It seems the more stones one turns over in the Stimulus Bill - the more creepy the critters that seem to crawl out. The latest is well hidden provision detailed in an article by Byron York:

"The provision, which attracted virtually no attention in the debate over the 1,073-page stimulus bill, creates something called the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board — the RAT Board, as it’s known by the few insiders who are aware of it. The board would oversee the in-house watchdogs, known as inspectors general, whose job is to independently investigate allegations of wrongdoing at various federal agencies, without fear of interference by political appointees or the White House.

In the name of accountability and transparency, Congress has given the RAT Board the authority to ask “that an inspector general conduct or refrain from conducting an audit or investigation.” If the inspector general doesn’t want to follow the wishes of the RAT Board, he’ll have to write a report explaining his decision to the board, as well as to the head of his agency (from whom he is supposedly independent) and to Congress. In the end, a determined inspector general can probably get his way, but only after jumping through bureaucratic hoops that will inevitably make him hesitate to go forward." Boys and girls, there truly is a RAT (the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board — the RAT Board) crawling into the politics of big money which hinders (if not all but removes) accountability from the Porkulus Bill rushed and shoved down the pocket books of an unsuspecting America - for generations to come (if allowed to stand).

...[T]he RAT Board the authority to ask “that an inspector general conduct or refrain from conducting an audit or investigation.”

That is a ton of power granted ... not only to launch an investigation - but to control the inspector general so as to cause him/her to "refrain from conducting an audit or investigation.”

This is scary stuff - that's my take and instant analysis on the matter (no extra charge).

This morning I was singing some old songs when some old Bob Ayala lyrics came to mind and mouth, "... Lost, alone, a drift, I thought I'd always be, like the captain of a ship upon a raging sea...." As you can see, I kinda found the memory of the song "Journey" mid lyric - it took me a while of singing to find the beginning, middle, and end of the song.

While I was rummaging around my memory - another Ayala song came to mind.

I've been sick as of late - my hands are swollen and painful - just a few weeks ago I was so weak and my knees were so hurt that I could not stand up without help. I've known Vanya (Ivan “Vanya” Moiseyev) since the mid-1970's - recounting his story on my bed many nights - thinking of him as a brother ... an older brother that I would meet someday ... and seek to be like today and the rest of my life.

Vanya ("Little Ivan" I think) suffered for his faith, was strengthened by God, and ministered to by angels - Me? I am currently just suffering a bit because of illness. Yet, I feel a kindred comfort in remembering Vanya and especially through this song I love so dearly - and have sung so many times on my journey.

The following lyrics just say it so well:

"For we're all pilgrims this we know
Refugees of a world that's lost it's soul"

People all say that I look so much better now ... the color has returned to my face ... but, I am still facing being Diabetic and this other chronic illness which is marked by random recurrent attacks on my cartilage by my own body. Quite a few people have said to me, "you looked like you were dying." Looks can be deceiving - either way.

I don't feel so wonderful ... just happy and free.

I suppose that's paradoxical - it's like Vanya when he was ordered out of bed in the dead of a Russian winter - night after night he stood at attention wearing only his summer clothing:

"And as you stood there in the snow
Dressed only in your summer clothes
Your captors could not feel the fire
Or see the flame that warmed you through those nights"

or as Paul wrote so eloquently,

2 Corinthians 4:16
16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self [1] is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.

I am not sure what's happening to my body (my outward man) these days ... but, everyday - on the inside ... I am newer.

Right now it humbles me to think that someone is being martyred for their faith in Jesus (that name so many - even Christians - seem to avoid saying ... ever wonder why?) and it shames me too - I complain or am put out by such simple and passing little things. Right this moment, someone is making that solitary stand and taking that solo journey of suffering for Christ ... Just like Vanya did ...

We may never be asked or called upon to take such a stand and our solo journey from this place may be in olden gray haired days ... but, we do share something - if we're "In Christ" - we know that kindred spirit of being pilgrims and refugees of a world that's lost its soul.

The Pope stays focused while meeting with Pelosi:

A short statement from the Vatican said the pope "briefly greeted" Pelosi and
did not mention any other subject they may have discussed besides abortion.

In their 15-minute meeting, the Vatican said Benedict spoke of the
church's teaching "on the dignity of human life from conception to natural
death." That is an expression often used by the pope when expressing opposition
to abortion.

Benedict said all Catholics - especially legislators,
jurists and political leaders - should work to create "a just system of laws
capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development," the Vatican
said.

Pelosi, for her part, did not even mention the pope's allusion to

I want to weigh in on the Stimulus Package / Bill. Please! is it too late to stop it?!!!

My honest position is "Please do nothing U.S. Government!" Tax breaks and incentives done by clearing the way for growth - would be nice. But, if it's a zero sum game - then please do nothing.

I'll post more later, but for now - I hate this feeling of watching what appears to be a collective groups assembling on a ledge and preparing to jump or what appears to be firemen trucking hoses and loads of gasoline to pour on a burning building.

We don't need no stimulation!

Ice Storm, the googe ban, uncertainty

In Louisville we got socked by a nasty ice storm. Power's still out - and we wait to see when the phone line and the power line to our house is laying buried in limbs, ice, and snow. They said it might be 10 days - 2 weeks. Let's hope not.

I am using this down time to try and remove all the bad links from my blog (which has me banned from google). I am not sure why I am doing that - I could leave the blog and move along. But, I have become very curious to see what effect it has to have been on google, then off google, and hopefully to be returned to googleville. have over 200 more post to clean up.

Oh, why was I banned on google? I signed up for this certain affiliate program - one that kept good stats on clicks and conversions. I thought the program was fairly benign - not thinking I'd make a dime - I did want to test certain things about ads on a blog (I do use this as a test blog to help me when building websites, etc.). The click rate was not horrid nor great -about 2.7% of all traffic. The conversion rate was so low as to register nil.

Well, this is the second major weather blast in KY within 5 months. Life is, by nature, open to the uncertain - we sometimes just have to take and roll with what comes our way.

The Devil: Hey kids! I'm on TV now! Christian Television!!!

OK, call me stupid - but I do not think this is the best advertising campaign for a christian television network.

A campaign debuting Wednesday will use the devil to pitch the rebranding of a New York religous cable service, The Prayer Channel, into NET (New Evangelism Television).

According to a spokesman for LA-based agency Cesario Migliozzi, which is handling the rebranding campaign, TV and radio spots featuring the devil as an "anti-spokesperson" will begin running Dec. 3 and will include MySpace and Facebook pages, a web site www.StopGoodTV.com and NYC bus advertising (the channel is on Time Warner Cable and Cablevision). The spots feature a "vertically challenged" devil trying to warn viewers off the channel. (read it all)

1000 reason why it is not the best idea - even when one can see the intentions (even good ones) for trying to use this strategy.

I think of it just about the same as those billboards signed by God. I got nothing against the message (of some of them at least - maybe most of them at least). However, the billboards make it look like anyone can stick words in God's mouth.

Now, if you don't believe in God - of course that your position. But, for those of us who actively follow God - it's absurd (maybe even dangerously stupid in some cases ... maybe?). The message comes off as if the person who put up the billboard doesn't believe there's a real God with a real voice - a real God who is there and who has been and is in communication with humanity.

Now, this TV network makes the Devil seem like a cartoon character or some "Hey, Kids!" character on children's programing.

BTW, the Devil is not the equal nor the opposite of God as in some yin yang schema - that's classical dualism which is not Christianity. But, christians do believe there is a real Devil (and "his minions" as the site describes them).

Maybe this television network doesn't believe in the real Satan?

It's been said before - something like, the greatest act of the Devil was to get people to believe he doesn't exist (some famous person said that - just cannot remember who at present - and I'll not let google take over my total use of memory - otherwise I'll need some kind of feed in me old noggin' before it's over).

Anyway, now it looks like the Devil's got a television network to help him convince people that he doesn't exist.

Think about it - is moral evil an impersonal force floating about our planet?

Think about it.

Big 3 Bail Out! Save my Job or Save my Company

Out here in the West - we worship our cars - and we need them too.

As a basic reaction, I am against the Auto-Industry Bailout (the Big Three Bailout) because it seems like giving a drink of water to a drowning man. I thought I had a handle on the situation - but this is a huge mess - one not easily solved. Currently, it appears more like a plane in a nose dive with not much sky left.

I had composed, in my head, a "Save My Car Company" post. It was based upon the ideas of:

Viewing the car company as a conglomerate - which gives the freedom to cut no essentials and to focus on the essential core of the business needed to be absolutely saved.
Selling inventory as cheaply as possible and funneling that "cash" to those essential aspects of the essentials chosen above as ruthlessly and quickly as possible.
Focusing on the future, ala, Chrysler with the K-car, etc. - going back to roots and envisioning the flood of the market with cheaper - but quality cars.

And there was a bit more...

However, as I study the situation I find several things which even my simplistic approach cannot fix.

U.S. automakers already are beating foreign competition at most counts. It's not sales that rank as the top bleeding wound for the automakers.
These car companies have the force of unions as a third party in any deal they make. They truly do not own their companies with enough force to correct their problems.
Feeding them, "Bail Out" money would be like feeding a stray cat - it's going to come back for more.

As I read and study - I notice the rhetoric (if not the actual agenda) here is "Save Jobs." My father wants the bail out because there's so many people who ride the very long tail of GM - just to name one auto company. There's even more in the big 3 - more people who make a living in the chain of those companies. Such a loss of jobs would rock the U.S. and our economy.

He also uses what I call "The Olympic Theory" which is a belief that other countries subsidize their auto industry. Like the days when Olympic athletes from countries outside the U.S. used to be state supported "professional" athletes - people in the U.S. would say, "how can you really expect us to compete with them?!!"

So, there's a bit of an opinion piece or a look at my current thinking on the matter. I am not sure about much of anything at this point. There are more factors which I barely have had time to dig into.

So, my gut is against the auto industry bail out - and my mind is skeptical about rescuing the cars companies (or even if the rescue would work). I am already spun crazy at Paulsen's not buying any "toxic assets" during this period when that was his mission. Instead, we find him forcing banks to sign agreements and spending money there.

As it appears that "saving jobs" is the big goal I keep hearing - I keep thinking that a leader works to defend the Vision. To me that would be, "Save the Company," since what good are "jobs" when there is no company.

Very perplexing this auto industry tale is.

No One at Noone - misspelled Words

When kitty dinner time was changed - no one expected this!!!

One of the most misspelled words I have kept coming across since I've been online seems to be where people use, "noone" for "no one." I thought for a long time that I possibly was ignorant of the proper spelling of "no one" and kept my mouth shut.

I think it is a good rule of thumb to not pick on people for typos or misspellings when communicating online. It's "poor form" to point out such - I even dislike the use of (sic) in quotes. Leave the misspelling or silently correct it in your quote - that's my method. Everybody types a wrong word, a misspelling, or just continues in spelling habit. It's secondary to communication online - in my book anyway.

However, "no one" is two words. It is not like "nobody" vs. "no body" which each have different meanings. It is not like "any one" vs. "anyone" which also have two meanings and are separate words. "Noone" might be some older form of English for the word, "noon." It does not, however, mean "no one."

Here is a little device to help one remember:
no one - Let no one tell you this is one word; it is always two.

I cannot find "noone" used in canadian nor british spellings - though I often encounter this spelling from canadian or brit speaking people.

Well,this one comes from my uncle through me pops. The fwd files - just those occasional forwarded emails that I find blog worthy.

Thanksgiving Divorce

A man in Phoenix calls his son in New York two days before Thanksgiving and says,

"I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough."

"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the father says,
"We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her."

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.
"Like heck they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this!"

She calls Phoenix immediately, and screams at her father, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife,

"Okay," he says, "they're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way. Hee hee hee!"

What a classic song - with a classic album cover too. The lyrics are, at once, lovely and harsh, the music goes old school sonic at the end. It's a razor's edge song topically, the Second Coming, the sheep and goats, goats like Judas who betrayed Him with a kiss. It's not a fluffy song by any shake of the imagination, nor a pleasant repast for the mind while the senses drift along the well crafted performance of the music.

A Toast to Your Victory Good Sir - Now On to Oppose Much of What You'll Do!

Yeah, after being right about every presidential election in my conscious memory (with the exception of one I did not make a pick) I find myself now a part of the loyal opposition.

Loyal opposition is the concept that one can be opposed to the actions of the government or ruling party of the day without being opposed to the constitution of the political system (wikipedia).

I may have to pull back from my "political junkie" listening and viewing for a bit - because I have never been fond of Monday morning quarterbacking.

As I recently wrote:

I will not be happy with Obama winning - and I will work against the proposals he makes which cut against my values. But, should he win, I will honor him as President. I would go to war and count him my commander in chief... We can disagree - we can work for our values - but we offer no person power in this country for more than 8 years tops.

So, unlike the faces of people all aglow around the world that I saw on my television set this morning ... I am not happy with the outcome of this election.

It's simply time to retool, for me, and to begin to work a bit harder championing those things which are dear to me and working to see the values which I hold to become more powerful in the hearts and minds of the American people.

I'll be writing more Loyal Opposition posts as time passes. There I will seek to spell out what I stand for in this world.

Funny thing, as the world shifts largely to the right - the US begins what can only be described as a shift towards the left.

i honestly thought that Virgina would the "Florida" of the election 2008 - but it appears that I was wrong.

Here's to the future. John McCain was gracious and a gentleman in his concession speech. Obama has won and I offer him congratulations on his victory.

We have elected our first black man as president - that is a good thing.
We have also elected our first real leftist (not liberal - but leftist) to office - and that, to me, is a bad thing.

I also will be removing the candidates.amung.us badge from my side bar in a week - unless they come up with some other cool use for it.

Election Day Tips for McCain Voters

I predict McCain

#1. Vote - Don't forget to vote, or let something get in the way of your vote. I've had bosses who have been caught up in the everyday tyranny of the urgent and have asked me to come in early, work through lunch, stay late on election days. Remind yourself that there will always be a crisis at work, you can come back and help after voting, and let your boss, supervisor, etc., know that you need to vote and you'll be there ASAP. Actually, I've been my own boss a few times - when the daily crisis hit on election day - and I've had to remind myself that I have a duty and a job as a citizen to vote.

Actually, on this election day, I'll be leaving work (8:00 AM), going to get my wife from the poll and giving her the car to go to work, and then getting a ride to a dentist appointment. Only, after that I'll be getting dropped off to vote and then walk home.

As Rocky once said, "If I'ze can do it, then U'ze can do it!"

#2. Ignore the polls, the news projections, the state polls that have already closed. Act as if your vote is the one which could decide the race.

#3. Remember the last two elections. Your vote is not canceled out by FA, or WV, or OH, or anything else. Go to the polls and vote. It might be close - and the results might not come in until after a long night or longer (as in days). So, vote.

Not the most brilliant post I've ever written - but I do consider it to be a truthful post and simply wise.

I support McCain. But, I am an American first. So, anyone should take this advice even if they support Obama (I don't want them to - but of course it's true they should). I am not even sure this election will be over when it's supposedly over. Maybe that's the result of a 2 year campaign - something we need to remedy - it's ridiculous the position we've been put in by states wanting to hold primaries earlier. It's just hard to believe this one will stop.

My time has run out - off to work I go. I hope that most Americans will take the sober path of our system. I will not be happy with Obama winning - and I will work against the proposals he makes which cut against my values. But, should he win, I will honor him as President. I would go to war and count him my commander in chief. I would hope those who wake up to a McCain presidency would do the same. We can disagree - we can work for our values - but we offer no person power in this country for more than 8 years tops.

I confess. Senator Obama's two tax promises: to limit tax increases to only those making over $250,000 a year, and to not raise taxes on 95% of "working Americans," intrigued me. A short post on a google halloween result

This is a short post. First, I saw google's halloween image this year. I usually don't click them - but for some unknown reason I did.

Then I saw, what I think, is one of the dumber (trying not to use the word 'stupid'), search results (page names) that I have ever seen:

Date of Halloween for year date 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010

I mean, halloween falls on October 31 of any given year ... and yet I looked at the link - thinking maybe, just maybe there is something I don't know - maybe there's some oddball halloween date ... and I thought to myself, "Of course not. There is only one day for halloween and All Saints Day which follows. All Hallows Day is preceded by All Hallows Eve (een).

And I clicked the link - to find...

You can click it - there's no joke there, no odd thing, only a page showing what any child would know - Halloween comes on October 31.

Thus ends this short - useless trip down google search results.

NBC Abandons SendMeRss Users

NBC is a slum lord ... closing sendmerss without notice

Yeah, I was using Rmail - a great Blog to Email system.

Rmail was purchased by NBC.

I began to notice something strange about SendMeRss as owned by NBC and wrote about it in this post: Mostbloggers In Your Email - "What gives Einstein?"

I learned a great deal - which you can see in the above post (for the most part).

Now, without announcement, without leaving a page up to explain, without contacting publishers or subscribers - NBC simply shut down SendMeRss and the once, "slum lord" became the "runaway web service."

So, currently I am offering a way to get Mostbloggers in your inbox using Feedburner - and service that is not going away. In the odd chance the feedburner did slip into never never land - I have this confidence that it would not be in the shady way that NBC sent SendMeRss out for bread one night - and it's not coming back.

So, if you were one of those people who were subscribed to Mostbloggers via email or if you would like to begin getting mostbloggers in your email - then simply click this link: Subscribe to Mostbloggers Via Email - follow the instructions (simple) and voila! you'll be signed up.

If you ever run something online - and you end it - I think there should be some rule of thumb - that you announce it - and leave a page up to explain your disappearance. It only makes sense - especially for NBC - who still seems to be trying to get into this internets wild wild web thing - with little success.

The above calculator really doesn't do the math right anyway. Mostly because it's not doing math. Obama's proposed plan does not cut taxes directly. Instead, it give the numbers above as tax credits. So, if you owe nothing in taxes - you'll get $1000.00, $500.00, $250,00, or $34.00 credit applied towards you taxes. It works like this:

You owe $534.00 in taxes

If you get S1000.00 you'll receive a government handout of: $466.00
If you get S500.00 you'll receive a government handout of: $66.00

For those people who already pay no taxes - they will get the $1000.00 or the $500.00 cash handout from the government.

Those concerned about a redistribution of the wealth should easily see that such a plan is a foot in the door for entitlements and disincentives to advance in work.

Now, let's look at how Obama's plan to allow Bush tax cuts to expire works (McCain will not allow the Bush cuts to expire):

Single, 50K $14,000
Single, 75K $23,250
Married, 60K $16,800
Married, 75K $21,000
Married, 125K $38,750

Let's look at McCain's

You can follow the source linked above and see more comparisons between McCain and Obama.

When Obama says, "I'm giving a tax cut to 95%...." and Biden says, "for working families," and Obama says, "for every working American," then you can feel free to say, "It's not a tax cut and your tax credits are made out of taxpayer money." If they're made out of tax payer money? then wouldn't it be sensible to suggest that Obama wants to take your money and give it to someone else - redistribution or spreading it around - it's still taking our money by force (try not paying it) and giving to someone who might or might not deserve it (and how does someone else deserve "my money" earned through "my hours at work"?
