This year we're performing an original rock opera, with all-new songs and all-new awesomeness. You should really come along and see it.

We're on the road for the 2008 University Orientation tour, along with Jeremy Elwood, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, and Steve Wrigley. Dates are to the right - feel free to come along if and when we get to your town.

We're also doing a few other shows while on tour, including a gig at Fat Eddies in Christchurch, and a few at the Classic in Auckland. Hopefully we'll see you there...

We're performing at the World Buskers Festival in Christchurch at the moment - and our gig on Tuesday night at the Sumner Standup Series in the Sumner Community Centre was reviewed in the Christchurch Press on Wednesday.

Given that we've continued to have full houses since then, I believe we might have found a quote for our Comedy Festival poster this year:

We had our opening night of ROCK 101 in Wellington last night, and we reckon it went really well, despite some first show speed wobbles and technical issues.

It means that we've only got three nights left in Wellington - so make sure you book tickets before it's too late and your only chance to learn to rock is to fly to Auckland and see our show there.

And if you're in Auckland you should totally book tickets anyway.

Learn how to transform your skanky hairbrush into a shiny mic

Cult heroes of musical comedy mrs.peacock will teach fans how to rock with their brand new NZ International Comedy Festival show, ROCK 101.

The duo, who have been nominated for the 2007 Billy T James Award, will provide a comprehensive lesson in rocking, covering such important areas as Rock Musicianship, Rock Poses and Rock Faces, Dealing with Groupies, Performing Under the Influence, and more.

Audience members will have the opportunity to fully participate in the show, joining mrs.peacock members Jarrod Baker and Dave Smith on stage to gain hands-on rock experience.

So if you have ever sung Def Leppard into your hairbrush, played air guitar to Guns ‘n’ Roses or dreamed of being a rock star this show will help you make your dreams come true.

Jarrod Baker

Jarrod Baker is one half of musical comedy act mrs.peacock, one third of musical comedy act The Suave Jockeys, and the only member of non-musical comedy act Jarrod Baker.

Jarrod is also the current President of the New Zealand Comedy Guild. So far, he has yet to grope any interns or start any wars while in this role.

When not doing comedy Jarrod has been known to act, write, be on the radio, and make the web comic Newtown Ghetto Anger which appears on Public Address and the non-web comic Cone of Science which appears in Salient Magazine.

Dave Smith

One half of musical comedy duo mrs.peacock, and a talented solo performer in his own right, Dave Smith has been on the comedy scene since 1998.

A graduate of EIT’s drama programme, Dave is the resident technician at Auckland’s Classic Comedy Bar, and until recently was the drummer for punk band Galloping Hooves of the Apocalypse.

A prolific songwriter, Dave is also a former star of reality television, having appeared as a competitor on TV2’s "So You Think You're Funny?"

Dave likes to spend his days playing his guitar, smoking cigarettes and writing about himself in third person.

Comedy-rock duo mrs.peacock (Jarrod Baker and Dave Smith) formed in 2000 and quickly became cult favourites on the Wellington comedy scene with their killer combination of sweet melodies and filthy lyrics.

The duo's reputation for offensiveness garnered them the "most offensive gag" gong at the NZ Comedy Guild Awards in 2005, and in 2006 they took out the same category at the Wellington Comedy Awards.

It's not all filth, however - mrs.peacock also do a nice line in musical parody and consider love songs a particular specialty. You know, for the ladies. What's more, they were the winners of the prestigious Billy T Award for 2007.

If you haven't caught mrs.peacock before, you're in for a treat. And if you have you'll probably be in the front row, singing along.

Reviews have got to be the best part of the Festival. We just love them. There's nothing like the opinion of someone who didn't pay to come to your show and probably isn't part of your target demographic to really warm the cockles of your heart.

Actually we've never had a festival show reviewed before (aside from a one line gripe from Lynn Freeman in the Capital Times about having to miss our show because we didn't start on time) so this is quite a novel experience.

Firstly, Jess Manins of the Lumiere Reader has given us a rather nice review - though she does take issue with the number of poos and wees jokes in our set. In response we'd like to point out that poos and wees are nothing to be embarassed or uncomfortable about. Everybody does them. Even people who've been in terrible accidents and have to use some sort of poo-bag apparatus.

And Simon Sweetman gave us an absolutely glowing review in the Dominion Post, the highlight of which is above. Thanks Simon - you'll always have a special place in our hearts (the full review is not online, but will be posted in comments).

[UPDATE 2]: We've also had an indifferent review from Melody Nixon at Lumiere (who says what we did, but doesn't mention how well we did it - although she did say that our melodies were "sweet"), as well as a a somewhat less than nice one from Kate Chapman at the same site.

Kate says that our "lyrics were not particularly amusing". I guess that's what we get for trying to address the issues. The haters just don't understand that we're doing it all for the kids.
