Keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you eternal life.

Jude 20-21

What a great description of how this saving relationship with Jesus works. One day I will be saved and I am waiting for the mercy of God that will come through Jesus Christ. While I wait I build myself up in the faith. I pray in the Holy Spirit. I keep myself in God’s love…

Earlier in Jude we read of those men who did not do those things. They were selfish and godless and they divide the church. In Isaiah we read God’s words to Israel to return to Him – over and over again! In Titus 3 we see how those who are trusting God must devote themselves to doing good.

Waiting for mercy is at the same time total dependence on God and being devoted to the Gospel. Waiting for mercy cannot be living wickedly because you will ultimately need God’s grace anyway. That is cheap grace and disrespecting the God who will save you. God’s people move toward Him. We pursue Him in our living. We depend totally on His grace. We build ourselves up in the most holy faith – not destroying the faith of others. We pray in the Holy Spirit – not live by the demands of the flesh. We keep ourselves in God’s love, worshipping the One who is consistent and merciful toward us.

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your mercy today. Help me to be merciful toward others. I am really looking forward to the eternal life You are bringing. Come any time! I am ready. While I wait for Your mercy I will live for You. Be glorified through my life today.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-69803984459259552792008-06-30T07:22:00.000-07:002008-06-30T07:23:57.186-07:00Eager To Do GoodFor the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

These, then, are the things you should teach. Preach the Word. Be ready all the time. CaRE: correct, rebuke, encourage...

I am thinking about each of these in my ministry. How ready am I to correct? Rebuke? Encourage? It also strikes me that Paul says to do this 'with great patience and careful instruction.' Patience - courageous endurance without quitting. If you're going to Preach the Word, you need a GREAT amount of patience. 'Careful instruction' makes me think of time investment. It's not instant potatoes... you don't just add water.

Lord, help me to keep my head in all situations and, with great patience and careful instruction, preach Your Word. Give me the discernment to know when correction, rebuke or encouragement is needed. Things haven’t changed, really. It is still difficult for people to do good. Evil is prevalent. Paul writes to Timothy that “there will be terrible times in the last days” (2 Timothy 3:1). We know from Revelation that things will go from bad to worse to horrific before god makes everything right and Jesus reigns completely over the universe in both the physical and spiritual realms.

For the man of God, he is to continue in the teaching that he has received. In spite of the times, the Word of God is capable of equipping him for whatever days he is living in.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

While it is true that everyday with Jesus is sweeter than the day before (great song!), it is also true that evil is prevalent and will continue to be. I need to engage God’s Word everyday to be equipped for this life that is lived in conflict with the world around me. One day God is going to make everything right and there will be no conflict! That’s called Heaven!

Lord Jesus, help me to engage the conflict around me with Your grace and by the power of Your Spirit. May Your Word do its job and equip me for every good work as I read and study it – following hard after You each day. You are the Savior! Save us, please. We are lost in the dark without You. I live for the glory of Your Name today.Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-2966909799323710662008-06-27T07:48:00.000-07:002008-06-27T07:50:44.874-07:00A Friend Sent This To Me... There will be people in heaven for-ever because of them. I have enjoyed a handful of Leadership Summits through the years and the Preaching/Teaching Conference in October 2003 continues to be a source of inspiration for me.

What I discovered last Fall is there are are Christians in the world who are 'Willow-bashers.' I almost couldn't believe it. Christianity Today's blog wrote the infamous "Willow Creek Repents?" post and the junk started flying. I even wrote H.B. London of Focus on the Family when he misrepresented Willow and their Reveal project in his weekly pastor's email. I got a 'nice' reply from H.B.

So I am very happy this morning to read this Out of Ur post! Thank you! Can we please get on with it? In 40 years I'll be dead probably. Maybe sooner. I don't have time to waste on completing the mission that Jesus has given the church.

By the way, REVEAL is an amazing read. 75 pages... lots of pictures and colorful graphs! (love that!) If you're vested in developing mature disciples for Jesus through the local church, it's a must read.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-21574450744557858102008-06-26T07:08:00.000-07:002008-06-26T08:09:29.613-07:00Strong In GraceYou then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs—he wants to please his commanding officer.

2 Timothy 2:1-4

Strength. Faithfulness. Men want these, but they don’t happen naturally. Fear and infidelity come naturally. Paul encourages Timothy toward strength and faithfulness. He is appealing to the heart’s desire for those things, but they must be encouraged! They don’t just happen.

The encouragement comes to be ‘strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.’ Being strong in grace… what does that look like? How can a guy like Timothy (or a guy like me) be faithful to the gospel of grace? It takes strength, to be sure! It takes the determination that other things will not preempt the truth of God’s Word or the power of His grace that is found in Jesus.

This Gospel is also reproducible. Not by chance but by design. It has a witness to the hearts of people. God is using this Gospel of grace to draw people to Himself, offer them hope and healing and to build His family. These things ‘entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.’ And so within this generation and from generation to generation the Gospel is delivered to the hearts of people.

Strength and faithfulness is required because there will be difficult days. “Endure hardship with us” Paul writes to Timothy, “like a good soldier.”

I am encouraged by these words and am taking them to heart! I need to be a reliable man who entrusts the Gospel to other reliable men. I need to not be surprised by hardship, but endure it like the soldier for Christ that I am. I intend to please my Commander! It all begins with being strong in His grace. This is what makes this life in Christ so different. It is not confidence in my own strength and resources, but confidence in His grace.

Lord Jesus – You are Lord and I respond to You and Your grace today. Teach me, Lord, what it means to be strong in Your grace. I know that You want me to engage the battle for the hearts of people. This requires more than I have… so thank you for the strength You provide! Thank You for Your Presence. Fill me with Your Spirit and increase my strength in Your grace today. Lead me to the battles You have for me and be victorious today.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-54316608482736796252008-06-19T11:15:00.000-07:002008-06-19T11:20:10.507-07:00Oh, To Be A Man of God
9 Then he sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts.

Colossians 4:7-8

Monday I journaled that Paul’s ministry was to encourage the hearts of people and to promote unity in the Body of Christ. In today’s reading Paul describes Tychicus whom he is sending to encourage the hearts of the Colossians. Through his presence and by sharing news of Paul’s circumstances, Tychicus would encourage their hearts. Hearts need to be filled with courage to continue living for Jesus in this discouraging world. Encouragement comes through one another.

Paul describes Tychicus as
1. A dear brother
2. A faithful minister
3. A fellow servant of the Lord

These credentials make him a fantastic choice to encourage the hearts of the saints. By describing him as a dear brother, Paul indicates the relational connectedness they have. There is love and partnership between them! Tychicus is also a faithful minister. He has a competence in ministry – he is faithful in the tasks of building the Kingdom of Heaven. Tychicus also has the identity as a servant of Christ. Just as Paul understood and described himself as a bond-slave to Christ (Philippians 1:1), so Tychicus had this same position in this world. He served Jesus! Christ was His Lord, which made him a great choice to encourage the hearts of the saints.

I would aspire to be like Tychicus. I would be blessed and encouraged myself if people described me as Paul described him. As I become more like Jesus, may this be true of me and may I be deployed to encourage the hearts of the saints.

Lord I am Your servant today. Send me where You will to encourage the hearts of people. Please give me wisdom, clarity and strength these days as we try to establish some things that will help people take their next steps with You. Thank You for this life that can be lived in Your service… a life that never grows old as we dive deep into the richness of who You are. You are awesome and I serve You today.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-40691060316710504422008-06-17T07:40:00.000-07:002008-06-17T08:44:07.254-07:00Jesus Is My LifeWhen Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature…

Colossians 2:1-3

Jesus is how holy living is realized. It’s not through will power… it’s not lucky chance… it’s not that some personalities can be holy and others never will… it’s because of Jesus, the Son of God, has come. He brings new life and is Himself life.

To have the understanding that Christ is my life changes me. He is not a part of my life or One who enhances my life – He is my life. Jesus is life. When this is my frame of reference and how I understand myself, holy living comes to be. Everything that is not my life… that is not of Jesus… is jettisoned. I let it go, putting on the attributes of Jesus who is my life.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:12-17

Lord Jesus, You are Lord of the universe and Lord over me. You created all life (Col. 1:16) and You are my life. Thank You for the grace You’ve given to me when I’ve taken my eyes off of You and been enticed by the things of this world that are not life! Help me to forgive others as You have forgiven me. Lord Jesus, be my Vision today. Be all that I see! Be so large in my sight that nothing else compares to You and live Your life through me. May everything I do today be done in Your Name, bringing You the honor that You deserve. In this day I worship You.Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-82270377131303037102008-06-16T06:46:00.000-07:002008-06-16T07:47:57.000-07:00Optional No LongerI want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Colossians 2:1-3

Paul understood Jesus Christ to be the mystery of the ages – the knowledge and wisdom of God. His ministry was to make Christ known to people. Here in Colossians 2 he states his purpose: to encourage the hearts of people and to see them united in love with one another. It is then that the mystery of Christ can be known.

Encouragement and unity are important we know, but do we realize just how important? Without them people will not know the mystery of God, namely Christ. Discouragement of heart and disunity in the church block people from having ‘the full riches of complete understanding.’ In Jesus are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, but discouragement and divided people will never know Him fully as He wants to be known.

So Paul’s ministry was to encourage the hearts of people and promote unity in the Body of Christ. This is so valuable, vital and crucial! Too often I have considered encouragement and unity as added blessings… nice if you can have them… but not absolutely necessary. These are not optional for ministry – they’re must-haves! Encouragement of people’s hearts and unity in the church must be promoted, protected and expected! Otherwise the gospel will not take root and people will not know Jesus.

Thank You, Father for raising the value of these in my heart and mind this morning. Raise me up and strengthen my heart that I might be a champion for ‘encouragement of hearts’ and ‘unity in the church’ for Your Kingdom today.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-51920743541413912502008-06-05T06:28:00.000-07:002008-06-05T07:43:50.233-07:00His Eyes Are On Someone Like Me
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,

to deliver them from death
and keep them alive in famine.

We wait in hope for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.

In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.

May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD,
even as we put our hope in you.

Psalm 33:18-22

The Lord God is awesome and worthy of my worship!

From heaven the LORD looks down
and sees all mankind;

from his dwelling place he watches
all who live on earth-

he who forms the hearts of all,
who considers everything they do.

vs. 13-15

Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous;
it is fitting for the upright to praise him.

vs. 1

Who is like God? If being pleasing to God is important to those who follow, then these are important verses of Scripture! The way we serve Him… the demeanor, the spirit or the heart we have matters. Paul also says that men will approve too. Nobody complains about such a heart! Righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit is attractive to people.

There are ‘heart assassins’ in my life that want to remove these qualities from my service to Christ. These situations, dynamics and choices I make can virtually steal the peace and joy I should have. When peace and joy are absent, unrighteousness of heart, soul and mind usually show up in their place! If serving God in His Kingdom is a matter of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit – and these things are pleasing to God – then actively defending against these ‘heart assassins’ is more than just optional for me. I want God to be pleased with me! I want to hear those words “Well done, good and faithful servant!” And somehow I don’t think the amount of tasks accomplished is a part of that faithfulness.

So the ‘heart assassin’ of overwork, for instance, needs to be neutralized. Why do I bite off more than I can chew? Why does doing the workload of 3 people seem doable and right to me so often? Is it because I’ve done it before? Sure, I’ve mostly done it, but peace and joy easily go out the window. I become driven. Then what does the church have? A pastor who is a ‘goal accomplishment animal’ but has little peace and a scarcity of joy. Is that what God would have me model? But I’m getting a lot done! Yeah, yeah.

I am also struck by how much I am drawn to this ‘heart assassin.’ I invite him in… I enjoy his presence… (I do?). Pleasing God must be more important to me than goal accomplishment. It’s the chief goal! If I serve Christ with righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit – Jesus will be pleased and people will approve. People will be fine… they’ll be OK… they’ll be applauding even. The last person I will have to convince that this is right is that guy I shave with in the mirror.

Lord Jesus – search my heart today. Know my heart and motivations and lead me in the way You would have me go. I want to please You above all else, so be the Lord of my calendar today. Reign over my task list. Be the King of my heart and infuse me with righteousness, peace and joy in Your Spirit – for Your Name and glory. May my life be appealing to others, that they may be drawn into Your sweet Presence. Use me this day, I pray.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-43317386746620791292008-05-30T07:50:00.000-07:002008-05-30T07:51:33.995-07:00Flawless WordsEvery word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

Proverbs 30:5

I wonder how much pain, agony & strife I have been spared because of God’s Word being a shield around me… protecting me from unseen and unknown evil. It’s a clear line of demarcation… a yes or no question. Do you care about the poor? The righteous care because God cares.

I could do more for the poor. I could be a champion for them more than I have been. I could be a louder voice for them. I could love them more. This is the heart of God. The poor are too easily taken advantage of. Injustice can come their way because they have no power; no voice. God would have His people speak for the benefit of those whom He so deeply loves! The Lord would have me speak up and love them.

Lord Jesus, would You enlarge my heart for those who are struggling in this life because of little or no resources? Help me to see with Your eyes and love with Your heart today. Lead me where You would have me go and prompt me to speak and act as Your representative… as Your disciple! And may many more of these whom You died for come to know and love You with their whole heart is my prayer.Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-18378492475268327022008-05-28T06:45:00.000-07:002008-05-28T06:46:43.167-07:00Oh, The Depth!I couldn't stop this morning. The Life Journal reading is Romans 9 but I kept going... through chapters 10 and 11. Honestly, those three chapters are best read together! They also make the famous words in Romans 12:1-2 more significant. So I echo Paul in worship this morning:

Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
"Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?"
"Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay him?"
For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! God selected David, bringing him from the shepherd fields to lead sheep of another kind. And David through the integrity of his heart and the skillfulness of his hands was a man after God’s own heart who led the people well.

I often have the fear of pasturing in me. How do I shepherd these people? Who is possibly up to such a task? It’s reassuring, I guess, that most pastors are struck with the fear and the sense of inadequacy from time to time. The ones who don’t, well… you probably don’t want to be led by them. But back to the point: David also had feelings of inadequacy! We’ve read as much in his story recently. He relied on God with a humility of heart and was used mightily. Through these two things, the psalmist writes, he lead Israel:

1. Integrity of heart
2. Skillfulness of hands

Not perfectly, of course. There are examples from David’s life when he failed in both, but because of his humility, God continued to use him. And well!

God can use me too as my heart remains humble and I pursue Him with my whole heart. As I live by the integrity of my heart and as God has re-created me to be in Christ, I will be a good leader. As I continue to improve the various skills I need, God will use me to shepherd His people. I will still have feelings of inferiority, but that’s OK. God can do all things! (Phil. 4:13)

Father, make me more like Jesus today and use me to lead your people well.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-75746321368176963312008-05-20T07:20:00.000-07:002008-05-20T07:23:26.943-07:00That's Good NewsI am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Romans 1:16-17

The gospel is powerful because of its ability to save people. Both Jews and Gentiles can believe the Good News and be saved! The message is that a righteousness from God is available through faith. No longer through the works of the Law will people strive for purification from sins and a righteous standing before God. Now through faith in Jesus people will be made righteous. Paul says this is from ‘first to last’ by faith, for the “Righteous will live by faith.”

I believe this Good News! Belief and trust in Jesus and what He did on the cross makes me righteous. Faith is seen in my walking in obedience to this truth – for the Righteous will live by faith. There is no religious exercise or work of the Law that brings righteousness – just the blood of Jesus shed on the cross brings my righteous standing before God.

There is still the tendency for me to be compelled to ‘do’ for God so that I may be considered righteous. The problem with that is when I am not ‘doing’ I can then not feel righteous before God. This, clearly, is not the gospel. I am righteous before God because of the cross and my faith in the One who died for me there. Any ‘doing’ comes from that place – that righteous standing before Him. I am righteous, so I serve Him. ‘I sing to Him forgiven!’ The righteousness of Jesus is on my life because of this gospel that I believe in.

Thank You for the power of the gospel in my life, Father. Thank You for making me righteous through Jesus! I live by faith today…

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-3554257477471485782008-05-19T06:40:00.000-07:002008-05-19T06:43:09.175-07:00It Takes PatienceA man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.

Proverbs 19:11

Overlooking an offense is evidence of a wise and noble person. It ‘is to his glory’ to do so. People will note the grace and patience required to overlook the offense and they will think highly of that person. They’ve seen Jesus in him!

Gaining in wisdom will be seen in an increase of patience – especially when others are being offensive! To have wisdom and see the larger picture to the point of being able to overlook the stupidity, that’s a lot like Jesus.

Lord, you are amazingly patient with me in my stupidity and have overlooked my offensiveness by your grace. We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

Why would anyone do Kingdom work? It’s a difficult endeavor, the pay is horrible and there is opposition in the physical and spiritual realms. Why would you sign up for that?

Paul encourages the church significantly! Being remembered is treasure to the hearts of people. To hear that you are being prayed for is very encouraging! Paul then frames the motivation of their hearts for ministry – Faith, Love and Hope. Faith produces the work they’ve accomplished already. Love is the motivator and Hope gives them courage to continue, in spite of the opposition.

I certainly resonate and am encouraged by Paul’s words to the church. There is continual opposition in Kingdom work and you can question ‘why do this?’ all the time. Oh yeah, the Gospel of Jesus. I believe it is true! And if it is true it has the greatest ramifications for humanity. This Gospel has changed my life and God’s love has been poured into my heart (Romans 5:5). Love compels me to share this News (2 Corinthians 5:13-15). And when times are hard, it’s the hope of heaven that encourages me to continue (Romans 8:18).

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-33241238937027531492008-05-05T06:55:00.000-07:002008-05-05T07:35:56.121-07:00Help From HeavenMay the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
may the name of the God of Jacob protect you.

May he send you help from the sanctuary
and grant you support from Zion.

May he remember all your sacrifices
and accept your burnt offerings.

May he give you the desire of your heart
and make all your plans succeed.

We will shout for joy when you are victorious
and will lift up our banners in the name of our God.

May the LORD grant all your requests.

Psalm 20:1-5

I can imagine David writing this Psalm, this blessing, for one of his commanders or mighty men – like Joab. As Joab was leading others, extending the kingdom and engaging in battle against the king’s enemies, there would be times of distress. There would be moments of extreme stress when decisions would need to be made. David sings this prayer: ‘May the Lord answer you when you are in distress. May the God of Jacob protect you…’

The assumption is that those in the battle are praying. ‘May God hear those prayer and send help from the sanctuary.’ From the place of worship… from the location of God’s Presence help in on the way.

Is it possible that worship is the Command Center for the battle? It must be! Especially if the battle you are engaged in is God’s battle. If it’s conflict that He calls you to enter into for the sake of His Kingdom and His purposes, then from hearts of worship come the ability to strategically advance against God’s enemies. Yielding to Him is required! Thankfully He hears the prayers of His people and comes to lead and protect them. God is involved in the plans of men when He is worshipped and honored as God Most High.

David sings, ‘May god give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed. May the Lord grant all your requests… And we will shout for joy when you are victorious!’ What a great image of community - loving and rooting for each other!

I desire to see the Kingdom of Heaven advance more powerfully through me and my church family. I want there to be scores of people in heaven for all eternity because we were here in this place and time representing Jesus well. ‘Father, give me the desire of my heart and make all of our plans succeed!’

This is primarily a spiritual endeavor and we are wrestling with powers that cannot be seen. I have known distress, to be sure, and I need the God of Jacob to protect me. It has and will continue to be from this place of worship that God will bring strength and help to my heart. Daily worship, as well as corporate worship, are not luxurious options for me or any who want to successfully engage the battle

Worship is the Command Center where I hear the directives of the King. In His Presence help comes to me as my heart is encouraged and strengthened. It is here at His feet that I am reminded of God’s great love for me and that the battle is not mine but His! I am not ultimately responsible for victory – Jesus is! And guess what? He is already risen victoriously! I am simply His servant encouraging hearts and claiming the spoils of His victory over hell and the grave. It is in worship that I am reminded of this. It is in His Presence where I am given the help I need for this day. It is here that the desires of my heart or molded to what He desires.

Lord, give me the desires of my heart and make all of my plans succeed! Thank You for answering me when I am in distress and for protecting me from things I’ll never know. I trust in Your Name – Your awe-inspiring Name – this day.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-64760504740936938552008-05-02T06:50:00.001-07:002008-05-02T06:50:53.978-07:00Victory For The UprightFor the LORD gives wisdom,
and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He holds victory in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,

for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.

Proverbs 2:6-8

Wisdom comes from the Lord. Solomon says to pursue it! Seek wisdom like a treasure – it will pay! Knowledge, understanding, discretion, wisdom… it will all protect and save you. It will guard your life and spare you years of mistakes and the inevitable regret that comes with those mistakes. What’s more, wisdom will replace loss with victory!

There is a way that seems right to me but it leads to death. As I seek God and receive wisdom and insight from Him, there is victory. Knowledge and understanding from Him protects me from what seems right. I can know and do what is right because of the wisdom I receive from God.

Pretty cool!

Father, I seek You this morning. Teach me more of Your way. Give me the wisdom I need for this day and lead me victoriously! Thank You for the truth of Your Word. It is a blessing to be able to read Your thoughts everyday. I yield my mind and thinking to Your thoughts. May my thoughts reflect Your thoughts today, Father. Be glorified in my thinking and I know You’ll be glorified in my actions. You are awesome; the Almighty God. There is none like You. I worship You today.

Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11217223.post-75988835862562668652008-05-01T15:13:00.001-07:002008-05-01T15:16:19.724-07:00Some Weeks
Ever feel like this? My custom is to read four or five chapters every morning immediately after rising from my bed. It employs about an hour of my time, and seems to me the most suitable manner of beginning the day. In what light soever we regard the Bible, whether with reference to revelation, to history, or to morality, it is an invaluable and inexhaustible mine of knowledge and virtue.”Neil Johnstonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03284991435034657177noreply@blogger.com
