think about the ending... or NON-ending. You 5th graders will remember The Watertower, if you think really hard! Look for it on the F CRE shelf if you want to borrow our 2nd copy!

I just finished reading an AWESOME book called The Name of This Book is Secret. It's being ordered and should arrive in the next few weeks. You chapter book fans will think it's spectacular!

See you soon!

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-17550813866936612652007-10-15T07:18:00.000-05:002007-10-15T07:21:47.509-05:00Reading ProgramsHey, Eagles,

I hope you had an awesome weekend! By now, we are a few weeks into the Bluebonnet Program, and halfway through the first month of Book It. Are you reading the Bluebonnet Books? Are you doing Book It? I always wonder why kids don't do Book It, b/c it's super easy. I mean, you just keep up w/ the calendar, read a little every day, and bring the calendar back to me, and you get a free pizza!! How easy is that?!

If you're reading the Bluebonnet books and haven't yet gotten a Bluebonnet book bookmark to keep track of what you've read, see me sometime this week and I'll get you one. I forgot to pass them out to most of the classes!

Also, the Bluebonnet reading sheets will be ready this week - finally! See me if you need to write down what you've already read.

Have a great week, Eagles!

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-35638765775210999322007-10-08T07:17:00.000-05:002007-10-08T07:18:59.972-05:00Bluebonnet Books!Hiya, Readers,

We've had our Bluebonnet Book program going now for about 3 weeks. So far, what does everyone think of the books this year?! I like a LOT of them! The chapter books are particularly good this year! Maybe a chapter book will be the winner?! I love it when a chapter book wins the Bluebonnet Award, since the program is for kids in 3rd through 6th grade. I mean, those are definitely grades where kids read chapter books, right?

What do you think of the books? How many have you read so far? Which do you think will be your favorites?

Check ya later, Eagles, and as always,

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-39621401603417564212007-10-03T07:07:00.000-05:002007-10-03T07:10:19.504-05:00Wanna Vote?!Morning, Eagles,

I learned how to put a "poll" on our blog. A poll is like voting for something. If you'll look over to the right, you'll see a question that says "What kind of books do you like to read most?", and then you have some choices to select an answer. Choose your answer and hit the "vote" button. Your vote will be counted and you can see a graph with the results! Cool, huh?!

Look for new polls every 2 weeks! Next poll posts on October 15!!

Happy Reading,

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-85629652174726311012007-10-01T20:40:00.000-05:002007-10-01T20:44:55.719-05:00New Books Galore!Hey, readers!

Thanks for all the comments on my blog! Mr. Dhevan and Ms. Colvard's class went CRAZY with the blog comments today! Keep commenting, however, remember that your comments should be about the posts. You can make a request, too, but if I ask a question in the post, don't forget to answer the question before hitting "publish"!

Now, on to your comments... a few people think that we need to raise money for new books for the library. That's a great idea, and we're working on it, but just so you know, we get new books in ALL THE TIME, kiddos! You can look at the shelf labeled "Check Out These New Books" for new books, including chapter books. Also, on top of the science shelves, there are always new non-fiction out.

Here's the post question for tonight: What kind of chapter books do you think we need?! Be specific!

See ya around, Keep Reading, eagles,

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-10186132468017701052007-09-17T10:39:00.000-05:002007-09-17T10:41:54.106-05:00Who is Your Favorite Author?!Hey, Eagles,

Over the weekend, I went to Atlanta, GA, to see my favorite author speak. She was SOOOOOO cool! I LOVE listening to authors talk about their books, and about writing, and about reading, and all kinds of other awesome stuff.

Speaking of hearing authors, we'll be having a Visiting Author NEXT WEEK! On Friday, September 28, Helen Ketteman will be at VOE to read to us, talk about her books, and sign some books, too! I can't wait to see her!

Who is YOUR favorite author?!

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-74746033420330364382007-09-11T17:57:00.000-05:002007-09-11T18:00:07.769-05:00Book Fair Blizzard!BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, the Book Fair Blizzard has come to VOE!

There were all kinds of awesome books in the Book Fair this year. We got tons of them for the library, but I hope you got to get some, too!

Did you get a book at the Book Fair? What was the name of it?

I know you can't wait until the BOGO in the Spring! I'm sure that many of you read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows over the summer. I did, too! Wasn't it AWESOME???!!!

If you have read it, stop by and tell me what you thought of the book! I'd love to know!

Oh, and if you have not read it, you can be sure we'll have some copies in the library if you need to borrow one.

Remember that books like Harry Potter are really special to some people. Some kids love to know how books end before they start reading, and some kids don't. Make sure you are being respectful and not going around spoiling the ending for your VOE friends! If you want to talk about the book, first ask, "Have you read the Harry Potter book yet?" If they say "no", then don't spoil it! Come talk to me! I'll listen all you want!

See you in a couple of weeks, Eagles!

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1122402086800896374.post-15356551492727009372007-06-21T10:58:00.001-05:002007-08-05T22:08:09.096-05:00Welcome to our Blog!Hey, readers!

What is a blog?
If you are looking at this, then you've made it to the Valley Oaks Library Blog! A Blog is sort of like writing in your journal (like you do every day at school), except instead, you write on the internet. It's super cool, and your friendly neighborhood librarian, Miss Lee, loves to blog, so she decided that the VOE Library needed a blog of its own.

What do you write in a blog?
You can write almost anything in a blog. Our blog, called Eagles Read, will be mostly about books and school stuff. For an example, see my post about the new Harry Potter Book. It should be the post above this one.

What can kids do with this blog?
The purpose of a blog is to read something, learn something, and write back to the blog author. That's what kids can do with our Eagles Read blog! If I have said something that you want to make a comment on, then ask me how you can write back for others to read what YOU think!

I can't wait to see what you have to say!

Happy Reading (and blogging),

Miss Lee =)

Head Squirrelnoreply@blogger.com
