In fact I went to sleep with him snuggled up to me and liking my hand (giving kisses as my friend Angle would say) at around 5 am I got up to use the bathroom and I guess because it was dark (I didn't want to wake up Lisa) but her cat Bitty (as in little bitty this is not a physical description) Started to yaahu and forced his way into the bathroom with me..

We as earlier when we where getting along famously I though he just wanted to say hello...

Yeah that was the second mistake.. Well he the blink of an eye this de-clawed cat was thrashing and biting me and it was all I could do to get him out of the bathroom..

It took some time to stop the bleeding from my right hand and left arm but after 9 bandages and the cat in solitary confinement I tried to get back to sleep.. the Advil helped..

But I will forgive as he was just being protective.. I was exiting the Sbahn in Munich and as usual I was running up the escalator its a simple thing I do often to mostly get away from the people lighting up their cigarets before they get into the open air.. Because it was cold I had my hands in my pockets of my bright orange jacket.. When I caught my toe on a step the first thing that flashed through my head was a memory of my little brother (well he was little at the time) splitting his chin while roller skating on Ila Vista with his hands in this overalls..

When I hit face first all I could hear was a crunching in the nose area. I did happen to get one hand out to try and break my fall but its was too late and it caught on the edge of a step giving me a matching cut to an old injury on the opposite palm.

I rolled up as if I had gone down snowboarding and continued but holding my throbbing nose.. My first fear was the cracking sound that had flashed through my head so I was most worried about having broken my nose. But even though it hurt really bad it was not loose or did the pain increase when I touched it. My eyes where watering and with the cold air I was having trouble seeing I must have looked strange walking from the underground holding my face with tears rolling down my cheek.

My hand was bleeding and as this bright orange jacket I have shows everything it comes in contact with I just kept walking and soon my tear ceased. This could have also been because they froze. I kept walking trying to not to drip too much blood , in retrospect I should have held my hand above my heart as that is what you do with an open flowing injury. but then the blood would have run down my arm to my bright orange jacket..

I made it to the restroom at the venue I was heading for and found to my relief that I didn't do any major damage to my nose it was swollen at the bridge and there where a few marks I guess the impact was quite forceful..

I headed up stairs after washing the cut to my hand found my friends and sat.. Dancing was out of the question as when Andrea brought me a towel with ice my head took the cold and slowed the blood flow creating an instant headache..

This morning when I was thinking about the hole incident I looked at my hat knowing if I hadn't been wearing it the possibility of have received irreparable damage would have been immanent. I found two lines that had indented into the material with quite a bit of force.. When I was on the escalator on my way out I realized its design is to I don't know maybe keep people form slipping when its wet or maybe its just necessary for the internal workings of an escalator but wow can you imagine what my face could have looked like if I hadn't been wearing my hat..

I can.. And trust me with out major facial surgery you may not have been able to recognize me..

Thank you to who ever, what ever is watching over me.. I feel very protected..

Dec 2 2008

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-592669741159889012008-08-15T16:36:00.004Z2008-08-24T21:53:16.104ZStavanger, NorwayYesterday we had a great day of relaxing and watching movies something I really enjoy when I just need to zone out..

Today was different. We got on the road as soon as we had the tent and everything wrapped up as best we could, most of our things where very wet still form the setting up in the rain part of the night before.

A free ferry ride to the other side of the bay and we where back on the Hyw going north. Our first priority was food and we had a long breakfast out side the supermarket, Yoggi and Granola and I'm a happy man. Our plan was to head into Oslo find Tina's sister say a quick hello and keep moving so we would have more time to camp or hike just do what we want.

Before we knew it we had the Norwegian border in front of us and we where trying to decide if we still had things to do in Sweden on the phone and such, when we pulled off at an abandoned restaurant and within minutes and maybe less we had the border patrol on us asking who we where and then checking our papers. I offered my passport but they opted for the license. it was a strange feeling but they assured us there was no real problem. Lasse guessed they where in training. After a short lunch we hit the Norwegian road Lasse happy and fed me wondering "where is the passport check and my stamp for Norway.. I was really looking forward to that. No more then 2 Kl we where flagged down by another set of officers btu their first question was "is this your second check?" "Yes" was of corse our reply as I get a mixed feeling of safety and being kept under control.

the road into Oslo is beautiful the fiord open out in front of you and the view makes it hard to keep your eyes on the road. With smiles on our faces we make a Few U turns to pick up a Hitch Hiking girl holding a sign for Bergen. "We are going there but plan on taking our time" This girl from Eastern Finland started t tell us her reason for needing to get to Bergen by tomorrow (Friday) and next thing we are talking about how much fun we had yesterday sailing around in small boats so to see a start of a race of old 3 and 4 mast ships departing from the west coast of Norway. Boo for making our decision so hard, lets see camping and relaxing in the mountains of Norway maybe hike in a few Kl's. Or get to Bergen have more time with Tina and get to see these all wooden sailing vestals putting out to sea.

Lasse started to become stressed (I can never see it coming) He was bit by a tick in Herrang but was having strange effects. A ring of discoloration stiff neck so after the surprise visit to Mereta we walked a few too many blocks to find a pharmacy and a doctor. Lasse got a blot test and V and I walked back to the van to make things easer. I feel much better knowing Lasse is doing better and he came out of the doctor saying lets go to Bergen tomorrow just camp out along the way tonight.

Tired and dreading the rain we searched many driveways unmarked looking for a place with flat ground a view and a place to swim. Yeah so we are a bit picky but hell with it we're on vacation..We finally found a rest stop where we could block as much of the noise from this small but super busy road way. Our Finish friend was the first to go she told me she didn't actually sleep the night before.

And now its my turn to find my sleeping bag..

Photos form our trip. Norway Photos Day 2

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-56972280863685805022008-08-09T14:36:00.003Z2008-08-24T13:31:23.654ZSweden to Norway Day 1Google map of our trip

Leaving Gothenburg was a funny scene as we both thought the other wanted to stay longer in Gothenburg but we headed out with a photo book inspiring what we might be seeing along the northwestern coast of Sweden.
We had made plans to stop for lunch with a friend from HDC Julia. Her family has a house somewhere on the coast. When we called to ask about directions we where told the give them a time when we would arrive but as this trip is all about enjoying the view we where just taking our time. But they insisted because they need to know when to pick us up in the boat?
It was a great surprise to see Julia one sister and their step moving across the water powered only by the wind. I love sailing so the prospect of just sailing the 100 meters to the other dock was bring a smile to my face. you when we sailed right past the house I thought we where just having a look at some of the island. We actually went strait across the channel. We had a good dat with a great wind but when we pulled into a port after some extensive tacking I was soaked to the bone.
After a wind beaten shaking with semi cold lunch where I left a hefty tip in exchange for one of their blankets we kept. we headed back to the house. This semi Victorian/ Swedish house was filled with ship models and musical instruments. Between the trips to the water and the sauna I really started to feel relaxed and welcomed anything that would come on the rest of our trip, good thing I did..

Our first night on the road and we where having the worst time finding a uninhabited place to pitch our tent. Like the determined Campers we are sleeping in the Van is only a last ditch resort. But as I sit in the tent and my thought are drowned out by the heavy rain I wonder if sleeping in the van might not have been a bad idea..

Photos form the first part of our trip. Norway Photos Part 1

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-85952084690119245172008-06-06T06:57:00.002Z2008-06-06T07:30:48.221ZThe Plan never happens the way its supposed toSo my plans have changed. I guess I was always worried that I would have to change my plans for going to China and Australia. I have been in Europe now for 23 months I'm really enjoying being here I just feel that if I don't get this around the world trip finished I can't settle down anywhere just to up root my self again to keep moving..

But the Beijing 2008 and Bali, Australia trip is postponed till 2009. Why? Well a few reasons. First two major events have happened and are happening in China. First the Earthquake has put a strain on their economy. Then the coming Olympics have changed many things not only the price of everything ie. air fair, food, travel around China, and the one that is cosing me to change my plans is the Visa requirements for everyone coming in. June 1st the Visa requirements changed and I found this out with 17 days before my departure. The basics are I called the China consulate in Berlin and asked what I needed to do to get my Visa for the month of July. Well the response came as a wake of stress. Because I'm an American I can only go through the China consulate in the USA. Now this isn't really a problem I simply send in my passport with my travel plans to a Visa service then they send it back everything would cost a good penny. But because I have excluding weekends only 15 days and I would no longer be in Munich after 8 of those days it would if I did the fastest way possible, 2 days to over night my passport to the US then one day for the service to get the fast Visa then two days to send it back the Visa would cost me $280 and the shipping to and from the US would be $130. Now my flight to China from Milan was only $546.00.

Well because of a recent video project gone all wrong that I helped to finished.. I'm short in my travel fund around $1300.00..

So what to do now? I have to keep my life exciting if not for my self but all you friends that live vicariously through me..

Well I know I said I was not going to Herrang this year, but where else can I got to get some many great dancers in one place.

My goal is to be there for dancing and photography. I'm working on my next book "Lindy Hopin'" and I want to expand this new style of photos I started last year in Herrang.

So the new plan is...
Swing Crash Como Italy after that I have about 10 days before Herrang starts I'm think of doing a bicycle train combo travel from Italy to Sweden should be a good adventure. I'll spend the 4 weeks in Herrang then I'm going to GBLX (Gothenburg lindy exchange) to photograph the exchange. from here I'm going to try and visit the swing scene in Iceland. Yes there is lindy Hop in Reykjavík. I would spend about a week or more there.
Then I want to visit my father in the US and it will look good for me to go back to the USA before returning to Munich to do a new series of instructional DVD's for Marcus and Barbl.
I would then I would return to California and have time to travel in the US as long as I have the funds.
I'm once again returning to Munich (Yes I like it here) to run the video crew for Rock that Swing 2009. With all the problems I encountered finishing the RTS 2008 DVD I have a really good idea of how to do a very good job.

Then after this great event I will head east that illusive direction that I have been wanting to go sense December 2007.

Oh and Beijing is having an exchange in April 2009 maybe I'll go there at that time..

See you all on some random dance floor in the world.

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-70105948294196725082008-05-09T01:05:00.000Z2008-05-09T01:06:11.546ZTime to move onSo after much stress about if I will able to afford continuing my trip east I am finally just going for it.. I will leave Como Italy on the 23rd of June to arrive in Beijing on the 24th Too bad I only get an hour and a half in Dubi I'm sure it would be a great place to explore...

Maybe next time I go around the world..

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-30835641200073298182008-04-20T07:35:00.006Z2008-04-21T17:47:48.085ZPhotography Contest..So I have been trying to gain a higher ranking in the world of photography by entering contests.. A few years back it was just simply a web site where they had a weekly challenge and I never really did very good.. I submitted some of my best work and got all kinds of criticism.. But they I released that the site was full of amateurs who what to be professionals and very rarely did they ever say anything good about someone's photograph..

But this year I entered two contests either online or through publishing company.. Well the Publishing company Picture.com.. Well I don't know exactly what placing I got there but after carful research I realized that it was a scam and only designed to get people to spend money..

But I had also entered some of my photos I took in Herräng last year and made a third place.. Now I had checked the web site only briefly to see what photo actually placed and was surprised that it wasn't one of my favorite's but thats ok because After I looked at the other people and saw that second place is one of the photographers I admire the most I felt very good..

I got third place to Howard Schatz famous dance photographer who's book "Passion and Line" I love.. Momentum Photo Second place Howard Schatz
Howard's photos have inspired my latest style

I just looked up the first place photographer and he is also a well known and respected photographer in NY...
Jene Youtt

These are some of the best photos I think I have taken.. But I'm inspired to take more..
the photo that was placed directly behind one of my inspirations is of Andy & Jessica

You can see the contest page Momentum and my image Andy & Jessica

So this is now inspiration to keep going..

I'm currently working on my next book "Swing Out" Swing dance photography from around the world.. If anyone is interested I have only three copies of my first book "A Moment in the Swing-Out" left...

Bryant

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-34069470510892470892008-04-17T07:16:00.002Z2008-04-17T07:19:22.459ZThe Worst Weekend I could have had..Ok so I guess the trouble started when I got a text message saying it was not necessary for me to teach the lessons (this week) after the LLX weekend. There was no explanation nothing.. So I was disappointed as I had arranged my schedule around that.. I replied and asked why and all I got was that my friend would explain over the weekend..

I arrived into London just fine at around 2:00am after taking the long way of two different busses.. But it was good to see Judy smiling as always..

Late Saturday night one of the worst thing's that could have happened to me did... After loading the photos from that night my computer hard drive crashed.. I was showing photos and was about to send an email about attending an camp when it just froze.. Now I had been having problems with FireFox for about a month but as I had heard from my mom so had she.. So I thought it was just another freeze and application crash.. But when I restarted my computer it would not in gauge the hard drive... I tried restarting in every way that my self and the three people around me could think of.. Safe mode.. From a disc even though we didn't have one.. Anything but it was all with the same end.. No hard drive start up graphic.. So after staying up till 9 an the morning because of late night and missing the last night bus and the underground didn't start on Sunday mornings till 7:30 I woke up at 11:am, yes I actually had less then 2 hours of sleep, I went in search of the Apple store in down town London.. I did get a walk in appointment right there on the spot but the guy was not helpful in anyway.. I was asking him what options where possible for replacement and all he told me was what came stock on my computer, ie. 80GB 5400 rpm hard drive.. Funny thing is I had ordered the computer with the 120GB 5400 rpm drive so he couldn't even tell what my computer had.. Talk about frustration.. SO I went out and around London looking to replace the Hard Drive.. I didn't find anything I wanted and of corse the prices being in pounds I would be paying way more then in the USA..

After that I went all the way back to where I was staying only to find they had all just left to the dance.. each trip costs me a bit as the London Underground is not cheap and Judy lives out of the city.. I went back into the city and to the venue and went strait to work on removing the hard drive.. as most people had already heard about my problem I only attracted a small amount of attention sitting there with my computer in pieces..

When I removed the drive I found that it was not moving and completely finished (for lack of a better word)....

I had to borrow two friend computers as one left early to show photos but as I had spent most of Saturday and sunday trying to fix my computer I didn't have many photos to show..

My only saving grace was that I sold three of my books.. Other wise I didn't make any money and I really needed to..

I guess I got some sleep Sunday night but I can't remember by this time I was just trying not to think about it.. But Monday my flight was at 7:30 pm and I was to take the 3:55 bus to get there.. I don't know if it was the bus being late because of traffic or I got the times messed up but I arrived at the airport about 10 minutes after the check in had closed for my flight.. as I was only carrying two bags they suggested I leave one there and pick it up on my return.. Well that was not an option as one bag had all my camera and computer equipment and the other had all my cloths.. and I don't have a lot of extra cloths.. I asked about changing the flight or getting one to another city but all where too expensive.. I settled on returning to London meaning another bus trip in both directions and having to wake up at 3:00 am to get back to the airport for my 8:05 flight..

On top of all this I still have a cough I got after Slovenia..

But the good new is I was able to rebuild my computer with a Hard Drive twice the size of the old one and I upgraded to Leopard with the help of my parents.. I just need to say thank you to them again.. But the Apple store here in Munich installed Leopard in German.. so I'm trying to decide if I can live with it till I get my copy of the Operating system or make them fix it..

But its taking me two days to install al the 127 programs I had.. and many I don't have with me as I left the large back up drive back in the USA...

I still need to find a way to recover the photos and most importantly the writing that was on that drive..

Bryant

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-289620944008286282007-11-15T16:26:00.000Z2007-11-15T16:34:26.917ZFirst Snow in MunichOk so I haven't been writing here much but I have been very busy..
I did get away from my video editing of the Lindy shock DVD to take these photos around my flat in Munich of the first snow today.
http://goverphotographic.com/travel-galleries/_munichsnow/
I hope you enjoy them...

Oh I almost forgot I can add Budapest, Hungry to my long list of cities and countries I have traveled to in my now 1 year and 5 months I have been traveling..

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-10078774855442397502007-09-12T20:47:00.001Z2007-10-01T19:49:42.006ZMy travelsI finally put together the list of all the countries and cities I have been to in this last year pulse a few months.

I'm not sure about all the spellings but here it is.. HA...

But I was searching around the internet looking for who uses my photos as I'm always greatful to everyone who does. and I found this Blog http://swingjazzblues.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html and Henrik Eriksson I have to say thank you as I'm floored by his appreciation of my work. He mentioned and linked to my site my book and the dance photography lesson I did.

Thank you Henrik Eriksson his blog and photos Floy Floy photography Very nice work by the way..

Other things I found were some interesting things I found. As I'm named after my grandfather my name came up on Wikipedia and I found a page about my father Robert Gover I always love hearing the stories told about my once famous father. Growing up my favorite things was to listen to him tell me about his experiences in life maybe thats why I feel like I want so many of my own. Thank you dad for your inspiration. I also found some very cool letters from my father to one of his friends Bob Harvey about when our family was living in Mallorca Spain I'm not going to post them here but Its very cool to read about my life before I can remember it. Guess I was destine to travel.

Ok well more soon. :p

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-60974160226056905672007-06-09T23:43:00.001Z2007-06-10T00:02:19.376ZTravelingOk so I have been traveling again for a few weeks already. I can do with-out the Hash/coffee shops but I was laughing my head off watching the Asian tourists reactions.

I love traveling and randomly meeting up with other traveling dancers. I was waiting for my friend Lorea to meet me in Amsterdam when who should I see walking by but Joe.

We talked for a few till Lorea showed up then walked a little more got some food and then headed for my hosts and then the dance. I have been working almost night and day on getting htis book finished. This morning I woke up at 6:30 am after staying up till 2:30 last night only to finish the last editing.

I was so excited we had everything finished Printer set up agreements being mailed. And then it hit.

I had just come back form seeing the Pirets of the Carribean 3 when I rea the news.. My publisher told me his printer will not do a landscape bind in 8.5X11 After all this I just feel like some things are not ment to be.. But I'm not giving up.

if anyone has any words of encouragement or sugestions maybe knows a printer who will do a photography book. Now would be a great time to let me know..

Bryant

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-31021444070427081402007-05-12T17:52:00.000Z2007-05-13T08:04:54.451ZBuilding a BookSo as many of you know I am now working on my first book of photography. Swing dance Photography. This subject I love so much has consumed my life cossed me to make great sacrafices and pushed me to travel the world..

Ok so I'm only in my first year and one third the way around the world. But I have seen so many great things and the afermations I have gotten from so many of you out there are really driving me on..

My decision to write a book came after I really started to learn the goings on of the swing dance culture of around Europe.. I saw so many simalarties in the different comunites and still many differences. But its crazy to see the same politics in Moscow Russia as in Seattle Washingtion, and see so many people doing the same things to other dancers to gain more control over the students, and that has been almost everywhere I have been save fr a few places or new seens.
Its kind of like there is a path we are all destioned to follow as we move through history. As they say history repets its self. Only I see the dancing getting much better faster here in Europe then it did in the US.

This first book "A moment in the swing-out" will only be photos as I'm saving the stories and discription for the big one once I have finished my around the world trip.

Again I want to thank all of you who are helping to suport me. Without you this would not be possible..

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-85880381387436049732007-04-27T16:18:00.000Z2007-04-27T16:23:41.096ZWeb Site Woes....Its always a complacted thing to transfer your web site to a new host thats why I have not done this for 4 years even though the host I have been with has lost my files changed my password (twice)

Told me my domain name was not listed with them after three years of it being list with them and after I spent countless hourson the phone reminding them of just that..

So if your wondering why my site is down but your able to see my blog thats because google rocks as my blog is through them.. Well I got a few responses that it was un readable in firefox.. Strange as that's the browser I use and I was also check the site in Opra, Saferi, Flock, Explorer, Omniweb, and as many more browsers as I could find.. I think I finally got it fixed as one friend sent me a screen shot showing that the photos were not separated as it sounded by the reports but that everything was just in the bottom right corner of the browser window..

Disadvantages of having a MAC: ok well maybe some would say they are disadvantages... The screen has a larger resolution then most other computers so when I put the site in the middle of the screen on my computer it was mostly out of the browser window on other computers.. Ok so I just had to change the placement that was easy..
thank you Mark Jeunnette for this screen shot...

Yes the Miss Spelling's well I'm not going to pretend I can spell.. if your big on miss spellings and are willing to help me. Then send me the correct spelling and what page they are for and I will fix them ASAP.. With 350€ in my pocket and the excitement of actuly staying in one place for more then three months. I was taken advantage of...

I have been told many times to be awair of the pick pockets in Barcelona they are very good.. But being that I'm told time and time again that I'm imtimadating in stature I have developed a false security over the years.. No one has ever stolen something off my body every and I have felt the atempts before so I know they have tried once or twice.. But to have my wallet taken from my stregicly sewed on pocket (placed in a random spot and made tight to keep things in place) While riding on the metro.. I was destoryed when I found out everything I had made over the weekend was taken. On top of that my credcards Drivers licens Socility Card Bank acount numbers (yes two of them) and countless other idoms of note..

Here I am now having lost everything. I can't call anyone as my spanish number was in the wallet as well. I can't buy food. All the things I was thinking of doing with the cash have been lost.. Yeah the Pick Pocket culture is alive and kicking. I was talking to a friend a week after about the incendent and he was apoled because as he told me they would not bother trying to pick his pocket mainly because he is a resedent, and that they mostly target the tourists. Maybe we are an easy target as I stood in the metro with my two packs and people bumping me to the point I couldn't feel the action.

But at this point what is there to do but pick your self up and start over again..

I have recovered with the help of my friends here and have been promissed by my approching parents that they will be generous and replace the cash. So again I am very great full to so many of my friends and family.

Lesson learned here?
Don't keep all your suplies in one place. Its too easy to find...

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1014865305346973289.post-85786603480508747272007-02-27T10:36:00.000Z2007-02-27T10:39:15.527ZWhats next?
What to do. What to do.
So many decisions to make and some I don’t know if I can make them..

If I decide to head home, what will I do with my book in its unfinished status? If I decided to continue to travel which way, will I go? I got a very tempting invitation from a friend in Munchen Germany. I was talking to him about his plans of working in Nepal. This gave me an Idea.

I found out his date to start working is very close to my date to continue to travel east. If we could somehow make it across India over land. That would be such an amazing adventure.. But there is so much to plan..

How do we get across India? I know from asking there are no trains maybe there are busses but how do you find that out.. I guess lots of hours searching google..

But I would never try to travel across India with all my things. So where do I send them so I have everything when I get some place where I can once again fly.

I do know I want to continue moving east and work on my book. So many people have been in support of the idea and think it will be a very important part of history. I am overwhelmed by the encouragement I have been getting.

I want everyone to know I want to continue just because you believe in my vision.

Thank you all who continue to support me by buying my photographs and sending the words of encouragement..

bryant's travel bloghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00470799875041496511noreply@blogger.com0
