Kitsuné Maison Compilation 7

Out today, Kitsuné Maison's 7th compilation is a fantastic collection of new music from the likes of Renaissance Man, Chew Lips, Phoenix, Men, Heartsrevolution, and many, many, more. To give you a sense of the record, we've got the The Golden Filter's "Favourite Things" to share with you. It's a grooving, shiny, tune with a literal list of things that the mysterious singer digs.

Overall the compilation is a good balance of proper club tunes as well as songs that you can enjoy without a dark smokey environment. Showcasing new artists alongside veterans always seems to be Kitsuné's main goal, and they've compiled a great selection for their latest offering. Definitely pick up the release and check out the fantastic Yuksek remix of autoKratz's "Always More", as well as the Classixx hype-worthy cut of Pheonix's "Lisztomania". There are too many good tracks on here to list, so just take a listen for yourself.

iTunes has had the compilation on digital for a bit now, but you can finally get it on Amazon and Beatport as well.

BT has been hard at work on a new album and a new iPhone application called Sonifi, which is supposedly the world's first portable remix app. It should be available soon through the iTunes app store for the iPhone and iPod touch.

However, his new single "Rose of Jericho" drops tomorrow on Beatport with tons of remixes that he promises will please and blow people away. Check out the official video for the original mix right above!

I love supporting folks from my hometown, especially when they're actually really talented. DC-based producer/dj Nacey hit us up with his remix of Major Lazer's "Hold the Line". If you don't know Nacey, he's part of the hot Nouveau Riche crew with Gavin Holland and Steve Starks.

Nacey's remix of the Lazer tune is a slower and darker jam but keeps Santigold's great Mr. Lexx's vocals intact.

"Hooligans" is topping the UK DMC charts at #1, so Don decided to share two more remixes with us, both from bass-heavy masters. First off, famed Dutch dnb production crew Noisia decided to mix things up and gave "Hooligans" their own take on the tune, but with a twist on electro. I have to hand it to Noisia, they've broken out of the stigma of being within one genre, and they once again prove that they are one of the best production teams out there. This tune will be playing all over very soon.

Secondly, we've got a dubstep cut from Wire, Example's tour DJ. It's hard, nasty, grimey will make your brain rollover in its skull. It works really well with the original tune, but is a lot nastier than Doorly's take (which is fantastic as well).

Did you know über-talented illustrator McBess has a band called The Dead Pirates with fellow designer Simon? Well, the two teamed up with superhouse the Mill and created this music video for their band. The result is a fantastic piece done in McBess's signature drawing-style, all in black and white, and with a fun little story. Looking forward to seeing more from the two and hearing more of their music.

Zune HD w/ Touchscreen Coming This Fall

In an official announcement yesterday, Microsoft confirmed that the rumoured Zune HD would be coming out this fall. The new multi-media device does away with the circle button for a full-on touchscreen. The device is also a hell of a lot thinner, and dare I say, actually sexy. Yes, I said a Microsoft device was sexy.

As rumored, the new Zune connects to XBOX Live Marketplace, and there are some hints that there may be apps and games on the way. But is Microsoft too late with the design overhaul? Even with HD radio, video, touchscreens, and unicorns, can the Zune stand up strong and tall against both the iPhone and iPod Touch?

PacoVolume is a musician from France that doesn't do straight up dance music, but rather focuses more on guitar-driven melody and lyrics. His new single "Cookie Machine" is an upbeat tune with a video that combines stop-motion animation and live-action to emphasize the song's lyrical points. It's simple, fun, fresh pop.

It's a solid comeback single, and I'm happy to see they're not changing up their style just to conform with trends. The video itself works a lot with the new album's concept, at least in direct relation to the artwork.

Pacemaker - Portable DJ System

We heard about the Pacemaker a long time ago, and it's finally here. The debut model, the Tonium P666 Pacemaker, has a 60gb hard drive, 2 stereo channels, headphone port, line out port, and can pretty much do anything you can do with a traditional setup. At least that's what they claim.

The design of the device is pretty slick, and they spent a long time fine-tuning the features, getting assistance from top-notch producers and DJs like Richie Hawtin, Sebastian Ingrosso, and others. The result is a one piece device that lets you do everything you can do with Ableton or the vinyl setup. I think it's interesting that a serious portable device is finally out, not something like an attachment to an iPod. However, as with most things in the DJ industry, adoption might be a bit slow. People are so set into using Serato, and Ableton, that the pros probably won't be running to this thing.

Engadget did an unboxing a few days ago, and it's obvious the company is all about design and presence, with cute little quotes and horoscopes related to music printed on the packaging. If you have $499 lying around, Amazon is selling the player exclusively here in the US. Check out the creative Pacemaker video on the little device above. The Pacemaker is a fantastic, fresh idea and it will be interesting to see how far it goes.

If you haven't heard of Mowgli before, let me introduce you to him. He is the label-head of the DeadFish record label which puts out a style of music they like to call "midget house". OH man, there is an all out market now on DJ apps from different labels and artists. Mad Decent released theirs back in January apparantly and it has the ability to trigger sound effects. It's pretty much just something to either annoy the hell out of people, or be really useful for sound drops during a DJ set. "Demo" by label-head Diplo himself on the video above.

Man, there are more and more interesting iPhone apps coming out. I think this is honestly the first time that professional DJs are doing some legit celebrity endorsements with some quality products. And now, every trance fan's god, Paul van Dyk, has his own app on the iPhone as well.

The app looks pretty useful from the demo PvD himself gives above. The thing has noise level meters (which may or may not work due to the crappy iPhone microphones), a BPM counter, a frequency analyzer that works through the mic (again dunno how that will work).

However the coolest feature has to be the Seismic Reader which lets you place the iPhone/iPod touch on your turntable and see the vibrations coming in so that you can set up Serato or Final Scratch up properly.

Oh and the thing has a virtual glowstick and a flashlight. Go figure.

We don't know when it's coming out or it's price, but I would guess it would be under $12.

Subdrive - the Label

After many years of running this site, I'm super excited to announce that we have officially formed an open-source digital record label launching TODAY.

When we set out to create the label, we thought of what needed to be changed in the industry, how the artists could interact more with the fans, and vice-versa. The blogs have created a whole new way for the fans to critique and share music, dealing directly with artists. But the one thing that was missing was that though a lot of the music was free, it was all one-sided. Beyond the artist giving a free track to the blog, who in turn gave it to readers and fans worldwide, thats where the process ended.

Today we're announcing that with every single Subdrive release, we plan to include 100% DRM-free stems from the single. These are also available in the highest-quality possible, and by buying them, you are directly supporting the artists. We don't take a cut of these sales at all. We want everyone, not just producers and professionals, to have the oppotunity to try their hand at a remix. And if we hear something we like, we'll release it and give a cut of the profit to the remixer!

We will also always have a free edit in 320kbps MP3 covered under the Creative Commons Share-alike license for anyone and every blog to download.

So to inaugurate our first release, I'm extremely proud and excited to share with you all the debut single, "DTF", from our first signing, Terror Dactel. Pick up the DJ friendly 6 minute original mix on May 19th when the track drops on iTunes worldwide followed by releases on Beatport and Juno.

For the past few months, Adam Freeland has been pushing the first single, "Under Control", from his new band, Freeland. With remixes from Alex Metric, Zombie Nation, and others, the debut single has already gotten lots of blog love and attention. Well today we've got the music video for the single and it truly adds a whole new dimension and energy to the track. Just imagine it live folks! Really psyched for this record, it's shaping up to be a big one. Catch it out this June on Freeland's own Marine Parade.

Mongolian Mixtape Marathon

Our friends from the UK-based blog Noise Porn are doing something amazing this summer. They're embarking on 10,000 mile drive from London to Mongolia, crossing Europe, central Asia and culminating with a dash across the Gobi Desert.

WOW.

If that's not crazy enough, they have over 800 hours of drive time to kill! As these guys are music nuts, they've started the Mongolian Mixtape Marathon to collect monetary donations alongside DJ mixes from around the world. Every donation received will go towards charity as well as repairs to the vehicle they're driving, which is also being donated.

So how do you come in? Hit up the website and make a donation of at least £1, then drop in all your info and submit your DJ mix. The guys receive this, put all the mixes together and listen to them all the way to Mongolia. Not only that, all the submitted mixes are going to be available to the world to download and stream via the Mixtape Marathon podcast.

We're really excited to be a part of this amazing project and have been working alongside our friends at Solution Nine for the past few months to design and develop the very technology behind the Mixtape Marathon project podcast and website. Our goal is to make this the largest and most successful mixtape project for charity ever.

It's really rare that an endeavor for charity like this is seen in our corner of the music world, so get your ass in gear and donate a mix!

TONIGHT: Bag Raiders US Debut @ Famous Friends in Brooklyn!

Our good friends at the Famous Friends crew are throwing another fantastic party tonight in Brooklyn at Europa with none other than Australia's BAG RAIDERS, and this is their first US show ever! It's called the Turbo Love Tour, and the FF crew loved them so much they helped book the majority of the tour in the US.

The night is also rounded out by sets from Nightshifters runner, Jubilee, Kap10Kurt (DJ Set), and the Rude Crew DJing which probably includes that bear we see at parties around town.

This event is 18+ and its just $10! Doors open up at 10pm, see ya there!
