If you are using Blogger, please make this change:

To ensure that your blog appears at or near the top of the feed when you publish, go to Blogger's Settings and change the Time Zone to [UTC+00:00] Greenwich Meantime.

Typepad, Wordpress, etc., don't have to do a thing.

I've reset the time to GMT for this blog and when I published it appeared on top of the feed. I've heard from a couple of people who have had trouble making this change. But Blogger does allow the time zone to be changed ....

We love Blogger, because Blogger loves us.

Google spelled backward is elgoog, which is the word used to describe an igloo that's melting as a result of global warming.

The purpose of this post is to test time zone settings in the live feed. Or, if a fan of Next Generation, it's called time shifting.

If you are using Blogger, please make this change:

To ensure that your blog appears at or near the top of the feed when you publish, go to Blogger's Settings and change the Time Zone to [UTC+00:00] Greenwich Meantime.

This only applies to Blogger users. Typepad, Wordpress, etc., don't have to do a thing.

I doubt many will post today, but more and more people are upgrading to the Blogger bebeta (although it's no longer considered a beta). Once you make this move, a change in your settings is needed.

Our note about it:

Some people who upgrade to the Blogger Beta are finding that their post appears four hours down in the feed. That can be fixed with this change:

To ensure that your blog appears at or near the top of the feed when you publish, go to Blogger's Settings and change the Time Zone to [UTC+00:00] Greenwich Meantime. Once that change is made, republish your blog. This time zone change will compensate for the time posting problem and when you publish a new post it should appear at or near the top of the feed. That's all you need to do.

This next part is optional, but you may want to change the time stamp in Settings to just show the date instead of a time, for instance, Tuesday, December 31, 2006. Here's something else you can do. At the bottom of each post, you will see "Post Options. Just before you publish your latest post, change the time to reflect the current time. Your post, when it appears on the feed, should show the time you select.

To fix that, and ensure that your blog appears at or near the top of the feed when you publish, go to Blogger’s Settings and change the Time Zone to [UTC+00:00] Greenwich Meantime. Once that change is made, republish your blog. This time zone change will compensate for the time posting problem and when you publish a new post it should appear at or near the top of the feed. That’s all you need to do.

This next part is optional, but you may want to change the time stamp in Settings as well to just show date, for instance, Tuesday, November 21 2006. You don’t have to do this, but at the bottom of your post you will see “Post Options. Just before you publish put in the current time. So if its 12:30 p.m. put that in. Your post, when it appears on the feed, should show the time you select.

We are working on a fix that will automatically correct for the time zone issue we’ve been having with the Blogger Beta, but I don’t know when that work will be completed. In the meantime, a simple adjustment of the time zone will solve this problem.

A note to DC Bloggers with blogs in the dcblogs live feed and using the the Blogger beta or want to upgrade.

What's been happening is that people who upgrade to the blogger beta are finding that their post appears on the live feed, but four hours down.

Here's something you can do to fix that (Note -- ONLY MAKE THIS CHANGE IF YOU HAVE UPGRADED TO BETA):

Go to blogger's Settings

-- Change the Time Zone from EST to [UTC+00:00] Greenwich Meantime. Republish your blog. This will compensate and your post will appear at the top of the feed.

-- Optional: Change your time stamp formate to just show date, for instance, Monday, November 20 2006.

-- On your post: At the bottom of your post you will see "Post Options. Just before you publish put in the current time. So if its 12:30 p.m. put that in. Your post, when it appears on the feed, should show the time you select.

We are working on a fix that will automatically do this and allow you to leave your timezone at EST, but I don't know when that work will be completed. In the meantime, a simple adjustment of the time zone will solve this problem.
