Flowers, Nursery Closed

Unfortunately, Featherwinds will not be operating their nursery this year. Normally, in the past, Featherwinds has operated Mountain Bounty Nursery. This is a nursery the owners and staff of Featherwinds started several years ago. With the growing demand from local and visiting friends and guests, Featherwinds increased its growing operation by over 200% from each previous year. Unfortunately, we will not be operating our nursery this year; fortunately it is because of our commitments to weddings, events and retreats scheduled for this spring, summer and fall. These commitments have to take precedent to our growing operation. We will not be taking down our "green house", "holding area" or our "sales area". We have not decided if closing the Nursery will be for just this year or if is going to be a permanent closure.

Thank you for your understanding and thank you for making our Nursery one of the biggest and most successful in the area.

Spring Is Coming, Snow Is Leaving

Even though we have been receiving snow lately, the much warmer daytime temperatures have melted most of the snow. The grass is starting to turn green and grow, bulbs are breaking ground and birds are returning to the area. The sun is out and temperatures are on the rise!

Fishing, hiking, horseback riding are all activities offered in the Upper Valley just outside of Leavenworth, Washington. If you are looking to get in that last snowshoe trip, you better hurry! Want to hit the slopes for that last ski or snowboard run, now is the time. Although conditions are starting to warm, there are some areas still open and available for snowshoeing, skiing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

You can stay at Featherwinds Lodging, then enjoy the day in the great outdoors or maybe take in a shopping trip to the Bavarian town of Leavenworth. Enjoy the sounds of birds as they return for the spring and summer. Watch for wildlife as they start to move around and explore the "new" surroundings.

We have recently uploaded a few wedding cake pictures to our live blog site. The pictures are just a few examples of the custom wedding cakes Featherwinds has made for weddings. Our wedding cakes are made fresh and designed for the bride and groom. No two wedding cakes are designed the same. Even when the same cake top is used (supplied by bride and groom) the cakes are different.

Be sure to check out the Peacock cake. This cake is one many specialty custom wedding cakes. Our cakes can be of a basic design to very elaborate design. We will be uploading more cakes pictures while we are re-designing our wedding cake web page.

ß News Flash à More Snow!

Over the weekend we received about 5" of new snow. Winter is not over yet; it is still hanging on. Last week we were getting "normal" springtime snow; fluffy, big, wet flakes. The springtime type snow came a little early (about 2 weeks); snow in the morning then warmth and sunshine during the day.

However, this weekend we received small, dry flakes reminiscent of a Christmas Eve snow storm. Current weather reports indicate the possibility of more snow and cold temperatures. If you enjoy the outdoors and snow sports, this could be a last chance to for winter time fun.

Here in the Lake Wenatchee, Leavenworth Upper Valley there are snowmobiling trails, cross country ski trails, snowshoeing and skiing available. If weekends are to busy to get away, try a mid-week adventure. Featherwinds does have lodging available in our B & B style Guest Inn, our Bed and Breakfast, in our lodges and cabins.

Spring is on its way. Lately we have had a mix of snow, rain, and sunshine. This is normally a good sign that spring is coming. We are starting to book for a lot of summer time get aways in our lodges and cabins. If you are thinking about a quick mini vacation of a couple days or an extended vacation, you may want to consider booking now.

Here at Featherwinds we have 3 cabins/lodges. All three are fully furnished homes featuring a full kitchen and outdoor hot tubs. During the summer, each lodge has an outdoor barbeque for guests to utilize. All of our cabins, lodges, and bed and breakfasts are all located on connecting 23 acres. We have staff on hand 24/7 to handle any questions or concerns you may have during your stay. If you are not familiar with our area, the host at the Guest Inn and B & B are happy to assist you with maps or information about the Lake Wenatchee Upper Valley. Remember, we are not in downtown Leavenworth, but we are located about 14 miles from town in the Upper Valley recreation area.

News Flash, Leavenworth Lodging, Snowing

ß News Flash à It's snowing again! There is still time to hit the slopes.

Yes, it is snowing again, here in the Upper Valley in the Wenatchee Recreation Area, just outside of Leavenworth, WA. Not much snow is coming down, but fresh snow does bring the thought of enjoying any of the winter sports. If you are a skier, snowboarder, and snowmobiler or like to enjoy any winter sport; time is almost up for your outdoor enjoyment. We have had up to 40 degree weather lately; we have lost a lot of snow so if you keep putting off that last and final ski trip of the year, you better hurry.

So far today we have received about a ½ inch of fresh snow; it's not a lot but it sure makes everything look pretty. Maybe it's time to put together a group of friends for an outing filled with winter fun and relaxation. You can book a lodge or cabin for your group at Featherwinds. We are only about 30 minutes from Stevens Pass Resort. Spend the day skiing or snowboarding at Stevens Pass, then return to Featherwinds and enjoy a relaxing evening with your family and friends. Remember to bring your swim suit, our lodges and cabins have outdoor hot tubs to aid in your relaxation and fun. Fully furnished lodges including a full kitchen including pots and pans, plates and flatware, etc are perfect for a group gathering. And we must remember, all the cabins and lodges have gas fireplaces to enhance your relaxing stay.

Our Romantic Weekend includes it all; dozen roses, special gift package, romantic dinner for two and a two night stay. Our Romantic Weekend truly is a romantic time to remember. The romantic, succulent dinner includes: personal, 6.5oz filet mignon, pastry wrapped Beef (or chicken) Wellington, vegetables such as cardamom carrots and asparagus, appetizers, tasty, fresh garden salad and dressing, sparkling beverage, and ending with the signature cake, topped with fresh roses and sparkling cider along the side. Guests often come for a weekend and come back as a family to enjoy our area and our very special town and it's setting.

Just to be in these beautiful Cascade Mountains of Washington is one of the incredible gifts of our life that actually started with the first Christmas Lighting Festival many years ago when our children were little and my parents purchased the first property here in this recreation area for the family to enjoy.

One can never determine where the journey will take you but ours started with the actual first of our facilities, Featherwinds Bed and Breakfast. It began as we endeavored to serve the best, freshest and wholesome foods that we could and ultimately seemed to bring people back again and again. Return guests often request a breakfast or dessert they had enjoyed on a prior visit. On all weekends except holiday, festival and wedding weekends, a complimentary breakfast is delivered to our cabins. Early on we started our Cake and Champagne complimentary offering with a two night stay for anniversaries and birthdays. We found it to be tremendously successful. We have since changed to sparkling cider; however guests can bring an alcohol beverage if desired. Fresh roses, beautiful white linen with sparkling stemware with silver flatware, and a gentleman not knowing how to impress his special lady, just tipped the scale in his favor to be sure! This beautiful and delicious specialty would be delivered to their suite when they were out for the evening and always is a welcome surprise to both upon their return.

With the cake and sparkling beverage surprise we started with, we have incorporated it into the Inn that we built five years ago. The Cake and Cider is still a favored gift from us for many on a two-night stay here at Featherwinds. This gift can also be enhanced with a dozen roses and a special gift package as well if requested.

Leavenworth Lodging, Events, Winter Travel

If your weekend get away brings you to Leavenworth, WA, remember, winter driving conditions exist.

Although there is only a little snow in the passes, snowfall has been little and far between, conditions can and do change at a moments notice. Be prepared; do not get caught in a winter storm.

Be prepared. Carry chains and know how to install them. Always travel the passes with a full tank of gas; you never know if you will be stopped on the pass. Carry a first aid kit and road flares. Have a map of the area you are traveling, don't rely solely on GPS navigational systems. Carry an extra change of warm clothes and keep a blanket or two in your vehicle. If you have a cell phone, bring it with you and make sure the cell phone is fully charged.

If you are spending the night, make your reservations BEFORE traveling. Festival weekend accommodations fill quickly and early in the year. You may need to book a month or two in advance (if not sooner). This is NOT UNCOMMON. You may want to verify your reservation BEFORE traveling, request a confirmation notice upon booking.

If the lodging facility you are booked at provides directions and/or a map, bring a copy with you when you travel. Check road conditions with the Department of Transportation (DOT) BEFORE you travel.

Remember, most lodging facilities list mileage distance and/or travel time from popular landmarks or cities. The travel time listed is normal drive time during average conditions. If you are not familiar with the area, it may take you longer to travel. Weather conditions may also add to travel time.

Please drive carefully and enjoy your trip to Leavenworth Washington and the Leavenworth Upper Valley.

Remember, Featherwinds Lodging is located about half way between Leavenworth and Stevens Pass Ski Resort. We do book rather quickly, so reserve your accommodations now, don't wait.

We are a wonderful place to relax at after a fun filled day shopping and exploring Leavenworth or after a day on the slopes.

Featherwinds Bed and Breakfast

It is that time a year again; the cold mornings, frost and dew on the grass and rooftops, leafs are changing colors (bright yellows, reds and browns), the deer can be found eating apples off the trees, the hint of winter coming is in the air.

That means it is time to close the hot tub and swimming pool for the season. As of October 18th, the outdoor pool and outdoor hot tub at the Bed and Breakfast are closed. We will not be maintaining them during the winter; they have been drained and winterized. However, if you are booking or have booked accommodations in one of our three lodges/cabins/vacation homes, those hot tubs are and will be running all year round.

If you are planning to stay at the Bed and Breakfast, and would like a jetted tub, we do have one room, the Main Floor Suite, that has a in-room jetted, two person tub. Please keep in mind during festival weekends, we book out fast and long in advance. For during the week stays, we do book out but not as fast as for the weekends.
