The DC Girls show last Fall seemed slightly out-of-place (I don't really think street skate brand when I think FDCC) but it was a fun show amidst the sea of Canadiana couture (if you can call it that). This year, it was the gsus show on Friday night that stood out for me. What a blast! The Dutch brand brought-it with a super-fun runway fusion of fashionsta rock-punk meets tailored versatility. It's a creative brand for the creative elite, and this show didn't disappoint with the amptly named "VIKINGS on AMISHon" collection. When a great model stomps-it, in a blinding gold bikini, to a blasting Fischerspooner track, well, let's just say, that's the sort of fashion show I like. Nelly Furtado hosted, performed, and took home five awards. TV viewership was way down. k-os performed with Saskatchewan Roughrider cheerleaders and then smashed his guitar. Kill me now.<br /><br />Let's focus on the positives. Billy Talent and smoke machines. Patrick Watson. AOF taking screamo prime time. The Bob Rock tribute. DJ Champion.<br /><br />Juno Awards aside, the weekend was a blast. On Friday night I hit the MTV party put on by Pink Mafia, jumped over to the Exclaim! Spring Fling Tour at the Odeon where Malajube and DJ Champion rocked out, and then went back to the MTV party for some basement dance action with my friends from MTV and Bedlam. I think I went to bed at 4 am or something. <br /><br />Saturday was the Rockstar Hotel party at Hotel Senator. I left the venue at 5 am (the party was still going on) and got an hour of sleep before having to go back to the hotel for tear-down.<br /><br />I finally got some rest on Sunday afternoon before heading out to the Juno Awards that night. After the award show I hit the Universal Music party at Earl's which was amazing. Everyone was there and it was one of the best parties of the weekend (after the Rockstar Hotel of course). I can't quite place my finger on it but something seems a little off with this campaign. Not sure if it's Diesel's mass-market play (Union Station take-over?) or the over-the-top take on a serious issue (New York under water?) that doesn't quite sit right with me. I couldn't get over how cool it was to play tennis and feel like you're acturally playing tennis. Or a virtual golf swing that literally looks like my actual golf swing (scary). Nintendo's approach to this new console was smart. They didn't try to play on the power (or price) level with Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, and opted for a product innovation strategy that promises to widen the appeal of the entire category. It's great to see marketers who still consider Product and Price as marketing.
