I have Vista Ultimate installed on my laptop. I have a nice message on my screen saying "Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install Windows, restart the computer and then restart the installation." It's nice to see the message "Your upgrade may take several hours." is accurate. Restarting! Time to install a fresh copy of Vista.

At 11:45, I started upgrading my laptop to Windows Vista (for the second time). My first try failed very close to the end of the install and restore Windows XP after failing. This time I am installing the Ultimate Edition instead of just the Business version. Not like that should make a difference. I ran the Upgrade Advisor and all my hardware checks out.
