Tom Rayner of England's Motor Cycle News reports that JBL Audio has built a specially equipped Kawasaki ZX-10R for this year's Max Power car tuning show. What's so special about it? Let's start with the $15,000 stereo system: Shoehorned inside the frame is a 600-watt subwoofer, six separate competition-strength car speakers and two amplifiers that up to 1700 watts of power.

Says Kawasaki Managing Director Martin Lambert, “At full volume, it shakes all of the bike’s nuts and bolts loose. You have to tighten them all up before the next show.”

Songs can be selected from one of two iPod Nanos on the handlebars, and there's a Sony PSP nestled above the dashboard. A DVD player hidden inside the tail lets you watch films on the LCD screen embedded in the seat hump. And for the musically inclined, there's an electric guitar jack in the exhaust pipe. Green strobe lights from within the fairing even provide a lightshow.
The only bummer? The bike doesn’t run. The monster subwoofer requires such a large amplifier that the engine had to be removed. So it rocks, but doesn't roll

This year's fifteenth annual motorcycle and scooter commuting demonstration will increase the number of riders on the road, according to Ride to Work, a non-profit advocacy organization. "Riding to work on this day shows the positive value of motorcycles and scooters for transportation. For many people, riding is an economical, efficient and socially responsible form of mobility that saves energy, helps the environment and provides a broad range of other public benefits," states Andy Goldfine, the event organizer. Motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts and rider organizations worldwide encourage their members to ride to work on this day.

According to the United States Census Bureau and the Department of Transportation, over eighty million cars and light trucks are used for daily commuting on American roads, and about 200,000 motorcycles and scooters are a regular part of this mix. On Ride to Work Day, the practical side of riding becomes more visible as a larger number of America's 8,000,000 cycles are ridden to work.

Ride to Work Day helps demonstrate how these vehicles make parking easier and help traffic flow better. Studies have shown that across equal distances commuting motorcyclists reach their destinations in less time than those using automobiles, that motorcycles and scooters consume less resources per mile than automobiles, and that they take up less space on roads. Motorcycle and scooter riders seek improved employer recognition and support for this form of transportation, and more public and government awareness of the positive value of riding.

XDL U.S. Stunt Riding Championship

For 2006 the XDL team is putting together a 3 events series consisting of an East and West Coast qualifying round and a final shoot out. To maximize the entertainment value we are running the XDL U.S. Stunt Riding Championship as part of GT LIVE.

Our "Best of the West" qualifier is May 12 & 13 at Phoenix International Raceway. The "East Coast Eliminator" runs October 6-8 at Virginia International Raceway.
Each of our rounds is invitation-only and will consist of a maximum of 30 riders. The top ten finisher advance to the finals. Our main competition is Individual Freestyle which offers riders 10Gs in prize money. Other competitions are Team Battle and Sickest Trick. Confirmed riders for the West Coast round include some of the best in the country.

World Superbike Championship leader Troy Corser will start from the front row

World Superbike Championship leader Troy Corser will start from the front row of the grid after setting third-fastest time in today's Superpole at Imola, Italy.

A small crash in the afternoon un-timed qualifying was just enough to make the Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider start his Superpole lap a bit cautiously.
He was down on time in the first split and that probably cost him the Superpole win. But he is on the front row and well-placed to contest the lead right from the start of tomorrow's pair of 21-lap races.
Chris Vermeulen (Honda) smashed the lap record to take his second Superpole win with a time of 1:48.075. Second is Regis Laconi (Ducati), with Corser third and James Toseland (Ducati) fourth.
Yukio Kagayama found the setting-sun difficult to cope with and lost his braking markers a few times on his way to the seventh fastest lap in Superpole.

700 Horsepower from Suzuki Hayabusa

Basically, DynoJet make motorcycle dynamometers and they provided a bunch oif them and anybody could roll up and the guy whose bike made the most horsepower won. The winning fellow was Hank Booth of Great Falls, Montana, whose highly modified 1999 Suzuki 1300GSXR Hayabusa motorcycle with an NLR turbocharger cranked out an incredible 701.32 horsepower.

Other winners in the Import Unlimited class with Booth included; RCC Turbo/Richard Peppler, of Ontario with 559.02 HP, and Glen Bertagnoli coming in third with a 445.16. All of the top three competitors were using the Suzuki Hayabusa engine.

Motorbike runs on hydrogen power

A British firm showed off a hydrogen-powered motorbike to the USA Tuesday. Intelligent Energy hopes to begin selling it late next year. It could be priced at about $6,000 once mass production of about 10,000 units begins, the company says.

While attention has been focused on developing pollution-free hydrogen-powered cars, Intelligent Energy and some others have turned instead to two-wheeled transportation.

California, where Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has committed to building a "hydrogen highway," has 40 existing or planned hydrogen fueling sites and a goal for up to 100 by 2010, the state's Environmental Protection Agency reported last month.
Besides California, Intelligent Energy hopes to market the motorcycles in China, Japan and Europe.

NFL - Browns' Winslow hurt in motorcycle crash

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. sustained internal injuries when he was thrown from a motorcycle, the team said Monday night. The Browns didn't provide details of Winslow's internal injuries, but said they are not life-threatening. Winslow had complained of chest pains after he was injured Sunday.

Winslow was riding in a community college parking lot Sunday when he hit a curb at about 35 mph and was thrown from the motorcycle, Westlake police Lt. Ray Arcuri said.
"He went over the handlebars and was real evasive about what the injuries were," Arcuri said.
The 21-year-old Winslow was wearing a helmet, but it wasn't strapped on and flew off his head, Arcuri said. He landed in a landscaped area at the edge of the parking lot, falling hard enough to tear out a small tree.

Winslow purchased the 2005 Suzuki GSX-R750 last month. He could face charges of reckless operation and operating without a valid driver's license because he didn't have a learner's permit, Arcuri said.

Riding the motorcycle may have violated his $40 million contract. The bad thing about this whole inccident is that witnesscess stated he had just left a motorcyle dealership after watching the Starboyz movie. Does this incident give our sportbike a black eye? You decide ...

Beauty queen brighter than nuclear physicist

A Slovenian TV program that tried to prove top models were brainless bimbos was scrapped after a beauty queen turned out to have a higher IQ than a nuclear physicist.

Iris Mulej, a former Miss Universe contestant, was found to have an IQ of 156 by scientists working for the program makers. She had to take a series of logic tests looking at spatial awareness, mathematical equations and problem solving ability.

The test result forced Slovenia TV, the state broadcaster, to cancel its program involving the model who left school at 16 to pursue a modelling career.
A spokesman for Bronz Model Management that represents Iris, 22, said: "They couldn't really do a program making fun of dumb models when she turned out to be smarter than anyone else on the program.

We wonder if she also races Superbikes.

Team SUZUKI MotoGP completed the final day of free practice and timed qualifying for the first round of the MotoGP World Championship at Jerez in Spain with both racers bettering their previous best times.
On an extremely windy and dusty track, Kenny Roberts Jr. and John Hopkins were affected by strong gusts that battered the circuit and hampered their attempts at fast qualifying times. This didn’t deter either rider as they searched for those ever-important split seconds.

With top trap speeds of over 190 mph, Jason Pridmore(# 43) helped set the early pace in Superstock qualifying on Wednesdayafternoon at the famed Daytona Int'l Speedway. By the end of thequalifying session, Factory Yoshimura Suzuki rider Aaron Yates (# 20)had gone to the top of the order with Factory Yamaha of Jason Disalvofollowing, just ahead of Pridmore, who was 3rd fastest, placing him onthe front row of the grid. Team SUZUKI MotoGP showed off its brand new team livery during testing at Phillip Island in Australia today.

The new colours that will adorn the Suzuki GSV-R race bike this season were officially launched at Bridgestone’s New Year Reception last month. Today was the first time the striking design took to the racetrack and both Kenny Roberts Jr and John Hopkins were impressed with their new-look bikes.

Roberts Jr said: “The bikes look fantastic - the new design has made all the difference to the shape of the GSV-R. It is yet another step forward in the new team image and shows more commitment from Suzuki.
